Preparing for A Peek Inside…

Hi there!  I hope everyone had a lovely Thanksgiving and a wonderful weekend.  I am busily preparing myself to open my doors tomorrow and share some other treats too.  I am currently covered in paint…

All week (Nov 30th – Dec 4th) I will be posting photos of where I live, the new office, etc.  I am working on tomorrow's Welcome In, and hope you might stop by for a peek…

Thanksgiving 2009 6

I had the most magical time with my family on Thanksgiving.  We went to my Grandparents house for Part 1 of the lunch munching festivities – down 50 stone steps to a cottage on a cliff.  Where yumminess is prepared on a wood burning stove (even though Granny has a full operating modern kitchen, she prefers cooking on her old gal, as I think I would too)…

Thanksgiving 2009 3

We laughed so hard we cried.  My Aunt Denise is a wild woman (as is my Mombie).  I think we laughed for 4 hours straight.  My Aunt and uncles and everyone are such a hoot.  The teenage kid (my cousin) thinks I am annoying and can't ever imagine that I was ever a disco table dancing wild teen.  Can you believe it???  ;)

Carolina who is 10 or so, and I, get along on the same level.  She laughs at everything I do, so she gets brownie points ;)  My sister flew in (she moved to Albuquerque in the summer to finish her PHD) and she brought her Douglas puppy furry son with her.  My brother was there, silent as ever, but with great remarks inserted for effect.  My sister tells tales about me that make everyone snort with laughter, thanks Kristen 😉 😉

My Grandmother is hilarious.  My Grandfather is over the top hilarious and he has no clue he is.  My Uncle carves the turkey, telling jokes that make you scream.

Thanksgiving 2009 1

We gross each other out, we cringe each other out and we do all this until everyone is thoroughly exhausted and ready to leave.

But not before I steal up the narrow rickety stairs with my Granny, and jump into her bed, where she shows me things she is crafting and more old pictures.

I love my family.  I got lucky.  I got blessed.  I got dropped right into a pack of angels who I adore.  I am thankful beyond words.  You never know how or why you get to be in the family you are in.  So, you just sigh and say, thank goodness over the moon.

As we were leaving Granny's I stole a photo of one lone flower at the bottom of the stairs.  Beautiful as could be, and I was certain, I saw some magical activity…

Thanksgiving 2009 5

Then we went off to Part 2 of our munching fest at our house.  A full blown dinner awaited us at our family home that Mombie had prepared earlier.  Munching our way into a night filled with alka seltzer 😉 (for me at least)

Mammie's table was lovely as ever.  She is amazing, the things she pulls off.  I hope I am even a smidgen like her.  She is one of those people who treats herself with love and respect and can have a party all by herself.  I admire her.

Thanksgiving 2009 2

One of the bestest things I love, is that my siblings and parents and I sit around the table talking openly about life and all sorts of things late into the night.

It was fun, and I safely returned to a town filled with car chaos and people lined up for miles to get to the mall.  The one place that freaks me out 😉

Now, the only thing I have left to do is figure out how to con my Dad into believing that this (below)  is what I really need to pull my gypsy wagon 😉 – right now he is holding it in the "junk" area of thought…

Thanksgiving 2009 4

I think he might change his mind.  I mean, he gave me a treasure that a client of his was taking to the trash dump.  So he is getting better at seeing the treasure part of one man's junk…  (I will show it to you soon)

We shall see 😉

For now, I must stop babbling your eyeballs off and go get ready to have you over tomorrow for the beginning of open house week!

🖤,V

It all sounds so De-Lovely! I must tell you that you are more than a smidge of your beloved Mombie…you are every bit the delightful, ingenious lady she is. So excited about your open house that I doubt I will sleep tonight! Is that one of my garden fairies with yours in that photo???

    Vanessa:
What a fabulous Thanksgiving you had. I adore your grandmother’s stove and admire anyone who can control the temperature on a real wood stove.
I am truly looking forward to your “open house”. Of course, I will be by everyday to see the photos! You’re going to need a vacation after this week!

  6. Brenda Kula says:

You were indeed lucky to get dropped into your sweet little family. I really never knew my parents. I have siblings I’ve never met, and who probably don’t know I exist. Yes, you were lucky. And I’m so happy you have them. You are obviously very much like your grandmother. She sounds like a doll. A creative one at that. Oh, and the mall creeps me out as well.
    Brenda

  7. Blessings to you Miss V! I do think that you did get lucky to be with your band of angels. Your family sounds like such great fun. Wish that I could be a part of that. My family…well…we have our moments and we have our traditions on both sides but it doesn’t sound nearly as enchanting as yours. I am looking forward to making new memories and starting new traditions in my new home, now just two days away! Yikes! I better get back to packing that box… enjoy the day! Erin

  8. Melody Sage says:

Lovely party! I used to have a morning glory blue version of a wood stove like that in my old house. I miss it so much!

I would LOVE to be amongst your family anytime! Your grandmother’s stove is beautiful and it’s remarkable that she is so in touch with it and can maintain the proper temperatures for whatever she is cooking. Your parent’s home is gorgeous and I would say anyone visiting would be treated royally. So much food, fun, great family gatherings and treasured memories!
Can’t wait for your open house ~

  12. Cori. G says:

Oh what a wonderful holiday you must have had!! 50 steps down to the cottage? Do we get to see pictures of the cottage? I would SO love to see pictures of the cottage!!! Especially if it houses that wonderful vintage stove. There must be a bevy of other delightful treasures stored away as well. Oh I’m getting new happy thoughts!!!
I’ll be up bright and early to take a peek into your wonderful world…I can’t wait!!!!
    Much love,

Your Thanksgiving sounds wonderful-so glad you had fun! Your Granny’s stove is just magical-and I bet her food is too. I love that vehicle at the end-does your Dad own it? I am sure he will give in to you-Dad’s are like that!

  17. Tina Gates says:

I feel sure, Vanessa, that the stork dropped me in the wrong house! Clearly it was meant to be yours! Seriously though, I love my family, but we don’t have nearly as much fun as what you guys do…you are blessed indeed. Thankyou for sharing your stories…

  18. Blessed are those families that can eat, drink and be merry together. Who can laugh until stomach muscles hurt, who can be open and natural with no pretense. Blessed are those families that really KNOW one another, idiosyncrasies and all, and love still abounds. Blessed are you that finds yourself in such a family…never take it for granted.
I look forward to your open house!
    XOXOXOXOXO

  19. Sounds like you had a wonderful time with your family, Vanessa! That’s what it’s all about ~ reminiscing, laughing, joking, eating, talking . . .

  20. Rhonda Roo says:

    {{{(Roo, still overstuffed like a turkey who ate too much pumpkin pis, and tried to write a novel that turned into a screenplay but that gave birth to a novelette, merely bounds off the walls and whees in anticipation of a whole week’s worth of fun at Veevala’s house)}}}

  21. Rhonda Roo says:

wait-not pumpkin pis, which might be slightly acidic. Pumpkin PIE.
    {{{sigh~giggle~sigh}}}}
