Into the Winter Garden Light…

In search of…

Centering?

Winter garden light 17

Where else to find yourself after the hustle and bustle of holiday madness?

Oranges help every time I say.

Just when winter is fully here, and the garden is sleeping, oranges are ready for picking.

The last gifts of the year.

And such good ones at that.

Of course I've stolen ever so many already.

Candy sweet, freshest fresh.

Into the garden I go.

Just as winter light beams in.

Ah yes, the perfect thing.

Just what I needed.

Winter garden light 15

Bring me back fairy light…

To that place of peace and creativity.

My brain trying to morph out of mushed Christmas wrapping paper.

There it is, just in time.

Winter garden light 14

And so, we follow…

Winter garden light 1

On the hunt for what?

Winter garden light 4

For noticing little things?

Yes, yes indeed.

Dry morning glory vines twisted in place.

Winter garden light 6

Reddish brown fur, at my side always.

Winter garden light 7

Last sign that autumn has already been here.

A mere memory.

Winter garden light 5

Harvesting, collecting.

Winter garden light 11

Acorns and pecans.

Winter garden light 8

Freezing night temperatures.

Which means giant cactus pads crash down frozen.

The mess of messes to clean up everywhere.

Winter garden light 10

But it's no matter.

As long as that winter light keeps dancing.

Winter garden light 13

Fingers plunge into acorns.

Winter garden light 9

Dappled light through hair, like underwater seaweed.

Winter garden light 12

I find a few bits and bobs in the garden.

Winter garden light 2

Just as the light changes to pinkest fading sunset.

Winter garden light 21

I collect my beloved oranges.

Leaving more for later, with the trees wearing dresses to protect them from the cold.

Winter garden light 19

Slowly getting back to my life.

Brush-stroked skies, sunset turning the landscape lavender…

Winter garden light 20

Back to the land where dreams love to live.

I guess that's why I love it here so much.

It's wild and things grow like mad, it's free and my heart just takes off.

Running with its hopelessly romantic self.

Too see what sort of mischief it can get into.

Ah, I do love these quiet days between Christmas and New Year's.

Don't you?

Pondering.

Planning.

What?

Who knows.

I hope you had a lovely safe holiday.

I sure did.

My house is a wreck.

I need to unpack gobs of gifts and things still.

I took so many pics.

If you aren't sick of Christmas I will go through my holiday pics and share later this week.

Let's put it to a vote, shall we?

😉

Looove, V

I missed this place, with you in it.

I am listening to CocoRosie singing Far Away and sipping tea.

So happy.

xoxo

Sparkly heart

  2. Cori G. says:

Ok, I was just testing to see if my comment went through. It’s been so long since I’ve typed my url that I didn’t know if it would work

  3. Cori G. says:

Did you have the loveliest of Christmas celebrations? I sure do hope so, and by chance would you like to share what type of lovely lacy frock you’re wearing? And YES to more Christmas photos ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

  4. G.G. Pinkster says:

    YES

  5. Coricakes!!!
    Yes t’was lovely, and yours?
I am just catching up on life. My house is a mess, I have not unpacked much from my travel and a stuffed car. I have been busy busy, and now must organize my life, haha!!
    How are theeee?
Oh the frock, just one of my too many lace gowns. It’s an antique so I try not to dredge it through the mud 😉
    xoxo

  6. We reached the low 30’s here this week, with frost on all of the neighborhood roofs. I made sure to cover my succulents with a clear plastic tarp, on top of our glass patio table. I love my baby succulents and don’t want the frost to destroy them. Wow…that is a lot of cactus pads which got frost-bite.
I do love this frosty time of year. The air is crisp and fresh.
Thank you for posting about fairy light shining through so many things in your magical acreage.
    Must go! Dinner is cooking!
    love and light!
    Miss Teresa

  7. Miss Teresa, it was 18′ here the other morning, eeeeks! My buckets and water collections are all frozen, and maybe snow Thursday, what fun! Albeit a bit cold. My aging self does not like to be cold it seems 😉 But I will suffer for one day of snow for sure!
Oh our huge cactus/cacti all over the yard do this every freeze. It’s like a major nightmare. But they are so tall, we can’t cover them.
But we, or should I say ML painstakingly covers every thing else that could freeze. It’s a job I’ll tell ya, a huge job. But worth not losing any garden babes.
Hope you had a beautiful holiday!! Love, Vanessa

  8. Kelly says:

Most Certainly V….bring on the holiday pics!!! Glad u had a wonderful Christmas!!! We just returned yesterday from Cal. and found out that our heater went out! Hubby finally got it fixed this evening. Tonight our house will be nice and toasty once again. I am still getting things unpacked and trying not to dwell on missing my family…so yes, please, show us your pics and bring back my smile<3

  9. Jen says:

I, too, love this time of year…the quiet between Christmas and the New Year approaching. I also have an orange tree that has gifted me with candy sweetness! Mmmmmm….lovely as always dear! xo Jen

  10. Renee says:

I vote yes to the Christmas pics cause I love Christmas pics (I even put up a couple of my girls on my blog).
Your oranges look beautiful, perfect. I LOVE oranges.
I love fresh pecans, too but they are such a pain to try to shell.
    Have a Happy New Year.

  11. Lisa V. says:

I vote yes for more Christmas pictures. I love your pretty and festive places. I have those same acorns and leave them for the javelina to happily snarf up. Went to Whitewater Draw today and swooned over the thousands of sandhill cranes. Had to stay past sundown before they began flying back to the water. Their trills give me thrills! Hope you get snow tomorrow! Happy Healthy New Year to you and Mr. Lovee and the Furrs!
Waving from the eastside of Tucson,
    Lisa

  12. Ms. Linda says:

It took so long to get here….like from late September….to the 25th. Then after one day (26th) it’s gone. Just 80% off of all holiday things. Wow! That is all that there is left from Christmas. How sad. We finally got some snow and cold weather, although only 1/4 of an inch. I am ready to focus on spring, really ready for some beautiful flowers.
Hope you have the happiest and healthiest New Year.

  13. It’s so lovely to see your beautiful post and thoughts. Very refreshing and invited since I’ve been sick with a yucky cold for the better part of a week. Tonight is NYE and honestly, I can’t think of anything more exciting than sleeping. Hahaha. I had dreams I was connected to two Energizer huge batteries. One in my chest and the other in my stomach.

  14. Tessa~ says:

I just recently popped in here.
    Thank you for this blog.
I love your magical whimsey… There are so very few such places, in Pretty Blog Land. We must follow those, which are here. 🙂 Happily follow, of course.
    Happy New Year’s Eve,
    Tessa~

  15. Kim says:

  16. Bonnie says:

Happiest of days Vanessa! and Lots of Love to those precious fur babies. Our Willow, whose photos I shared when she was still at home with mama and other fur puppies, is 16 months now and probably the “sweetest” fur baby we’ve ever had. Really such a doll. I most assuredly vote YES! for the photos as your photos ALWAYS inspire me. Oceans of Love!!!

  17. E.M. Corsa says:

I have just discovered your blog and am entranced. Wishing you the happiest of New Years from my ribbon of sand in the sea. I will come back for a visit often.

  18. Wondersense says:

    Yes! Please post them 🙂

  19. Laura Tieri says:

Happy New Year! Of course we want to see your pictures! Post them all!
It’s funny about the weather, your supposed to get snow before us in Chicago. We have it predicted for Saturday! We had about an inch in November & that’s it for the year! The cold is finally here. Below zero wind chills.
Those cactus pads look like quite a project to clean up! I like the pumpkin hold out still hanging there!
I love the holidays but now I feel like I want to get things cleaned up & back to normal. I finally got my kitchen cleaned up. It was under a coating of flour & sugar from so much baking! I ended up baking 21 different things for my cookie trays. I gave away 24 cookie trays!!! Um, I don’t think I will be doing that again next year!!! :0)

  20. Heidi Anderson says:

    Merry Happy Sparkly Holidays!!!! 😀
Yes! Yes! Please share many pictures 🙂

    Happy New Year!

  28. G.G. Pinkster says:

Silent Night – Mother and fur babies,
    all right.
Slowly turning, a brush stroke or 2,
Flashing visions to remember the new.
That night they came, star alight,
Bearing gifts to warm all life.
Jack frost dancing at his frozen ball.
Garden lit up with plastic dance halls.
Snow faiyrs with necklaces blue and pink,
All a sparkly & shimmering like a bubbly drink.
Cactus elfin sled rides from up to down,
Cactus chuckles with not even a frown.
Oranges so bright and tasty mighty boom boom.
Dappled, yes, we smile to the new year abloom.
Its time to bathe Yay Yay in the suns Cheer!
Oh black boots everlasting dreams are here.
    Bits and bobs alight,
Pinks sing Noel accompaning the flight.
And so we follow into the bells cheer,
Their music praising the prancing of life so very dear.
Sliver hearts and dragonflies in a ring,
With little frogs and turtles to bunnies do sing-
The ole clock atop the shed door,
Open, open the new is in store.
Dream for awhile just sit some more.
    The light of day 1 & 2,
Kind of like the quick step shoe.
Yet dream we must and stop to hush.
A cozy plan a tabletop meal,
    Many orange spheres to peel.
Its a dreamy time to hear, ssoo cheers to you ms V and yours
A end to begin. xoxo Pinksterita

Pictures please. Roostah’s #1 resolution for 2015 is more Veevala and friends back in my world! Xoxo

  31. What a lovely faery gown. A great harvest! The dog looks so miffed at the fallen cactus pieces! Your garden is magical as always! I hope I visit in dreams sometime!

  32. Raquel says:

I love the lavendar/purple of the sky and land in Arizona. So beautiful. I enjoyed my short visit to your part of the world. My MIL lives nearby and we get there once a year or so. I also got to taste one of these oranges–so good. However, I also picked one of a tree by the side of a road and nearly died it was so sour. Like a lemon in disguise!

  33. Michelle Lindquist says:

What a dreamy post. And that photo of you holding such a strong, vibrantly ripe orange against the contrast of the sleeve of such a delicate, lacy white gown is so striking. I remember it from Instagram, and it’s one of my favorite photos of yours. Postcard-worthy! 🙂 And that lavender sunset. Love any and all photos you could possibly ever want to share.
