It's officially that time of year, where some kind of nature magic happens.
The roses awaken from a deep slumber with enchantment pouring over.
It's these days we like to pretend we live in our own secret garden of sorts.
I have taken ever so many pictures and have 3 blog posts worth to share today.
Fair warning I hope.
My computer monitor blew up last week and I've finally gotten a new one installed.
Which is why I didn't peek in sooner.
In the meantime I took too many photos and had too hard of a time choosing what to share.
I've never been one to be able to stick to the less is more philosophy.
Which I'm sure you know by now, haha!
And so I snapped many photos in our own little sanctuary.
Where the sun dances exquisitely at the end of the day, sending me on all sorts of dreamscapes.
Pruning roses a plenty.
Petals flying into paths, creating their own kind of bliss.
Watching colors explode.
Trying to soak it all in.
Which in all honesty is almost impossible.
For some reason I can't quite absorb all the goodness.
It's like trying to catch a firefly.
Coreopsis dance in the sun.
Hollyhocks shoot up.
Mother Mary looks on.
Watching all her roses unfurl.
All sorts of roses open up.
Tea roses.
Lavender.
Red.
Pink.
Miles reminds me so much of sleeping beauty in this photo.
The white iceberg roses shoot up tall.
Trying to keep up with the reds.
The scent…
Such a scent in the garden.
I stroll around.
Watching birds, hearing fork and spoon wind chimes clank in song.
Waiting for golden hour.
Late in the afternoon.
When the eastern facing garden has sunbeams finding their way in from the west, through the oleanders.
Making everything glow.
Orbs of sunlight bounce around.
I look down from the porch.
I walk through the paths.
I lay in the wild grass.
Nature always takes my breath away.
The gophers try to kill all the hollyhocks by eating roots.
Somehow a few manage to stand while others topple over, roots gobbled.
Oh well.
Paper flowers.
This year I have collected less roses than ever.
I have let them just dance in the garden.
Enjoying their moment.
Pups on porch.
Spent ones tossed in the air as they are pruned.
A few in pitchers.
Sweet…
Little…
Things.
Something curious is that our coral rose bush that was here before us, and could be up to 40 years old, has started gifting us some ballet pink clusters.
It gives some wine red roses also, so it must have been grafted with light pink and wine to make coral.
I loooove the light pinks so much.
Rose bonanza.
Glorious time isn't it?
The rush of blooms in spring?
Really something.
Matty guards his kingdom.
As I sit and sip tea.
Watching birds flutter.
Who am I?
This girl who loves the simple things.
I've really grown into her the last 8 years.
All my hard work in this garden for 14 years is showing its colors now.
I've been here for 14, ML for about 20+.
This year I have planted nearly nothing in the flower garden.
I'm just watching it all happen now.
What a treat.
I pull my wagon, pruning, taking a few…
Just feeling lucky to get to see this.
Light bobbing around.
The garden doing its thing.
Me, the girl who loves such cliche' things.
Like puppies and flowers and birds.
Haha!
Who would have thought?
No one could have told me I would be this girl in my 30's.
Who swings in a hammock just trying to enjoy every day life.
It's really something, when you get to a place in your soul that you can take a deep breath.
That you let go of the life flutter.
And you just enjoy the moment.
Deep breath…
Ahhh, it's good.
To not care about trivial things and just live.
Life is happening now.
Not later, not tomorrow, not when or if.
But now.
Now is the moment.
Spring is here.
We are all so lucky to get to experience it all.
Aren't we?
Love, V
What's spring sharing with you these days?

How magical, Dear Vanessa!
My mother had a lovely rose garden when I was growing up and I loved it so (except for the time I leaned in too far sniffing a rose, fell over the fence and got all scratched by the thorns!). The scent of your beautiful garden must be heavenly! And what I love is that each of the colors smells just slightly different! I’m currently working on giving the porch a face-lift with new periwinkle Adirondack chairs and chartreuse pots for flowers and tomatoes! We get such a slow start on warm weather here, so I’m just now starting my tomato plants inside and they will be perfect for late next month to plant outside after the risk of frost is over. Can’t wait!!
Wishing you and your loved ones a beautiful evening!
With hugs,
Betty
It’s all so beautiful! Sigh….
While there aren’t any flowers (or grass really) here yet, there are plenty of baby chicks!:)
I just hatched 42 in my incubator and have some mama hens brooding some babies and eggs. â¤ï¸
Vanessa, eeverfything is just so very beautiful. I know the hard hard work it takes. I have yet to see my hard work truly blossom. My garden is just 3 years old and I have had to rearrange and take out a few plants due to our drought. So heartbreaking. I am hoping for some beautiful moments like yours in a few years. Sometimes, I am so exhausted from working in the garden, ripping out knarly roots, grass, huge plants I want to cry. Your garden gives me hope! xo Jen
I couldn’t help but think of the song in the Sound of Music…’These are a few of my favorite things!’
Miss Vanessa’s garden is one of them!
‘Roses, and doggies, and statues of Mary, tinkling of spoons overheard in the bowry, sparkling of sunshine all over place, this puts a very huge smile on my face!’
…sung to the tune of ‘My Favorite Things’.
oh Vanessa….your garden is exquisite. great photos and words to inspire. I’m in awe of God’s creation and how everything that you touch seems to turn to gold! 🙂 You are gifted in so many ways.. Good for you that you can enjoy all of that beauty that you’ve nurtured and worked so hard to create. And thank you for sharing it with us.. While I was out watering yesterday,
I noticed the shoots of my Bleeding Heart plant coming up! It’s delicate little hearts are one of my favorites..
Wishing you a special day..
Tamara<3
Heaven on earth!!
The fruits of all your hard labor are really showing with all your varieties and healthy blooms. It’s all so inspiring and magical, especially from someone who watched it sleet, snow and rain on my way to work this morning. Another day of high temps in the low 40s. Please blow some of your warm sunshine my way!
Vanessa dear, I just have to wonder what it must be like to smell such a lovely variety of roses as you awaken each day to visit and nurture your garden. My favorite rose scent is a lavender variety called the sterling silver. I see you have a beautiful lavender rose bush situated next to some beautiful red roses. These two look just amazing side by side in your photo above. Did you have a plan where each bush would be put when you began planting? Do you use miracle grow on them??? 😉
I have heard of the belle of the ball where as you are the belle of the rose garden!!! <3
Ms. V. You are such a gift! A gift for those needing joy, a gift for weary hearts, for chairside travelers, for everyone who lays eyes on your posts. Thank you for being you, Vanessa! Blessings.
Awwwe! Thank you dear Kelly <3 nope, no miracle grow or anything really. Just let them do their own thing. And of course, being the crazed type I planned nothing, lolll! Just flew by the seat of my pants, haha! Eeks 😉 xoxo
Oh my gosh. Your garden is so beautiful. I feel like I can smell your roses while looking at them. We are still dealing with rain, hail and snow but do have some tulips peaking out. Thanks for your wonderful posts and pictures!
Oh how lovely your roses are. Here in Michigan, Spring has arrived and nature is trying it’s hardest to do its thing. Lots of budding going on and the flowers and trees are just peeking above ground. It was very cold yesterday and last night it snowed Brrrrrr. Warmer days ahead and the warmth of the sun will arrive soon.
Ohhhh, this just made me happy 🙂 Your roses are sooo beautiful. I need more roses.
We do have a beautiful blooming backyard right now with all the azaleas in bloom. I love spring so much. We have sunshine again today after way too much rain.
It’s Eden incarnate… I’m so glad that someone with so much love and appreciation is the caretaker of such an exquisite place. You are truly blessed little Miss V and well deserving of it! Thank you so much for always sharing!
Oh Vanessa…..Living In AZ….I too grow roses….they do seem to love our heat during this time of year. I must say sweet friend…..YOURS ARE SPECTACULAR. NUF’ SAID!!
Jo
Sooo beautiful Miss V… and I love your wisdom about life as well… Miles and Matty look like they are having beautiful daydreams in the garden as well… going back for another look now… one cannot spend too much time in a garden you know… xoxo… Julie Marie
The roses are beautiful and bountiful. How I wish you can send me those sweet pale pink roses in the mail. Sigh. Enjoy your lovely roses for all of us. Around here, my favorite apple blossoms are slowly starting to grow. I can’t wait. How I love seeing and smelling them.
Gasp. Cannot get over the beauty. And so MANY roses! And the lavender ones! Oh my, Vanessa. Pure dreamy gorgeousness. One of my favorite posts ever — and actually, not even because of the roses. I love what you said toward the end. And totally agree. Oh, and … I cannot get over Miles and the gnome sleeping amongst the roses. Absolutely looks like a fairytale! My spring loves right now? Well, I don’t yet have a garden in our new home, so my faves are just green grass and tree leaves, teeny wildflowers (probably technically weeds, but I don’t care), magnolia blooms about to open, and … best of all … soft, fuzzy lil’ ducklings! My heart overflows over the beauty of nature and this earth. You’re right — it’s all so wondrous, it’s hard to fully absorb. Thank you so, so much for sharing what you did, and for gifting us with this rosy post. 🙂
So so jealous over all these glorious flowers! Just glorious.
Breathtaking. So glad you’re a more is more girl. 🙂
xoxo
So pretty. The mountain and the elevation makes the weather so much better there.
Absolutely stunning! And sleeping beauty….hehehehe….adorbs as always! xoxoxo Jen
Beautiful carpet of roses. I’ve been missing you, Sweet V!
Hope all is well.
