Of Floribunda & Pencil

Spring is all around…

The Gene Boerner roses are in full bloom.

I’ve had 2 dozen spring gardens in my life, and yet every year the miracle of blossoms is uniquely amazing.

The wisteria in bloom is always like some other kind of magic. It has the power to transport you to another time as you stand amongst its beauty & scent.

My newer garden is coming along as well (below).

The wildflowers are, well, wild.

They will begin to open any day in the rounder.

These are the wildflowers I planted in December.

I think I’ve identified oodles of bachelor’s buttons.

There have been some California bluebells that have peeked out early & California poppies that somehow sprouted in the outskirts of the garden.

The tree in the center of the rounder self-seeded at the country house & I brought it here at just a few inches tall last year, & now it’s really reaching for the stars.

Late at night you will likely find me drawing in bed…

Miss Moon, if you recall her below, has decided that the secret garden is calling her name

And so I make mental notes as I’m in the garden, and bring them back to my paper & pencil at night.

Where flowers grow extra tall & winged creatures flutter about in sheer delight.

I think I should try a still life of the Gene Boerners, as they are quite beckoning me.

But for now it’s happy little midnight sketches.

And roses for the mantel.

I’m not sure about you, but floribunda roses will always steal my heart away.

The way they grow in clusters, like a dream.

I’m very busy in the garden, trying to extend the irrigation.

I trimmed trees early this morning & put together an arbor.

The sad news is that a raven found all the baby doves in the front & backyard nests & stole them right in front of me despite my best efforts. It was just horrible. But a female cardinal has decided to befriend me & even out the balance of nature’s harsh ways.

I paid her in pumpkin seeds & she took plenty of baths in my bird bath.

I am determined to find a really tall bird house, that birds can go inside of to be safe from creatures.

Do you have anything like that?

I hope you are well in your neck of the woods.

I am posting this from my phone as an experiment, but I think I prefer typing at my desk.

I shall return very soon.

All my best to you always♡

Vanessa

  1. Your roses are stunning! We have so much to replace after the tornado, so half of our garden will be ripped out because it was destroyed. Your posts truly are an inspiration to me, Vanessa! If you have any proven winners you’d like to share with me, I would appreciate it….

those roses are gorgeous! i’ve been in my little garden this week and channeled my inner vanessa at the garden center. haha! i came home with zinnias, snapdragons and ranunculas. i now have a cleared out spot that i’m hoping will be my veggie bed, which i’ve seeded with carrots and some sunflowers along the back that is hard to get to. i’m hoping to the another new spot open next week for all the seeds i bought of foxglove, delphinium, lupine, canterbury bells and hollyhocks. i’m really loving being out there.
    love, kisses & magical wishes…

I am so sorry on your encounter with the Raven and the dove chicks. A very traumatic event, I too had a similar situation with a Crow and baby bunny. People say let nature be, however when your in the midst of an attack it is a human instinct to help! There are outstanding birdhouses on Wayfair that you will absolutely love. They resemble your Victorian doll houses. Stay healthy and thank you for bringing us along your lovely world! Xoxo Rosalia
