The Fairy Circle…

We live in that curious space, where the desert meets the forest.

Where each step up the mountain brings you closer to toadstools and fairy glamour.

Fairy circle 2

The air is fresh, the sun is bright.

The winter is mild compared to cold places, with snow only in February, maybe once.

The summer very hot, but dry.

Until the monsoon rains roll in for two hot/humid summer months.

If we are lucky it will rain 17 days out of a year.

And so, it’s safe.

A safe place for winged beings to make a home.

If it gets too warm, they can always flutter way high, up to the top of that cool forest mountain.

Fairy circle 3

Our little piece of earth has a tiny tree and shrub laden path surrounding it.

Made by a certain manboy ages/years ago.

(17 years or so)

There is one extra special place I visit first thing every morning.

With bed messed hair and groggy eyes, I stumble through the path, and into…

The fairy bower.

Fairy circle 9

Always, without fail, whispering…

“Come out from your fairy bower,

  Come upon this Golden hour.

Come to us we beg you please,

  Fairies dancing on the breeze.”

The bees are here these days.

Working away, buzzing beautifully.

So many bees.

I am so happy to see them.

Fairy circle 8

Through early sunshine…

Fairy circle 10

Wings glisten.

Fairy circle 11

I ask them if Mab or Princess Fruella have been by?

I drink in greedy gulps of fresh air.

As I look up through our beloved fairy bower.

Fairy circle 12

I bring some extra goodies for the fairy circle.

Fairy circle 7

I can tell they were here last night.

Fairy circle 4

I think they loved the porcelain box…

Fairy circle 14

And, acorn hats.

Fairy circle 18

And the lace tomatillo lanterns too.

Fairy circle 6

A fairy circle is sure to cure all that ails.

If you believe, then you know.

And, if you don’t believe, make one, you’ll see.

Something magical happens in those moments where fairy circle making takes place.

Fairy circle 15

You won’t believe the gifts you will find.

To the soul.

To the imagination.

If it’s too cold to make one outside, you can make one inside, even on a window sill.

The fairies will find it.

That’s what chimneys, vents and windows are for.

Fairy circle 17

I hope they return some of my treasures they have borrowed soon.

My beloved bee pin.

My emerald gyspy necklace.

Fairy circle 1

Speak quick, if you believe in fairies…

Sparkly heart

yes -the fairies love treats in the air or on the ground they are around.

  2. Cori G. says:

Oh Dear! Me thinks I spied me wee faerie hat on the ground beneath your tomatillo lantern. I was wondering where I dropped it last night :-))).

I do believe in fairies, I do, I do!

  6. Hahaha – at what Alia above me said. I do, I do, too! 🙂
My only catch is that I won’t go dancing with fairies, especially not at night, nor in their fairy ring. I don’t want to be held captive “at the ball” for centuries until my body withers and drops dead.

  7. Tina says:

    You know I do x

  8. Side note, I love your FAT frog with the flower on his head…so cute!

  9. val says:

absolutely…mine have a humble fairy house, here is the link: http://yarnigras.blogspot.com/2010/02/fairy-house.html
It is a bit older now so once winter is past and they’ve moved out, I’ll do a few repairs.

  10. deb says:

I DO believe in fairies!! 🙂

  11. Miss Linda says:

Like Alia said…..I do believe in Fairies, I do I do. It is too cold for the Fairies here, we are in a frozen tundra… I do put out small beds of straw for them to keep warm by. I have invited them in to live in my fairy houses high on the shelf… I hear squeals of joy once in a while, but I don’t want to bother them by peeking.

  12. Oh Misha!!! You rock!! hahahahaaa!!

  16. Beti says:

One night late in cold cold Georgia January up high in the tree tops at small light much like that of a firefly, although we all know that in 30 degrees a firefly is not flying…. I do believe in fairies.

  17. Sue says:

They whispered in my childhood ears
And darted in and out my room
I closed my eyes, promised not to peek,
But sadly, they left too soon.
I seek them now in fairy woods
Where frogs and rabbits hop each day,
But they are wise and leave no trace
Whenever they come out to play!

  18. Sarah says:

    Beautiful photos!

  19. We have fairies too!! Love the laced lanterns…those are really neat. Hugs Ms. V.
    Jamie 🙂

  21. Miss Jenn, it literally is. The mountain I see from my garden is
    forest 🙂

  22. ps: Mister Lovee is standing by me, and he just gave me some
    pointless trivia to share, hahaha!
This is the only place in the country that goes from a saguaro studded
desert to a snow capped mountain peek within just a few miles…. wild
    right?

  23. I certainly believe in fairies! But the ones that live here seem to be those of the mischievous kind. They always hide just one of my socks. And when I go back to pick up a book that I left open to exactly the right spot, I always find it closed. But perhaps it is all my fault. We don’t live near any fairy forest. I never thought of making a fairy circle on a window sill. I have tiny shells and bits of gold foil paper I’m sure they would love. I’ll try leaving some tonight. Maybe then they’ll bring me back my socks. It’s so cold where we live. I definitely need both socks!

  24. Hahahaa, oh William! That is so funny!! You neeeed socks when
its cold, brrrrrrr!! Those sneaky lil fairies 😉

  34. laura says:

i looove fairies! i found a little den they had made in the mountain behind our family house and i added some steps for them so it would be easier to get in and out without tiring out their wings. i check on it every time i go up there and try to leave them little gifts.
    love & blessings

ps…hugs & kisses to matty and miles

  35. Melanie says:

I do believe! One of my favorite parts of Peter Pan with Mary Martin is when she/he asks us to clap if we believe in fairies so we can save Tinker Bell!
Whenever I’m in the garden, especially early morning, I feel them there. My neighbor always gives me fairy gifts, because she knows. She just gave me a fairy door with a sign that says “Sorry we missed you, we’re dancing in the garden. – The Fairies” Have you heard of the fairy doors of Ann Arbor? I made my handy hubby make me one a few years ago after a friend’s husband told us about them after returning from a business trip there. It’s a miniature of my actual front door. Such magic. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairy_Doors_of_Ann_Arbor,_MI

  36. We love the fairies! We always “find them” in the woods.
