Sparkly Happy Wishes!

Sparkly Happy Wishes for a wonderful New Year! Thank you over the moon for all the Somerset Studio love! Your support means so very much to me!! I have all kinds of ideas up my sleeve for us!  One having to do with a new friend that my mom has bestowed unto my little creature clan.  I have decided that this new creature will be a constant reminder to wish and dream to my hearts content.  A reminder to throw my wishes into the night sky (believing they will come true), and to encourage you to do the same…

Wish_creature

So, I have an idea.  Why don't we round up as many wishes as we can, wishes for loved ones, wishes for ourselves, wishes for the earth, wishes for change, wishes for love, wishes for kindness :)  Leave any wishes you desire in comments.  I will then take those wishes, and, well, the rest is a surprise that I will share with you picture by picture.  We are going to send them soaring… (feel free to leave your wishes in code if they are too personal)

Also, there is grand news in this wee humble palace.  There is a new king!  Yes a new king!!!  His name is yet a mystery.  Did he share it with you?  Please tell me if he did.  If you guess his long fairytale-like name, I will send you a parcel that will tickle you pink!!!  Here he is, after a long voyage to us…  King Rabbit is what we are calling him for now…  (he is in love with Xenia Schmidt it seemes :)  She created that amazing little piece on the dark wood to the far right- with the clock piece in her hair)

In other news.  I did bring home some fun treasures from my visit to my family over the holidays.  I brought home treasures that were not even intended to be gifted.  You see, I have made a grand discovery.  While everyone in my family pokes fun at my grandfather's treasure hunting (junk as they call it),  I find it scrumptiously fascinating!!!  And, because my fascination exudes in an overboil of squeals, my grandfather gifted me 3 fantastic treasures.

The first, a Scale.  Not just an ordinary scale, a scale from one of the Arizona mines.  And, wait, it is for weighing, none other than, you got it, jewels and glitter!!!  Oh, thank you Grandpa!  That earned him one huge hug and a squeal!

Scale

The conversation that earned me the scale went like this.  I look down, see it by the giant brick fireplace.

Grandmas_fireplace

I then exclaim, "WHAT IS THAT!"  "WHAT IS THAT!"  Grandpa (Pedro)  goes, "why it is a scale from the mines, you like that?"  I go "Yes Yes YES!"  he says, "it's yours, take it, Oh, and you know, I have to tell you about this typewriter…"

You promptly see my brain registering, typewriter?  Now, I must confess, I do have a fabulous old Underwood typewriter, but it is nothing like this Underwood.  My greed must have gotten the best of me.  And, when my grandfather disappeared to go up to his warehouse treasure trove of goodies (not junk) and came back with it, I was more than touched. You see, it was the typwriter he used to use to type invoices and such on, back in the day, in his business.  It is now set up in my new office.  And, the wash basin Mr. Lovee brought me a few weeks ago, serves as a perfect desk 🙂

Blog posts will resume from here in 2008.  🙂

Can you handle one more trash treasure?  Well, my grandmother says as I am leaving.  "Your grandpa found this birdcage, and he is going to throw it away if noone takes it."  Can you hear the record scratching and me looking dumbfounded.  Whipping around to look at her, ponytail flailing in the air, "Did you say, b-b-birdcage??????"  Mind you, noone else in the entire family even realizes that I am having the greatest treasure moments in life.  Noone even budges or cares.  They all look at me like I am insane and resume their Christmas gift exchanges and noshing.

So, here it is.  A wood, hand-made birdcage. All for me, from someone else's trash.  You see, I never ask for gifts.  I never care. All I want is someone over the age of 75 to tell me I can choose anything I want from their junk pile!!!  Oh ya!!

Birdcage_from_grandpa

Of course, the creatures wanted a picnic in it right away. Convincing me by telling me how they had never ever had a picnic in a birdcage…

Fairytales_in_the_birdcage

It has occured to me that I didn't share how the holidays went down in my world.  It was so much fun.  I am convinced my mother is a fairy.  I even asked her, "Mom are you hiding something from me, are you a fairy?"  She laughed.  She did not say no though.  So, That leaves the idea wide open.  There are more fairies in her and dad's house than I can count.  She put up her enormous village, she baked until she could bake no more… She put up 3 trees.  One huge red, one gorgeous brown and olivine, the third, her magic fairy tree (my favorite)… She made us the finest dinner…  Mom you are a Queen!  A Magical Fairy Queen!!

My gift of a Morning Glori Vine creation to my brother, worked out beautifully.  Brothers are tough ya know?

I gave my dad a vase that I made.  Kind of girly, but he liked it.  He got other dad stuff too.  And my mom got all kinds of jewelry pieces from me and more.  Oh and my sis loved her magic Jelly treats!  It was a good time.

My grandmother cooked on her wood burning stove as always. (mom's parents)

Grandma_and_grandpas_stove

And you were sure to find beans in a cast iron pan, and tamales, gracing the stove.  Warm Mexican breads toasted inside, buttered and melty…  Dad making sure the fire stayed warm in the stove…

Inside_grannys_stove

My grandparents giant brick fireplace roared.  Mom made a fancy Christmas eve dinner.  And, Santa did in fact visit us while we slept.  All of the leaves fell off of my parents trees.  They floated so beautifully in the pool.  My sis and I attempted to rake some up.  WE did not do a good job.  We ended up playing and hanging from trees instead.  There is too much to tell, as I am sure your holidays are packed with tales of insanity or simple peace.  Plates full.  Below is a menagerie of photos of Christmas 2008.  I took a total of 1200 photos.  It was impossible to choose…

Oh, my crafty Aunt Denise made me the most amazing birthday cake that was waiting for me at my parents!  She made a mock cake.  She used a styrofoam ring and glued chocolates to the outside, then filled the center with chocolates! Very wonderful and crafty!  I am sooo glad I took a photo…

So there you have it!  It is over, even New Year's bashes are over.  Wow, it is all so surreal and strange, this time of year.

Don't forget to add your wishes for that super fun secret of soaring I have planned…  And help me name the King Rabbit.  I have officially bored you blue so I am outta here for now.

Next blog post brings a huge shop update!  A few days away ;)  See you soooooon!!!

ps: I forgot to tell you about the girls staying late at grandma's huddled near the wood burning stove around a big rectangular table.  Chatting.  4th cousins I did not even know, appearing with ghost stories that made me get goosebumps.  And other true crrrreeeepy mysteries about our town.  Oh, I will tell you more soon…

I LOVE it!!!Sweet Dreams!!! zzzzZZZZZZ

  9. Dave says:

WHEE 🙂 I will think up a list of wishes and post them tomorrow… what a wonderful idea.
I think the rabbit should be something like “Charles Edward Bennington”, or “Edgar James Barton”, something that sounds like it could come from Pride and Prejudice or Jane Eyre.
I have to admit to having typewriter envy. I’m on an ongoing search for a gorgeous old typewriter, and I have yet to find it. I’m glad that you have this one, as I know it will feel loved. You could name it something like William or Bernard (pronounced the British way) or Mumford 🙂
I’ll be back with wishes soon 🙂

  10. It is just like magic to come here and peek at your world. Wishes…I have many, some small, some large. Oh to be so creative and overflowing with imagination!
As for the rabbit. Abuelo Pedrocito? Pasquale? El Rey de los magicos conejitos?!
    Happy New Year Vanessa!

  11. It makes me really happy to see you had a lovely Christmas- and the treasures are to die for- I can’t believe your grandpa would even contemplate throwing that beautiful bird cage out!
Wishes… I have so many but they are very difficult to articulate… my main focus this year for our family is our wedding, so I wish for a smooth-running, happy day!
As for the rabbit, I like ‘King Rabbit’- my imagination doesn’t stretch to the kind of names I know you’d appreciate!

  12. Paris Parfait says:

Hola Preciosa! So glad your Christmas and New Year’s celebrations were filled with such a bounty of delights! What magnificent treasures from your grandfather! I would have been swooning over them too. As for Lancelot Lapin, I’m sure he has a plethora of secret names, one for every country he’s visited during his extensive world travels. As for the wishes, two very important things for the new year: good health and a more peaceful world. We all need both! Of course it wouldn’t hurt to have some love, light and magic thrown into the mix. Love to you, dear Vanessa. I can’t wait to see your latest creations! xoxox

  13. Delphine says:

    Happy new year, “Bonne année”!

  14. Martha says:

What a fun post! The Rabbit was trying to tell me his name, but he whispered it, so I may not have it right…I think he said his name was Edward Paisley Moonshadow Tulane. (Did you ever read the Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane?)
    :o)

  15. Marjorie says:

Oh My!! This post is like very rich, dark chocolate torte!! 🙂 I have ‘so’ much to say, I just know I shan’t be able to remember it all as I type!! ; )
First…I just have to say that I,too, have never ever had a picnic in a birdcage….but now that you mention it, I think I shall very soon! 🙂
With that out of the way, I can say my wishes:
I wish to have a garden covered old house like Tasha Tudor far away from the busy world where I can wander about in 1850’s gowns and feed chickens and tip toe barefoot through the bluebells!!
I wish that everyone would start wearing hats again….and bonnets….and carry parasols and….(yes….such a silly wish)! 😉
    I wish for snow.
But as much as I wish….I am still ever so happy with my current lot in life….it’s hard not to feel thankful already! 🙂
And Wherever did you meet that darling Mr. Rabbit!?? He is whispering to me that his name is Captain Mortimer Sassafras Fuzzywiggins the III (he comes from a long line of seafaring hares) and hopes one day to settle in a darling sea side cottage with much thatch and the melancholy sound of the channel markers ding donging away in the foggy distance! 🙂
    Well, then…..I ‘think’ I said everything….but I’m sure I’ve forgotten something! 😉
    Happy 2008, Sweet Vanessa!

  16. Bronwyn says:

    Er…happy belated birthday, VV? 🙂
    King Rabbit’s name: Alphonsus III.
My current wish is for a new stove.

  17. Pam Aries says:

WHoaaa…ho! You glittery gal! I can always count on you for a smile1 What an amazing post today! I savored each and every moment! I can feel the warmth! You are such a sparkly sprite! Kisses and hugs!

  18. Janet says:

I wish for more wonderful, beautiful creations from you! I can’t get enough. And maybe a new career for my hubby, while you’re at it.
Your grandpa must be the most fascinating person in the world! Those are great treasures he gave you. And I love that wood-burning stove. I always think they seem so much more homey and welcoming than the ones we all use today.
And because I’m so late getting here, huge congratulations on the magazine spread! I’m getting out today so will look for it. You are the best!!!!

  19. Randi says:

My wish will be…that peace on earth will come because of blog relationships around the world!

  25. Les says:

Hi dear Vanessa! Happy new year!! And many congratulations on your article in Somerset Studio! I’m going to take a look after posting this comment, sounds amazing!
Wishes… hmm let me think about that. I have to many wishes to write down here! Of course I have the the most well known wishes of wellness and happiness to everyone! My greatest wish is that every ones greatest wish will come out this year!
(This makes me remember about when I was younger and I had to make a wish if I blew out all the candles on my birthday cake, and I always wished world peace and happiness, and after that I wished something little for myself and that always made me feel bad and egocentric somehow…) So to keep tradition… I have one wish for myself, I feel already ashamed… but that I will be offered a job at the movies… I really hope that…..
And those gifts are so amazing. I love it that you love them so much even though your family think its trash. I think those are very magical objects and it’s great your grandfather loves to collect little treasure like that! Really great! That birdcage is amazing!
As for the name for the rabbit… hmmm … You already picked a name? I think he is not King yet, he is too cute and too adventurous to be a king. He is more like a little prince, le petit prince. So I call him Prince Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, after the creator of le petit price because I think he’s magnificent.
Well dear Vanessa, hope you will have a beautiful year with lots and lots of happiness and inspiration!!
    xxxx Les

    Fun as always here.
    XO-D.
PS- My wish is for my friend Betsy to smile at her girls again. Thanks V.

  39. Darling girl…this post was ripe with magic and excitement and a feast for the eyes. I was swooning and awing over the treasures for your Grandfather…trust me, I would have squealed too….OH that birdcage!!!!!!! Your Mom does seem like a Fairy Queen, the splendor of sights and smells in her home must have been purely divine! I love the whimsical twin beds with the crown-topped canopy too!
Ah now for King Rabbit…..Monsieur Le Roi Lapin I believe divulged his long, but so regal name to me as: Count-Palatine Kingrabbit the Sonorous of Waterless St Mildred. (Sonorous meaning a rich and full sound so he must have a lovely voice).
I could comment on and on…..Happy New Year my wonderful friend. although I am glad to see that year end there were good things among it as well……one highlight is YOU!
Sending love, joy, peace and magic to you
    XOXOXO
Oh and my wish is for all human beings to have more joyous and peaceful hearts – so full that greed, hatred, conflict is all but a bad memory.

Wishes for the New Year? Mmmmmmmmm
To be successful with sales when I get round to opening my Etsy shop, for all those I love to be happy and healthy and well.. (cheesy as ever) but love, peace and twinkles to everyone everywhere.

Happy New Year to you Misstwistypops.
My wish is to make friends with Time rather than continually fighting him…he must be a nice old fella and we need to be buddies rather than continually armwrestling for extra hours.
Is King Rabbit sometimes called Rufus Dexter RowanWright? (king and keeper of those magical trees that offer protection against malevolent thingums) he signs his name R.D RowanWright and his female admirers call him Ruffy.

  45. Love your new office!
I wish for a world of happy people who are all appreciated and loved and no one is mean to anyone.
Choose some good name, somehow, for I cannot possibly guess it.

Hola! Vanessa, Your Mother is a Fairy Queen. Beautiful decorations, I see were u get it from. You are very blessed. Can’t wait for more of your stories.

  47. Sharon says:

I love reading your blog! It’s so inspiring!
There are so many things I wish for and of course there are all of the usual ones such as good health and love for me and all of my family. But this next year my special wish for myself is to learn to read music and play a musical instrument. What that instrument is, I do not know, but hopefully it will reveal itself in due time.

  48. Dave says:

Ooh, to build off of Marjorie’s story… I bet that he (the rabbit), as a boy, lived in a small seaside town, and was deeply in love with a lovely hare-ess, who had stunning brown eyes and slender ears, and they would sit and listen to the clang of the channel markers and breathe in the salty air. However, his parents thought it would be best for him to become a sailor and go with his uncle Mortimer, who was a sea captain. Wanting to forget his young love and inescapable fate, he plunged head-first into sailing, and became the best there ever was. However, he never lost the longing in his heart for a small seaside town, a small cottage, and the melancholy clanging of the channel markers in the distance.
    Ok… wishes. Let’s see…
probably my primary wish is for both Trina and I to have more time to create and experiment and grow in our expression of ourselves. right up there on the same level is the wish that in all my interactions with people, they would genuinely feel respect, love and care, as much as I can consistently give being an imperfect human. I wish for plans of a coffee shop becoming more solid, and I also wish for time to be with a dear friend in Japan. I wish for people who have been cut deep to have healing (I can think of several specific examples), and I wish that Trina would feel loved and secure in our relationship more than ever, that she would feel free to be exactly who she is, and that I could encourage her to do and be exactly what she needs. Those all would make me happy beyond words.

  49. sadira says:

My heavens…what a delightful holiday in retrospect post indeed!
I wish…well, I wish that I continue on the journey that I am on. That I still receive the help and joy and love that I have been so graciously gifted at every turn, even when I have wondered how much more I was going to have to jump, and if I could possibly do it. I also wish for more time for adventures, and the piece of mind to enjoy the moments…and I wish for everyone else’s wishes to come true.
As for the rabbit…I see him announced and heralded by the trumpets (those really great long ones with the family rabbit crest on them?) as His Grace the Eminent Pumpernickel Glitterhop of the LongEars Glitterhops of Deep Water Meadows…(pumper-hop for short)
I am so excited about your new treasures as well…it would be a dream indeed to waltz into some people’s homes and find the treasures you couldn’t live without…I’d of course, settle for their garages as well…

  50. Marilyn says:

Where oh where do I begin? How can you still have room to keep all of your treasure troves? You have such great finds.
How is this for a name for King Rabbit: King Flopster McBouncy. 🙂
I have so many wishes for the new year that vary so much. Wishes of adults saying “please” and “thank you” and holding doors open for others to my baby nieces being healthy and happy while I keep my sanity in the middle.
It looks like you had a wonderful trip and I am so happy to have read about it. 🙂

  51. Happy New Year to Vanessa and all her readers! This really made me smile, “All I want is someone over the age of 75 to tell me I can choose anything I want from their junk pile!!!”
Wishes…for everyone to really let their creativity loose in 2008, which will create lots of joy and laughter!

  52. Kris says:

I’m loving all your crisp clear pictures (especially the picnic in the cage). The candy cake looks beautiful! I might like to make something like that for a friend. Ohhh to have a grandfather like yours, kindred spirit and all. I love the old things. Especially that birdcage. There is a wonderful article in an older Antiques mag on vintage typewriters. Holler if you would like me to send it to you. Thanks for sharing your life. You inspire me.

  53. Jill says:

It sounds like an enchanting Christmas and the pictures make it look so wonderful! You are a lucky girl!!! The birdcage is fabulous but then so is the scale LOL Glad you had such a merry time.
    Jill

  54. You are absolutely incredible Vanessa.
    I LOVE coming here.
A wish – well, it must be that my India travel comes true as a success.

  55. lisa! says:

hello there vv! my grandfather poppy was a collector too. but he called his finds “keen stuff.” i have some of his keen stuff like his and my grandma mimi’s jewelry making supplies (hint hint!)

  56. Mo'a says:

How wonderful it is to see all your photos and to hear about your great holiday celebrations.
OK!!!!! I am officially jealous…what I would give for that birdcage…send the party revelers as well. *smile*
Your Mother is amazing and I agree she must be
a fairy or at least have a lot of elves in her service…her home and decorations are out of this world…I see that the fruit did not fall far from the tree 🙂
As for the King Rabbit and his long fairytale-like name…he whispered to me that his nickname is Harvey…as in the famous film of yore…Oh!!!I forget you are too young to remember it…here is where google come in handy.
My vish for the New Year is good health, happiness and good friends…wait, wait I have that already so let’s wish that for everyone and we must add peace and understanding.

  57. Gillian says:

Oh my goodness Vanessa I have missed reading your blog and I have missed so much that has been going on in your life!!! Your birthday, your new wee colourful guests and all their little parties, your friends operation- I truly hope she is recovering well – you magazine feature – wow it looked so incredible!! and so so much more but I am all caught up now. it looks like you had the most wonderful christmas and it has really warmed my heart to visit and catch up on all these posts.
I have one little set of wishes for myself if that would be ok – I just want to LIVE more! to truly make the most of every moment as much of the time life seems to pass me by a little – and it is only up to me to change this – but I just hope to have the confidence to do it – love more, live more and do more! Free my soul up a little if you know what I mean!
I wish you all the joy in the world for this coming year Vanessa! xxx

  58. Jackie says:

wishes — Wishing this year will be full of happiness, joy, health and good things for my family, friends … and myself 😛
The first nine months of 2007 were a bit rough .. hoping this year will be better. Much love JR

  59. Nancy says:

I am so happy you had such a wonderful Christmas my dear friend! Your Mom appears to be as multi-talented as you, what an amazing and fun family you come from!
Your found treasure gifts from your Grandpa are so special! I LOVE your birdcage! I hope your forest creatures have many a happy picnic high above the forest floor swaying gently as they sip shroom-nog!
King Rabbit….I fear to me his moniker is not quite as grand as others have suggested. He may have been pulling my leg, but in my ear he whispered to me his name….Mr. Bilbo. He is not a regal bunny, he wears not the finery of the royal court, but he is instead a happy-go-lucky fellow who is not immune to carrying off a practical joke or two….especially after imbibing in the shroom-nog with the other forest creatures! 😉
My wishes are the same as most others…..I wish for good health and prosperity for my family and friends, with good health being the most important. I wish for lots and lots of fun and happiness in the new year. And I wish for the safe return of every single one of our troops serving their Country.
OH! And I wish I could build a fire in my fireplace that is as marvelous as your Grandpa’s! Mine NEVER look like that!
PS. I love your gift tag with the hand painted likenesses of you and Mr. Lovee….how adorable!

  60. Wende says:

Oh sure, I take a week off and you go and get published. 😀
Congrats darling, you certainly deserve it. Oh… and that box of chocolate has my name on it. How did you get it? Hee.

  61. Chantal says:

I love how new fantastic creatures and captivating objects keep wanting to move into your palace of marvels!!! How do you find the space for all those treasures, I wonder…
Hey, I left a little something for you on my blog. Bonne année !

  62. Lisa says:

Your blog is so magical. I love to visit. Always something new and different and colorful and enchanted. Great pictures.
    Happy New Year!

  63. Natalie says:

Such a huge undertaking, gathering-up wishes. I admire your daring and I know you will handle them with care. I am always wishing for peace and healing, for kindness to wash over every soul, and then there is the big wish, the one I guard and shelter, and to exercise my own daring, to honor the esteem I hold you in, I will share it: I wish for a home of our own, with a garden and room for the 6 of us to spread our creative wings, and a little more room to receive friends and family. It does not have to be perfect. We can make it perfect for us. As for that dapper fellow, could he be El Rey Conejo de Caramelo? He looks sweet enough. Vanessa thank you; I enjoy these excursions and diversions. And I am so happy for all the treasures you brought home… you know well how to receive.

  64. Wow! You guys make Martha Stewart look like a slacker! Congrats on the Sommerset studio article!! The stores here have yet to get it in but I’ll snag one when I see it 🙂 Hope you had a nice New Year!(I’m jealous about the typewriter and birdcage..)
ta ta..off to catch up on emails and everything I missed while the computer was in the shop:)
    XO,
    Christine

  65. Wow, Happy New Year to you!
What amazing gifts; balance, truth and freedom.
    You lucky gal!

  66. trina says:

coveting your clock haired girl, your scale, your typewriter, your grandpa, your grandmother’s stove…. 🙂 But am glad someone like you has all those things cause you will love and appreciate them.
and your little moon faced angel and bunny kind are wonderful. I have been trying to think of a good name but marjorie’s name and story were so good, and then dave’s addition to the story clinched it for me. I like Captain Mortimer Sassafras Fuzzywiggins the III. And his love would be wonderfully similar to Anne and Captain Wentworth. 🙂
    so on to my wishes…
I wish for sudden ease and speed of keeping my house clean.
I wish for more time and success in making crafts and selling them.
i wish for snow every winter where ever i live.
i wish for mild, not to hot summers
i wish for my littlest cat to stop hissing and growling at guests
i wish for dave and i to continue falling in love all the days of our life
i wish for money and time to travel; to japan and europe
i too wish for our coffee shop plans to begin to take solid form and for things to begin working out and showing us this is the correct course for our lives
i wish for magically, kindred, simple, calm relationships to find their way into our life and for the time and heart to foster and help them grow.
i wish for some sparkles, some glittering, some twinkling, and some other fairy magic in every day
yeah, i think that’s all. for now anyway. 🙂

  67. Cherie says:

Hey special lady, I’ve left a surprise for you at Esprit today (January 3rd)…come check it out!!

  69. Lauren says:

1200 photos, huh? Is that ALL?!
Surrounded by a Fairy Queen, glitzy candy-cakes, three spectacular trees, oodles of yum-yums and G-pa-Keeper-of-the-Cave-of-Wonders….I imagine you have nearly BROKEN your camera with all the use! My, oh my! Extraordinary photos – thanks for sharing!
King Archibold von Whittles. AKA King Whit.
Thank you for offering to guard our wishes…mine being simple.
    *to love more unabashidly
*to recognize when I am being loved
*to rediscover life thru the eyes of my young children and be in awe and wonderment of that which is good and surrounds us
*to forge ahead in business fearlessly yet not furociously
*to gain more understanding in all areas that still leave me guessing
***and my heart-wishes will remain deep within me, breathing on their own so that I may one day have the faith and courage to release them into the outside world***
    Thank you again, Vanessa!
    Blessings to you and yours.

    xo Best to you- Eileen

  73. carolyn says:

Wishes er let me think …. well I could wish for world peace and then again I could wish to win the lottery but as I don’t buy a ticket…. Isn’t it strange when confronted with a wish what do you wish for because remember, “Be careful what you wish for because it may come true” which of course wouldn’t be a bad thing in the case of world peace.
    Happy New Year Vanessa

  74. chris says:

LOVE this BLOG!! SO happy I found it! Your post is lovely & all those treasures from your grandpa made my eyes water! NOt only are they the BEST treasures they were given to you with love! warmest blessings for health & happiness in 2008~:) chris

  75. DENISE says:

First of all, Congratulations on your article. That is so great.
Next, Your holiday looked like the best i have ever seen.
I have many wishes for the new year. The most important is that I wish that my “mr. lovee” gets to feeling better and that he gets all the things he deserves.

  76. VelvetBrick says:

Oh my dear Vanessa! Best of the universe is wished to you and your world! As for your little bun-bun… hmmm…. perhaps…

  77. Leslie M says:

    Vanessa,
No one is/has more fun than you. I am delighted with each and every post I read here. So glad that you were able to benefit from your grandfather’s packrattishness. And I am sure he is happy too.
My wish for the new year?
Easy. My wish is completely selfish . . . well, maybe not totally. I wish for my son’s sobriety and peace of mind. (I thought I was wishing for his peace of mind, but then I realized that I was wishing for mine too.)
I can’t wait to see what you do.

  78. Betzie says:

Oh my, my brain is on overload here. Just too many wonderful photos and stories to take in all in one visit. Will have to come back again I guess!
As for wishes, I wish my mom and dad could live forever and ever with me on this earth…but if that can’t be granted, I wish that they can live forever together in a true heaven of love and happiness.
As for your bunny’s magical mystery name…I’d suggest something strong, but not too hard to pronounce. Definitely NOT Rumpelstilskin! I kind of like KING HAREY OF LOCHINVAR. Although some might confuse Harey with Harry, God forbid! So maybe not…
I sure did love your dancing girls!!!! Just wonderful…darn, I missed that Somerset issue!
    Have fun!

  79. Joy says:

I could get lost in your world…
    and love it!

  80. Oh, I just love coming over here! It is like a little vacation! So many pretties. I love to get treasure from folks who have seen more of life than I(wasn’t that diplomatic?). I have so many more of my grandmother’s things than my cousins because of that and I used to feel guilty but then I decided it was better that they lived with someone who appreciated them! And now for wishes, I have been thinking about this all day. So, my wishes:
Hubby loves his new job and is wonderously successful at it
My kids make fabulous new friends
We all go home to Utah to visit this summer
    And everyone stay very healthy
Thanks so much, can hardly wait to see what you do with this!

  81. Colette says:

  84. kate says:

Oooh, I want to get in on the fun. Personally I think Mr Rabbit looks like a Sir Archibald Rabbitin. As for a wish… that maybe this year the colour and sparkle will win out over the crushing darkness in my life and in others’ lives.
Your Christmas sounded like such fun, I loved reading this entry and looking at all the treasures. A birdcage is the perfect place for a picnic, and oh my goodness, your grandmother’s wood stove! I’m in love. hehe

  85. Sonya says:

You deserve every treasure that falls in your lap! I love your birdcage and especially the picnic that ensued. Christmas looks like it was so much fun, thanks for the photos and commentary and thanks in general for sharing – you are a generous one! Happy New Year!

  86. Holy moley! So much beauty and amazingness! I love all your little creatures – Mr. Rabbit and little moon-gnome and all those sweet little girls in th Christmas diorama – did you make those???? I recognize the gorgeous Du-buh-duh sisters, but I must know about the ladies with mohair hair next to the tree…they are so lovely!!! And that woodstove, my god – my dad used to have a lovely old woodstove, but your grandmother’s is exceptional, the kind I dream of having some day! Thanks for sharing all your Christmas beauty…you are a whirlwind of glitter and colour and joy, as always!

  87. Cre8Tiva says:

my wish is to caried away with wild abandon in mounds and mounds of creativity…and to own one of your original paper skirt dancing girls of course…and world peace…i guess his faiytale name is sir percival bunnywart of fairieshroom hutch…or is it prince bunny hugs charmster…or my favorite buny name – buns…blessings, rebecca

  89. Casey says:

I’m more than a bit late replying to this post… this week has been super-duper busy for me!! But oh my Vanessa!!! Those treasures you got from your grandfather are lovely!! Each and every one is so special (and even more so because of who they came from)! I especially love the birdcage and that your wee friends have already laid claim to it as the perfect party space! hehe! I’ve been dying to *make* a birdcage… I have an old, 1920s magazine with instructions on crafting one from reeds and such. (And I have a drawer full of basket-weaving supplies I picked up a few years ago for a song at a rummage sale!) I should dig that up and scan it to share!
Oh, and I have to tell you I picked up the issue of Somerset that you’re in!! I had to check a few different stores, but finally I spotted the cover and snatched it up with a loud squeal!! 😀
Wishes… oh I have so many!! hehe! (And what a gorgeous little creature to remind you to always believe your wishes *will* come true!) My biggest wish is that this year will be full of love and joy and light for all my family and friends and myself. Simply that… that is all I wish. 🙂
Wishing you a lovely weekend, full of creativity and much fun!! 🙂

  90. oh my gosh…I’m like comment #92 or something! I want to read everyone’s wishes but am rushing off…
Only wonderful you would have some sparkly secret about sending all our wishes up into the sky…I adore you!!!
Ok…if I could throw this little wish in the hat. I wish for a happy, healthy, art filled 2008 for all of my friends and family. AND I wish for my family and I to find the perfect little home when we move this summer.
    Thank you Vanessa!! xoxoxo…jenn
