Of Wool and Flour

It was one of those days where the sky was a pale shade of grey and the sun stayed in bed all day.  Such a treat for the sun laden place we live in.

Simplicity reigned, and yarn won the heart of a girl for the day…

For Today 11

A bit of time to relax (much needed) and drift off.  My grandmother taught me the basics of crocheting a few years ago, and I just sort of wing it as I go.  Typical of other things in my life. Just do it and see what happens seems to be my predetermined life motto…

For Today 10

And since I have no expectations,  I am usually thrilled with any results that might look flower or blanket or hat or scarf like 😉

Heck, I might even put it on my head and call it a hat if it doesn't look like it fits into any category.  I made a beret by accident and a couple other hats over the holidays.

There is just something about yarn that takes over my senses…

For Today 12

For Today 14

I looped and wove while a concoction doubled in size (twice) in the kitchen…

For Today 5

I love days like this…

For Today 4

For Today 3

Into the oven they went, after rising perfectly, just as planned (thank you bread).  As they baked and the scent of fresh bread filled the air I tackled the great wall of blanket.

For Today 7

I am on a mission to finish this warm colorful creature.  I get mesmerized with it and lost in it.  I started it 3 years ago, as I shared in a previous post, but then lost interest for about 1.5 years.  Now I am beyond interested again, and have added about 8 inches in width in about a week.  It is soooooooooo long!  What was I thinking?  😉

For Today 8

I know I will be in love when I am done.  I can't wait to wrap myself up in it.  I do that a bit while I am working on it.  It is about half the size of a king size bed right now.  And, I don't even have a king sized bed :)  So, maybe it is simply for cuddling in and wrapping ourselves up real tight, like enchiladas?

Yes yes, that must be it.

(DING)

The heavenly loaves must be ready…

For Today 2

Oh goodness, the smell.  Two perfect loaves of Challah…

For Today 1

Yummmmmmy!

OKay, let me be honest for a second.  The people I got the recipe from gave me a cook time and temp. that was so wrong it was almost funny.  But luckily, I am an obsessive oven watcher.  I even sit on the floor, in front of the oven, and watch things bake.  So, when after 7 minutes (the recipe called for 45 mins) the breads looked more than done (on the outside), I covered them with foil and let them cook a little more inside.  Luckily they turned out scrumdillyumptious.

BUT, I won't share the recipe until I perfect the timing etc. later this week.

I cut you a piece, but I couldn't resist biting into it, sorry :)

Hot bread with butter and raspberry jam = bliss…

For Today 6

Mmmmm, bread and yarn, what more could you ask for on a beautiful cloudy overcast day?

For Today 9

Flour and yarn were my first pictures in my new 2010 file for blog photos.  It is so wild to peek into the different files of photos - 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and now 2010.

Can you guess how many photos I took in 2009?  I checked the file out of curiosity, and what did I find?

Vanessa valencia

44, 163.

Yep.

Total insanity 🙂

There are so many photos I never got a chance to share.  It's never too late, right?

Oops, I best get back to the blanket.  It is calling me and I have some movies to veg out with and crochet my heart out…

For Today 13

🖤 ,V

ps:  Thank you for not dis-owning us with that ridiculously silly video.  Me and my annoying voice and Mister and his, his, well wackyness.  We are ever so silly sometimes.  We are known to stay up until 3 a.m. giggling like kids at camp, about inside jokes and all matter of nonsense.  Accepting sillyness is what we do best.  Thank you for "getting" us ;)  We might have a few more lil' productions up our sleeve.  Should we quit now or make another?

  1. Kylee says:

    V~
I just LOVE LOVE LOVE that blanket. The color is amazing!! I’m such a blanket person. I have a whole closet full 🙂
And YES YES YES please make more wacky silly videos. You and Mr. Lovee are too cute!!
    Enjoy your evening!!

  2. Rhonda Roo says:

    oh! I know!
“the mad hatter and Super V go to the great wall of blanket”
    or maybe “the crocheted enchilada”
(like if Julia & Martha ever met….
    or “Tale of two challahs”…
Good thing your twinklepeeps arent silly. We keeps ya grounded.
    HAHAHAH!
Ahem. whatever you come up with it is sure to be well documented. HAH!
wishing u abundant joys in 2010, complete with yarn spinning foodage making, gumballs pictures and packing tape,
    the rooty tooty fruity Rooster

  3. vivian says:

    oh yes more videos!!

  4. DGotlib says:

44,163! What a wonderful number. What is your number for Twenty Ten? You’ll need an extra special number to beat this bit of magic. Happy New Year!

  5. Maryann says:

Absolutely more videos. I always wondered what you sounded like. I was pretty close 🙂
You’ve got me thinking about using up all my yarn too. Why not? A beautiful, warm, quirky, blanket of many colors!!!
Are you just doing a simple single crochet, double, mixture???? I suppose with all the different fuzzy yarn love, it’s hard to tell what stitches they are anyway LOL! My grandma from Italy taught me to crochet when I was little. Can’t see a crochet needle without thinking of her.

  6. Birdie says:

    Please make another.
    You make me laugh so.

  7. I just had to go back and look at the video again! I think that French man is so very handsome! And at the end when you sing, it’s so very pretty…but when you go la la la I start laughing so hard tears come to my eyes! We want MORE! Bring back the handsome French man! The mad hatter!!!

  8. Laume says:

Those of us that live in precipitation challenged locations do have to make the most of a gray and cozy day. Good choices for filling the day with warmth and color!
And now I think I need to make bread. It’s been such a long time since I have – the only problem is…. finding a warm spot in our winter home for it to rise…. hmmmmm. Surrounded by a few cats? Under the covers with the teenager? In front of the heater vent where the chihuahua sits? This might be a challenge.

  9. Krista Komis says:

More more videos please! You two are so adorable it makes my heart explode, heehee.
Oh and that blanket looks sooo lovely, the colors are just..mind-blowing, really. I can’t knit or crochet or sew (anything with a needle and some form of thread) to save my life! I think I was able to make a deformed pot holder once..heehee was it ever funny to look at! (We never used it, just laughed at it)
    😉
    xoxo
    -Krista

  10. Love the bread and the yarn. I love spending wintry days crafting in my house, tending a fire and baking-bliss!
The French mad hatter is so…French & adorable, loved it!
    Rock on!~Dusti

  11. that cuddly blanket is gonna be wonderful! and don’t even get me started on that bread…. my mouth is watering and my diet mood is slipping… oy. I like to watch things bake, too 🙂

  12. Jennifer says:

That bread looks divine, I would love for you to share the recipe when you perfect it. Challah makes the most perfect french toast. Great blanket, so colourful and cheery.

  13. Maggi says:

Such a fun blanket! I’ve become obsessed with my crochet and yarn lately! lol That bread looks amazing!

  14. Laura says:

oh, you most definitely must make more! that was so cute and i sat here and giggled my way through it. and this weekend will be a bread baking weekend, now that i’ve seen your delicious bread!
    blessings

  15. Theresa says:

Mmmmmm…two of my favorite things – yarn and baked goods! The bread looks delicious, and I like the shot of glitter you using with those colorful yarns. I cannot for the life of me crochet, but I do knit (and backwards, I might add). Make some more videos – this one was totally cute!!! I LOVE that your husband got involved. 🙂 Theresa

  16. Oh yes, make another…love! That blanket is just wonderful V…I am knitting my baby girl a scarf with the most soft and fluffy yarn right now…but a blanket, that might be next on my list! I can smell the bread, mmmm…
    Jamie 🙂
p.s. did I tell you that your banner is to die for…I love how you tweak it…this may be my fav yet!

  17. Candace says:

    More, please!
And your banner is indeed fantasmic but that quilt is fantabulosa! Love that you will share your challah “receipt” as my Gran would say. I am starting to do all these things you go over here and challah is where I want to go soon soon soonest.
Gracious goodness to you and the Loveman. AND Matisse and Baby, of course — must not leave them out!
    Candace in Athens.

  18. Vicki says:

Both of your concoctions look delicious! As for the photos… all the more photos for us to enjoy! I love that number, so thank you Miss V~

  19. Janel says:

The blanket is marvelous! It’s a fiesta all by itself!
And the video, I’ll take a “toke” of whatever it was that you were smoking! 😉

  20. Chris says:

    oh, wow. that bread….
Yes, more videos, please! Can’t get enough of ze accent!

  21. Elaine L. says:

I love the colors in the blanket and how freely you’re creating it.
I loved hearing your and Mister’s voices.
Yes, do make some more videos.
    ~elaine~

  22. Make another! Make another! Record an album! Let us hear it! *chants from Sweden*

  23. K Wright says:

Yes, your video made me smile again and again! I especially love “Zee” the Mad Hatter!! It’s wonderful that you can put silly videos up of yourself for the rest of us who totally “get” what they are all about! Not many people can do that, and it’s really nice for the rest of us.
P.S. As I watched your video the first time, I thought to myself how wonderful is her accent! I live in the south were we have a distinct twang!!!!!

  24. SueAnn says:

Oh do make another!! Dance and sing and have fun!! Be free dear one!! Be young at heart forever!!!!!!!
Love your newest blanket…the colors are so yummy!! I can see you sitting in your Gypsy wagon with that wrapped around you and telling us stories. I love it!!
    Hugging you
    SueAnn

  25. Marjorie says:

WOW!! What an impressive number of snaps to have taken in one year!! Hooray for that!! 🙂
And I attempted crochet over my little break (my lovely and patient Mama tried to teach me….alas) I was horrible at it! I can just barely knit, so I guess I’ll leave it at that! meep! tee hee!!
You bread is making me want second breakfast!!
& YES! you should both definitely make more silly films! I loved it and it made me smile big!! 🙂
Hip Hip hooorrraaaah for silliness and all sorts of fun and follies! 🙂

  26. Cassandra says:

    I love bread.
And I really REALLY love that blanket..the textures, the colors…it’s absolutely stunning!

  27. Deborah says:

Oh dearest Gypsy, NEVER quit! You are exactly who you were meant to be…inspiring, bewitching, magical in every sense. Only you could take photos of yarn that would make beautiful art on the wall. I think that you have invented some incredible new stitches on that fantastic blanket! Your flowers are divine. I do think the best I’ve ever seen! You have more artistic creativity in that tiny little finger of yours than half the world has! Oh how I adore you. **blows kisses** Deb

  28. this must be the year for finishing projects, that blanket is beautiful. I just started working on my doll house, check it out when you get a chance

  29. Sonya says:

I drop out and you start crocheting? Long time, no see! Happy New Year!

  30. Cori G. says:

Make more! Make more….PPPLLLLEEEAAASE!!! And your voice is anything but annoying!! Darling, sweet, endearing, magical…like the sweet sound of a mountain creek gently flowing down the side of a hill…hee hee!!! What silly girls we are, yes? Yes! Me thinks so too!!!! I am so envying your blanket love, in a good way of course and your Callah….yummy yummy. Oh I too watch the oven while things are baking and rarely use a timer…where would be the fun in that?!!!
    love, me

  31. I´m totally in love with your pictures and the way you make the most beautiful images out of something so simple… just great and wonderful!!!
Wishing you and family a very happy and blessed 2010.
    Muchos cariños,
    Maria Cecilia

  32. Amisha says:

    That blanket looks gorgeous!

  33. Sylvia says:

My 9 year old and I would love more videos…he tends to read my blogs over my shoulder…which drive me nuts but I found out that he did make a wish on your wish post. The reason I know this is because he asked me if you had released all the wishes and when I told him Yes, you had, he responded with ..Good, I hope my wish comes true. Thanks for sharing your sillyness…
    Hugs..

  34. carolee says:

Okay, first – your video was the highlight of my day. Too funny and enchanting, and your Mister’s French accent had me giggling so hard…what a guy to play the Mad Hatter in your wishkeeper video – quite the keeper himself I think, haha.
Second, I have quite the love affair with yarn myself, but knitting rather than crochet. I really MUST learn to crochet sometime though – so many knitting patterns have crocheted edges and trim. And your beautiful flowers have convinced me to give it a try, so THANK YOU!
Finally, that challah bread looks AMAZING, and yes, the recipe please! I have a recipe of my own here for Butterscotch Bread Pudding with Rum Drunken Raisins (served with fresh berries), and it calls for day old challah, which is nearly impossible to find here. So I’m thinking I need to make some myself, yes? I’ll be waiting with bated breath….
In the meantime, thanks as always for the enchanting post – Wishing You and the Wishkeeper a magical 2010!!
    ~🖤~ Carolee

  35. What a beautiful blanket, I LOVE all the colors!! I have been crocheting since I was 12. I hadn’t done it in quite awhile and just recently started to again. There is something so Zen about it. Please do make more Videos, it was fun. You are so lucky to have a silly mister.
    Take Care,
    Tracy M.

  36. I absolutely adored your silly video. The funny thing is that I watched it the day my Moochoo and I filmed ourselves playing in the snow (lots and lots in England at the moment).I haven’t finished to put all the images together but you will be invited of course when I have finished. It is good to hear you both giggle believe me.
    Big hugs to you!
PS: your bread looks delicious by the way.Yum!
    😉

  37. Kim says:

    Vanessa:
I absolutely adore that blanket. I grew up in a predominately hispanic area and most of my friends were of Mexican decent. The colors in that blanket remind me so much of their warm and vibrant homes. Keep up the good work. It is a beautiful project!
Oh gosh, also…I hate to ask you this because I know you are so so busy. But, if you have a spare moment, would it be possible for you to change the link you have to my blog from Garden Painter Art to my new blog Gerushia’s New World. http://gerushiasnewworld.blogspot.com/. I actually get lots of visitors coming in from A Fanciful Twist, but they go to my old blog.
Thank you thank you so much:

  38. kate says:

Yay, yarn! The bread looks amazing, I wish photos could capture divine smells as well.
You and Mister Lovee definitely need to make more silly vidoes, the last one was great. I giggled through the whole thing.

  39. sadira says:

Scarf…blanket…enchilada wrap…really, what’s the difference? It’s beautiful whatever it morphs into…and my GG got us all Slankets this year, and I get seriously sad when I go to someones house and don’t have it with me…

  40. m says:

    yes more videos please!
give the doggie’s a part too!

  41. Shell says:

I loved that video, I could never disown you!!!
Seriously, can I have that blanket. It is beautiful. Mabel, my cat, and I can wrap ourselves up in. We are going to need it with the frigid weather coming over tomorrow.
The bread looks delish. The flower crochets are lovely. I can see them adorning my hair.
I am forever wanting all the goodies you create and bake.
    Love to you Lady V.

When I saw your blanket and your yummy bread I thought of the movie “Like Water for Chocolate”
I adore all the colors in you blanket…are you using a pattern?
Wow!!! that is a lot of photos…you are 41,029 ahead of me…I would be totally confused…I delete a lot 🙂

  45. My sister said the same thing about Like water for Chocolate No –
no pattern, that is way too intellectual for me 😉 I am just winging it
and inventing different stitches as I go.I cant follow patterns or
instructions, my brain wont accept them, no matter how hard I
    try:)) Isnt that funny?

  46. Jen Singh says:

So delightful, wonderful colors for a cold, wintry day!

  47. Gillian says:

If you quit now, it would be a darn shame. Please don’t. You absolutely made my night the other night with your hilarity. I do adore the both of you and you make me laugh so hard. Keep up the video productions!!! The sillier the better too.
Oh I love the LOOK of that bread. It is a masterpiece of braidwork. And don’t even get me started on that crocheted blanket. I nearly cried when you talk of crocheting because I’ve lost so many dear women who used to crochet and knit and it brought them back to me in a flash…. 😀 (That is good, I love crying and I love them so don’t worry.)
And wow, you have so many talents you must be bustin’ at the seams! Yes!!! Raspberry jam, butter and bread=bliss. So true! Love your math 😀
and now, to go watch my own oven. . .I’m making a yummy salmon, wild mushroom & asparagus casserole for the family for dinner tomorrow so they don’t starve while I’m at work…it reheats perfectly too, maybe you could “cyber” us a loaf of that bread to go with it….just sayin’!!!! xoxoxo

  48. waterrose says:

Oh that blanket looks like so much fun. It certainly looks like a cold winter endeavor!

  49. kj says:

You are also best at spreading magic.
    Love Renee xoxo

  53. Michelle says:

First of all you guys are too cute! And oh I am soooo excited! I have been looking and looking for a good challah recipe for years! I had one I loved but somehow I transcribed it into my recipe book wrong and it has never been right. Something about the amount of eggs is wrong. So I can hardly wait for your! I am obsessed with yarn right now too. I think everyone I know has received a scarf. It is just such cheap therapy! Really helps me relax while I watch tv. What shows are you watching lately? We just started Mad Men, the clothes are great fun to watch. Happy Day!

  54. I love all the colors you are using for your blanket. Something I have yet to learn is to knit or crochet…..my Mom wanted to teach me but for some reason we never got around to it!
I swear I could smell that bread….it’s weird I know but I’m serious. I am a breadaholic and my mouth just started watering. Great job!
Oh and the video was fantastic!
