This post is for the love of seasons.
And for all those tender hearted, kindred season lovers, out there.
Don’t I sound like an 80’s radio disc jockey?
I do love seasons.
Each so different and lovely in their own way.
The other day a blinding sunset poured through golden peach leaves.
It almost knocked me off my feet.
Took my breath away.
I had to run and get my camera.
I stood in it, for a long time.
Until it finally faded.
It was spectacular.
I am loving our autumn.
Confused and slow.
Like a baby or a puppy just waking up from a nap.
The pecan tree drops leaves as you stand under it, almost like a created scene in a movie.
Leaves on 4, action!
I collect pecans.
I eat some, put some in my basket.
The green pods the nuts live in smell like a faint combination of amaretto and eucalyptus.
I sniff and sniff.
Collecting as I go.
We climb trees trying to reach some.
I stroll around our little parcel of earth.
It feels so different with the golds and reds dancing about.
Climbing roses frame my little window just perfectly.
I whip around the garden path, marveling at the apricot tree.
This afternoon on my walk around the garden, the tree was set against pink sunset mountains.
I gasped.
No time to get the camera though.
I collect this and that from the garden floor.
Morning glory leaves, like hearts, now golden too.
I stand outside the garden.
Poor arbor wonky from monsoon rains, begging to be repaired.
New posts needed, and in our possession, now to just put them in.
The apricot tree in the backdrop, looking much like a 70’s wallpaper mural.
Remember those?
I check on Brussels sprouts.
The only one the gophers didn’t gobble.
And boy is it huge.
Little sprouts are now filling the trunk.
Yumm.
Leaves meld in colors of summer to fall.
Almost there.
Almost.
A peach tree volunteer grew huge in the vegetable garden this summer.
Giving its own autumnal show.
I think I even see Pantone’s 2015 color of the year, Marsala, in there.
Even the dry zinnias make me happy.
I keep my eye out for 4 leaf clovers.
And notice how I can barely see my stars anymore.
The wisteria that crawls up the front porch is golden too.
Leaves almost all gone.
It was so heavy and full of leaves, now scattered all around the flower garden.
As rain droplets come for a visit.
Just in time to take the rest of the leaves off some of the trees.
Winter looms.
17 more days or so?
Poor tattered rose.
Pretty still though.
Droplets like gems.
As I set out to get all my collected seeds, and some leftover seeds from last year, strewn about.
I wait for the late fall rains to let me know when it is time to scatter seeds for next spring.
I do.
All done.
It’s cold in the desert, and so wet.
My hair gets….
Extra extra fluffer nutter.
My sister says I look like Sammy Hagar when I wear my hair like this.
Basically, naturally air dried, and extra fluffy if it’s a tinge humid.
We always laugh about it.
Sammy Hagar, are you my mother?
Hee hee!!
I have been painting up a storm.
I plan to have little faces to share soon.
I’ve been sharing a few snippets and tiny videos on instagram here.
I have not been decorating much yet for the holidays in the living and dining rooms.
It looks much like this right now.
I best get my act together, I am soooo slow!
When did I get so slow at doing such things?
Too many pots and not enough hands me thinks.
Hopefully my next post will bring fresh little clay faces.
What are you up to?
Looove, V

So beautiful! I love your gardens and the display on the mantel. I saw the pecan groves when I went down to Tucson last weekend. Today, we had rain too. My citrus is almost ready, and I have lots of cherry tomatoes, but they are not red yet. The leaves changed last week.
*SIGH* – it’s so pretty there. I love the fall color change and that’s the one season I miss the most while living in Florida. Side note, your curly, wild hair is like a Blonde version of Merida from “Brave” – just fabulous!
It is just such a pleasure to read your words and see all your beautiful photos!!
Your posts are like cotton candy for my heart, light and fluffy and full of deliciousness. 🙂 Thank you for uplifting my Northern spirits with your Arizonean warmth.
Any time I need a reminder to slow down and see the beauty around me, all I need to do is visit you.
Although it sounds like life may be a whirlwind for you at times too!
Pastel pinks and blue winter lands.
Snowflake cuttings hanging from strands.
Pinecone trees in sparkles and light.
Stones, bones and crystals, shells in flight.
Purples dancing holding hands,
While aqua shimmers and silently fans.
Squealing while prancing the puddle jump,
Jazzy music hearts going thump.
I’m a little bird by your ear,
Those whispering winds that the true of heart hear.
Ahhh pre-seasonal cheer.
What wonderful colours. I especially love the pictures of the roses on your mantel and that glorious apricot tree (and the peach tree, and the sunset… and…).
Hey, I remember those wallpaper murals! My Grandma had one of an Italian cityscape – sort of like Portofino – up on one of her walls, and I used to love it. I would sit on her couch and imagine I was there, in the old city, and could wander down the cliff-side walkways and into the old houses. Haven’t thought about that in some time. 🙂
Thank you for such a peaceful, reflective, autumn-tinted post – lovely.
Oh sigh… Your photos are so lovely. -more happy sighs-
And I wish I had your hair! Naturally. I am trying to make-believe I do…. With a perm. And sometimes, it actually comes out, looking as if I am a natural “Curly Girl.”
But… I know I’m not. I know I am just making believe. 🙂
But even that, is fun. 🙂
Embrace your own totally natural Curly Girl!!!!!!
Gentle hugs,
Tessa~
I love autumn, as well, sis! I love the change of colors. I really never had an autumn, with the turning of the leaves until I lived in Albuquerque. Being it that you live north of Tucson, I never got to see what you see, but in Albuquerque it was so beautiful to go down to the river and stare at the leaves, the muted greens, yellows, and then the vibrant burgundy of everything… and with the glimmer of sun light peaking through, it’s such a beautiful experience.
Sammy Hagar hair!!! Haha. I mean, you hair is better than his, because I think he has tight curls, and yours is more Disney Princess perfection. I feel like I got shafted. You and our brother have this fantastic curl, and when it rains I look like I got my hair stuck in the wrong end of the blow dryer. herrrumpfff!
Ohhhhh to have that gorgeous hair!! I think it’s extra lovely like that!
Sigh…if I could, I would build a little tent in the back of your garden and hide there for the rest of my days. Walking under those trees and arbors. Watching the leaves fall, and the sun rise and set. Peeking at all your beautiful flowers and of course those magical pumpkins! (I’d help with chores too!)
love & blessings
~*~
ps…hugs & kisses to Matty and Miles
pps…how do you get your fruit/nuts from the tops of the trees, do you really climb up in there? 🙂
I love your Sammy Hagar hair 🙂 The more humid it gets the more wavy mine gets.
Love all the beautiful pictures. Our leaves are mostly gone. Beautiful while they lasted. We have had days of cloudy, gray skies. I am ready for some sunshine. It makes it start getting dark around 5. But that is good cause I turn on the Christmas tree lights to light the living room
Oooo! Fun! Fresh little clay faces in the making! Yay!
I do love Autumn so very much. The crisp air, the smell of crushed leaves in the palm of my hand. Those Autumn fragrances which are so heady…like you said about the pecans, such a heady aroma.
Beautiful photos, Vanessa!
I love your clear, glass bottles full of roses. Our roses are still blooming at both of our houses. I need to ‘root’ some of the roses from the garden at Laurewood when it is January and plant them at our ‘cozy’ family home. I don’t know half the name of the roses, but there is such an abundance of glorious colors from the dusky purple to the vibrant coral colors. Probably ‘Peace’ and ‘Love’ for sure in amongst the names.
lots of hugs and love,
Miss Teresa
Just thought I would drop by to see what You are up to.You are always entertaining to visit and I wanted to wish You a very merry and blessed Christmas.
your photos are so wise–it seems so are you
Oh but your fall is gorgeous!
Love the fluffy hair too.
Such another lovely post, Vanessa Hagar, hehehehe…. My hair does that too, although mine is shorter and is a HUGE puff ball! hehehehe….. 😉 xo Jen
Hi Sammy Hagar!
I officially ended my semester and finally got a chance to pick up my package at the P.O. as they had it under lock and key during civilized daylight hours which I have seen little of over the last 16 weeks! My beautiful sparkly shoes! What joy! They fit me perfectly and I cherish them! They are so special to me and will be with me as I take new journeys in 2015!! Thank you again for these special gems!
XO,
Susan Alexander
Love this gorgeous post. In Hawaii, we did, believe it or not, feel the change of the seasons, but it wasn’t as obvious, of course. And now we’re in Florida, and it’s nothing like, say, the midwest, but it’s very noticeable compared to the islands, so it’s a real treat for us. I love your luscious descriptions — I can not only see these scenes, but I can feel them, and instantly I am transported. Thank you for doing that for all of us. That apricot tree! I never can get over it. And I got a big laugh over your flutter-nutter hair — but I’m with your sister, in that mine (especially in this Florida humidity) looks like it got sucked into the hair dryer and frizzified! 😮 [I knew I was behind on your blog because of my health break, but not by this much! I think it’s because I kept reading and commenting on your Instagram. But so great to finally be back here, and I’m starting with the old and working my way up. 🙂 ]
