Where on Earth’s Doily Have you Been Hiding?

I have been under mountains of odd things. Kind of like trying to get passed a giant toadstool lodged in a doorframe.  But, I have also spent a wonderful amount of time in my own world… With visits from charming creatures.  Oh, they come to me with loads of stories… Again, convincing me as to why they should be brought to life… Such as the "The Harpist’s Bliss," below… To be found,  in my shop as soon as I am done typing this…

Her shoes are a hot pink. For some reason, the computer is seeing them as red. This painting is 16" x 20" x 1.5".  It is heavily textured, and quite dreamy in person. Layers and Layers and layers…

I think the harp will be my next instrument. Do you think you can all put a good word in with Mr. Lovee?  I really would love to own a harp. That really would be bliss….

Did I tell you about the mermaid who had only one wish… To escape for one day with that handsome sailor??? Poor Siren… "The Siren’s One Wish."  11" x 14" x 1.5  Her tail is not only rock hard, it has an iridescent teal haze…

We also had another visit from the darling little one… Miss Peculiar… I love her visits… " A Peculiar Day, Red Balloon." I textured the trees by sculpting them out of paper before painting them… 10" x 10" x 1.5"

Oh, and, guess who got a sculpted tree too? "The Faun’s Nocturne."  I just felt like something was missing. So this creature is headed back into the shop with a whole new look…

And,  the last little creation, before we get to conversation time is… " The Mime’s Protege." She is on one of those super thick storybook canvases. 10" x 10" x 2.5"

So there you have it. Treats in the shop. The place was desperately begging for an update..

Oh, I forgot to show you the doily I really have been hiding behind.  To update you a bit, a billion things have happened.  Let’s see, we got a giant new electric pole. This will upgrade the electricity so that I can have two huge kilns working at all times.  This meant that I had power off and on for a few days. Altering my visits here dramatically.

Then, I went to visit my friend Dino.  He had left a note. He left. He moved. And left all his stuff behind. Shocking really.  So, Mr. Lovee and I packed up everything and put it in storage.  All I can hope is that Dino is happy and safe…As you can see, we have had little wrenches thrown at our week.

Oh enough of that.. The fun news is that, some of my friends have decided to share their title of "Rockin" bloggers with me.  Thank you to my darling special SarahFoxling, Miss MarmeeCraft love shack girl, the little band-aid clad wonderful seamstress Cindy, & the lovely and enchanting Celestine Musings … I promise, I did not pay them all… Oh, heck, who am I kidding.. Yes, I paid them, they each get a phantom lifetime supply of bubble-gum… SPLACK! I am going to be a part of the "I am rubber you are glue group," and bounce the love back to them all over again. And, while I am at it. I think you are a "rockin" blogger as well. So CHEERS!!!  I am bending the rules for now.

I have a fun game to play.  Miss Shabby’s game.  It has to do with 7 wonders of the world. But, I am sorry, I am changing it up too.  As the picture I wanted to use only has five. So I am naming these girls the "5 Bathing Beautie Wonders" of the day.

  1. Paris Parfait says:

    Dear Miss Rockin’ Blogger,
Congratulations on your award(s)! You are too wonderful! Thank you for the honour as one of the “Bathing Beautie Wonders of the Day.” That’s probably the last time anyone will see me in a bathing suit! And of course, all of us wearing crowns, as per usual at the beach. 🙂
Am sorry to hear about Dino; hope he is alright.
I have just been to visit the latest additions to your shop and of course couldn’t resist just a teensy little purchase. Sigh.

  2. Paris Parfait says:

P.S. All your new paintings are wonderful and the harpist is particularly intriguing -perhaps Mr. Lovee might start looking for one to add to your little orchestra. xoxox

  3. Absolutely gorgeous work (as always!)

  4. Bee says:

I say… “why yes, you certainly deserve a harp.”
    xo

  8. Oh the mimes protege was my favorite…will you be doing a print of her???????
I hope Dino is well….he is a mystery man.

  10. Phyllis says:

Excellent choices Curiosa!!! Love the bathing beauty photo with crowns no less!
Your art is getting more exquister each day…I’m thinking it is the combo of fine music and bubble gum…with a few visits from tarantulas and froggies thrown in…but oh I hope the loss of Dino’s good company doesn’t set you back…he needs to check in.

  11. Phyllis says:

And how about a place for Fanciful t-shirts..oh what is that website…cafe something…?

  12. QueenieCarly says:

  13. Donna O. says:

Okay….so……just because I special ordered one of your amazing pieces, you didn’t have to name me. Although I will be paying a fortune, right??
Wonders of the world, huh? I’m thinking chocolate-but WHITE chocolate, as in non-color. Wink, wink!
Okay, seriously Vanessa, your art here is spectaular!!!Mime’s Protege?? I’d by it for the name alone!!!

  17. How can I possibly come up with a suitable adjective or adjectives here? Your work defies all the usual. It puts me at awe! I find it hard to choose a favorite and I see more prints in my future – perhaps I will designate a wall for them. It’s like watching a dance you never want to end because the choreography and the music are so captivating. Sorry, gushing here.
I don’t know who Dino is but I do hope he’s ok.
I’d be happy to draft a letter to Mr. Lovee regarding the harp. 😉 (perhaps a petition?)
Great choice for your bathing beauties – lovely one and all!
    XOXOXO
Lisa (sometimes can get a bit OTT)

  18. I love the pink slippers! (and the bathing beauties) As for harps, well here is a disastrous harpist who plays on the street opposite my university in Ireland, so I am a little prejudiced, but you must watch the film Tous les Matins du Monde – it is about a family of viol players, based on the life of Sainte-Colombe – just *try* watching it and not immediately wanting to learn the viola da gamba afterwards!

  19. Mo'a says:

    Congratulations an award well deserved.
Only someone as elegant as you would hide under a pink doily 🙂
I looooooove the Mermaid…her hair is very interesting and reminds me of another creature of the sea…the octipus.
I have a Mermaid bathroom…my husband it seems is not a “leg man”…the Mermaid collection is his 😉

  20. michelle says:

Well I have missed you, but at least you made things well worth the wait! Wow those are just gorgeous! I think sometime you ought to post about the evolution of this new media, the layered paper and sculpting because I am really curious about how you got here. I especially love the first three, but then I would hate to leave the last two out and hurt their feelings because they are also amazing! Way to go Miss Vanessa! Oh, and so sorry about your darling friend vanishing that is quite shocking!

  21. Conni says:

Hola Chica! I am as always completely impressed with your new lovelies. I so love the harpist! Keep up the wonderful work!! 🙂

  22. Rozine says:

    Congrats Ms.V!!
I had to have a copy of the Harpist to match the Rescue of the Mime(I do so love the Mime)as my son plays the harp.I may be able to score you a celtic redwood harp.
