There was no question about what happened, in the first couple of hours past midnight. No question at all…
A girl slept. Warm, dreaming. A white fluffy bed, two nightgowns, one flannel. Tiny socks. Pillow hugging neck… Kleenex box by her side, and the necessary assortment of books to her left, to comfort her if she veered from her position of sleeping on her back. (This was the one thing she followed like the rule of all rules. She knew what side sleeping did to faces. It squinched them up, that's what. Eight hours of a squinched face, was the one thing she feared. She ate butter, she drank coffee, she followed no real rules, but the side sleeping rule - she feared it more than spiders.)
Just when she felt her head cozy up to the left, she would force herself back onto her back… But this, this was a different kind of night.
She felt something tugging at her toes. Tickling her. Pulling her hair… She heard little feet scurrying around… Then she saw little wings in flight…
She thought – well, it is a little light out. It must be around 6 a.m. So she slowly tugged herself, with the help of the fairies, out of sleep…
She peered out the window. She saw a fairyland. Powdered sugar?
She stumbled around in the dark.
She grabbed a scarf, two more flannel nightgowns and her mint green velvet pants. Socks, Boots. She went into the studio.
Dark, guided by fairy lights…
She couldn't find her gloves… Out of desperation, she resorted to socks…
She went up to get her camera. Trying not to wake the Mister, as the door to his private boudoir was open…
That was when she realized, it was 1:57 a.m. What???
It was no accident that she was woken up by the fairies.
No siree.
She bundled up, and headed out her private boudoir, through the little wood paned cottage door…
Noone would know where she had gone. If she disappeared…
I mean, what if she fell into one of those famous rabitt holes?
The world was pink and lilac…
The fairies giggled and flew around. Swooping through her hair… They were delighted she was roaming the fairyland at 2 a.m.
The silence of snow enveloped her heartbeat…
Snow. Real Snow. No big deal for you right? But a HUGE deal for her. It was 80'F last week. she almost bought tropical tanning oil…
It was so hard to take photos in the dark. Without flash, the sky was captured exactly how she saw it. How could it be almost light out at 2 a.m. It was the magic of snow…
Now with flash – everything turned into darkness… She stood in the wonderful silent sound, of snow falling…
Just as she was soaking in the beauty of the moment. She looked down and saw hoof prints. She felt a tinge of panic. Just ever so slight…
Like, what if a furry creature attacked her? (did she just start a sentence with "like?")
The dog was inside, as was the mister… She thought about the woman being attacked by the rabid racoon on an episode of This American Life…
Then all of a sudden. She heard the noise of all noises.
Grunt. Ggggggrunt. Grrrrrawr. Xxxxsss. Grrrrawr.
A huge tail emerged from under Mister Lovee's snow covered car. She did not wait to see who this tail belonged to.
WHoley mackerel, YikesmeeGIKES!! She bolted back to her room. Running through the bushes.
She hopped in, bolted the door, pulled off her soaked boots, and extra flannels, and sprinted back into bed.
Phew, that was a close call she thought. Chased by the wildebeast!! Or whatever the heck it was. She was certain it was 4 feet tall, and had long fangs, and hair down to the ground, and and…
How could she ever go back to sleep?
After 3.5 hours of trying to sleep and coming up with only nightmares, about her Grandfather being some mobster (not true of course), and other silly things, she awoke…
Awoke to the sound of pouring water.
Melting snow???
OH NO!!! She got dressed again. She rain into Mister Lovee's and recounted the tale you have heard so far, in less than 12 seconds.
Then said "Now I am going out there again…" And ran off.
This time with a friend in tow…
Running and playing…
What a treat, even though it was melting…

The shrine she made years ago, loved sitting in the powdery white stuff…
Roaming was a treat…
Just enough time, to create the likeness of the duchess, in snow woman form…
What will the birds think of their snow covered bird feeder. I need to make more of those… They are a hoot to watch the birds go into to munch…
But after all that fun, I have to get back to work. I am such a busy bee right now… Little frozen fingers and all…
G'bye snow… Thank you for the adventure…
I wish I could show you everything I have been up to the last couple of months. So hard to bite my tongue…
I am ever excited about the project I shipped out in January… All sparkly and fun!! I have some more pieces coming soon that hold some of this sparkly candy like love…
Here are some snippets… ;)
So, I guess I should go keep working…
I hope I convey how much I really really really adore you, by taking you to fairy snow land at 2 a.m. with me ;) I can't think of any better way to show you 😉
If I am out of touch sometimes - it is never because I am doing it intentionally. But, only because I busily have some magic potion brewing, and all sorts of sparkles flying out of the chimney 😉 ;)
You guys make fairyland what it is ;) You do, you do… xoxo, V
ps: The fairies are traveling your way 😉

That bird house rocks my socks off!!! And the winter-wonder-fairy-land makes me smile :). I love it!!
Miss Sweet V…another wonderful tale…I wish to be awoken by wee folk in the shadows of night! Steer clear of grumbly critters tho…you must stay safe, where would we all be without your infinite wisdom and fanciful follies! Lost, I tell you…LOST!
Take care,

EEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeplings!! 🙂
I saw on the news that Arizona got snow and immediately thought of You, sweet Miss Fanciful!! I wished for your snow faeries to come, and they did!! And what a lovely blanket they have left for you to play in!! So magical!!
HOOOOOORAY for SNOW!! : )
Your snow pictures look so dark and magical and I can’t wait for you to unveil your new projects. I am really intrigued by the snippet with the pink slipper.
Now, off to work I go. Have a lovely day!
P.S. Your little snowman is Darling!
Oh I so love that movie! A FairyTale that is, might have to dig up the DVD today I think. Again a wonderful post, such a lovely start to the day again for me! I read all the time! Thankyou.
Yikes,
Snow in Southern Arizona!! Can only be the work of magic! 🙂 It has gotten a bit cooler here also. Why just this morning I had to put socks on just to keep my toes warm in their sandals!! I’m now sitting here with the windows open in the Sun room because the sea breeze has reach all the way here. Eight blocks is a long way to travel you know 🙂 But the breeze is a bit chilly, I’m thinking I need to go find my sweater. I’m off on the hunt, I just can’t be sure where I put it away at last winter??
Take care Little Miss, I think I will enjoy your snow while sitting here smelling the gift of the sea breeze!! 🙂
Pattie 😉

Only you can make snow seem so magical and fun! Your adorable blonde friend had a ball running in the snow – so cute! Your snow woman is sweet, and I’m imagining her to be a tiny lady like all the cute creatures you create.
What was it!!! What went GRRRR…I bet you could’ve stood your ground and defended yourself with sock covered hands, doing crazy karate moves in the snow. I will send you some more snow…just a little though XOXO
Ooooh, what fun! I love the world without flash most of all…
Snow is so exciting when you don’t get it often. Did I mention to you that I have snow, bluebird photos and a link to one of your posts on my current post?
You have a wonderful way of telling a story…I was with you every step of the way…flannel gown, socks on hands and my did I run when we saw that tail…*scary*
Can’t wait to see what you have been working on.
Oh, everyday is such an adventure with you Miss Vanessa!
Oh such a sweet tale it was! 🙂 I expecially liked the snow duchess.
Yes, yes my fear too…sleeping on ones side causes wrinkles, hehe .What a wonderful adventure.Last night was a full moon and the snow covered ground glittered.Sadly I was to lazy to go out and have a moonlight, snowy adventure. So,I enjoyed very much reading about your snow, fairy filled fun.
love Sue
what a beautiful adventure…thanks for sharing!

Vanessa,
Did you ever find out what was out there? Gosh Geez, I would have been frozen in my footsteps!! Your photos capture beautiful pictures of snow at 2:00 a.m..
🖤Kris~
So that’s why the left side of my face looks a bit out of kilter. I’ve even got the weensiest of bald spots to prove it…oops! You’re not supposed to know that :).
The pink light casts such a magical glow on the white glistening snow. You almost expect to see a unicorn with the Faerie Queen appear…had that growly beast not shown up she may have danced from beneath the trees and bestowed upon you a wish of wishes. But then maybe your wish was to dance in the snow.
Your snippets look truly enchanting!
Have a dreamy day.
Ooooh, so pretty. We don’t even get snow in winter in Sydney, so I certainly understand your excitement.
oh!! i listened to that episode of This American Life about the rabid raccoon out in the middle of no where! Jinxies!
Got cold in Phoenix but we are not lucky enough to get the snow….I will have to come down and play!
I am crazy in love with the picture above with the snow and the tree and everything is a pink hue….LOVE!
be careful on your adventures!
xoxo

Dearest Snow Queen,
Hahaha… I would have loved to have heard more about the 4-foot-fanged-and-hair-covered-monster lurking under Mr Lovee’s car! You really are funny.
You had quite the Adventure, out there in Fairy Snowland. Thanks for the pictures. I would guess that doesn’t happen very often where you are.
Looking forward to hearing about your recent studio antics…
xoxo,
Kate
Sigh… I love your world!
This was so much fun! Thank you for the adventure with the fairies. laurie
I am sooo loooving the pictures of the snow, and envious of the duchess (though maybe not so much now, as she has probably gone on to another realm at this point)! The secret sparkly creatures are very wise to invite you, a fellow sprite, who is most excellent with a camera (even when wearing layers of clothes and socks on her hands, apparently!), to their snow show soiree, as some of us might tend to, unwittingly, be a bit rude at 2am…though i would like to think it would be less about me being rude and more about me not being able to hear them over Mr Cowboy’s teeth grinding extravaganza :p
Well, that and that I live in Florida..ha!
I cannot wait to see new sparkly-shiny-pretty-fantasticals from V!
Thanks for surprising us!
xoxo divaqueen
PS-its also cool to read the comments and know that there are so many other twinklestars out there too 🙂 the world needs more happy!! See what you’ve done V? Gone and made the world a better place! 🙂
A fairy tale? I love your blog and the feeling of walking down the road with the fairies…or gypsies! And your snowfall looks quite magical!
A great tale (minus the tail) indeed, those frisky fairies!
Thank you for taking me with you!!

PLEASE, Vanessa, you just have to write a book with all this in it!!!!
I really adore your blog (there should be a different name for blog, it sounds like something that cames out of a trolls nose).
Anyhoo, it’s always exciting to see a new post pop up…to see what new adventures are going on.
It WAS a fairyland! Pink snow? Oh me, oh my…however, I have enough of my own. If I could, I’d send you some more often. As for me, I miss the sun…sigh.
Erin 🙂
What a fun fairy tale surprise. And you are Queen of the fairys, always delighting me with your tales and wonderland photos. Thank you.
I’m noticing that all our winter weather has migrated westward…no snow in sight for us and 49 degrees. Am I still in Vermont? Those mischievous faeries playing such tricks!
Hey V, can you send those snow fairies over to the East Coast please 🙂 We’ve had a warm couple of days which has been lovely, but we need one GOOD snow before spring arrives! Love that you go to play in it though (even if it was 2 am and you got chased by a wildabeast, hehe). Glad you are okay! And can’t wait to see what you’ve been working on!!!
Jamie
Delicious tale Vanessa! You make my world more magical!
Snowed in at the Airstream…coming home to Foolsewoode to see the foot of snow all over the place?
It was a wild and beautiful day and night indeed!
Hi Vanessa,
PLEASE,PLEASE!Have the fairies bring ME SNOW! I haven’t seen a good snow since 1980. I am saddened that we don’t get any. Year after Year I am disappointed.
I hope ya enjoyed every moment in the sweetness of a snow falling night.Would have loved to been there dancing in it with ya and the fairies.
My birthday is in a few days, would ya think the fairies could bring me some snow for my Birthday? Valentines and Snow would make my day!
Hugs~
I’m happy that you enjoyed the snow so much! The pictures of the snow are so beautiful
Snow faeries are my special friends since I am Winter baby. They especially enjoy hot chocolate and cookies when they come. So you know what to give them next time they come.
Ohhhh what a wonderful tale. I have to tell you, I’ve only just discovered your land of shimmery magic and every day I think about your beautiful stories and all the wonderful colors and your home and studio, it’s all so fascinating.
Thank you for entertaining and inspiring me. This is such a treat.
what a wonderful tale!your blog continues to enchant and inspire.. xx
Those snow fairies sure work fast, don’t they? Enjoy!
I’m glad to find someone else who gets so excited over the magic of snow, we had the most amazing snow last week, so rare for England, and all anyone could do was to moan about it, which made me quite sad, but I didn’t let that stop me playing out in it like a child! 😀
Ohhhh Magic!!! The colour of the sky….oh thank you for thinking of us and braving the snow with the wilderbeast…..just magic!
Kiss Noises Linda.(where it doesn’t snow but there are horrible fires at one end and flooding at the other end of the country, probably just as well it doesn’t snow, we would have an excess of that as well)
I can’t wait to see what the sparkles and dancing shoes consist of!
Hi!!!
Todo magico…las hadas de la nieve deben estar feliz…una gran nevada.
Besos amiga.
so very amazing! fairies must of woken you, why else would you have gotten up at that time of night?
%*_*%
What a magical night. I’m sure your four foot beast was someone else’s best friend lost and trying to find shelter. But I wouldn’t have stuck around either! I love magical nights like that! Sometimes I get up in the middle of night just to see the stars. They still amaze me.
Hello dear! Such a wonderful tale! I love that movie by the way! You always seem to bring such spirit my way!!!!!!
Just love the birdhouse….
Vanessa,
Your blog is so fun to read; thank you for taking the time to inspire us to enjoy the magic and sweetness of life…
Love from So. Cal.
Dear, dear, Magical Miss V, you certainly have crazy mad talent there…the snow pictures are other-worldly, exquisite, keenly discriminating. May abundant blessings fall upon you like little snowflakes from the sky. You, my friend, make this world more beautiful.
**blows kisses** Deborah
Oh my, how strange, the same thing happened to me the other morning, only the fairies weren’t strong enough to pull me out of bed. They mustn’t have had their porridge!
Another wonderful post, your night time snow photos rock!!
I love you fairy adventure. It look very magical and warm. Too bad the snow melt in the morning.
Ooohh…I can’t wait to see what you are up to! I love all the glitter! I am on pins and needles Miss V! And still trying to figure out how you ended up with snow and we didn’t in Colorado! Truly magical! xo Shannon
Isn’t it exciting?!? It’s been raining here in L.A. and then today, clear and bright, and COLD! If only it had rained this morning!
bye, busy bee
Winter wonderland! I love the Frosty Duchess von Icicle… You have no idea how refreshing it is to be seeing snow through the eyes of an artist in the middle of Arizona with a twirly white nightgown and stripey socks on her talented fingers! You make me smile and laugh out loud! I have been so depressed by the frozen tundra out my window but you just gave me new eyes!
We love you Miss V!
Sweetly exploring the sensuous world around!
xox
E
sweet vanessa – thank you for the thrill & joy of being in a wonderland of fairies & snow. how lovely to be on any adventure with you. valentine wishes
Robin
Miss Vanessa, what an enchanting post! How exciting that you were visited by the snow fairies and they got you out of bed! What beautiful photographs you took! I hope that after your exciting night and day, the fairies at least made a spot of tea for you! LOL Always a pleasure to visit you My Lady! Thank you for sharing and putting a smile on my face and adding a little giggle!
Cheers my friend!
I was the same the last time it snowed – at 3 a.m. was out on the balcony in that light soaking up the beauty (although I didn’t have my camera with me). Our snow melted the next day too, but it’s gorgeous and magical while it lasts, isn’t it? Love your fairy story – and the fact that you’re busy creating more magical art. xoxox
This is amazing. I love that you captured the night sky colors. When it is a silent snow, there is nothing more magical. I have never heard anyone actually be able to put the feeling in words. You did!
Snowflakes fall….Fun for all…..Snow fairies fly…..my oh my…..Vanessa gets her wish for snow….my poem is o’er and now I must go
pure and utter magic this post
and those photo’s! my gosh
i adored the one of the footprints in the
sparkling snow
I hope the faeries come visit me
i will feed them red velvet cupcakes
and plum wine
you can come too
with the mister of course:)
muah!
Oh sweet little Miss V… I sooo wish I could have played “Chasing Frosty Faeries in Flannel” with you!!! That would have been super fun.. You are such a blast!! I’m sure you’ve probably heard it before but WHY have you not already written a children’s book!!! You should already be such a famous author, what with your wondrous imagination and fantabulous artistic talents; it is just a matter of time… SOOOO many of us would by your books…Hmmm think about it!!!
WoW! New to your blog. Love your pictures! It’s a nice place to escape to from all of the depressing news. Thanks!! 🙂
That scene of the fae folk fleeing from the “mortal invasion” from Faery Tale actually made me weep! In the middle of the theater full of kids, i was crying like baby…that evil cigarette butt, those poor poor faeries. I ADORE that movie!
Living in the high desert of CA, I can appreciate your story. We get that occasional snow, in between mild weather, too.
It’s happened twice this year and is supposed to happen, again this weekend. We’ll see.
I like Snow is a beautiful novelty. I wouldn’t want a steady diet of it, tho.
~elaine~
You are a most magical creature. Did you once live within a fairy ring?
Love Renee
The new line is absolutely stunning! I have been so entertained by your blog, I didn’t even see the link to your things you do. Keep coming up with ideas. Thank you for sharing!
