Swirling amongst the madness…

Just when I scoffed at Mercury in retrogade…  I blinked, and my life was encased in a vessel full of water.  Drowning and being shaken all around.  I am officially living in a snow-globe.  Are any funny and strange things happening to you?  Let me kow…

I decided to create in order to avoid some of the madness.  All the creations turned up in the loony bin.  I mean,  in my SHOP.

Cake_cards

All of the prints versions, of the cards above, are also available. They are on canvas and they look indescribable in person.  They are so lovely on this canvas….

This is a short post, as Mr. Lovee is away, and I am trying to have a Miss Potter weekend. Starting now.

Also, I have driving school all day tomorrow, which I am so excited about?  Ya sure. Off I go, showing my exquisite driving skills.  The truth is. I got a ticket, and in AZ, if you want it to be wiped off your record – and you have not had a ticket  for a long time- Then, you get to take 8 hours of driving school as punishment.  Oh and pay $200.00 USD

  2. Chantal says:

I watched the Miss Potter movie this week and really liked it. Enjoy your B. Potter weekend and all the driving!

  3. Paris Parfait says:

Yes, this mercury in retrograde business is getting out of hand! Sorry about the driving school, but at least it’s only for a day. As for the story about Astrid and your uncle, it’s hilarious – and you’ve created art to illustrate it! Wonderful. You’ve made me laugh (and as you know, laughter hasn’t exactly been forthcoming with the mercury-retrograde results, but hope is on the horizon). xo

  4. sarah says:

Wow that story about Astrid is so crazy. Imagining her poddles reminded me of the lime green and fuschia wedding lambs in Nanny McPhee!!!

  5. allyson says:

That has to be one of the coolest childhood memories ever! It should go in a “really cool childhood memories” book. I can’t help but feel sorry that Astrid lost her mustached man though, kinda sad. Did she ever remarry?
I had to resist buying Miss Potter last night…I’m waiting for it to go OnDemand but it’s not there yet, is it worth 20.00? I don’t like buying movies but it’s so hard to wait!

  6. lou says:

i love how you call your shop the loony bin!
This was a very fascinating read, on a noce relaxing afternoon, it was a pleasure to meet Astrid and your uncle, not forgetting the multicoloured poodles:)
Oh, and my sister is obsessed with the miss potter stuff. Gaaawd.
xxx and what is Lovee’s surprise i wonder….?

  7. carolyn says:

Oh no now I’m worrying about the Mercury retrograde and Saturn has only just left my sign and I’m going doolally….

  8. Sarah says:

Have fun at drivers school. Draw a picture of me!

  9. eb says:

yes – most everything has been retro mercury – waiting… and some anxiety… but that monkey and the elephant in progress… and being in the groove with the kid… when you get the blues – (in this case retro mercury) hang with the Muse.
That kid has sold paintings that are in homes all over the U.S., was interviewed by our local news at age 5, made $1100.00 for the Humane Society,… he’s always been my greatest teacher…
    xox – eb.

  10. Sonya says:

I adore that story and all your stories Vanessa. And thanks for the tip of Mercury Retrograde- tricky time, it certainly explains some things!

  11. Stephanie says:

What a story…what delightful characters, very…ughhhhh, what is that movie called???? It was Australian, a group of transvestites traveling in a bus with a huge shoe on top!!!!! I loved it and cannot remember the name….I googled the clues and got some scary results:)

  12. rochambeau says:

Your Great Uncle looks dashing walking Astrid’s
    pink poodle.
Also, I like your new card sets very much!

  13. freelisa says:

ooh! they both sound divine! i have so much admiration for anyone who writes a unique definition for themselves. divine, indeed!

  14. risa says:

i loved the movie miss potter. grand! and your uncle sounds like a character. i love uncles and aunts that are eccentric. they are the best kind! 🙂

  15. tiffany says:

You see.. that is one of the many reasons I like to visit you here Vanessa.. it’s just never boring. That is quite a story. I have some strange relatives too, but I think maybe you win on this one. You should see my big smile!

  16. sadira says:

Oh yes, this Merc Retrograde is kicking my proverbial butt…I swear, I’ve had to take a million tiny steps back over the last few days every once in a while and say to myself, “what the??” and then remind myself of Merc. Damned Merc. Oh well, walk it off!
I love the story of Astrid, she sounds like quite a character…I had a friend once that had a poodle that they cut a mohawk on and then dyed it purple…he was a cutie! I wonder if my cat would let me do that to her?

  17. Rachelle says:

That is AWESOME. I want to be just like Astrid when I grow up!

  18. I love the mustache man….and the story borrowed from someone else but made to be your muse.
hope all is well and I am intrigued by your secrets.

  19. Cre8Tiva says:

i am in the midst of a snow globe mhyself…the new canvas items look beautiful…i guess you worked the kinks out of the printer…school is behind you now, since i am two days late reading this…the story is a hoot…i love poodles…smartest dogs i ever had…take care of yourself today…blessings, rebecca

  20. casapinka says:

Ooooh, Astrid sounds utterly fabulous. wonder where she is now – Astrid? Are you reading this?

  21. Jill says:

Great story! Astrid sounds like a true and real free spirit! We have a neighbor who has two standard poodles…one black…the other white. The white one is named Ralph. They run laps around our block… you can hear them coming…sounds a little like a horse stampede. Their mother (owner) lets them out the front door and says run… and away they go! Ralph…he is a biggggg boy! And he quite often is dyed light blue….Mama really wanted to dye him pink…but was afraid it might threaten his masculinity!!!

  22. cruststation says:

I hope you are enjoying your Miss Potter and Driving weekend. You always know the most magical of people, what a great story. I would love to have met Astrid (and your uncle), how hilarious! Love the new whimsical artwork in the shop, your head comes out with the most fascinating stuff…and, I wonder what it feels like to live in a Snow-Globe?

  23. Tessa says:

I enjoyed this post so, so much! I have lots to say…
*Eek! Mercury is *definitely* in retrograde over here… tons of craziness happening – too much to even describe! How much longer, sigh?
*I am loving the new work and how you are turning to artmaking to fend off the craziness. It’s great how well that works, isn’t it? 🙂
*Have you seen “Miss Potter”? I love the story of her life and the world she made for herself.
*Thanks so much for the fun story – yay for sharing childhood memories! Your words created fantastic visual images in my head of your uncle, Astrid, and those silly pups. My dog tries to dye herself colors by jumping into the bathtub as I wash silkscreen ink out of my screens! She often has hot pink paws because of this…

  24. cheeky says:

Good grief! Let me get this straight? They collect $200 from you, you don’t get to pass GO and they torment you for 8 hours with the wonderful and oh-so-lovely rules of the road? Whewee . . . poor pet. I will be tinking of you.
Can I just say I LOVE BEATRIX POTTER.
The cards are fantabulous. I need to head over to the Shop and make a purchase one day. I love all your fanciful creations, and you make me laugh too!
    xo

  25. cally says:

  26. Karen Beth says:

I really want to see Miss Potter and might try to soon. It looks like a flick that I would enjoy.
I can make a plug for your cards. They are FABULOUS! I have a set of them and just love love LOVE them! I’m in the process of trying to decide which ones to keep and frame and which to send. Ha! I’m such a hoarder.
    Love to you, dearie! 🙂

  27. cindy says:
