April 4, 2009

We’re all in our places, with bright shining faces…

Yes that means you too.  "This is the way, to start off your dayyyyyyy."  I know, am I still singing that grade school song?  Often, admittedly…

So, it has been one crazy central week.  First of all it's April.  Wasn't it just Christmas, like, last Tuesday?  Is my life slipping out of control????  😉

I spent 8 hours packaging day before yesterday, so that creatures could go on adventures.  I said my goodbye's and off everyone went…

Saturday 5

Oops, darn, I just spilled salsa in my keyboard.  Yes I am having chips and salsa, and taffy for breakfast.  Not all mushed together, don't worry, I haven't totally fallen off my rocker.  Yet…

Thanks for the Taffy and sweet goods Miss Christine 😉

Maybe I am rebelling against real (or sensible) breakfast?  Maybe it's because I see myself like this little gal below.  I saw this little girl this week and thought, hmm, I wonder if I should ask her where she got her outfit.  Of course, my mom knew where I could get one just like it ;)

Sorta fairytale 14

I didn't know the little girl, but I snapped a shot anyways.  I nudged Mister Lovee and whispered, "I see myself as her."  He nodded and said, so do I.  Scarily, sometimes I freak myself out when passing a mirror, and ask, hey, who let that lady in here?  I drag mister over, "Lovee, do you see her, there is a weird lady in the house, look look (pointing in the mirror)."  HAHA ;)   Oh wait, that's just me.

Quite honestly and truthfully.  I don't really care what age does to me.  As long as I don't loose sight of my 5 year old self in my mind's eye.  Now that, that would be much more tragic than lines on my face and gorgeous silver streaks, for sure.  OH goodness, even the thought of losing my inner child makes me feel sick ;)

Anyhow, I veered again, did you see that?  I was telling you about my crazy week.  So, as not to bore you silly, I will share quite simply…

First of all, there was this hawk looking at me really weird for a few minutes early this week.  I think he thought I was lunch?

Sorta fairytale 3

Then I had to build this while singing and skipping to this

Sorta fairytale 6

To protect these from my pooch…

Sorta fairytale 7

Because a mama Quail plunked them right in the middle of the back, and they were so not safe.  Plus, I have been crying rivers of blue tears because my pup had baby bunny pâté this week.

Mister Lovee says it is the circle of nature or something like that, but it still made me very sad…  I think that is the Momma of those poor bunny souls.  We have soooo many wild bunnies, I can't tell them apart…

Sorta fairytale 5

In happier news, my sister had a birthday this week, chock-full of…

Sangria

Paella a la Valenciana

Beautiful Music…

Sorta fairytale 9

Oh…  There is Mister Lovee in his lavender blazer (his fave color) carrying our gift.

And by the way, I am soooo grounded for, as he says "making him look like a goofy dope who has all sorts of mishaps."  Tee heeee ;)  I wish you could hear him in person, so funny…

As he says, those three incidents that I have decided to focus on, were the only incidents in almost 10 years.  Oh, okay then ;) says the grounded girl.  Can I go out and play now?

Sorta fairytale 15

And here is the birthday girl, opening her fab gifts…

Sorta fairytale 16

After we ate til we couldn't walk, we went to Hotel Congress', Cup Cafe for dessert.  But first, Mister Lovee got in a phone booth, while I attempted a photo.

Sorta fairytale 10

Then there was dessert.  Of which I did not partake because I couldn't move from all we munched at dinner…

Sorta fairytale 11

We sat outside, it was a glorious evening…

Sorta fairytale 13

We have also started our spring and summer juicing.  Beets and carrots and all sorts of good stuff everyday…  I love cooking with the beet tops.  They are sooo yummy!  A little garlic and olive oil and spices and yummy, good on brown rice or pasta.

Sorta fairytale 21

Week before last, I made limequat curd, but you can use lemons too.   I served them in little almond tartlettes.  I ground my almonds in the blender…  I used this recipe at Who Wants Seconds, and as a side note, because I couldn't find it in the recipe, I baked my tartlette shells at 325' for 8 minutes or 10.  I followed the curd recipe exactly and used a candy thermometer, and sealed my bowl with saran wrap right away after cooking, and refrigerated it, and it really worked!!

We both agreed, the tartlette shells are so good, they could be cookies on their own, with jam.

Mister Lovee was smitten beyond words with his curd…

Yesterday I was going to clean my studio – here is one little corner of it, but the whole thing is wacky after all the creating and shipping etc., you can imagine.  Even though I have a little shipping station in the office (which will be totally complete one day soon, I hope), I still end up packaging in the studio…  What a wreck!

Early morning weird lighting shot… (I guess that isn't a good excuse for my mess 😉

Saturday 3

Thank goodness there is one nook that is graced by a treat from the absolutely fabulous Tristan, that looks happy all the time ;)  (I got new over-head bulbs in my studio, and they make everything a weird salmony butter color, I don't like them at all, must get new ones today)

Sorta fairytale 2

The quality of Tristan's creation is incredible, and sooo sturdy and professional, I just love it!!

Sorta fairytale 1

Instead of picking up my studio yesterday evening, I opted painting into the late night hours.  Which makes so much more sense than cleaning, don't you think?

Saturday 2

Anyhow, I best be off, I am meeting my parents for a little cafe, even though I stopped drinking coffee over a week ago.  I don't know why, I just did, we'll see what happens…  I had been sipping 2 or 3 tea cups of black coffee everyday for 2 and a half years or so…  I might still want a sip or two every now and then though ;)

It took me forever to write this post because I got stuck in YouTube.  Does that ever happen to you? I love watching that T-Mobile dance, which I have seen oodles of times and I know you have too, but still love it…

I looove the old ladies dancing in it.  I want to be just like them if I make it to 80.  Then I got sucked into watching the making of it and then the reactions…  You know how that goes, the YouTube spiral…  I have seen it all before, but I love watching people dance and I love watching the making of things, do you?

Oh and did you see the freezing in place at Grand Central Station?  Loved that too…

I best be off, I am sitting here with hair the size of a lion and must get ready to visit with my parental units.  I slept with my hair wet last night, so my head looks like it's got its own at-mospherrrre…

I'll leave you with spring, springing about…

Saturday 6

Oh, and I will make sure to see if I can snap a shot at the quail babies hatching!  Yippeee 😉

 🖤, V

ps:  If you see typos in my posts, I make sure to go fix them, I don't spell check formally though.  I am nutty like that.  So, I fix as I notice them…

  1. I love the eggs, and the T-Mobile is awesome! I shared that a while back on my blog and I kept hitting “play” to watch it and giggle!

You could totally pull that outfit off.
    With wings maybe.
I was hoping I’d play at your house again last night but got stuck in a stupid CSI-style nightmare instead.
(Do you think maybe I watch too much tv? 😉

  8. kate says:

Mmm, your food pictures have made me hungry! And that T-Mobile clip is great, it made me giggle.

  9. stephanie says:

Just love spending a day in the life with you! The parties, the visits with nature, the food….oh yes to be forever young!
    x..x

  10. tattingchic says:

Love all your darling characters! Thanks for the comment on my blog today. Just to let you know, no, the hat did not arrive today, but it will soon. I am sure of it. What I did get was my copy of “The Artful Blogger” with your blog featured in it! I was thinking, “Oh! I ‘know’ her!”. 😉
I’ll let you know as soon as the party had arrives! 🙂

  11. Shell says:

We have wild bunnies here too along with groundhogs, geese, bluebirds, seagulls..it’a wild kingdom around here even though I’m still in the city.
I like the little girl in the tutu. She is so cute. I see all your creatures are leaving you. I do wish I had one home with me here.
Well, enjoy having fun with your parents.
I love Tristan too. He is a sweetheart and so creative.

  12. Laura says:

Love the new stuff. Absolutely sweet!

  14. Rhonda says:

Hey its that famous V! Snap a pic quick! ha!
Totally digging the pixie child outfit, i think i already have the socks…:-)I’ll wear it to the next Aerosmith concert, if I cant borrow the mad hatter’s outfit, right down to his metallic teal boots (my happy place = the flikr of your tea party…i swear you should be charging me for gazing at it, daily, at work, and muttering my mantra, “you are there roo, you are there”)
LOVED the T Mobile thing! I know I am ridiculous for this, but it got me all excited and happy inside-isnt it cool to see human nature have a syncopated happy moment (even if it is a commercial)? its a whole new way of social networking, hah!
OK paella and sangria look good, and the tartelette whoa… but-yummmmmm to the juicing..what exactly is your concoction ratio, if you dont mind my asking? How uber healthy you are!!!
Guess you need it since you are taking on the role of our lady patron of the eggs yet to hatch….:-)
    xoxox roooo
PS I sang depeche mode for a whole day!

  15. Vicki says:

Great post Vanessa! I loved the Youtube’s… which I had never seen. Take care of those tiny eggs! Can’t wait to see them hatch. (:
    Vicki

  16. I’m with ya on protecting the baby eggs. I had to do Hawk watch this past summer, at the pool with my Bunnies and squirrels. I hope ya have a wonderful night. Big Hugs~

  17. waterrose says:

I’m glad Mister L let you out to play! And, I’m also glad to see that you work area isn’t sparkling neat…I’ve seen a few too many of those lately and it makes me look around at mine and groan.

  18. Oh no! Oh no! You have been so busy and I have missed so much here. Beautiful pictures and oh my gosh those cupcake dessert girls are just the most wonderful things I’ve seen! And I missed out on them. Never ever will I be so busy to not check here again! Miss V! You’re just amazing!
P.S. My mother was having peach salsa and chips just the other day for breakfast and she is 78 years young!

  19. icantsew says:

i love it when my baby girl, claudia (well she is 2 and a half but she is our baby) wears this fabulous all in one tutu with dorothy the dinosaur (an australian cahracter) on the front. she looks so sweet and everyone always comments. i used to try to get her to change before we left the house cause it really is a dress up style outfit, but now i just let her go… happy birthday to your bobbypin bandit sis
    %*_*%

  20. Amy says:

My dad used to sing me that song every morning before grade school. It was my elementary alarm clock. <3
What pretty pictures! I love them, yes, I do.
I love all the little Arizona animals 🙂 There aren't as many in the city, but the few I see are just so adoreable. In fact we had a super cute racoon and some bunnies by my dance studio the other day.
    The tart looks yummy. Mmmm.

  21. Cait says:

Aw, hehe I love this whole post! The tartlettes remind me of all sorts of pastries I want to try making.

  22. Sarah says:

Poor bunny! Mr Lovee’s right though I suppose. Love his jacket. Party looked fun and filled with delicious things. I like your Quail egg protector though at first I thought you had built some kind of skateboard ramp! I love that T-mobile video too-I love anything with big groups of people dancing in a synchronised way.
Oh-and cute picture of the little girl in her lovely outfit! I get quite jealous of some of the little girl’s clothes at school-some of them look so good! I think my five year old self is firmly still here and gets regular outings at school, battling the big bad wolf and making sand pies!
    Sarah x

  23. Chrisy says:

Always enjoy the feeling of being transported into another world as I read your ‘skipping through life’ posts!

  24. Michaele says:

Oh yes, not losing my magical inner-child is essential~ and is probably why I teach kindergarten! The laughter, opinions, curiosity, and joy of five year olds is contagious…now if only their energy levels were too!

  25. shibori girl says:

    Hey Missy!
So glad to her the Mister is feeling well enough to ground you Haha! I’m glad to hear the drama was limited to a few singular events. 😉
Oh, I grew up in the country – farm country in the Northeast, and there were always heartbreaking moments, like the time the cat brought home a baby bunny and it was so damaged that my Daddy had to end it’s suffering. I was only a Little Bit at the time, maybe 8? And I was so mad at him for doing it. Now, of course, I’d do it myself.
So, good on you for protecting quail babies!
I do hope Baby enjoyed her pate. :O
I saw that train station T-Mobile ad several weeks ago, and I have to say I smiled for days afterward. I wish I could have been there for that moment in time. So much planing, and it went off without a hitch.
I’ll be thinking of you today as you twirl in your orange flirty skirt…
    xoxoxo
    Kate

  26. Michelle says:

I think you must have been in a time warp and that really was five year old you! It sounds like a lovely, crazy week! Oh, poor Mr. Lovee, so abused. But at least he knows he is loved! Have a great weekend!

  27. Deborah says:

I LOVE the photo of the hawk…the way you captured the play of light and shadows…the depth in the photo makes me dizzy. You could make the little egg photo into an Easter card, it is so delightful! I simply adore how you pursue life with abandon. I love seeing through your magical eyes. **blows kisses** Deborah

  28. Cori. G says:

You are so darling O Fanciful One!! I believe I saw that little girls outfit just last week and in your size! But the tutu was blue! Will that do?
Hagitha was such a appointment over the weekend. While I was busy playing and dancing she was doing who knows what. I fear that if I sent her your way she would just create little whirlwinds of messes and mayhem all over your studio. And of course you would find her laying in the dirt (with all your ribbons in her hair) naming and taming all the bunns, whooing them to her like the pied piper. Oh! And poor Mister Lovee would find all his Limequat curd jars missing or empty. She really is a naughty little thing that Hagitha :).
I hope you have a lovely Sunday!!! Today is Palm Sunday! I must be off!!!!!
    xoxo Cori

  29. Thanks so much for the t-mobile–I don’t have tv, so I never get to see commercials. I really loved this one!! I love that people are creative enough to break into fun in the middle of these huge public places where everyone was previously going about their own business. Hooray for global fun-makers.
Also, I am so happy that you share your photographs. You take such great shots, and it is nice to see that there is actually spring happening somewhere in the world. At least are bunnies are starting to turn brown now….

  30. Vickie says:

I love the T Mobile video, it’s fabulous!! Sounds like you had a busy week. Sorry to hear about the bunny 🙁 I drive to work a certain way because of all the bunnies. I get very sad when they try to dash across the road and don’t make it. Hope lunch with the parental units was fun.

  31. Scheharazade says:

    The rabbit is adorable !^^

  32. devil mood says:

Oh I know…I feel like a 5 year old most of the time. It’s just ridiculous. And then I expect people who are my age to behave the same way haha
I also stopped drinking coffee for a while last year and I was fine about it. But then I went back to my cup-a-day and it just feels right at the moment.

  33. Cassandra says:

Oh goodness. Thanks for that youtube goodness. Me and my babes sat and watched it twice. It almost made me teary eyed with happiness. So many people dancing = serious magic.
I’m right there with you eating chips and salsa for breakfast. Yum…

  34. rosebonbon says:

    Hello Miss V.!
I’m so happy you got published! And that your talent is being recognized! I know that sometimes there are tough times when people try to brake your butterfly wings and we feel like broken butterflies… But if you believe in magic and fairies, things will fall into place. And so they did… I really can’t say how much you’ve inspired me and kept me company in fairy-butterfly world…
I really am happy for you, truly.
Oh, and if you liked the T-Mobile Dance, check this one out – It’s in Belgium, to the sound of Julie Andrews’ Sound of Music (it got me to tears, anyway…) Enjoy!
Lots of fairy dust love ***

  35. DENISE says:

Sorry to hear about the baby bunnie pate! Sad animal “stuff” always makes me cry. I can’t even THINK of watching Marlee & Me! Wonderful photographs as usual!

  36. ylva says:

you are such a sweetheart :). swedish must be a very strange language to non-swedes. i would love to have heard you reading it! and i’m curious about that one word. i know that the blog can be translated into english using google, but… well… i tried it and i’m not sure it would make more sense to you *lol*. perhaps not the best of translations ;). to google’s defence i have to say that i can imagine my blog being very difficult to translate because i have a way of my own with words ;).
i’m talking too much… anyway, i love this post and i’m incredibly envious of tristan’s creation! i want one too! the painting looks so promising… and i’m happy you got to get out, even if you were grounded and all ;). i think keeping your inner child helps you a lot while doing the beautiful things you do, but tell me… i remember reading something about always sleeping on your back to prevent marks and wrinkles. sorry, just teasing you ;).

  37. Catherine says:

WHat a cute, brilliant, funny and true post 😀
Love everything about your blog 🙂

  38. sumea says:

    Hello again
I just Love this post, your photographs are Gorgeous!!! and I love the way you write ~ you write as if you are Singing.
Thankyou so much for your good wishes for my dear sister.
I am so glad that you have not let your Playful child disappear. My five year old is also still very much alive in this 50 year old body ;O)
Wishing you a Wonderful, Magical, Playful, Rainbow week
    xx
    Sumea

  39. Hello Miss Vanessa,
OMG!!! Another amazing post, exquisite photos…and Paella Valenciana? Ole! Love it!
    I missed that party…
And congrats to Tristan, amazing work!
But it was expected, wasn’t it? :o)
    ~ Gabriela ~

  40. I’m right there with you on the five year old thing! As I age, my greatest fear is not the inevitable failing of my body, or that I’ll display the signs of aging – My greatest fear is the shrinking of my world and the narrowing of my mind. I don’t ever want to lose the magic of childhood, that sense of wonder and openness…the excitement of discovering new things, exploring new ideas….I think age should be an awakening. 🙂
OMG – I think your post about this aging thing, and your sister’s fabulous birthday celebration just now gave me a SCATHINGLY brilliant idea!! (channeling Hayley Mills here)…A 50th birthday party on the blog this summer, hehe…..must give this some thought. 😉
Have to add, I’m giggling here at your Mr. Lovee. My husband gets cranky when I post about him too. For the most part I avoid it, but sometimes it’s just too good to resist, hehe….Last night I threatened to post some old rock and roll band photos, circa about 1978, teeehee! (He was not amused)…
    Happy Creating!
    ~ Carolee
PS – sorry about the bunnies. I cry when cats get birds too. 🙁

  41. tiffany says:

Is that how that song really goes? My dad always sang us … every morning!… “We’re all in our places with egg on our faces!” .. ANd.. we never ate eggs.. we always had cold cereal or pancakes.. He’s just silly!

  42. JO says:

OMGoodness what a joy of a post…. that T Mobile commercial which I have never seen made my day…
Your Mr Lovee bless his heart… we wont tell anyone he might …notice I did say MIGHT be …accident prone …shhhhhhh
Your little babies in the post below… oh my how darling!! I want to kiss every single one of them!!!! And bring them to my house and.. give them cookies and play with them and put them to sleep…..
Your hawks and quails and bunnies are adorable… I think to make yourself feel better about puppys bunny meal …. I too would say it is a process of nature…unfortunately one that we dont want to see happen but it does
So thanks for bringing some sunshine into my rainy … April showers will bring May flowers…day
    LOT OF HUGS
    JO

  43. You’ll never get old, Vanessa. Your post reminded me of a quote. I’m not sure who said it, but it’s, “When I grow up I want to be a little girl.” Twyla

  44. Gina says:

    Full of beautiful pics!
Yummy looking dessert. I love lemon!
I wish I had more nerve to take pictures of people I don’t know like you did with that little girl. She reminded me of Rainbow bright.
You must show the quails chickies when the arrive. My husband use to raise them and they were always so cute and so so tiny.
Hope you have a great week!

  45. Chris says:

Oh, it’s so difficult when your doggie eats a critter! We get SO mad at our dogs, and they are only doing what comes naturally. Our current dog doesn’t do that, because when she gets up to the animal, she stops because she’s not sure if they’re going to get her!
I LOVE lemon and lime tarts! Those look yummy. And we used to juice all the time. one of my favorites is carrot, garlic, and apple juices. YUM!

  46. LuLu Kellogg says:

Ohhhhh I hope your sister had a wonderful birthday. Mr. Lovee looks fabu in his lavender blazer. You think your hair had a mind of it’s own….you should see mine…it’s all pixie short but when I wake up in the mornings I am always sporting a mohawk from my head getting shoved between pillows when I am dreaming. Think of Billy Idol with his finger stuck in a light socket! *giggle*
    Love,
    LuLu~*xoxo

  47. SueAnn says:

We stroll along an enchanted lane and hear the fairies singing. Encouraging us to continue down this path and to embrace the wonder of nature. There are tragic moments, of which we all mourn; and fabulous moments we celebrate vigorously. The magic of each day is missed by so many…I am glad you are one to bathe in it. Can we laugh too much?? Can we see enough?? Oh I hope not!!!!
    Hugs
