Tiny Nooks

What is it about the little things we are drawn to?  Tiny bits and bobs that we place on a shelf.  Things that bring us happiness, and make a space our own…

Studio Flower 5

A lot of the things on our shelves might mean nothing at all to someone else.

That's only natural…

But to the owner, they mean so much.

Memories, feelings, moments, inspirations and more…

Studio Flower 6

I love to surround myself with items that express how I feel on the inside.  They sort of curiously remind me everyday, of well, me.

Secret nooks.

A space to fill with you-ness. (what's hiding in your nook?)

I like simple, sweet and happy on my shelves.

Each bit, important in its own way.

Studio Flower 4

Sure, these things called "our stuff" might be meaningless in the grand scheme of things, but creature collections, no matter how minuscule, do have their meaning to the beholder.

Studio Flower 7

Have you ever been missing a tiny golden thread?  Or one little itty bitty microscopic thing you placed on your shelf?  And you act as though that item has vast meaning to your existence?

Like, where is that teensy rock I put here???

Who took my teensy rock?

🙂

Our collections seem to be a form of expression of who we are.

I for one am intrigued by what others collect.

Are you?

Studio Flower 2

My shelves change all the time.

Maybe not much, but they do.

Colors I love.

Faces I love to see…

Random things that make me smile.

Studio Flower 1

These nookling shelves make me feel like it's my birthday.

Like, I should be really really happy.

And today, I really am feeling pink and flowery, with touches of pretty blue.

I enjoyed my hidden space this morning, more than I have in almost two weeks.

Why you ask?

Well, Miles has been sick, and I have been making him homemade food to aid his tummy (and we have been monitoring his every moment).  We've had emergency vet runs, and lots of all-nighters (especially last week).  But he is almost 100% better (fingers crossed), and nothing was wrong with him in his tests.  Just  a puppy with a sick tummy, but still rather playful.

I can tell he is feeling almost back to normal (fingers crossed again).

Today was an extra nice day indeed.

A day to stop and notice my silly creature collections, and even dust them a bit…

Whilst whispering hello.

Studio Flower 3

There was rain all night to aid my seeds, a rare thing here.

And lots of pink, for smiles.

But enough of me, how are you?

How's your little world?

Love, V

A Sparkly Heart see you soon

  2. Cori G. says:

Oh we must have been dancing on the same moon bean. Just today I was searching frantically for a treasure I never found. Of all things to misplace…a cake plate! Not a weence one, no indeed, but a GINORMOUS one with a baby blue rim and big happy white polk-dots. Have you seen my missing cake plate, Miss V.? I have searched high and low and it’s no where to be seen. The only thing I can imagine is that I had a wonky moment in time and gifted it to a friend of mine ;-(. So sad, but maybe happy for her ;-).
Your poor little Mister Miles and your poor little nerves!! I bet that was a trying week, but I’m glad he’s feeling better and getting back to his puppy self. It’s such a worrisome thing when they don’t feel good and we don’t know what’s wrong. I will keep his little furry self in my prayers ;-).
    Much love to you!!!!!
    xoxo cori

Giant heaps of get well wishes to Miles!!!!

  14. Jill James says:

Love the little lights twinkling behind your treasures…..did you have someone build its cubby hole adorableness?
I found the top of a small curio cabinet w/rounded glass sides at a thrift store & put it in this nook beside my stairway….in it are cabinet cards, old pictures, old jewelry in velvet boxes, baby shoes, tiny 100 year old photo albums, baby bracelets, victorian wicker sewing cases, dried roses from my mom’s funeral spray…..all tied together with a “Remember Me” ribbon & ornate keys…..it was so sad to see all these relatives languishing in a hatbox, so I rescued them & put them out…..I really love the collaged look of collections
    Sending doggy kisses to Miles…..

  15. Miss Linda says:

I am keeping my fingers crossed…Please keep us posted. Huggs and kisses from Bella and Penny Lane.
It’s nice to stop and look around at our little treasures…If we don’t the world will pass us by. I enjoyed looking, and the little song was wondrous.

  16. Flavia says:

We feel so worried when puppies get sick, huh? But, it’s good to hear he’s better already. 🙂
I miss my dog, cause I’m away from home now. But, where I’m staying, there are two furry girls. One is a Golden, like Miles. The other one kind of look like Matty (I just notice that). They makes things much happier.
All the best for you all, Vanessa!

  17. Your shelves are gorgeous! I feel totally inspired by them. The colors are so alive.
Have you ever asked your vet about giving your doggies probiotics? I had a dog with a sensitive stomach and I emptied a capsule into jam, mixed it for her(she was picky) and gave it to her 3 times a week. It did wonders for her. No more upset stomachs!

  18. Your little nook is so whimsical and lovely Ms. Vanessa…it makes me smile too!
    Hugs,
    Jamie 🙂

  19. Betty says:

    Dearest Mlle. Vanessa,
I couldn’t agree more about the teeny, tiny things that can mean so much. I always create little spaces with my tiny things in them. On my bedside table are the following:
-one of the vases we had on the table of our wedding reception (it looks like a piece of art deco pottery, but it’s new)
-my favorite lip gloss, Sweet Cream, from Tokyo Milk (I even kept it in the box because it has a vintage cupcake on it, decorated in glitter!). It sits on top of one of their soaps, whose wrapper has Marie-Antoinette on it.
-a tiny vintage ceramic black cat and her two kittens (I’m more of a dog person, but this kitties make me happy)
-a dark pink organza flower hand-made by a women’s group in Soweto, South Africa (another looks-old-but isn’t)
-a tiny ceramic sea-gull that belonged to my mother. I just glued his wings back on after he was broken while cleaning up.
And my mother must be thinking about me today. “You Are My Sunshine” was always one of her favorite songs and she loved music boxes.
    Hugs to you today,
    Betty

  20. Betty says:

Oh! And please give Miles get-well hugs from us!
    xoxo,
    Betty

  21. m says:

My sweet little Bonsai the wiener dog is sick too. He threw up most of the day yesterday and has no interest in food today. It’s so alarming when my pets are sick. I get this rock of fear in the pit of my stomach and wonder how I will ever live without them when that time comes. It’s hard to concentrate on anything else.

  22. rochambeau says:

    F A B O O O L O U S
    N O O K !
And I like your collection of object that touch you and you have displayed them very well.
I too have a shelve with lots of pretties. Sometimes I’ll see a little animal at a garage sale and I JUST MUST have it. It speaks to me and inspires me my little collection of papers and candies and masks and crowns.
Glad to hear your Miles is feeling mucho better.
    A dreamy post.
    Thank you
    I needed that!
    Love,
    Constance

  23. Linda Diane says:

The sweet notes of that music box bring back memories. My mother, now 77 years old, used to sing that song to me!
Your collection of whatnots is soothing to the eye. Very lovely.
Tummy problems are no fun, and I am sorry Miles is having them. So glad he is doing better!

  24. On my shelves are treasures from my many trips to Santa Fe….over the years it’s turned into quite the collection and I have to show them off.
Sorry for poor Miles – you did say he likes to eat everything in your gardens….uh oh. Get well soon sweet boy!

  25. GG Pinkster says:

A little sunbeam came my way,
    On the winds of today.
Oh look and wink and step this way,
A basket of wonder bringing play.
A little song tiny dews sing-
To honor and capture blossoming spring.
On the winds of the night,
Rain blessing the seeds blossoming sight.
Simply marvelous the nooks and crannies,
Songs and memories of children and grannies.
Are filling my heart and my ears,
All of this brings the years-
    Of love dreams, tears…
Hurray for springs pinking with blue,
And who do I see jumping around you?
In vines and twine and stars of gold
A secret that is new and old.
    Hiding here and glowing there-
    Beauty is everywhere.
Moon in Spring nooks and crannies fling a ring a ting.
    Sunrises sing.

  26. cfortin82 says:

    Best Wishes to Miles.
I wish my collections of stuff (in my case read junk) where as pretty as yours.

  27. Lisa Swifka says:

I love little nooks and crannies that can showcase ones treasures, large or small. There is something to be said for surrounding oneself with even the tiniest memory. I had to box some of my stuff up for the time being but a studio revamp this Spring will hopefully have places for them again.
I hope sweet Miles is feeling his oats again with no tummy probs. You’re a good Mommy.
    XOXOXOXO

  28. Rochelle Bee says:

Absolutely beautiful!! Exactly what I envision for my home someday…
p.s. I have a music box exactly like that only it plays a different song. My grandfather gave it to me.

  29. Oh look. You are such a dear.🖤
This post said everything I always would have loved to have been able to write myself. Somehow you just know the right words to say what I am feeling. 🙂
I am planning to post something soon, on my little nooks and crannys…with all the associated meaningless but enormously essential nic-naks that have found a home with us.
I loved looking through your nooks that reveal your you-ness. One can never tire of seeing ‘beautiful’.
I was actually quite worried to learn of young Miles illness. So releaved to know the dear little furboy is well on the mend now. I wonder what caused the cafuffle in his tummy?? Maybe he ate something questionable that he found under a bush or something?
    🖤V

  30. I too am intrigued by collections and especially what is tucked away in nooks and crannies that holds special meaning and gives us a glimpse into the Soul of the owners. I am an incurable collector!
I’m glad that young Miles is on the mend… any Mama gets alarmed when her wee ones are not well… Love and TLC are a good medicine… Happy Spring… Dawn… The Bohemian

  31. Renee says:

I like nooks with special treasures. I like books in nooks too. I try, try, try to be organized but I always manage to misplace something.
What do I collect-books, cookbooks, cookbook booklets, pastel colored Pyrex, luncheon plates, bits of this and bits of that.
I love the shelves. Hope Miles is well soon.

  32. Jackie Leonard says:

The rose with the chicken feet…..there has to be story there somewhere!!!
Well wishes for Miles. Fondly, The “poop” Lady

  33. Hi Vanessa,
I love your treasures and the color scheme is perfect.
I have just finished (well almost finished) my art room…organizing and creating special places for my treasures. I have thought about why each bit is so special, and which ones I need to part with. I collect inspiration, so my collection is quite eclectic. Lately I feel drawn to Vintage things, but then again I am Vintage.
I hope Miles is all better soon. Have a beautiful day.
    Karen

  34. Theresa says:

Oh, I am SO sorry to hear sweet Miles has been ill. Hopefully now, with my late visit, he is feeling much better. Give that sweet puppy belly an extra little rub from me. 🙂 I loved seeing all your special treasures. I collect many little things – I have sand castles, gargoyles, owls, faeries, foxes, lots of Nightmare Before Christmas goodies. Every little thing means something to me. Maybe where I found it, or who gave it to me, or why I got it to begin with. All so very precious – and while meaningless to some, they are priceless to others. 🙂 Have a most beautiful weekend, dear friend! xoxo Theresa

  35. Shell says:

I’ve had one heck of a cold since Tuesday. I feel for Miles. It’s no fun being sick. I’m sure by the time I write this, he is probably all better.
I love nooks. You know what’s even better than decorating with nooks. Having a small nook to call your own to sit, read, write and look up at the sky too.
