My Mom grew up with a tradition that she shared with her children. The tradition is, if it is cloudy or raining, there will be pancakes to eat. When it rains in Arizona, it is a huge treat. I think the staying inside and cozy aspect of rain in the desert southwest, lends itself to the consumption of sweet little cakes (when droplets turn up)…
It is not raining today, but a bit chillier than normal. A perfect day for Old Fashioned Oatmeal Pancakes.
I have been so excited about The Mad Tea Party, and being on this finishing side of projects. I have been doing much needed housework, and going back and forth to my other house, bringing treats for the party. I know it is early, we still have two months before the party. But, for some reason, time flies in my world.
So, this morning, with that fresh feeling of projects completed and the house getting a bit back to normal (whatever normal is), it was all about pancakes 🙂

These pancakes are the best I have ever tasted. I have made them often, and changed the recipe a little…

I like a quiet, warm pancake, morning. Especially today, when every muscle in my body hurts from loading my car so full at the city house yesterday (one hour away), that not even one toothpick would fit in my car when I was done. Poor car is sitting out there bursting at the seams, and I must go unload it asap.
You see, I am mad 😉
Oh and, I did another insane thing yesterday, in the name of blogosphere fun. You will see sooooo sooooon! Ooooo iieeeeeee, yes you will see ;)))
So, let me sit here with you for one more second, and sip. Before my crazy life grabs me by the bloomers and shoves me out the door.

My first television watching memories are with the Ingalls family, and my first book was Little House on the Prairie. Which I drew in, and lost.
I love oatmeal pancakes, but if I followed your Mother’s rule about eating them on rainy or cold days, I’d be eating them too often. It’s finally sunny here in New York!

Okay, I have to tell you that my girls and I could be Little House on the Prairie trivia champions. To this day, if I can find it on tv somewhere, I’ll watch it. Life was so simple then and towns such communities of love. It’s a feel-good show for sure. Can’t wait for the tea party!

The oatmeal Pancakes look yummy! I have to say I am a Little House snob. I LOVED the books and read them many times over during my childhood, but didn’t care for the TV series because it didn’t follow the books and characters correctly. I know, it’s silly but it really bothered me. OH well, silly little kids.

Oh gosh, I LOVE Little House! I went through a stage where I watched it almost every day while my baby napped 🙂 I love the show AND the books, for completely separate reasons.
However, I live in the Pacific Northwest and if I made pancakes every time it rained… 🙂

I was at a mad tea party today, for sure. It is May Day and all the ladies in my family went to afternoon tea at a little cafe in a bookstore! I certainly had my carb splurge for the week so pancakes will have to wait … maybe until the next rainy day in Phoenix. Little House sure gives me the Sunday feeling. That Nellie put my stomach in knots! She was so mean I could watch when she was on.
Oops! I meant … could NOT watch when Nellie was on.

I never read the Little House series as a child, but we are reading it out loud to my son (now 5) at bedtime. We just got through the loooooong winter. Oh, my, how it filled me with gratitude for all my small comforts.
And, I must say, those pancakes look DELICIOUS! I think I might miss pancakes most of all since I went off gluten. Especially oatmeal pancakes. And especially on a rainy day.

My daughter is totally into Little House this year at age 9. So much so that I bought the pilot episode on DVD. And we went to see the live musical play when it came to the Overture Center in Madison, WI with Melissa Gilbert playing the role of Ma. My sister and I were in heaven, I tell ya!

What yummy pancakes you have shared with me. I took several “virtual” bites and was in heaven. We didn’t get rain here…we received copious quantities of snow!!! Yep…SNOW!! Luckily it melted before the day was over! Sheesh!
