A Simple Winter Tale…

Morning light seeps in and sleepy eyes open in the secret sleeping nook…

On a winter morning 3

Winter mornings in the desert feel like fall would in colder places.  Crisp and cool with mere tinges of cold here and there.  Some nights drop to freezing, but not all.  And sun shines almost everyday, warming the ground in the most delightful way.

So, it is natural that in a place that undoubtedly is lending sun rays, you are motivated to want to see what is going on outside of the the secret little sleeping nook…

On a winter morning 1

The warm light glowing outside the nook curtains, tells of a spring-like December day awaiting your visit.

A tiny peek into life is taken, after a night of journeys through dreamscapes untold…

On a winter morning 2

Little shoes are put on, as groggy steps out the front door loom.  It's interesting, what you can see with fresh morning eyes.  When they are willing to look closer.  To see what this incredible place called earth has to offer…

In the most seemingly mundane spaces, wonderment exists.  All we have to do is be willing to open our eyes to see, just so.

On a winter morning 12

The giant apricot tree has finally turned warm shades of golden, and calls out, come play under my branches…

A dreamy escape.  There is total disregard for dirt, as laying under the tree seems so much more important.  So necessary for the sheer enjoyment of the dance between azure, and cerulean, sunflower and saffron…

On a winter morning 18

It is moments like these, where time stops.

On a winter morning 11

Music rustles through the trees.  Winter weather will not truly visit the desert until January, and so today brings an authentic feeling of Autumn.  Curiously, one day before the Winter Solstice arrives.

At closer look, the most stunning waves of crimson sap puddles, linger on the tree's bark…

On a winter morning 14

Giant cabochons made of the same sweetness of the tree, silently sit like a vast treasure, undiscovered…

On a winter morning 16

I don't notice until some time has passed, that hidden on the other side of the tree, love has joined me.  She sits in the sun, drying a wet coat from morning splashes in the pool, it seems…

On a winter morning 15

And then, a trot of little paws tells me, another slice of love has decided to join me…

On a winter morning 5

Love does seemingly live under the golden apricot tree…

On a winter morning 13

As I look up through the tree, sprites gather in shades of…

Pale Lavender ~

And Fire ~

On a winter morning 10

I drift away in thought, and for a moment, I am certain I can hear Lisa Lynne's harp in the distance…

After some times passes, I hear the voice of a woodsman (aka Mister Lovee). He has arrived to trim my beloved tree.

On a winter afternoon

Which in the photograph above, looks like a fake back drop, don't you think?

Just like that, Mister Lovee Woodsman sends me off, in search of a new-old treasure he has placed on my wagon.  And so I go, with thoughts of baking cookies dancing around me…

On a winter morning 17

The gift I find is a lantern.  So that I may see by night, the glowing magic that awaits, if I open my eyes just so…

As cranberry, white chocolate and pecan cookies bake, sending heavenly aromas adrift, I stop and think ~ what a lovely simple little day.

And, I am thankful for the gift to recognize splendid little moments.  Moments that are fleeting, and golden…

Do you find yourself making sacred collections of such little moments that take place in your world as well?  I would love to know of such moments.  Did you have one today?

For now, I must be off to make homemade french fries, but I will see you super soon with a treat 😉

  1. I don’t take time to cherish all of my special moments but it does seem like since we have been in Florida, I am more aware and alert. I am enjoying life more. I always feel inspired when I read your posts! Wish you were close by to share some of the orange cranberry scones that I made today. I know you would love them! Have a wonderful week!

  2. Rhonda Roo says:

I did actually, today, dream a little dream, of being seven again, and laid out all of my trinket treasures, and my weelings, inspired by your Milo party, and commenced to think like a kid, and not wish the world away, but wish myself into theirs. I closed my eyes and made wishes and blew kisses and I’m sure its all coming true even as I type….
It was as vivid as blue shirt against the yellow leaves.
As wondrous as the sun changing colors for you in dappling shades of beauty…
as curious as the look on Baby From the Yard Sale’s face in that photo, that incredibly knowing look, whatever did you catch her thinking?
    xoxoxto you my friendxoxoxoxox

  3. Tara Bradford says:

Lovely photos. I love how you’ve created such a little paradise there. Mr. Lovee is so thoughtful – what a perfect addition to your gypsy wagon! xoxox

  4. Sorta looks like Florida a little, same weather, some of the trees here are turning, how wonderful to wake up to such pretty colors.
I’m off to Miami Beach at the crack of dawn, and I will notice everything, it has been 5 years since I’ve been back. Looking forward to the pink sky and the white sugar beaches, and lots of neon LOL Happy Holidays

Sometimes I do sit back and watch my kids interact with life. I love to see their cute little expressions as they explore things that come their way, wether it be a cat whisker on the counter, a bee in the garden or food on their plate that is too close to each other. Those are the best moments for me.
    Merry Christmas…

  6. Maggi says:

    Jamie 🙂

A beautiful tribute to autumn’s last day. The harp music is lovely.

  10. shari says:

beautiful post! your tree reminds me of my ginkgo tree in fall, all golden yellow like that and the leaves dance the shimmy in the breeze. lovely moments of today: candles glowing with light along with christmas music in my beloved country church; watching (and hearing) the nutcracker ballet; writing love notes to my kids to tuck into their christmas cards; backrub from my honey… life is so full of these moments! aren’t we all so blessed? thanks for sharing your lovely moments.

What a lovely explosion of colors in your world…it is leaning more towards gray up here…with hints of green, but certainly leaning more towards blue…and definitely gray. I am crossing my fingers for rain…and looking forward to celebrating the longest night of the year.
    Happy Solstice V…

  16. V-
I am afraid that I am not alone when it comes to rushing through my days. There never seems to be enough hours (especially not this week). That is why I love to stop and have a sip of my coffee and a nibble on my chocolate-cayenne scone and revel in the marvels that you show. You really are magical, my friend. Those pictures are so lovely, and make me long for the riot of color that is Fall here in WI…here it is bleak and cold and stark, a far cry from your “winter” I would surmise. But it makes my heart happy that there are places in the world so beautiful where sun beams are strewn like so many golden arrows, where a canopy of leaves is more beautiful than any stained glass window, where the trees proudly display their amber colored jewels, where fuzzy friends romp and play and laze the day away, where the most pressing care of the day is making cranberry-white chocolate-pecan cookies. I can almost smell their delightful aroma now.
Many blessings to you, Mister and your fuzzy loves.
    Enjoy the day!

P.S. Eeeeks your pups’ faces are just sooo sweet!! Those eyes…*siiggghhh* Adorable.

  21. Birdie says:

    Good afternoon miss v,
So nice to see the beautiful colors in your outdoors. Here in north Georgia we too still have a bit of color that will last throughout the winter but our yellows are a tad on the browner side.
I’ve seen a book that I would like to recommend to you. As I sat looking through it I thought of you. Your spirit whispered to me the pages you liked best and I liked them best too. It is Shed Chic by Sally Coulthard. If you’ve already looked through it tell me what you thought. One favorite of mine is on page 61.
    Wishing you a wonderful holiday.

  22. Stephanie says:

I experienced a little holiday miracle yesterday that will be tucked away as a memory to keep…family that do not usually support me showed up at my arts show unexpectedly.
I am still glowing from it…happy solstice to you in your beautiful desert world.

  23. KandesLee says:

I was a little down today. Although we agreed that our winter solstice festivities today would be the beginnings of new family holiday-time traditions, the others got doing busywork. It wasn’t really what I had in mind at all. But your post helped me to decide that I am going to make my moments regardless of what they are doing. :o)
    Happy Winter Solstice, Vanessa!

  24. Chris says:

Yes! A wonderful view into your winter!
This is one of the rare times of the year when I save up and gather the music that has lifted me all my life. Like, Ferlin Husky singing My Reason For Living (is because you love me), or, Handel’s Messiah, or, Ferron singing Heart of Destruction… great moments, lovely memories, hopeful thoughts for days ahead.
Happy Happy Christmas and Merry Winter, to you and the Loves!

  25. deb taylor says:

Happy Solstice and thanks for yet another view of your magical world called LIFE!

  26. Vanessa!
Your world is quite simply amazing!
I never cease to be dazzled each time I pop over!
You truly live a storybook little life…
I think you need your very own reality tv show…I know I would never miss it if I could dwell within your little slice of heaven for a bit!
The puppy is growing into such a handsome little furry soul.
Yes…I do seek and experience these sacred moments as you describe…
Would adore to share but alas…I am clogged at the moment
The kitchen calls as I need to do some baking for friends!
    XXOOXX
    Love to the pups!

  27. Cyberdelia says:

I do indeed try to collect those little moments! 🙂 Such as when my fuzzy love, my kitty, buries under the covers and when I go looking for her, only a little black nose is peeking out, and I spend time stroking her little face with one finger, her happily dozing in her little cocoon. Or when I notice many feathered friends eating at my feeders, and sometimes I’ll watch long enough to hear little soft hoots from the doves, like they’re either humming to each other or just talking quietly amongst themselves. Yesterday I went for a walk not far from the house and saw a pair of bald eagles! I think these simple yet beautiful moments are the absolute best life has to offer. 🙂

  28. How lovely. Your tree photo’s remind me of an Oscar Wilde story, “The Selfish Giant”…it’s beautiful.

I awoke at 4AM only to find my granddaughter wide awake and we talked and laughed until around 4:30 when her mom came in and it started all over again…then her dad came in and my love joined us and we ended up laughing and sharing cups of coffee. We also enjoyed seeing sleepy heads all over the living room (my grands). Now this is bliss for me!
    Hugs
