Sometimes, no matter how busy you are, regardless of looming deadlines and elves & sugar plum houses needing paint, you just can't say no to a date with Mister Blue Bird on his shoulder…
What, you need to go out in the desert? Sure, sounds like a ton of fun. I'd love to go!! Perhaps I should take a day off, since I have a nasty glue gun burn… Yes yes, that is a good reason to take a day off…
My goodness that hurt!!! Such a little thing, but strong in the pain dept. I tell ya… And I am not a wimp, so trust me on that – hot glue gun straight on skin - OUCH! ;)
Soooo, down the winding road we went, merrily merrily merrily…
Beauitful happy Mister Saguaro greeted us…
With hundreds of years of secrets under his belt. "Hello Mister Saguaro! Got any good tales to tell??"
Why yes, he said… Tales of endless generations of birds that have carved little holes in him to live in…
He didn't seem to mind at all…
I was also greeted by a very large cactus family. Many little cacti family members. All talking at the same time…
And of course, magical talking rocks. What, you thought those were only in Return to Oz? Oh no, they are in the desert here too!!
SO fun!! I collected lava like rocks…
While Mr. Lovee found real treasures…
Fascinating cactus skeletons…
And inspiring lichen colors…
A lovely weekend day… Where taking time off to just be, opens your heart to all that is lovely…
And things seem as simple as three words…
And you make sure to leave a trail of love for the next person who comes down the road…
That was a lovely day in the desert hills…
The perfect day with a jolt to retackle your crazy studio and get back to work… Can I get arrested for this kind of chaotic studio? Oh, NO you say? Well, thank goodness…
Oh and don't forget, if you want to participate, One World One Heart starts on the 19th!!
I best be on my way for now… Our quiche is beeping and it smells lovely. I have perfected the quiche and crust, I do believe ;) Do you all want the recipe? I don't know if people like quiche, and or like to make it? It makes a lovely meal… I can post my recipe if anyone is interested…
See you sooooon!!
🖤🖤🖤🖤, V

I’m interested. I love a good quiche! 🙂
Ouch..I know how much that little burn can hurt. It really does distract you from creating. I have burned myself on the glue gun countless times and once my little daughter walked barefoot on top of my plugged in glue gun! I had just put for a moment on my tile floor. You can imagine how guilty I felt when she burned her foot! I still do.
Maureen
Your blog posts are always so enchanting and take me to such a wonderful place. Thank you for the visit…I’ve loved it!
Peace & Love,
~Barb~
mmmmm I really miss the desert. The color of the sky. I miss the stillness of the desert but the knowing that life is everywhere. Thanks for posting desert pictures.
I burnt myself the other day and boy, oh boy does it hurt.
:(:(
what a perfect! day…I adore how the saguaro cactus look so human like…what are the oyster looking sparkly pieces?
yes, please, your quiche recipe!
x..x
Don’t you just love the magic of the desert!
It is filled with such little treasures.
I live in the CA High Desert on a hill with a beautiful view. I don’t think I could ever live anywhere where I couldn’t see the horizon everyday.
~elaine~
Oh, that burn looks like it hurt. I hate getting burns like that… or deep papercuts *shivers*
I love the rock your Mr.Lovee found 🙂
Thank you so much for guiding me to the One world One heart blog. I`ve just made a link to it through my blog, and I will certainly join this year 😀
Looks like a fun day out. Those cacti are amazing. I would love to see your quiche recipe. I love quiche!
Is that first cactus real??? And wow, the gemstones, and even your “chaos” is pretty! Everything is so magical!
Wow, what a wonderous day just soaking up all that is around us and admiring its beauty. Mesmerising. I absolutely would lurve to know the recipe. I have an oven again after nearly a year without one and I am currently having a baking frenzy …
Hooray for the cool kids knowing about Return to Oz!!! I LOVE that movie. My sister and I watched it over and over and over when we were kids. Whenever I mention it to my friends now, no one knows what I’m talking about.
My studio is in a state of chaos right now too…not quite as lovely as your chaos though.
Please do share your quiche recipe.
I would love to know the recipe, as quiche is one of my favorite meals!
yes yes please post the recipe?!? I like trying to cook new stuff.
sorry about your finger, it looks pretty painful. Ive done that myself a few times.
LOL Every hard working artist has messy studio problem, dont feel too bad. though, when it is perfectly clean, it can give you renewed energy. But then we mess it up again. AH the creative life.
glad you had a nice day off.

Thanks for the lovely tour of your surroundings. You make it look so magical. We are having tons of snow and brrrrrrrrrr cold temperatures. Snow is magical too, as long as you can sit at home near the fire and look out the window. Driving is a bit tricky. Happy creating. See you on the 19th for Lisa’s grand One World One Heart.
Karen
What gorgeous photos again Vanessa! Hope your burn is better. I leaned on my soldering iron like an idiot and brother did that sting! Oh and yes, I’d love your quiche recipe. 🙂
Have a wonderful day creating,
Martha
My little almost two year old Grandson says, when something happens…like spilled milk and a toy that falls to the floor from a high chair, “No…No!!!!!”
No…No!!!! not a glue gun burn!!! I personally know how much that hurts…Do you have cold water close by when you are using the glue gun?
I loooooove the desert…you lucky girl to live where you do.
Thank you for all the lovely photos…great treasures 🙂 xoxoo
Elves and sugar plum houses was all I heard…hehehe;) I am itching for the treasures you will soon reveal…how exciting!!!!…better get my mouse hand ready…in the meantime a lovely quiche would hit the spot!!!;o) …I love *Just Because Days*, thanks for sharing yours.
Your giant cactus looks like Oogey Boogey from The Nightmare Before Christmas. Also, I’m so jealous of you right now. The high today is like -6. I’m so not even joking. And it snowed a bunch more. Over ice. And did I mention how cold it is?
The desert is such a lovely place! Mr. Saguaro almost looks like he’s made of cloth and busting at the seams with tales to tell.
How could anyone resist anyone with hair like that? Ha!
I’d love to hear that quiche recipe. Love that stuff.
And your studio is hardly a disaster. Come see mine sometime!! Haha!
Your burn made me wince when I saw it. I hope it heals quickly. What a lovely adventure we went on with you. I love Trees. I feel Mr. Saguaro and I would have a lot to talk about. He looks full of stories.
Wow…thankyou for taking me for a peep in the desert…caccti, igneous rocks and beautiful geodes…I collect stones as treasures…and loved seeing your photos.
much fairy love
sue xx
Oh, how I amore Arizona – and miss it! Thanks for the lovely photos!
I just adore those desert trips…we were tooling around all day yesterday ourselves, and had a silly fun time!
Why did I not get that it was a glue gun burn when you told me you had burned yourself? Those hurt like…well you know! Poor thing, not even cold water makes it feel better.
What a lovely day….out and abouts like that are THE best rechargers for the mind and soul! “Just being” is absolutely essential and with treasures and talking cacti a bonus!
Believe it or not I used to make quiche, a LOT (not for a long time now), so yes would like your recipe. Wouldn’t G be surprised!?
Have a wonderful day!!!
XOXOXOXOXOXO
hello darling V..what a lovely date, doesnt that giant cactus look like his stitches are coming undone??haha but ohh yes, I would love to see that recipe, I havent had quiche in YEEEAAARRRSSS…and how I do miss it bunches..;p
Hello Vanessa,
Great shots!
~ Gabriela ~
Oh, yes, Please post your quiche recipe! I do love a good quiche.
Your sojourn into the desert looks so lovely. I remember seeing a desert for the first time a few years ago out in Palm Springs, CA. I thought it was the most beautiful thing I’d seen. And people around me were complaining about how they hated the desert, that it is so ugly, etc. I just looked at them and asked “are you looking at the same desert as me?!?” It was so rich with subtle color, texture, and light. Beautiful. Yours looks even better with all the cactus life there.
xoxo,
Kate
Ooh, I hope your burn heals quickly! I got a tiny hot glue gun burn on my wrist 3 years ago and still have a scar! Your studio isn’t so chaotic, it looks good regardless. Seriously! Besides, you can always blame little messes on naughty fairies. They come out at night and just mess everything up! And you found such amazing treasures out in the desert! Lucky!
Have a super fun day!!
~K
What a lovely post! I think we should all leave a trail of love like that wherever we go!
Michelle 🙂
Yes! Yes! Please share your recipe for quiche. I love quiche.
I vote for quiche, particularly since it’s been ages since I made it and have pretty much lost or forgotten the recipe. And if you have perfected the crust thing, all the better. Bring on the recipe!! Happy
Where have I been? nursing muscles and vertebrae, and I come here and find that you’ve hurt yourself! That’s a nasty one.
Here’s the deal: I would love a quiche recipe. Hurry! Before my dietary program really begins!!
Don’t you love the desert in the winter? wow.
I live near the desert too and love to visit but we don’t have Saguaro but we have all the rest of the cacti family. And they are noisy; you are so right. Always clamoring for attention they are.
Quiche? Did you say quiche? Love some, thank you!!
Thank you for sharing your day.
Hugs
SueAnn
Every girl needs a wee day off, especially with an injury like that! Seems like you have a wonderful adventure and ending the day with quiche, it just gets better and better. Please share your recipe mmmmmm

Jamie
Oh your photos are so breathtaking!! I love your blog my friend!! :)mendy
WHat a lovely day! Gotta watch out for those glue guns though, that was a good one! My mom always says it is not a good project unless she burns herself with the glue gun!
You poor little dearie…I bet that does hurt like crazy! Owie.
I would love to know how to make quiche, pretty please? 🙂
I am all moved in to my new house. So far, no rats! 🙂 Pleased to say. 🙂
HONK HONK!!!! Missed you sweet girl, you are always a delight.
xoxoxo
Oh, do post the quiche recipe! 🙂 I’m the resident quiche maker here at home and whenever we have special guests, my dad asks me to make one…or two, if he wants actual leftovers and not just crumbs. 😀
What a fun and enchanting road trip to refresh your spirit.
Karen
Beautiful little break in the desert! Gorgeous pictures! Makes me want to visit there.
I love how the old Mr. Saguaro really did look like a very wise old man with stories to tell. I have never seen a cactus in person (except for a tiny potted one I got as a gift once and was the size of a golf ball!) and I long to venture into the desert and explore!! The cactus skeleton amazed me!!!!!
Thank you so much for taking us into your world.
I learn something new each time you do and it is always refreshing to see exciting new things I have yet to explore in life!
Thanks for sharing these wonderful desert photos, which have made me long to be in Tucson. It’s been much too long! xoxox
Oh YES! Glue gun burns are indeed a perfectly reasonable excuse for taking the day off!! : ) (And….OUCH…that one looks particularly painful, poor Vanessa!!) Add to that…..sore toe, ingrown hair, hanging cuticle and perhaps……messy hair!? (Though if I used the last one would never work a day!) tee hee!!
Your magical desert trip looks like such fun!
Happy Wednesday to Yeeeeee! : )
What wonderful light you have where you live. The southwest has some beautiful, blue skies, don’t they? 😀 I really enjoyed the hike into your winter desert. Magical as always. Hope your hand is healing quickly. One of my daughter’s friends was finishing up an art project for one of her college courses last month and got into quite a “fight” with a large glue gun and ended up in the emergency room with some pretty bad burns. Sometimes I think I’ve burned my finger prints off for good with my glue gun “issues” 😀 And YES, PLEASE……I’d love to have your quiche recipe. My family LOVES quiche!!
Happy Wednesday……..
~Allie
Oh my God! One of the most loveliest blog I’ve ever seen in a looooong time! Hello Vanessa! 🙂 Do you always create such beautiful things for people and for your own blog??
I love art (but not limited to) by Amy Sol, Jonathan Earl Bowser and Thomas McKnight.
BTW, are you on Twitter? It’s a lil like Myspace but only better – you can connect with me there as more and more ppl on Etsy joins: http://www.twitter.com/qutequte
I hope you don’t mind – I am adding you to Digg and StumbleUpon so others can also find your lovely blog and stuff!
TAKE CARE Vanessa!
Oh yes!!!! Quiche is one of my favorites.
I’ve had many battles with the glue gun…ouch!
You’re very lucky in that “Love” department:)
Elizabeth
I love quiche..would love the receipe…glad you took the day off to enjoy the “moment”. Soooooo sorry about the burn…and yes they do hurt!!!
I loved it when i lived in Arizona..I went out to hike in the desert and mountains. The colors are so rich and clear. When I see your pics , it makes me so nostalgic. Love and smmoches…and yes, the quiche recipe.!
Love the cactus skeleton…
and quiche is yummy!
Do share.
You wanna see burns and scars from glue guns?! Well those images from your neck of the woods are gorgeous. We are enjoying a balmy 55-60 here in Blue Sky Bend and I’m not complaining because there is suppose to be white stuff on the ground this time of the year:)
I love your descriptive story, and Mr. Cactus looks like he walks around the dessert at night! Great photos and maybe I’ll join in on the 19th!
Suzanne in CT
I love the desert. It’s so beautiful!
Yay Arizona!!! Love is in the air!!!
Enjoying your posts very much!
xoxo..
You know what I love about you Miss V? I love that you’re one of those people who can see talking rocks and cactus/cacti? that are really wise old men. Do you know my hubby says he can never see the “man in the moon” and I always always see a face! I’ll bet you do too!
The desert rock looks like a giant chameleon set in stone…or a frog, perhaps? I would expect it to begin talking any minute, “What are you staring at, child?” and then snap a bug or fly out of the air. ‘:)
Ouch!! on the glue gun… that looks a bit painful as I am sure it is!!
YES!! on the quiche recipe… please post.. I think quiche is one of the best meals ever… a little side salad… you cant beat that
WONDERFUL AND ENCHANTING!! On the photos… thank you for taking us on your journey into the desert… a fun trip was had by all!!

Hi, my name is Anja and I’m from Slovenia. I have been reading your blog for a while now and I love it!!! You are so talented and your life is like a fairy tale.
I would like to give you an award – I like your blog.
We were off-roading in the catalinas on Saturday….so, so beautiful. We find so many cool things, but I have yet to find a geode. I’ve heard there are fire opals off to the east… I love finding all of the little pieces of Gold in the washes around Wickenburg….I miss Ohio, but Arizona is like a constant treasure hunt.
