I love Sunday Morning.
Coffee Brewing…
Grapefruit + grapefruit spoon.
Rye toast, sunshine, NPR, Liane Hansen's voice,
Garrison Keillor, pups, the Sunday paper.
Many of the same rituals as every morning, yet, it feels different.
Maybe because it includes boys who…
Crawl back into their beds…
Whilst I make curtains.
Then there's
1 o'clock lunch prep.
A rough cut of veggies for our lox treat.
It's funny, I take hundreds of everyday photos.
Lots of food pictures.
Like, the colors of my juicing pulp.
(Carrot and beet pulp make incredible colors)
So many photos of our day-to-day lives, and yet, I rarely share them.
I intend to.
(note the thick blond eyelashes, tee hee)
But time…
Time is a tough thing to wrangle in, you know?
So today, let's savor the layers of our Sunday eats, and some everyday photos.
Shall we?
(I took these a couple of Sundays ago, but we are having the same thing today)
Left over mashed potatoes and 4 eggs make incredible potato pancakes…
Topped with… (from bottom to top)
Sour cream (the real stuff).
(you can use cream cheese)
Avocados.
Vine ripened tomatoes.
Lox.
Red onions.
More sour cream.
And a dollop of caviar, for a hint of salty ocean goodness.
Oh and, don't forget a few capers too.
(I looove capers, but caper-berries freak me out, you? I once had a particularly bad flavored inner fleshy skin tone one, that scarred me for life. So, I'll stick to capers.)
This is one of my most favorite eats.
I could have it everyday.
After our nosh, I go back to my thing, and Mister goes outside to work on his things.
There is always somethig to do out there.
Our list is never ending.
So, when late afternoon rolls in…
I always make an afternoon delight pick me up for Mister.
(I do this on Saturday too)
A large cup of coffee, one package of cocoa mix, and some whipped cream.
Oh, and a dash on cinnamon.
(I always steal a sip or two)
He loves this.
He Mmmms while he sips.
(I got a few thriftventures yesterday, along with this shirt for Mister, which he has decided to use for working in the yard, but it's uncanny how it matches the mug)
And yes, he is always plugged in to NPR.
I should have never given him my walkman arm band thingie.
🙂
Everyday photos.
Heartwarming.
Oh and, how about this one…
Miles begs Matty to break him out of his little room.
Matty is always on baby brother alert.
He even tugs on my sleeve, if Miles gives the slightest whimper.
Well, I better get back to work.
I was on a roll working on a project, and making curtains, and then, I got off track talking your ear, err, eyeballs off.
Sooooooo….
Off I go for now.
ps: Have you seen Blood into Wine? Do you like Maynard James Keenan of Tool (and A Perfect Circle?). I love that he has a winery in Az. And I loved the movie, it was funny too. I saw it a couple of months ago, but his winery and it's locale have been on my mind this morning. More about Caduceus Cellars here…

Hello Miss Vanessa!!! Happy Sunday to you! I enjoyed seeing your wonderful everyday photos – it is truly the little things in life that count! Those treats look soooo yummy – why not send me a bit? LOL I absolutely love avocados – guacamole is one of my favorite things. 🙂 Young Miles is growing more handsome by the day. Yes, Sundays are definitely relax kind of days. Thank you for sharing your beautiful day – hope you are well! xoxo Theresa
Ooh, what thriftventures!? I love your everyday photos. Even though I don’t really like lox, caviar, or capers, you make it look so delicious!
ps. your boys are adorable, and I was thinking about how you only have two animals…if I had a lovely bit of land such as yours I would probably have all sorts of creatures, (but then, I just can’t control myself so maybe it is better that I don’t!) starting with chickens! I have always wanted chickens.
Dearest V – Looks delicious! I love that you make such an effort to make simple things beautiful and delicious. So inspiring. In our new place, I’m going to make more of an effort to do the same (and not get sidetracked by too many deadlines)! Love to you, the Mister and the boys. xoxox
Ahhhhh. Bliss. That’s my new word: bliss. Love your lunchie and your breakfastie…everything looks so elegant and fresh and delicioso. Today i made some soup sort of stuff with whatever was handy (pasta beans carrots cauliflower zucchini tomatoes), which was declared perfect with the addition of hot sauce and cheese topping :p before that was cinnamon bread and fresh ground coffee…..now, i think i have to go make some coffee with cocoa! and sprinkling of cinnamon….yuuuummmmm….
isnt that pic of lovee & miles dreamy? {oh yes it is.}
dont ya love NPR? {oh yes ya do.}
isnt life wonderful? {oh yes it is.} 🙂
doesnt roo heart you? {oh yeah she does!!!}
XOXOXOVIIXOOXOX
we get to listen to Garrison Keillor, here in the UK on the BBC (radio), which I love listening too and makes me laugh. Your delicious food is making my mouth water and I’ve just eaten!!!! Lurving the piccys of all the boys. Good day today……. Hugs xxxx
Lovely everyday pics! I take lots of photos everyday too and am loathe to get rid of any so my computer is getting full up! I must edit more! I love the look of our healthy lunch-very fresh.x
oh yum! That drink is very similar to my favourite one at the café in town where I’m a regular 😀
Lord Have Mercy! Potato Pancake goodness w/more goodness on top – – – what a lovely nummy treat – – – speaking of every day…..you remind me of Alexandra Stoddard & her books about beautifying your every day life.
Thats a cozy little prison Miles is in! (LoVE the crocheted quilt)
The reason I love this blog is you focus on living!!!
Oh Miss Vanessa,
Thanks for always making me smile! By the way…I thought it to be curious that I too had a grapefruit for breakfast this morning.
Love to you, the Mister and the furry babies.
~~Dena
Love love loveee Maynard. Prefer A perfect circle to Tool but they are both awesome bands. Definitely defining bands for my youth 🙂 . Might go put put Mer de Nom on now
I made cherry scones with coffee today and douglas slept on my legs… it was great!
I met Maynard once after a Perfect Circle concert… he was a jerk.
I think it is the sweetest thing that Matty tugs on your sleeve when Miles whimpers. He really does care about that little bro of his! Is that crocheted goodness the blanket that you once wondered whether you should continue to add to for the rest of your life? Dooo be careful with it lest Miles decide to nibble on it!! I do love its beautiful colors, patterns, and textures. I loved looking at all your photos and hearing about your Sunday goings on!
I must say; an all out beautiful post. A perfect Sunday with all of its scenery, smells and treats. I love lox and bagles, I could eat it everyday. Miles sure is growing and learning from his big buddy Matty. have a wonderful week.
I really love the everyday sweetness of life and please share more of your everyday…because now I’m going to go out and get the fixings to make that delicious breakfast of yours. 🙂
It looks scrumptious!
I loved reading your comment today…yes! YES! I did get the vibes and maybe it was my imagination but you know I truly believe in the kinship of kindreds and kindling. Kidding. Kindling not really but the rest, yes!!
And laughter. Belly laughs from the gut. Gut wrenchingly funny and topped with lox snax.
xoxo
Say helllooooo to all the Bizarre Arizonians for me.
Out of curiosity, why don’t you ever show Mr. Lovey’s face? Has he asked to be anonymous? Actually it gives your stories mystery. My mom makes hamburgers with capers and it’s called beef ala linstrom in Sweden. I don’t know where the name comes from but it’s really good if you like capers. She also makes amazing grav lox with a dill topping. Grav lox I’m sure is made the same as your lox (like the kind you get at a Jewish deli?).
Katharine
I love your photos. They encourage me to try to become a better photographer! I love to cook and take many food shots myself.
Although it doesn’t take place in Arizona, another enjoyable wine movie is Bottle Shock. It tells the story of when CA wines surpassed French wines in a blind tasting. There is a wonderful sense of time and place.

Mmmm… that caviar made me drool. Now that I have dried my chin, must say, this is one of my fave posts of all, dear. It is so relaxing to see. Wallace Stevens’ poem about Sunday morning is one of my faves for that soft feeling in the beginning of the poem. I love the blankets you make, too! Great softy goodness! Take care dear! See you soon!
Your life looks so much more colorful than mine in every way. Thank you for sharing and letting us dream for a bit.
Our thriftventures are snowcovered and slippery so we are having adventures in decluttering and uncovering.
While not a coffee afficionato, adding cream to my hot chocolate and maybe some choco shavings is decadence around here.
Of course I always love glimpses of the boys.
The way you photograph the colors of food, makes them all so mouth-watering and hungry, Vanessa. I bet you could make even Matty and Miles’ food look good 😉 Did you know that you can make a form of capers from nasturtiam flowers? My mom used to grow capers this way:

happy belated sunday, my friend! (since it’s now monday and i am just not reading this…)
ooh, your sunday eats look divine!
i am, in fact, a caper-berry junky!! i keep them in the house all year round and eat them pretty much every day…i have gotten a bad, weird one from time to time, and it will put me off of them for a week or so, but then, the craving hits and i’m back to having them every day…
i will have to try the capers and caviar idea.. yum!!!!
V~
NPR and Garrison are a must for any Sunday 🙂
Wendy, I had heard that, and found it fascinating! Thank you so much for the link 😉
Katharine, Mister Lovee is a myseterious fella 😉 j/k (actually, somewhere on my blog there are a couple full shots of Lovee, including his face) But, he would rather just keep to himself and not be on my blog, tee hee.
Sarah, I saw bottle shock a wile back and thoroughly enjoyed it, you are right, it’s great!
Miss Linda Diane, Yes, that is that great wall of blanket…. and I am still working on it. I think :))) No, really I am 😉
Your Sunday looked and sounded wonderful.
I’ve never tried lox or caviar but the pictures made me think I should.
Even the coffee looks wonderful and I don’t like coffee and I have tried it:)
I love the picture of Mattie looking in on Miles, that is just so sweet.
I work every other weekend, so get to enjoy my Sundays off every other week. I like my days at home to cook special things.
Sweet post… I really enjoyed it and reminded me to take Sunday’s more seriously instead of cleaning like a mad woman. Thank you!
Take Care There :0)
Rainey
one sweet sunday in the life of a passionate sweet girl named ms. v.
oh that photo of the boys in bed!
love
kj
Can I come and live with you? 🙂 Love the avocado, tomatoes, etc. but I would need to eliminate the sour cream and caviar. I’m sure that would be ok…I’d keep everything else, including the capers. Looks like such a healthy dish!
The coffee looks divine too. Miles is totally a love bug! He is soooooo cute. It makes me smile to see pics of him and also the fact that Matty is so good with him.
Hope you have a wonder*filled week!
xoxo
Pat
Yummy food and delicious pups! What a day! 🙂
Sleeping in on a Sunday with a furry baby, listening to NPR, eating lox..yep I could do that 🙂 Making note to pick up bagels tomorrow am! Have a wonderful week ahead Vanessa~
The freshness of the food makes me really hungry.
~elaine~
Oh my goodness, it looks delicious Vanessa!! And your fluffy furball…oh my! How sweet of big brother to be on alert and tug your sleeve, tee hee.
Jamie 🙂
p.s. hey is that your blanket in the last pic?? You finished it!? yay
Every. Single. Shot. Is. MMMMMmmmmmm. Yummy. The boyz sleeping is The Sweetest. Reminds me of a quote I loved when my children were little; if only I could think of them as sleeping instead of recharging. **happy smiles** Deb
I love, love, love this breakfast…the only thing I do different is that we have it on homemade/European style rye bread.
I also adore you doggies…how cute are they.
Aaaahh…what a lovely lovely Sunday morning! Perfect! I savor my Sunday mornings much like you. I ALWAYS watch CBS Sunday morning to learn and catch up on life and culture while cooking french toast for the family. I too listen to NPR most every Sunday (and throughout the week) when I am working in my studio. Love Prairie Home! 😉
The food shots are YUMMY!!! Girl, is there ANYTHING you can’t do! Your talent is countless! Your Furbaby is BEYOND precious!
Looks like life is GOOD for you! 🙂
XOXO,Jenn
