Lovely Little Things

What a lovely heart filled weekend it was.

Baking and making galore.

Sweet treat 2

Sharing with friends and even some people I didn't know.

Sweet treat 3

Everyone enjoyed the treats, which made it extra fun to have made them.

Sweet treat 1

I have been making these linzer cookies every year for almost 16 years now.

(here is a recipe I have used that is delicious)

A fun tradition of my very own.

Sweet treat 9

Butter cream yumm.

Sweet treat 4

They look so fancy but really are so easy to assemble.

Sweet treat 5

I use raspberry jam instead of strawberry.

Sweet treat 6

And voila.

Pretty treats to share.

Sweet treat 10

I just love making these.

Warms my heart.

Sweet treat 8

It was such a fun weekend.

Doing all manner of things.

It got very warm so a lot of garden was involved.

A new arbor made by Mister Lovee.

Trimming fruit trees.

I received oooooodles of treats from my parents too.

Fun fun fun!

Sweet treat 12

I love being an adult kid.

It's the best.

I took these to Mister Lovee's Friday night gig.

Sweet treat 15

Beer and treats were eaten like mad.

Neither by me.

What a fuddy duddy, I know.

But I did do some card tricks.

Sweet treat 16

As I was taking pictures a little head photo bombed my pics.

Sweet treat 14

You see, this little sneaky fur (Matty) loves sweets.

Don't worry, he doesn't get them often at all.

But he looooves them.

He loves sweets and fish.

His brother Miles hates sweets and fish and prefers veggies and potatoes.

Which Matty loathes.

Funny little eaters.

They both love chicken and meat.

Even dogs are like little children.

Finicky.

But soooo sweet.

Sweet treat 13

This one stole chocolates as a baby and scared his mama, but he just got hyper in the end.

Then he stole a GIANT cupcake I was using in a photo shoot when he was little too.

So, it seems those things created a sweet tooth.

While I was baking he just stood at the corner of the stove staring into the oven.

Poor little guy, haha!

Now he wants chocolate pink candies.

Sweet treat 17

Maybe he's sweet after all?

He's sweet to me on his own terms at least.

So, I guess that's good?

Sweet treat 18

At least he doesn't eat my dried flowers.

Don't you just love dried flowers?

Sweet treat 19

And after all those treats….

We gobbled up all of our Brussels sprouts from the garden.

Sweet treat 20

A little olive oil, some slivered almonds, craisins, garlic salt and a hearty splash of balsamic.

Delish!

Sweet treat 21

Oh and someone took a bath.

Sweet treat 22

Random tid-bits, I know.

But that is how Valentine's day goes down around here, haha!

CHOMP!

Sweet treat 11

 I took a luxurious bath.

Took 3 hours to get ready.

Did my nails.

Went shopping late at night with ML.

Enjoyed bouquets of balloons.

Ran around the yard with them.

Gave away all the sweets.

Played music really loud.

Watched a scary movie.

Washed all my bedding.

Spent too much time in bed enjoying the coziness.

Danced.

Cried.

Laughed.

Sang.

All the things I like to do on my very me Valentine's day.

A me me me day.

How about you?

Any fun things you did?

I requested some love songs at the Friday gig.

I got Only You and Mexican Moon.

It was fab.

And then Monday is here again.

It's spring weather, hope it lasts.

So what should we do next?

I've been splashing around paint.

But we need something extra fun, don't you think?

Any ideas?

Love, V

Sparkly heart

ps:  Here's a link to that cookie recipe again, in case you missed it in the post but wanted it.

I do love reading your posts–those adorable photos of your dog with the big brown eyes gazing adoringly at all those sweets!! Enjoy your wonderful warm weather–we have at least 6 inches of snow where i live–I know nothing like the east coast but still..would like to be in a warm garden.

  2. Jane says:

What a lovely Valentine’s Day! Thank you for letting us print some of your specail valentines! I sent them to my two daughters – the one with the pink cat!

  3. Laura Tieri says:

All your treats look yummy! I like the way you fancied up the cupcakes! Matty looks like such a tortured soul wanting those sweets!
It was a lovely weekend for me too! I started Sat. off with heart shaped chocolate chip pancakes!
Most of the day was spent baking treats for church refreshments on Sunday. My friends & I did a Valentine theme.
The table looked so fun with all of our pink & red goodies and some heart decorations. There wasn’t a crumb left!
We are signed up to do treats for Easter next. We usually go all out for that! There are so many cute things you can make for Easter!
I’d so love to feel the heat in Arizona right about now! We still have a lot of snow & very, very cold temps. coming up. Maybe record lows mid-week. I am so ready for Spring!!!!!!!!

  4. Marjorie says:

Oh happy happy happy (and belated) Valentines Day to my sweetest, loveliest and most magical friend!! We are awaiting a big snow!! The first of the season….and my little one can hardly wait…..nor can I ! Tee hee!! Hooray for snow and hooray for visiting your beautiful blog and seeing all the prettiness you toss in flower-strewn handfuls to the world!! Sweet wishes for your day Miss!! : )

  5. Cori G. says:

Happy Belated V-Day, my beloved Fanciful Friendling!! I just had a thought…did you ever think V-Day stood for Vanessa-Day? But of course it would make perfect sense since you are the sweetest adult little Girlyfriend I know! Therefore, from here on out Valentine’s Day will be recognized as Vanessa Day…heeheeheeheehee!
I must say that your lovely little Linzers look lucious. I tried a recipe from Victorian magazine, so many moons ago, but my dough kept crumbling to pieces. Heart broken was I and never tried the recipe again. Maybe I will try yours :-))). Any secret tips to making them stress free?
Must run for now, but before I go I must tell you that, “I heart you, Vanessa Valencia!!”
    Toodles!
    Love, me

  6. jeanie says:

Sounds divine and full of love. Sigh. I, too, did cookies but I love your linzers and copied the recipe. And butter cream. Indeed, to die for. That’s the same raspberry jam I use all the time — isn’t it the best? When I was in Paris they had a citron which I haven’t been able to find in the states or Canada. Sigh. I love my lemon but raspberry is next best!
It is all gorgeous! Like a frothy fairy tale, a true confection! Sounds lovely in every single way!

  7. I was giggling about Matty and him loving to eat sweets, with his growly disposition. And funny how Miles likes the opposite…just like siblings!
My dad used to bring home those kind of cookies when I was a very little girl, and my mother would keep them ‘hidden’ in a drawer in the kitchen, but I would ‘sneak’ them anyway…especially with the raspberry jam kind! Your cookies look yummy and divine. What a lovely Valentine’s Day weekend you had. Thank you for sharing all of this fun stuff!
    lots of love!
    Miss Teresa

  8. Misha/DawaiOser says:

Your cookies look delicious. Yum! I am a freak for anything with raspberry and if you pair that with lemon, forget it – I’ll eat nothing else. I adore that combo.
I bought Sean a bag of gourmet coffee and two flavors of chocolate truffles for Valentines Day: milk chocolate filled with white chocolate creme and dark chocolate filled with raspberry. He liked both but lucky (for me?) that the white chocolate creme is his fave, lol. ‘;)

  9. Sooooooo beautiful, dreamy and delicious!
Same with thedogs, excepting the delicious but!

  10. Aaron Maiolo says:

You have an amazing talent for creating beautiful foods!

  11. Oh my goodness, you have stunning seasons, but I’m not sure I could handle the cold. I think I’ve morphed into a desert lizard as I’ve gotten older. But I would loooove to be where you are when the leaves change, how beautiful!

  12. Oh yay Jane, that makes me soooo happy!!

  13. Its quite chilly in the shade and evening, but the sun is glorious. Oh I loooove all your goodie making. Baking for people is a true pleasure! Love it!

  14. Oh I do hope you and little miss got to play in gobs of white fluff!!! Kids looooove snow don’t they? How fun!!!

  15. Oh Coricakes!!!! Imagine, v-day!! hahahaa! People would think I went plum bonkers so that will have to be one for you and me. But what about C day? Christmas??!!??
Okay so, if the recipe is too crumbly, add a whole egg to the one egg yolk. It will change the cookie texture for sure, but they won’t crumble. It’s a tradeoff for real shortbread, but a good one 😉
    xoxox

  16. Ooooo citron, yumm yummmm!!

  17. I loooooove that!! Sneaking treats is the bestest!! <3

  18. Oh yes, actually, I was thinking for the buttercream some lemon zest would be divine!!! Yuuuums xoxo

  19. Oh Laura, you are so funny!!! <3 <3

  20. Cori G. says:

Excellent idea about the egg Vanessa. Me thinks me will give those cookies another whirl. Today I’ll be making more of those yummy little mushroom cookies…oh yay!,
    X’s and 0’s

  21. Michelle Lindquist says:

Funny little eaters, indeed! I am QUITE amused over hearing of your fur boys’ differing palates — too, too funny! And pooooor, long-suffering, sweets-deprived (most of the time) Matty!!! His face says it all, and bless his heart, he just wants, Mama, he just WANTS!!! I’m glad you indulge him sometimes — no chocolate, though, as you know! Your Valentine’s Day sounded lovely, and I love that you make it such a special day of love for yourself. And beeeeautiful cookies! I will absolutely make those sometime, and definitely with raspberry jam. 🙂
