Summer Tea Party…

A girl and her dog woke up in need of an adventure…

Tea in the garden 1

They packed a basket and headed out to the east.

(east side of our property these days, but we've got to pretend right?)

They actually had been planning this picnic amongst the beautiful purple blossoms gracing the area for days.

As the blossoms dropped they knew it was time to get out there soon.

And so today was the day.

A teacup and some treats, some plates and napkins…

And off they went.

On a mini adventure, to dream.

Now, we must add that creating beauty isn't always easy, but it's well worth it.

It takes a little work and perseverance, but the reward is wonderful.

And we would not have wanted to miss the blooming Texas ranger for anything.

A perfectly delightful day, hot but nice too –

Under the huge canopy of the Chilean mesquite tree.

A good reason to pack up some pretties…

Enjoy the season…

Be with my beau…

And a couple bees for good measure.

Down our twisty little path, outside the secret garden gate.

With bird song to delight us.

A lovely little day.

A tea party for no reason at all.

Which I must admit, we left up to go out and enjoy in the evening as well.

Last night we had a power outage for a few hours, it was fun to light candles and read poems under the flickering light.

I put batteries in my transistor radio and listened to songs whilst laying on the cool floor with my fur boys.

August always zooms by doesn't it?

And it feels like holidays fill the air starting in September.

So, it's time to really hug summer – even though it often lasts here until November.

And so, we live each day in the moment the best that we can, finding fun things to do and enjoy.

I have some garden things to put together this evening and I may collect some tomatoes as well.

Actually, I'll wait until early morning for that, best time to collect edibles and flowers is early.

How are you in your neck of the woods?

It is hot hot hot here.

The rain teases but does not come.

A second year of very little monsoon rain.

I think it has only rained twice all summer.

And yet, the desert greens up with just a tinge of water, like magic.

What a place, to need so little to transform.

I have some parcels I am eager to open.

I extra love parcels these days, don't you?

The boys are eager to go outside so I best be off.

But I'd love to hear how you are.

Love,

Vanessa

ps:

Today I listened to lots of songs whilst working on this post –

But I'll leave you with one of them…

It’s almost midnight and I’m sitting in my comfy chair with twinkle lights on. I’m listening to the rain tumble down and the thunder boom here. I don’t like to say we don’t need it, as I’m sure Mother Nature has a reason for it, but we’ve had a very wet spring and summer. (If I could I’d send some your way to keep the fire danger down.)
I love your tea post. All those beautiful colors! You make me want to go thrifting and antiquing for goodies!
    Have a magical night!

We are getting a break from the heat here in N. Calif. but it will be back. But there is always that day in Aug. When you notice the light has shifted and the wheel is turning toward the time of rest. Love your pretties the colors are so amazing!

Without the rains the heat has moved from enervating to exhausting. I love the setting of your August tea party. I might do that under my patio mesquite if my visitors will allow me. Since early July three great horned owls have been doing a summer residency on my patio. An adult and two juveniles. Those knuckleheads are fun to watch and without the monsoon rains they are staying longer as we keep a birdbath going. Various other birds come during the day to fuss at the owls who mostly sit impassively while the cardinals, cactus wrens and the occasional Coopers hawk give them a good talking to. I doubt the owls would mind if the other birds availed themselves of the water, but apparently the birds don’t think so. The hummingbirds pester the owls mercilessly: “I’m in your face, I’m in your face, I’M IN YOUR FACE!” The owls have played with a small pillow that came with the lounge chair. I wonder if they think it is prey. They take off for their night shift about 8 pm and we clean up after them. I hose myself down a little so I can stand the heat still rising from the concrete. It’s such a relief to not see smoke and fire on the mountain. Although the road opened up last weekend I haven’t the heart to drive up and see the Bighorn fire damage. Last month my husband and I spruced up our Arizona room a little and though it faces west and has no AC it has also served as somewhere else “to go” in this quarantine and makes a great owl-watching blind. I will take my tea with a large cube of ice! Clink-clink. Thanks for the pretty.

  4. How lovely! Your hobnail collection is so pretty, as are your tea accoutrements. I am currently reading blogs on the upper level porch at our lake cabin overlooking a marina on beautiful Lake Martin, Alabama. It is hot and humid, but I’ve been observing hummingbirds way up here at eye level. So worth the heat!

    Dearest Dear Vanessa,
I loved reading about your tea party with Dear Miles so much! The colors of your photos are so wonderful and I always love getting to see your dishes. I’ve spent a lot of my summer preparing for one of my Teeny Teas as well. I posted the first part the other day on my blog and will post the second part in just a few days. Being a fellow lover of dishes, you may find the first part interesting! It’s taken me more time than usual to plan this year, as we’ve had quite a few extra-warm days, but I’m happy to say that it was all accomplished before I start planning for our Halloween festivities!
    xoxo,
    Betty
