Stevie…

I am an intense music fan, you?

I love all sorts of music, all sorts of sounds.

With two music makers in the house, there are lots of strings and keys talking all the time.

One thing…

I have always been a huge Stevie Nicks fan.

So many songs from Fleetwood Mac, to solo albums, have marked different points in my life…

(for you too, if you are a fan, I am certain)

Candle flower 3

From driving out here to the country house to visit Mister Lovee 11+ years ago…

Sara and Dreams blaring in my convertible, hair in the wind.

(Rumours is still the most incredible album ever)

To twirling to Stand Back like a wild woman, feeling crazy young and free.

Candle flower 2

And of course, lots of great moments with every song in between.

Don't forget Edge of Seventeen.

So many amazing tunes.

Stevie google images

Just such great moods and times evoked in so many songs.

Candle flower 1

I was just reading an article last month (can't remember where?), where Stevie talked about the hardships in her life in her 40's.  And how she felt like she missed them (her 40's).

I don't want to miss mine, too many friends talk about them as the best time of their lives.

You don't realize these things, until you read it, and you say wow?!

She talks about how she never goes anywhere alone.

Lives a cloistered life, wildly private.

Makes sense.

I thought it was interesting, how she let her driver's license expire in the 70's and never renewed it.

That voice has often been the background to my life events.

Thanks Stevie!!

Do you have any Stevie stories, or fave tunes?

Of course, Fleetwood Mac was unreal.

I also love Lindsey Buckingham's Big Love, you?

A friend recently gave me a cd of Stevie and Lindsey before Fleetwood Mac.

Lovin' it.

I can't wait to see her new documentary, In Your Dreams.

Stevie-Nicks in your dreams

If you live in California, "In Your Dreams" screens April 2 at the Embarcadero Center Cinema in S.F. and the Piedmont Theatre in Oakland (www.landmarktheatres.com).

There will actually be a nationwide screening on that April 2nd date.  I need to find out if it will happen anywhere near me too.

 Here's the trailer.

Anyhow, I have refound this tune below (in a mass hundreds of CD's organizing moment) and have been intertwined inside of it on repeat for about a month.  I had forgotten about it.

I get obsessive like that, when I refind something I love.

Oops, oven timer is ringing.

I am making those homemade twix bars for Mister Lovee.

See you sooooon!

Love, V

Sparkly heart

ps:  I think that big 80's hair should come back.  Honestly, it would be so fun!!

I never thought I would say that.

But, I'm serious.

Teasing and mass hairspray has been gone for way too long.

  1. Vanessa:
Stevie was so in the background of my life too.
I have some wild tales to tell you about Stevie and Fleetwood Mac and my visits to the Fleetwood Mac “Penguin Offices” in Hollywood.
My brother created a huge amount of art work for Fleetwood Mac and their then secretary, Judy Wong. I was sooo lucky that he took me along to his business meetings!
But, I can’t post the stuff here. Secrets are for email! 🙂

80’s big hair-that was during the days I was a hair stylist 🙂 and my daughter discovered hair spray and how to make her bangs stand up.
Music-I love. I’ve been with my hubby since I was 16 and I can still hear songs that make me think of when I firt met him. Leaving on a Jet Plane can still make me think of a day when we took him to the airport to return to the military. Songs make me think of my daughter, being a teenager, friends. Lots of memories tied to the music we listen to.
I love Stevie Nicks, Pat Benetar, so many others. Lots of good memories.
Funny thing is that I may not remember something that happened yesterday or why I went into the kitchen but certain songs can come on the radio and I can sing along and know every last word. 🙂

  3. deb says:

I was an 80’s child. Graduated highschool in ’85’ So much i miss about the 80’s but all i hear are people putting 80’s fashion down……I’m not saying the shoulder pads need to come back but so much of the 80’s was so much FUN…I mean leg warmers! wearing one glove, big hair……The 70’s and 80’s had the BEST music…alot of one hit wonders too but WHAT hits they were! Hugs!deb

  4. OMG, I wanted to be Stevie Nicks when I was a teen, Vanessa! Love her and Fleetwood Mac. A couple of months ago we went to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Moving to Ohio had to offer me something. : ) They had an area with several of her costumes from concerts and photo shoots. Absolutely amazing! Those beautiful outfits you would always see her in and even the shoes. Words can’t describe what it was like to be standing there looking at them ~ where you could almost touch them {but, of course, that’s not allowed}. They other stuff at the Hall of Fame was nice, too. : )

  5. Oh, I will never put down the 80s, and most people i knew LOVE the
80s. If anyone puts it down, Ill sick Matty on them ;))) hee heee
    😉
It was fun, it was costumey in the best way. I loved that I got to be
in it at least a little. The music is incredible, and it was an unreal
    time in my eyes.

  10. Renee,
What do I need to do to get that hair? Just let it dry natural, like it does all wavy, and then tease it up, upside down? And then spray it?
I think I would need longer thicker bangs too…
I am feeling the big hair.
    We need it back!

  11. Laura Tieri says:

I love Fleetwood Mac & Stevie Nicks. Brings back high school memories, the Rumours album.
I’ve always liked her clothes. I’ve seen them in concert a couple times.
When my mom was in home hospice she had a young nurse named Rhiannon. Her mom named her after the song.
I had big hair & wild clothes in the 80’s. I don’t know if I could do it again. I think I killed my hair with all the perms, teasing, gels, & sprays! It’s never been the same after all that.
I was dating a singer back then & the guitar player’s girlfriend was my hairdresser. We would all be backstage & she would be fluffing us all out. The guys would be primping before going on stage & we had to “look like we were with the band” so we were always with the hair & make-up. Looking back, we probably looked like a bunch of hookers with all the hair, make-up, leather mini skirts, & high heels. That was the “look” back then though. If the styles come back I’ll have to lose a few lbs., my skirts shrank a little bit through the years. :0) Must be all the humidity here. Right? :0)

  12. Laura, you are soooooo funny!!!!!!!!

  13. Eve says:

Stevie is amazing and always will be. I was a teen in the 80’s when I read an interview in which she said that she never lets any man (even her Dad) see her looking like an old shoe. I took that to heart. Keep that feminine mystique alive! I loved that she was so feminine and so strong at the same time. She also said that she gets every dress made one in black and one in white, you gotta love her.

  14. Carmen says:

I love Stevie Nicks, too! I especially love the rockin’ duet with Tom Petty – “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around.” You say it, girl! 🙂 The 80’s was my teen time. I loved it. I used to tease my bangs ala Dead Or Alive style. I probably wouldn’t do that again… I especially liked the fashions of the 80’s – bright colors (neon). It’s coming back just like the 70’s did.
Vanessa, from the few photos I’ve seen of you, I think you look like Stevie! 🙂

One of the few concerts I have gone to in my life was Fleetwood Mac. Unforgettable!
Gypsy is my theme song – just adore Stevie!
Someone on TV the other day said that no one looked good in the 80’s. 🙂

  18. I think once you leave an era/trend/etc.some people think it never
looked good. But I for one, loved the 80s. It was fun and wild
    😉

  19. Renee says:

Hair spray, mousse or gel, hot rollers. Hold your head over brushing out the curls, spray with hair spray all over, hold your head up shake your head and fluff. Spray again. That’s the way we used to do it. Or if you have a lot of natural wave or curl you might get a similar effect. Let me know if it works.
I never make fun of any era, we are all nostalgic for when we grew up. I was a child of the 60s with the mini skirts and boots, hip huggers and bell bottoms 🙂

  20. Ill try with my own waves 🙂
In 5th grade I used to have big bangs and those super hair sprayed wings
you know, wings by the tops of your ears. it was hawwwrible 🙂
But some full blown 80s Stevie or Heart hair would be fun!! If I put
hot rollers in my hair, my hair gets soooo curly, I wonder why? And not
curly in a good way 🙂
Okay, I am going to give it a go. FUN FUN!!

  21. Jill James says:

I’ve been on a You Tube binge of Fleetwood Mac for 2 hours! Landslide reminds me of my mom…..after I got back from Georgia after her funeral in 1996, I turned on the t.v. and there was Stevie Nicks singing Landslide. I still cannot hear that song without crying…..
The 1st album Buckingham Nicks is incredibly sophisticated for how young they were. Christine McVie sometimes doesn’t get credit for the fullness and smooth sound she gave the band. And Lindsey! He’s still hot in my book……he can flat play.
I graduated from high school in 1977 so Fleetwood Mac was a huge soundtrack to that part of my life……
You always surprise me Vanessa…….an old soul

  22. Dixie says:

Gypsy, Landslide, Leather and Lace…sigh. Now, that’s a blast from the past. Stevie could sure touch our soul.
    I still have big hair, don’t you…no ?

  23. sj says:

I love Stevie Nicks, and as you know she is from Arizona, but no longer lives here. I even like her new album and the new song Cheaper Than Free with Dave Stewart. Rumours one of the best albums of all time!

  24. Jennifer K says:

Always have loved Stevie!! Tonight on the OWN channel – Oprah Presents Master Class documentary on Stevie, I got it set to record!! Its on at 10pm out here…
So many Stevie memories, I was an 80’s girl too! Still am! Hope Matty is doing well!

  25. Jill, the thing I think is that Fleetwood Mac has never seemed from another
era. The songs are seamless into so many generations, probably what makes
it so legendary? Oh oh, I can not listen to Songbird by Christine McVie
without getting choked up. Landslide totally does me in too, so beautiful,
a fave for sure. Tori Amos does an incredible over of it. Song
    love…..

  26. I have always had big hair by default, and spent decades wearing it
straight. But all of a sudden, I am bonding with my wild waves (the last 5
years), and I am totally into it. The bigger the better ;))

Oh my gosh Vanessa!!! I adore Stevie Nicks!!!! I have always loved listening to her sing..I have a story to share.. When I was in Jr. High, I always loved to sing the song “Dreams” I told my self that one day, I would sing that song professionally. I had no idea at that time that I would years later be in a band and have that opportunity. Well my dream did come true!!!! This is me singing “Dreams” recently with my Band and so many years from when I actually dreamed to do so!!! http://youtu.be/nZC8z7JYxY8 I hope you enjoy hearing it as much as I enjoyed singing it! On another note, our Band has had and still has the privilege to open up for a Fleetwood Mac Tribute Band called The Chain. We have opened for them 2x already at the Hard Rock Cafe in Pittsburgh, Pa and will be again on June 22 this year!!! They are so incredible, you would swear if you closed your eyes that you were listening to Fleetwood Mac.
I simply can not wait to work with them again!!

  35. Jenny Mulvey says:

Yep, Stevie has always been my girl. Rooms on fire is from “The Other Side of the Mirror.” I think people forget how great that disc was or is. I love Alice off that disc, Stevie sings “just like Alice through the looking glass, she used to know who she was.” “Cry Wolf,” is another great song on that CD. Back in the 80’s We would all go to the Stevie concerts dressed in our lacey layers. I always cried when she sang “Beauty and The Beast,” from The Wild Heart. She would sing “there is no beauty without my beast,” and I would just lose it. Tears flowin’messin’ up my 80’s makeup. Thanks for bringing her new documentary to my attention. Can’t wait to see it!

  36. Jenny, I love that tale!! I love the CD too, so glad I found
it. I have al of them – I am sad cds are not cool anymore, haha!!
I have about 600 of them. Lovee has hogged the whole upstairs radio

I love, love, love Stevie Nicks (like eveybody here). I love her look, her music, her imagery, her writing. It was her music that really
moved me to feel comfortable in the magical world – because it is magical, isn’t it?
I was lucky enough to see her in concert twice, and I cannot wait until April 2. My birthday is April 1, so I plan on
seeing this documentary, if it plays around here, as a birthday treat to myself, though I know my husband will happily come along.
I will be turning 50 next Monday, and I am wearing
my thick, curly red hair longer than ever. Maybe it’s my version of a midlife crisis, but I’m happy with it.
    Have a happy day!

You have always reminded me of Stevie!!! And last month I had a very-stevie-week or so, where every afternoon Miss Baby and I listened to my favorites….Sara, especially, and Rhiannon…..while I worked on making dinner. My sister is a big time lover of her music (being from that generation more so than I) and introduced me to her music and Fleetwood Mac when I was in junior high school. ; )

  41. Chrissi says:

Little Miss V… You’ve always reminded me of a young Stevie! She’s been my idol since she began. and don’t even get me started on Lindsey back in the day, with the great hair!! Actually you and Mr. Lovee remind me of both of them!
Love you to the evers!! Glad that Matty is still on the mend!

  44. OMG! LOVE Fleetwood Mac! Rumors came out when I was 14. One of the best Summers of my life. That album was all over the radio and everyone’s record player. (Yes I said record player) ;). Just bought it again recently on I Tunes. Still awesome!!
Loved Stevie Nicks on her own too and Lindsey’s album too. Those were such great music years. The 80’s were amazing! Let’s all rock some big hair and shoulder pads!!!

  45. Chris says:

Stand Back is my favorite. I loved the video, too!

  46. Theresa says:

I ADORE Stevie Nicks! She is amazing and so beautiful. I wanted to BE her when I was a teenager. Alas, my hair would not cooperate. I would often try to sing like her. I drew many pictures of her when I was younger. I still have one favorite that is slightly yellowed but still in rather good shape. She is just so inspirational!

  47. Carl Vincent says:

Was just having a conversation with a friend the other day about how I consider Fleetwood Mac one of the best groups ever. There music has something indescribable (at least by me) that makes me come alive whenever I hear it. There is a timeless aspect to it as judged by how much I see young people still flock to it. Fun as a parent to be able to pass that on to one’s kid(s).
I’m 44 now and have to say that the 40’s have certainly been the best time of my life. My daughter is grown and speeding towards a September wedding. My wife and I worked hard to get out of debt over the last several years. We are happy at our jobs (most days) and feel like better friends and partners than we have ever been in our 24 years of marriage. It is a joyful time of finally feeling that I’m both comfortable with who I am and yet being totally willing to take a grand step in any adventurous direction if I feel called to do so. It really is wonderful.

  48. I have loved Stevie for as long as I can remember!!!
