The Whimsy of the Big Yellow Dollhouse at Halloween

Welcome last week of October, with Halloween on the horizon.

A couple of years ago my giant yellow dollhouse was saved from the depths of one of my sheds at the country house and put on display for the holidays.

I’ve probably had this house for 17 years or more, but had not had it on full display ever.

It has now become the most joyful spot in the living room at house 2.

As many of you know, I split my time between my two homes that are just minutes away from each other.

The country house has been in my life for 25 years and is filled with whimsical delights that I have been collecting since I was a young gal. House 2 (which I have had for 8 years) gives me more space to display and enjoy some of these treasures.

The yellow dollhouse has become my favorite thing to decorate for each season.

It brings me so much joy to put on some music and lose myself for a couple of hours doing some miniature decorating.

This year I decided to really Halloweenify the dollhouse and boy has it made my heart happy.

It speaks to my tiny thing loving self.

But mostly it has really just added the most incredible Halloween ambience.

Joyful and so sweet.

Little leaf garlands and tiny crates.

Not to mention the microscopic little leaves strewn about.

If only I could make myself very very small and jump right into the scene.

If you love Halloween and tiny things, then I wish you could see this in person.

It’s suuuuuper magical in real life, with twinkly orange and purple lights.

It truly delights the soul.

The house is huge in person and draws you right in.

The only saving grace about the fact that October is nearly over, is that the dollhouse stays and I can redecorate it for Christmas. Otherwise, I do not know how I would get through the changing seasons.

Kidding, but not really, lol.

(do people still say lol?)

I have no idea about such things because I do not have human kids to set me straight, and I still use America Online as my email☺️

I live in my own world I suppose.

I just cannot tell you how much my heart loves October.

If only it could last one month longer.

And why does time have to rush by so quickly as you get older?

I know it’s scientific, but just, why?

I’ll need a large caramel candy apple to help me cope with this ☺️

Imagine living in a house like this in real life?

A true farmhouse, with a rocking chair on the porch, cats, pumpkins, the whole enchilada.

Sigh…

I suppose that is why people love miniatures and become obsessed with them even.

You can live in a fantasy land, even if it’s teeny tiny.

Trick or treat!

All these things I do, decorating, dollhouses, and the like are truly just the little things that bring me inner joy.

If it didn’t make me so happy I wouldn’t do it.

But I seek out the things that bring a smile to the everyday.

Yellow dollhouse is definitely at the top of the list.

Autumn vibes galore!

I hope you enjoyed these still photos.

I make videos that I post on Instagram and YouTube, but there’s something about actual photos that are so much more easy to look at and inspect.

It’s much more relaxing to look at photos.

Like flipping through magazines.

It’s calming and relaxing, gazing at an image at your own pace.

Speaking of dollhouses…

I had a banner weekend of miniature collecting.

A little rustic dollhouse came into my life and so did a HUGE general store.

Totally unexpected happenings.

These things just seem to find me somehow.

This autumn and winter season I want to take the time to photograph all of my dollhouses and share them with you in detail once and for all.

I have so many and one is even 10 ft long!

It’s lives in a guest bedroom called The Dollhouse Room in my house.

I have many dollhouses, and I think it’s fine time I shared them.

Would you like to see them?

You’ll have to let me know.

Anywho, happy last week of October!

Well, I’m not exactly happy about it, but at least we have a few more days.

I feel like I’m getting shoved through October and pushed through a crowd of crazy Christmas shoppers.

Don’t you?

I’m like, pleeeeeeease stop!

I neeed my October.

My sanity needs October.

I want to lollygag and not rush at all.

I want to stroll through Halloween towns eating my caramel corn, slowly taking it all in.

I’m not knee deep in the basement hauling out my Christmas stuff yet, are you? ☺️

I will do my very best to slow down this week and enjoy every minute of it.

The tiny cottage in the garden at the country house is all decked out and I’ve enjoyed many nights up there in the loft.

I watched Mary Shelley with Elle Fanning and loved it so much that I am reading her book Frankenstein or The Modern Prometheus with a whole different outlook.

So I crawl up into the cottage loft with my snacks and my decaf green tea and read voraciously under orange Halloween lights with the owls hooting outside. It’s absolutely magical.

My main goal in life for my own sanity is to seek out all the things that amuse me, inspire me and entertain me. All of the whimsical fanciful variety of course. Plus cozying up with dogs a whole lot.

Nothing too wild, don’t worry!

Well, I am off to seek out my Poppy for a cuddle because she has been waiting patiently for me for the 4 hours that it has taken me to visit you here.

Editing photos and such.

I have attached the video of the yellow dollhouse below for your viewing pleasure.

My greatest hope is that you are well in your neck of the woods and that I will get to meet you here again in a couple of days.

Lots of candy corn love and popcorn wishes!

See ya soooooon!

Love, V. V.

I would love to see your dollhouses. Years ago I had a very large dollhouse that had so many treasures un it. I used to go to a big miniatures convention every year that had many crafts people selling their creations. I also made many miniature rooms-a Santa’s workshop-a garden room-aa woodcarvers shop-I had many miniature collectible duck decoys-but unfortunately I no longer have any of these or even any photos! I wish I had taken photos,

    • Vanessa Valencia says:

Dear Kimi, what fun it must have been for your grandmother to have a birthday on October 31st! When I was growing up we had a family friend who had her baby boy on October 31st and he was born with a tooth🎃🩷🩷

  11. Seeing this dollhouse makes me want one. My daughter had one when she was growing up, but I have never had one to play in. For some reason that little pumpkin man sitting on the roof just makes me smile. I could get lost in fantasy land so easily. So wonderful!!!

  12. Jill James says:

What a small world this is! I see Kimi Holmes’ comment above & I just went to her Witches Tea Party the other night. She decorates to the hilt also ~ just like you. October just flies by but your dollhouse keeps Halloween alive. p.s. I’m making your witch finger cookies and caramel corn recipe…the caramel corn is the best recipe ever. XoXo ~ jill
