A little note to say…

I am peeking my head in to say hello to my lovely friends!!  You are so fun in fact, that I want to share in my Birthday fun tomorrow.  So, I will be back with treats for you and you and you!! (I will be back Thursday late morning AZ time)

I awoke this morning to the feeling of delicious Christmas magic, dripping over warm hot cakes of looming birthday bliss!

Birthday week 1 fixed

I love that first peek of early morning, where glitter makes magic lights on the wall, and the sun bounces off of sparklies, casting a glowey dreamy haze…  What a lovely morning to awake to…

I jumped out of bed and grabbed a tiara.  Just to remind myself that it is my birthday week, and that I am my own best friend.  It is very easy to say, Nah, I don't need to bake myself a cake, or treat myself to something nice.  I think it is actually too easy, to pass one's self off…

Birthday week 6

But, I try to treat myself with love, especially during birthday week.  My Dad always says, you have to be your own best friend, your own cheering committee has to live within yourself…  So, I always remind myself about that.

I sometimes order a treat and have it gift wrapped & shipped to myself (usually shoes and victorian nightdresses).  That always tickles me because I forget, and then I get a package from myself.  The photo in my avatar shows me wearing some shoes that were procured  in that very way 4 years ago.  And, I had forgotten that in that beautiful Anthropologie gift wrapped box, I had written myself a note…  I made myself cry ;)  A little silly, but lovely too…  (and it doesn't have to be your birthday – you could have an "I love myself day," just becasue you should!)

So, I awoke this morning, put my tiara on, and then I noticed something…  Seems some little creatures have something super secret planned 😉

Birthday week 7

They even had some extra special candles brought in by sled 😉

Birthday week 8

I don't think the creatures realized what a big mouth Mister Birdling has ;)  He wanted to tweet all the details…

Birthday week 9

But I still can't wait to see what is in store for tomorrow!  I hope I get to sleep in an have some lovely treats.  Then I will be here to play!!

I am having my first partial day off today in quite a long while.  And, hope to have all of tomorrow off to play and visit, and prepare for an evening birthday party.  I take my art job very seriously, and sometimes, even set my alarm clock to get up in the morning and paint & create.  However, after a trip to the post office, I am having a partial day off today!  Yipppeeeeeeeee!!

Birthday week 11

Now, I have something funny to tell you.  I have some photographs in my possession that may very well get me into H-U-G-E trouble for posting them…

After I took my morning photos, I was going to head to my computer.  Now, to exit my room, I have a glass door which separates my little private boudoir from my studio.  And, as I went to enter the studio, I noticed this goblin boy poking around my studio in his robe and morning hair ;)

You will see a bit of a glare from my glass door…  But you can make him out for sure…

Birthday week 3

Birthday week 4

Birthday week 5

Isn't he such a curious chap?  Literally!  He loves to poke around and see what I am up to.  He is my little elfin cheerleader.  What a funny guy!  You know, I know I seem like the bratty spoiled one.  But, dare I tell you.  He gets to be spoiled and treated like a mouse king quite often ;)  We have a wacky healthy balance 😉

Do you think I'll be in big trouble for posting those?  Eeeeek!!  Hee heee  ;)  Oh my goodness, is he an elfin thief???

Anyhow, I veer.  I want to have a tiny bit more morning magic and then head out to close the deal on your birthday giveaway gifts for tomorrow 😉

Birthday week 12

Yesterday I had my hair done and had a bit of a massage to go with it…  This is a place where my beloved mirror (which I quite miss) and my jewelry case filled with jewels I make, resides…

Birthday week 13

The flowers inside are by Y-Petals.  Which happens to be, Mombie herself!  Yes, my Mammie makes stunning hair pretties!!  I did some marketing stuff for her…  She is the hair pretty queen in her town 😉

Y petals 1

Y petals 3 fixed

Y petals 4

So, that is the news for today ;)  I will combine today's visits and the last posts visits to draw a name for the cross tomorrow ;)  If you say hello again, I will put your name in twice 😉

Off for now, toodling along,  🖤 🖤 Your Pal, V

You sound like you’re in a fabulous mood today and well you should be….you’re taking great care of yourself. There’s a Goblin boy at my house, too….wears a thick, warm bathrobe, carrying a big hot mug of coffee, and grumbling good morning to me and the scottie…..kinda looks like yours from behind only with gray hair 😀 Wishing you a delightful afternoon off and big surprises on your birthday!

  7. I really admire what your Dad always said, “you have to be your own best friend, your own cheering committee has to live within yourself.” I think we should all remind ourselves that, especially around the holidays when we all become so frazzled. Have the best birthday, and enjoy!

  8. Erin Kleider says:

I love your Mombie’s Hair Pretties! Lovely! Will you be wearing one in your blonde tresses tomorrow? Last year for my 40th, I told my husband that the only thing I wanted for my birthday was a tiara. He was a good Lovey and got me one! Yay! A girl needs a few tiaras to wear while doing laundry and stuff.
    Happy Birthday Eve!
    E.

  25. OohLaLaura says:

Oh HO! Goblin Lovee is CUTE!
I like them in the morning when they’re all scruffy and vague.
Get a cup of coffee or two into them, though, and they’re all mischief!
I’m so glad someone our there has the moxie to stand up and shout, “Yes, I love ME!”
(I’ve also been known to don a tiara on my birthday—or simply because it’s Tuesday—why NOT???)

  30. Lorrie says:

Happy Happy Birthday! I’m glad to hear of someone else who treats herself on her birthday. I usually try to do something special for myself – but ordering a package and writing a note to myself is something I still have to try. Maybe next year.
I do hope you’re not in TOO much trouble with the photos.
    sending birthday sparkles your way

    Happy Birthday Vanessa!!
It took every ounce of strength you could muster to not say you had your “hairs” done, didn’t it? 😉
Mr. Lovee…those photos are beyond sweet. He looks like such a giant MAN delicately reaching out to touch something in your studio that he found enchanting…something so you that he just had to hold in his hand. <3

  47. Elaine L. says:

A very wise father you have.
I’ve been a special education teacher for 33 years. One year I had the sweetest little 7 year old boy. He actually resembled the Pillsbury Dough Boy, if you can imagine it.
His mother had him out of wedlock and while I don’t think she loved him, she kept him because, “darn it she made her bed and was gonna sleep in it”!
I have always done a lot of arts and crafts with my kids, because that is one thing they could enjoy and be truly successful with, since their learning disabilities don’t get in the way and because so many learning handicapped kids tend to have strengths in the right brain areas, like art and music.
So, one year, for mother’s day, I took burlap and traced on simple designs, like butterflies, a frog, and flowers and used dowels to make wall hangings. The kids used yarn and a simple running stitch to embroider the outlines. I always believe in having the kids do beautiful unique things that will be kept and treasured. His was the best. He was so careful with every little stitch and beamed with an inner light when he was finished.
When it was finished he didn’t want to take it home. We were perplexed to say the least. When we asked him why he wouldn’t want to take home such a beautiful creation, he said, with a deep sigh, “oh, because my mom will just throw it in the trash”. Yes, he finally revealed that his mother had been throwing all his works of art into the trash!!! It was hard not to sob in front of him.
I talked with the school psychologist, who herself had been an unwanted child, and she said that he may never get validation or love from his mother, so we needed to teach him to value and love himself.
We hung his artwork in the principal’s office and each day we wrote into a journal something that he appreciated about himself. He did become a happier little boy.
Yes, your father is a very wise man.
    ~elaine~
Though I don’t often post, I love the childlike magic of your blog.

  51. SusannaT says:

Ahhhh.. see nothing beats glitter and candles.
Here in the northern darkness (6 hours of daylight) I have lots of white Xmas lights and a minimum of 12 candles blazing 😉
I had alittle fun with glitter last night too.. I now have a sparkly little tree (photos on my blog for you to peek at). Today I hope to make another one!

  52. Dawn H says:

    Happy Happy Birthday!

  53. Mary says:

    Dear Vanessa,
I was raised in a huge family (4 sisters and 2 brothers) and our parents tried to show no favoritism. They encouraged our creativity, though. Our birthdays were the one day we were the center of the universe and treated like little princes and princesses. I should have asked for a tiara. 🙂 Birthdays (mine and everyone else’s) are very special to me because the way my parents made me feel so loved.
I read Elaine’s comment about the little artist she nurtured. It broke my heart to think he received no encouragement from his mother.
I know I don’t have to remind you that you’ve been blessed with such loving parents. In turn, you’re a loving and generous person.
Happy Birthday! (As I write this it already is your birthday.) :))
    –Mary

Talk of being your own best friend, your own cheering committee has to live within yourself, I agree.
One year on my birthday I hopped over to
Futureme.org and left myself a sweet note to receive on my next birthday.
You should try that, it’s just like opening a time capsule!
    Have a great birthday 🙂

  60. karen says:

    Happy Birthday Miss Vanessa,

  65. marie-neige says:

YES, your Dad is a VERY wise man. I, too, was a teacher for some time in my life and I have been very moved by the testimony of Elaine L. Some parents just do not know how to love their children because they haven’t been loved and have no idea of what it means. Only a father or mother who knows what it is to love (their children) can say “be your own friend”.
It snowed a lot last night in the part of France where I live, yeepee! I love it!! (some pictures on my blog).
    Bonnes vacances, Vanessa.

  68. Tiffany says:

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!
We can celebrate our Birthday week together, mine is December 15th 1971 {I am a bit older than you tho :0)}. I always associate my Birthday with Christmas, as a child it wasn’t much fun cuz it kinda got lost in the holiday hoopla. As an adult I think it is magical and we do lots of things as a family that I reaallllyyyy enjoy. Holiday light display seeking is my absolute favorite thing to do this time of year. An extra special year is one when we get to go to Sedona and look at the lights in Talaqupaque then go through the Los Abrigados resort and see all the light display themes made by 30 different families from all over Az. Check it out at http://www.redrockfantasy.com
If you get a chance, book a room at the Los Abrigados resort, see the light displays and get pampered at the spa too.
I wish the very best Birthday EVER! You are such a wonderful, kind, sweet and giving person and you deserve to be showered with gifts and be spoiled rotten!
    Sagittarians are the best!
    Take care,

Oh my gosh… I’m crying now because of the sweet lady (Elaine) a few posts back, who was the Special Ed teacher, that was very moving.
There is a little girl that lives two houses down from me, who I’ve, in a way, adopted. She has a very neglected home life and sometimes she has no food, there have been times when their power has been off for days. I try to do as much as I can by sending over bags of groceries and small things. I don’t have the budget to do too much monetarily as I’m alone with limited funds. But I just love this little girl (she’s just turned 11) she reminds me of me at that age so much. She gravitates to me when I’m home and we do crafts and decorating projects together. At least her mom lets her spend time with me. I’m trying to let her see that she can make something of herself and that she doesn’t have to go down the wrong path. It’s taken me years and years to feel that I am worthy of loving myself. I always felt that loving oneself was a conceited selfish thing to do. But I finally realized that by not loving ones self you are basically slapping God in the face and saying that you hate his creation. I definitely don’t want to do that, so I’m getting better.
    Happy Birthday sweetie girl Vanessa.
    You are such a delight!!!
