Sometimes, Life is for…

Sometimes, life is simply meant to be enjoyed.  Burning "to do" lists.  Burying stress and anxiety.  As Dad says, sometimes I'd like to take a vacation from my brain…

Living 12

What better place to do this, than the gypsy garden.   I had a bright idea to move a very old bath tub and its crude plumbing, from the back yard to the gypsy garden, in the front yard.  Alone.  Through sheer determination and planning, I accomplished my goal…

And now, by golly, I am going to enjoy the heck out of it…  I didn't get a bruised sore body for nuthin'.

So, where was I.  Oh yes, sometimes, life is for living.  For enjoying living.  For giving ourselves a little break…

Sometimes, life is for the simple randomness of listening to a radio station.  Instead of playing cd's and Ipods…

Living 11

Sometimes, life is for, watching the bath drain…

Living 16

For watching paint peel…

Living 17

For enjoying the shadow dances of branches…

Living 19

For watching the clouds, go by…

For nibbling on that delicious Paula Deen Tomato Pie Chris from Prism Trail suggested.  (I used my own crust recipe – the one I gave you for the quiche.  Bake the crust the same way as you would for a quiche, but fill it with the tomtato stuff, instead of quiche filling, and bake it like Paula Deen says ;)

Today, is a lovely day for dozing in the garden with your pooch. (this pooch by the way, is still recovering from her impromptu birthday that you all made soooo awesome!! Thank you beyond oodles!!)

Living 20

All life events, including blogging, shall resume from the Gyspy Garden.  So long as the weather holds up (doesn't look like rain will visit us ever again), and the weather is holding at the upper 70's to low 80's.  I have to go work on my bath tub plumbing, and do some little repairs to the ball and claws…

Oh and, don't worry, living outside still has all necessary amenities - for visitors, there has always been an outhouse here ;)  Although, I haven't painted it for 9 years.  But, I like the distressed paint…

My friend came over last night with dinner.  We had a lovely chiminea fire, and lots of twinkling lights.  But I think my Annie Oakleyness freaked her out a little.  She said "umm, my friend, you are channeling Renee Zellweger in Cold Mountain."  HAHA!!  Isn't that funny?  But, I can't take credit for being that tough.

Eeks, I think it must be the hair and clothes…  yes that must be it ;) (Zellweger photo borrowed from, reporter.blogs.com)

Anyhow, here is where you can find me.  Send me a smoke signal or somethin' 😉

  1. Okay, I have to say I am so envious of your Fairy Garden! I want one too!! (Do you think the neighbors who’s balcony overlooks mine would mind??!) Beautiful stuff — which is why I was popping by today – to write a quick note to let you know I’ve declared “Your Blog is Fab” and given you an award!
Come check it out at http://antiquesdiva.blogspot.com/2009/02/your-blog-is-fabulous-award.html

  2. Barbara says:

    You amaze me!
    The outdoor tub is divine!!!
Ad’s I would not like to see but I’m seeing them on more and more blogs. I just try to ignore them. They don’t keep me from visiting but I think for me they would take away from the sweetness of your place.

  3. That is just brilliant, the tub. Reminds me a bit of Out of Africa.
Seriously want to come visit you some day….. the beauty is just beyond any museum I’ve ever seen.

  4. Laura says:

Well, of course you have a Gypsy Garden! And how lovely to be able to enjoy a nice soak in the warm outdoors surrounded by an adorable doggie! Enjoy the sun!

  5. Kelly says:

Ohhh….it all sounds so heavenly. I wish I were having you warm weather. We are supposed to have rain mixed with snow tonight~
Well enjoy your eden my dear, I am off to look for my own little bit of paradie!

  6. The way you do “Fary Garden” & Bathtub is so inspiring…thank fully hubby gave me a reality check.
“It’s cold enough to freeze your nubs off” he said, and he’s right so maybe I should wait until Summer and scare the neighbours in July 😉
Thank you for showing us your little slice of heaven
    Nic xx

  7. Every summer in southern Utah we had to bathe like that. It was so fun!!!

  8. Karen Young says:

My Dear Vanessa, you do not need to have giveaways to thank us. Just being able to share in your wonderful fanciful adventures is a gift. You make so many people happy when your take them away to magical places. Visiting you always makes me smile and enriches my soul.
    Hugs Karen

  9. Pattie W says:

    Hello Little Miss
Like you we seem to be having a delightful end of Winter 🙂 SO we have moved back out to the court yard until the rains come in July. LW will hook the shower up tomorrow. Alas since we do live right smack dab in the center of town there is no outhouse but it really is only steps away from the court yard 🙂
There truly is not another girl in the world as happy as I am!! To finally live the life she dreamed about and work so hard to make it come true 🙂
    Pattie 😉

PS Oh I nearly forgot, remember this is your blog Missy and you don’t need our approval to do what you want or need to do with it. As long as you get to call the shots a few tasteful adds to earn pin money is a fine idea By Jeebers!Cuz Missy no body in all of Bloglandia can throw a party like you!! 🙂

  10. Jamie says:

What a lovely day you seem to be having…soaking in the sun in that lovely tub! Your giveaways are always so nice…I say ad it up…it’s your blog, hehe. Congrats to the Amazon winner & have a great weekend!
    Jamie 🙂

  12. mere says:

Your photography is stunning! Are you a professional or just incredibly good?

  13. Cori. G says:

    Greetings O Fanciful One!
Ah, the Gypsy Garden…that was where I first found you and was enchanted beyond anything I had seen. Now the tub has taken up residence there too. What a dreamy afternoon you must have had beneath the shade of the tree limbs and the warm winter air and a puppy to lick your toes… true bliss.
We’ve been experiencing 84 degree weather here in our lovely hamlet of Anasleim (oops! I meant Anaheim), but I long for the cool. Maybe if I had my own tub to soak in I would relish the heat. but alas, my own garden was been taken over by weeds…very nasty ones indeed.
Do you need help wallpapering the inside of your outhouse? I’d love to help!
Oh, by the way, my lovely little siren arrived all snug in her package with a few extra treats. Thank you soooo much! I just adore all that you do!!
Now get out of that tub your turning into a prune :0!
    P.S.
Didn’t you just love Renee Zellweger in Cold Mountain? That was such a great film!

  14. Alison Gibbs says:

Oh what a wonderful post. We all want to come to Gypsy Garden – sounds like heaven
    Alison

  15. Chrisy says:

Your posts always take me away from life for a little fantasy time and this one is no exception. Love your father’s saying about needing a vacation from his brain…can relate…

  16. Carolyn says:

Ohhhh how fun is that. Your Gypsy Garden is BEAUTIFUL!! And Baby looks like she’s just loving every minute of it. what a wonderful time : )

  17. michelle says:

Oh, you are just so fun! It looks just lovely, wish I could visit!

  18. I’m envious! I grew up with the exact same bath tub. I so miss it! I wish I could lounge outside in a nice tub,Surrounded by all the lovliness ya described. Wishing ya a wonderful day.
    Big Hugs~

  19. sadira says:

The gypsy garden is a perfect spot to spend time during the lovely weather we’re all having lately, eh?

  20. Oh, Vanessa, visiting you is a vacation for my mind!! Aaahh so delicious to have a beautiful bath in amongst the trees!!
I have pointed this out to my husband and doesn’t think we could do that here, something about the neighbours overlooking the back garden or some such nonsense!! Perhaps if he did do that for me we would no longer have neighbours….I might scare them off!!
You so inspire me to indulge in those little whimsys ( moving a bath tub is more than a little whimsy though) that jump into my head every now and again!!
    Kiss Noises Linda

  21. Di Overton says:

You are so lucky. If I set up a bathtub in my garden I would end up with hypothermia 🙁
    Beautiful post!

  22. Heidi says:

So much of my life seems to be spent waiting until something happens:”the kids grow up”, “we have more money”, “my husband retires from work”. I think I’ve become an expert for delayed gratification. A little reminder that life is simply meant to be enjoyed is a very good message. Thanks for your lovely post. I would definitely pay your price of admission to take a bath in a place like that!

  23. shibori girl says:

    Dear Miss Vee!
You have such the Adventurous Spirit, living outdoors, and boy do you Live. 😉 You make me wish I moved to a drier climate, as I too would enjoy an outdoor bath. Really? Only 5 cents? I’ll be hopping a plane out today to join the queue.
    xoxo
    Kate

  24. Deborah says:

Oh Little Keeper of the Promise, your photos are exquisite works of art…your use of natural lighting is pure genius! Photo #3 with the single dark branch against the subliminal whiteness of light is awe inspiring. You are truly living as the person you were created to be. It’s a bit of Pentecost every time I visit…you speak to us all through the grandeur lens of your camera and inspire us all to live life fully. **blows kisses** Deborah

  25. Just lovely, thouhg all the white in your first photos reminds me of Marta playing out in the snow. Come over to The House in the Woods to see the slide show 🙂

  26. Lisa Swifka says:

Girl, this gives “splish splash I was takin’ a bath” a whole new meaning! It’s divine! You have so many fabulous elements to surround yourself with. That’s the key to happy living….creating that special environment for dreaming and imagining and the perfect respite from the day to day ‘have tos’.
We all need to relax sometimes and just let our minds find the joy in even the simplest of things.
    You’ve created a swoon-worthy escape!
    XOXOXOXOXO

  27. Emily says:

OMG…I’ve newly discovered you and I have to say, Where do you live to be able to sit out side in February? It’s COLD here, I wish I could create a gypsy garden!
You have a beautiful sensibility. I enjoy your blog…it’s so fanciful!
    Emily

  28. I love your outdoor bathtub, I want one. I guess that wouldn’t go so well in our subdivision though.he he
The bath is one of the things that I do for my unwinding time along with a good book and a candle burning as I relax in the bubbles. Hugs, Bobbi Jo

  29. Johanna says:

How fun…I wish to bathe under the stars! (I’m sure my neighbors would love for me to as well!!)

  30. Scheharazade says:

    Really poetic !^-^
    bisous

  31. FawnDear says:

My brain will live vicariously through your posts until our own weather warms up, maybe this summer. Thanks again for the vacation.

  32. Barbara says:

Ah, but don’t you worry about scorpions when you sleep in your Gypsy Garden? We have black widows in Anaheim or I would love sleeping out in the courtyard when it gets warm enough…

  33. melissa says:

Ooohh. Send me some sunshine so that I can bathe in the rays. How glorious!

  34. Cassandra says:

I love your bathtub in the gypsy garden…

  35. Paris Parfait says:

Love your outdoor bathtub, your gypsy garden and YOU and your wonderful, whimsical ideas that you act on, rather than just dreaming about them. So inspiring, mi amiga! I like the peeling paint on the outhouse too. 🙂 xoxox

  36. karen cox says:

So lovely. I love all the white and your photographs spin a magical story. It’s nice to relax and get lost in the land of imagination and sunshine. Are you going to Lisa Kettell’s Carnival Soiree? Stop by and read all about it!
It sounds like something perfect for you.
    Karen

  37. Clare says:

I grew up with a claw foot tub and I miss it so much. I have plans for an outdoor bath in my back yard – This may motivate me to get it done sooner than I had planned.
    Have a wonderful week!

  38. stephanie says:

    mouth is hanging open
your beautiful bath, under the stars, with candles? oh yes.
    x..x

  39. Mo'a says:

Hello from my snowy world. We have had four inches overnight and it is still snowing this morning. I love it…a beautiful world outside…photo ops abound.
Living outside would be perfect…taking a bath while listening to the birds sing.
Then taking a nap with your best friend at your side…what could be better?
You are amazing…but my dear, moving a claw foot tub by yourself…well all is well that ends well 🙂
    Enjoy!!!!!

  40. Happy says:

All that billowing white – like my snowbanks. We so rarely have snow in central Virginia, and I know it won’t last, so it’s a treat, particularly for children. And there was enough of it that we are shut down, so we all get a play day. Spring is not far behind and it will be 60-something by the weekend. Ah, the simple pleasure of an unexpected free day. 🙂 Happy

  41. Kristal says:

Oh my gypsy soul is in heaven! Can I pack my bags & come hang out with you for awhile? Dare I say, my three pouches would love to play with Baby. But it will have to be a short trip, as not sure what to do with Hubby & two kids! But at least I can dream. And maybe make a Gypsy garden of my own :0) One that will encompass one hubby, two kids and three dogs…True bohemian style!

  42. Laura says:

I would love to bath in dry sunshine in an old enamel bath in the garden, but alas my neighbours would have far too much to say about it. So until I reach my secluded house I will have to make do with stretching my imagination inside!
A beautifully told and photographed story 🙂

  43. I love the gypsy garden! I am home from work today – snow day!! So that is ok too 🙂
    Enjoy!

  44. What a wonderful place! If I lived out in the country, I’d have a bath outside too…or a pool to skinny dip in. There’s nothing better than bathing in the moonlight. …memories…

  45. maddie says:

I was able to feel the magic and the sun from my little nest, if only for a few minutes….it was heaven 🙂
It is 51 degrees in my house right now…brrr! We lost power at 2am this morning and just got it back on a little bit ago so it’s going to take a while to warm up. I am snuggled up with the laptop and all 5 of our fur babies so all is well!
    Happy Monday Miss V!
    LuLu~*xoxo

  49. Maia says:

WHat wonderful images! I’ve just discovered your blog and am enjoying immensely!
We made our clawfoot tub into a koi pond with a redstone waterfall in it. Didn’t know if it was possible…but it has worked beautifully! It’s a pleasure every summer.
