On a Sunny Day…

On a bright sunny happy weekday, I throw open the curtains and get ready to face my busy little day…

Work away 7

I love my office, it makes me happy and makes busy days a pleasure to tackle.  It is more than an office really, as it is where I spend most of my time.  It was such a long long time in the making, but worth the wait in the end.

I scurry around, putting away freshly laundered linens while one printer gets a print head cleaning and stickers print on my other printer.  The pups play outside my screen door, and warm sunny air seeps in.  Winter in Southern Arizona is such a treat.  A sunny warm 68' day is bliss to me…

Work away 8

That's when I realize, I have not introduced you to a very important member of A Fanciful Twistland.

Who is it you ask?  Well, it is a wee horseboy who was my gift to myself on my birthday…

Work away 4

It is so funny, I have a few other characters to introduce you to as well.  I have never collected horses per se, but this past birthday brought me lots of horse love.  Isn't that unusual?

Anyhow, this little guy from the 1920's needs a name.  And, I think you might be just the group to name him for me.

I have had names like Henry and Jeremiah ringing in my ears…

What name do you think suits him?

Work away 5

I will reward you with a little parcel to your mail box if I choose the name you give my new horseboy.  He is such great company, and motivates me to get my work done ;)

In fact, he says that not only has he read the book "Animal Inn," he has actually stayed at the Animal Inn.  So, tales are in store for certain!

Work away 6

Now I have to get back to work, but not before I share a chocolate with you.

Work away 1

I can only have one, or my head will hurt all day and I will feel all around rotten.  So how will we choose?

Work away 3

I want the one with the caramel and nut center…

Now, back to work I go – my coffee is winking at me, time to sip and snap back into the swing of things…

Work away 2

Don't forget to help me name my horseboy.  Really, feel the vibe, what name is he whispering to you, I wonder???

🖤 ,V

ps:  There is a huge chance we will be moving the Mad Tea Party to Spring this year.  Thank you for voting yes on that ;)

pss:  I am working on trying to figure out how to show you some crochet tips (per your request), as I don't know the proper lingo.  Oh and, about my yarn.  Some asked where I get it?  I get it anywhere and everywhere.  Most of it I got 5 or 6 years ago, when I was on a yarn shopping spree (I have two trunks full).  I got a lot of the really pretty unusual stuff at a local specialty yarn shop.  I think it is called Purls?  But I am not sure, as the one near me has since closed.  I also got some incredible sparkly ribboned yarn in Taos, New Mexico a few years ago.  I am sure if you visit your local specialty yarn shops, you will find things you don't see in big craft stores…

  1. Sarah says:

The horse is wonderful and has a very indian look to him. An image of little boys playing cowboys and indians comes to mind…. So, with that in mind, I think you should call him MOSES. See below….
Moses J. “Chief” Yellow Horse (also Yellowhorse) (January 28, 1898 – April 10, 1964), was an American baseball player who pitched for the Pittsburgh Pirates, from 1921 until 1922. A Native American from the Pawnee tribe, he is the first full-blooded American Indian to have played in the Major Leagues.

  2. Susan says:

How about Wilbour? Or Humphrey the horse? Henry? 🙂

  3. Jennifer says:

    I’m thinking Horatio.

  4. Hi, Miss V
Love your pony! How about Jingle Jangle for his name? As you wish…
    heehee…

  5. Silke says:

When I looked at your lovely horse, the name Lawrence came to mind. Probably because he is such a sophisticated and well-traveled horse with many stories to tell!
Thanks for answering my yarn question. I’ll have to start collecting more unusual yarns…
    🙂 Silke

  6. Shelby Lynn says:

Isn’t he just handsome! Such a wonderful horse deserves a special name……
    El Dorado!
    “The Golden One”
I think it’s befitting of such a Dashing Fellow!
Good Luck on your name search

  7. Laura says:

When I saw your new horsey the first word that popped in my head was Zachariah! I don’t know why. 🙂
    have a wonderful day
    blessings
    ~*~

  8. Mica says:

Amerigo Amigo’s Diablo! That is my pick for your horse name! Hugs for the New Year!
    Mica

  9. Danielle says:

He is yellow like sunshine so how about “sunshine” or “Sunny” for short.
    -Danielle (also from AZ)

  10. Emily says:

Your horse looks like a Mr. Collingsworth to me. 🙂

  11. Deborah says:

May I come work in YOUR office tomorrow, please and thank you.
I am thinking Barbaro…2006 Kentucky Derby winner, Triple Crown Favorite. He made a valiant 8 month attempt to recover from his injury but eventually had to be put down, and the horse community wept. He is a symbol of strength and courage.
So, I’ll be there about 6 in the morning, okay? Coffee please… **blows kisses** Deb

  12. Gerry says:

Abbott comes to mind. An unhorse-like name for a horse who is like no other.

  13. Sylvia says:

I think she looks like a lady with her hat on and red necklace…Anabelle? She is a beauty…

  14. Sarah says:

I showed Andy and he said Rocky. I think Horace but then Sigmund came to mind! He has a very interrogating look about him with that eyebrow. I don’t think he would be easily fooled.

  15. Sami Felmet says:

Seems to me the name that horsey has heard more often than any throughout his history is Boy. Giddyup Boy! Or if he fancies a name more fanciful moniker, how about Topaz? Buttercup?

  16. Lynn says:

How about Amos, according to my book of names it’s a Hebrew name meaning “bearer of burdens”.

  17. Sami Felmet says:

How I wish there were a correction option. I would correct my sentence to read “Or if he fancies a more fanciful moniker, how about Topaz or Buttercup?” I apologize for taking up a second space.

  18. Theresa says:

    How about Barnabas? 🙂

  19. Alia says:

I think he looks like a Sebastian, or possibly a Charles, which is very distinguished, but then you could call him charlie when he was feeling frisky!

  20. Carmen says:

How about Hayworth? What a cute horse. I love all of your photos. Such beautiful things.

  21. He’s such a pretty yellow. I think I might name him Amarillo but for some strange reason I think he might be called Skippy. teehee…something is definitely wrong with me today.

  22. Rhonda Roo says:

    Eduardo Amarillo de Narrador Suave.
    (No really) 🖤 ☺
    xxxooooxxxxoooo

  23. Rainey says:

Glad tidings from Ireland. It’s been a while since I’ve visited.& oh mo stor(my dear) these pictures are peachy. I think his name is Mr. Garlock. I’ll pass on the story of Monsieur Garlock if the name sticks. oh I will be eager to attend the Mad Tea Party so I’ll be back regularly so as I don’t miss it!as that wouldn’t do oh no wouldn’t do at all at all
Anyway petal A Happy new Year to You & Yours from Me & Mine!
    Rainey

  24. Laurie Griffin says:

I think you should name him Woody. Woody Horsenhoffer. Yep, that’s the one. 🙂

  25. Diana says:

What a charming pony! The first name that came to my mind was Napoleon. I am slightly fixated on that name now, but if it doesn’t suit you, maybe Leo is more of a charming name for a charming pony. Hmmm but now Julian is crawling into my mind… 😉

  26. Blanche says:

Immediately I thought of the Triple Crown to find a name appropriate for a thoroughbred such as your beauty!
Sir Barton (1916-1937) was the first winner of the American Triple Crown in 1919.
He certainly looks very distinguished in his photo with the top hat!

  27. Cindi aka oldblackcatboo says:

Well, I had a bunch of different names in mind and then I saw Laurie’s name idea – “Woody Horsenhoffer”… crap, I can’t do better than that!

  28. Riss says:

Sundance seems so fitting of such a sunny, cheery fellow! Good luck deciding which of all these fantastic names it shall be! ***blessed be***

  29. Linda says:

I think the name Harry fits him the best.
A great piece to add to your collection of many things. So noble…could be “Sir Harry”

  30. Julie H-J says:

    I think he is a “Periwinkle”…yes, I’m quite sure of it : )

  31. Marlene says:

He said he is from Royalty when he whispered in my ear…He’s known as Sir Bernard to all but to his closet friends they call him “Bernie”…he has globe trotted around the world & has seen many many fastinating places that he would love to talk to you about…but this will have to wait until the Great Race Of Names comes to the Finish Line & we find out what his Winning Name Is…ahhhh till then my friend

  32. susan says:

If there is a coconut in the box, I’ll take that one.
How about “Chip” for your beautiful horse.

  33. Hello Vanessa… your sweet horsie’s name came to me from your post… I recognized your vintage cup in your office, and of course, something (or someone?) told me his name is to be “Bailey” non?… xoxo Julie Marie

  34. Hi, I would be all day long in your so beautiful working place!!! And that little horse is waiting for a name… what about “caballito”? meaning little horse.
    Muchos cariños,
    Maria Cecilia

  35. Nicole Gendy says:

I really like Henry for him, but if you want another suggestion, how about Julian?

  36. Wende L. Scroggins says:

He looks like a Winston to me! Hope you have a blessed day!

  37. Nelly says:

How about Huckleberry? I think it’s a funny name. It reminds me of the country:)
    I love old vintage horses.

  38. Well, as he looks like a magnificent circus steed, I would name his after my favorite circus character: Toby

  39. SueAnn says:

He looks like a Galahad to me!!! All knightly and such!! I love him!! He is welcome to come visit my place whenever he wants. Betty Boop would be thrilled!!!
    Hugging you
    SueAnn

  40. Justice M. says:

    V~
Your blog is absolutely charming and i usually don’t comment but i feel I have the perfect name for your horse. Sir Chauncey S. Lawrence. He just seems of such social rank. Like a duke or lord. S stands for Sebastian which comes from his mothers great grandfather, Lord Sebastian Lawrence.
    Much love, Justice

  41. Cori. G says:

Laramie Luscious Lemondrop, the Duke of the kingdom of dontkick. Hee hee! That’s the name I would pick.
    xoxo cori

  42. Richele @ Studio D says:

    Vanessa,
I like Jeremiah! And you could call him Mr. J for short.
My names always morph into other nicknames. And usually the nicknames have nicknames too.
Have fun and happy belated birthday sweet lady!
    Big love, Richele

  43. Renee Lange says:

I like Whirleygig, which was the name of the horse used in an episode of I Love Lucy from the 1950’s.

  44. Sallyacious says:

He looks like a Jasper to me.
I would love to learn to crochet. Everybody I know either knits or tats. So please do put up a tutorial if you can figure out how.

  45. I’m rather fond of the name Jeremiah also…although there are some *outstanding* suggestions in your earlier comments that make me laugh in a joyful outburst.

  46. dena miller says:

    Vanessa,
I first thought of Humphry the Horseboy but someone already posted the name “Humphry”. Ohh my…let me see…how about..Tobias Trubodour? He does look rather stately.
    Hugs,
    Dena

  47. Laura says:

How funny that he whispered “Toby” to me, and then I read where he whispered it to someone else too!

  48. Marilyn says:

The little girl in me keeps screaming, “Amarillo, el Pony”.

  49. GG Pinkster says:

Skeeter Jeremiah W.L.Saunders…lightness and sun with blue dapper and red. Well Loved.

  50. Tina Cotton says:

He looks like a Sebastian or an Oliver. 🙂

  54. Laume says:

He’s so gloriously golden, I think his name is Dubloon. Or maybe that’s his last name, as in “Henri Dubloon” or “Dobby Dubloon”.
And yes, the caramel nut center is always my first choice – the difficulty is in finding it without taking a corner off of each and every chocolate in the box!

  55. Sara B says:

Looks like Hawthorn Periwinkle III to me..

  56. Good morning from the UK. Here in England carousel horses have always traditionaly been called ‘Prancer’ He definately looks English to me, and Iknow he’ll have some fascinating tales to tell you of travelling fairs. I love the name Jeremiah, I had a puppy so many years ago named Jeremiah.
He was one ten that our husky gifted us on a New Year’s Day…
We named all ten from Pumpkin Seeds to Little One.
This prancing pony also looks like a Merlin to me, in all those years I bet
he has gathered a bit of wizardry.
Have fun and good luck; you have a great list of names to pick from…
    Louise

  59. Gosh I love your office! The ship on top just takes my breath away, it is too gorgoeus. As is your delightful dappled pony. A name…oh how hard I want to say Haiti in memory of those there who have gone through such devestation to remind us that even when things are damaged and worn that they can still be lovely in years to come, but then that might be too sad.
So what about Bastian like the boy from The Never Ending Story…ready for any adventure.
    Kiss Noises Linda

  60. amy faldet says:

Ahhh…sit a spell beneath this sandy swell and I will relate the story I have to tell. There once was a magical pony who loved to run with his favorite Arizona desert dogs, Ms. V’s babies. He always laughed and whinnied when he visited them, gathering desert roses for her aviary and letting Mr. Lovee feed him only the best carrots and brush him down. To all of them, his name was a mystery until one day darling Vanessa repaid the horse’s kindnesses with a red and blue collar, so regal, so whimsical, all at once. Upon fastening the golden clasp the horse was given magical abilities. With his hoof, the left one, to be precise, he could place his hoof prints, just so in the sand and spell out anything he wanted to say. So, his first words, were of course, “I love you. and Dreams always come true.” When Mr. Lovee and Vanessa asked this dear golden horse his name, he replied, “I am Clever Hans II” and I am no ordinary colt. I scatter joy and will always rekindle wonder in the hearts of children and the young at heart.” After these wonderful days, Clever Hans II lived with them always and would run with the fur babies and bring magical pink roses in his happy grin.
    Faerytales do come true.
    Blessings,
    Friend Amy

  63. Kathy says:

Sir Hugo. He’s been knighted, of course. Perhaps because he has fought and slain many a fire-breathing dragon. OK. I don’t like the slain part. How about instead of “fought and slain” he’s befriended many a dragon. Besides, Hugo is a friendly sounding name.
That’s my pick. Have a happy day, Vanessa!
    Kathy

  64. Tecu'Mish says:

  127. Whew, I didn’t read any of the other comments, so if this name is already used I apologize. What comes to my mind is “Jester” he seems to have a playful, yet wee bit mischievous look in those eyes! Along with his coloring, it just suits him to me. I DO collect horses by the way!

Django is what he said, as guitar played happily in the air. I’ve been following your magical blog for a number of delightful months now. This is the first time I’ve said hello. The handsome horse boy said it was time.

  131. Cinnibonbon says:

    Well..
His distinguished face surely calls for an equally righteous name.
    I say
Sir Esquest of Twistland Fancy I
    or
    Sir Esquestrain Fanciful

  132. Cinnibonbon says:

PS..whatever you name this dear boy…he looks like he should be “the 3rd” LOL. Something tells me he comes from a long lineage.

  133. Elaine L. says:

The first name that came to my mind when I saw him was Arthur. Don’t know why.
I like Sarah’s idea, but instead of naming him Moses, I’d name him Chief Yellow Horse.

  138. Dear V,
There are many wonderful suggestions that people have left here…
I thought of Pégase…I know this one hasn’t got wings, but with your Fanciful magic you can make him fly above the clouds.I am sure you would be flying high in the sky if you were riding on him right now.Give it a go, try…and fly…

  139. Kelley says:

He reminds me of an old English rocking-horse- how about an old English name- like.. Carrington?
BTW- I love your blog and art- you have such a great eye for color – and take really beautiful pictures. Your art is lovely, as well.

  140. Pat says:

He is such a bright and happy, cheerful horse! I think we should name him Sundance or Sundancer.
Can I come and live with you? Your home, office, gallery are all just mesmerizing!

  141. Tina says:

He looks like a Chester to me.
I thought I was the only one with the weird chocolate/headache thing. Such a sad thing isn’t it?!

  142. Tawny says:

I think he looks like a Murphy… he is absolutely darling!! i cant wait to hear all the stories he has to tell!

  143. Hey sis, how about Bernard…. or Arnoldo… or Reynaldo, haha… but seriously, Bernard… then you can call him Bernardino. Bernardino Bandido! I am going to get him a Flamenco hat so he can be Bernardino Bandido!

  144. Anja says:

    Marcello
He looks a little bit Italian to me. Must be the haircut. Neat!

That horse should be called “Tippy-Toe” he stands there on his tippy-toes ready for a fast romp to and fro….. Giddy up Tippy-Toe!
Say it…over and over… and you’ll see, Tippy-Toe is the name thats meant to be~
Oh…. and if your only able to have ONE chocolate per day… take one bite of each one until you’ve made up the equivalent of “just one”.
    Chaste hugs & air kisses,
    ~Cheryl

He looks like a “Vincent” to me. How about that?! Oh have you seen this? So creepy good! http://geektyrant.com/news/2009/12/21/must-watch-fantastically-frightening-holiday-short-film-alma.html

  151. karin says:

I love your linnen closet. It’s so beautiful!
I think the horsy looks like an Olivier. A little French, a little bit proud he looks. But he has a good heart. It may be wooden, but it’s warm still 😉

  152. Chris says:

Look at me! so late again!
Since horseboy likes stories, I bet he likes ‘tails’ too, eh?! HA! Tales of wonder and mystery, like Mr. Poe would write? Or, would he like Swishy tails? HAha!
I am going to think and think, and even though I’m too late, maybe you will like my names just for the fun of it.

  153. Chris says:

He looks like he likes to prance. Sir Prancelot?
How about Golden Boy? Or, how about Sir Prancelot Highstep of Saddleback Canyon?
    Or, Lord Golden Mane !
I am getting carried away. I may need a little nap…
