Practical Magic House ~ Victoria Magazine October 1998

I was going through a stack of old magazines, when I came across an old favorite.

Victoria magazine October 1998, which features the amazing house in a beloved movie called Practical Magic.

I had previously posted about it years ago right here.

However, I decided to take the time to share some better images, since so many of us love the movie.

The feature was a wonderful 10-page article, which I have thoroughly enjoyed over and over again over the years.

The house was built for the movie, albeit not a full house, but more of a stage house.

Nevertheless, they captured the ambience of our dreams just perfectly.

I have always loved the use of light and dark tones in the house.

From rich colors and lush rooms to lightness in the kitchen and conservatory, the ambience has inspired and drawn so many of us in.

Here are photos from the article below and in order…

I have always adored the kitchen.

As we step into August, I thought it would be a perfect time for us to gather our inspiration and tid-bits from the garden.

Taking a moment to still enjoy the last of summer upon us, whilst gathering flowers and herbs to dry for our own little Practical Magic displays to come.

I zoomed in on some of the details in the conservatory.

Oh, to actually live here…

Wouldn’t that be a dream?

Here is a link to blog post I did about Practical Magic in 2009, which includes some movie stills as well.

I hope you enjoyed the article and the photos.

I loved coming across the magazine so much that I simply had to share.

May August bring you much joy and delightment.

And don’t forget..

â€œThere’re some things I know for certain.

Always throw spilled salt over your left shoulder.

Keep rosemary by your garden gate.

Plant lavender for luck.

And fall in love whenever you can.”

Here is what the cover of that issue looks like.

  5. laura says:

oh… i so love that house. it influences every aspect of my house hunting. i’m sure i had that issue at some point as i was a subscriber for many years. alas, i had to move at one point in a hurry and a crate of magazines and comics were left behind in the rush and eventually thrown out by the renovators (i know as i tried to go back for them). i’ll have to check my stash that i was able to save to see if that one made it with me. i watched the movie twice in july as it is sort of a soothing thing for me when i’m anxious. i can knit and listen (recite it word for word) and it helps to me to calm.
    thanks for sharing.
    love & magicks

  6. marilyn says:

Yes, I would swoon over this house too.
Definitely I could live here. So beautiful! And it looks over water, my dream!!!
Love Victoria, it is like a mini vacation when it arrives in my mailbox.
The fall one should arrive very soon.

  7. Rhonda Roo says:

Oh oh, such a good movie, everything about it remains lovely, doesn’t it? That house? Oh it is definitely SWWOOON worthy. And you know, while I do love that kitchen too, it is the conservatory/solarium that gets me every time- those cloches and bell jars and worn white drawers and the intertwining vines and bots of branches, you just know you smell earth and florals and a hint of simmering spices when you walk in –and the endless ocean beyond the garden, right out there, beyond the glass. GAH!!! Thanks for sharing, Veevala! xoxoxviixoxoroostah
