Little Inspirations…

One of the things that I look at the most in my house, is my mood board.  I look at it a lot.  It sits on the wall, to the left of my computer screen.  This means, I look up at it incredibly often.  For two years or more, it has looked the same, except for an addition here and there.  What I like to look at, often stays the same for a really long time.  But every so often, tinges of what inspires me, change.  And so, it was time to take everything off of the mood board I shared a while back, and begin again…

Faces that I like to look at, bits and bobs that I love, begin to get added.

Mood board 14

Tiny changes reflect my thoughts and feel.

Little pieces of this and that, inspire me to remember ideas I have.

Where I am in my mind at this time, gets tucked into my mood board.

Things such as colors and textures.

Amazing how trinkets can bring up so much.

Feelings…

Feelings that evoke feelings.

Mood board 2

But first, I had to take most everything off of my mood board, as you can see below.

The board is actually a cork pin board, that I cut the edging off of, and screwed to my wall.

It is screwed into wooden studs in the wall, so there is no chance of it falling down, no matter what I attach to it.

Mood board 1

So, after I took everything off except for the old papers, I started putting pieces back up.  Adding new things, dusting everything, moving things around…

Mood board 5

I have certain little magazine clippings that I collaged years ago – that I love to look at (which I used).

I also have some catalogue pages from Anthroplogie, from what is to date, one of my fave years of their style – 2005.

Then there are pictures and medals and all sorts of things I love to look at, that get tacked up…

Mood board 9

My colors in my heart are pink and light teal/sea foam green.

I love the birthday tag below that Jamie made, which I picked up from her shop.  Just a glance at it reminds me of a tea party, and frills and poofs and tea cups and laughs.

Exactly what a mood board should do, right?

Make you feel good and happy and inspired?

Mood board 10

Of course, we are all inspired by vastly different things.

Which is why making your very own mood board is such a grand idea.

Mood board 12

Do you have a mood board already?

An inspiration board?

If not, I highly recommend it.

It's a perfect spot for all the nonsense you love, that makes you feel good.

That's all.

Mood board 7

Colors, patterns, messages, designs…

Mood board 6

For me, the tiniest little background details, where colors meet and flights of flowers peek out, are the most special little spots.

Mood board 13

A couple of postcards and greeting cards that I love get tacked up.

A wacky earring whose color delights me.

Some paper flowers…

(I adore the charming notecard below from Betty, sent to me years ago)

Mood board 8

And, voila.

Done.

Fresh inspiration.

Some old friends stay, as I am not "great" at change.

But a proper little freshen up for your mood board, oh so much fun!

Mood board 3

Over the months and years, things will change and move, and come and go…

Always following the flow of your mood, and what inspires you at the time.

Mood board 4

I am just crazy about mood boards.

You can call them whatever you want really.

Inspiration boards.

Trinket boards.

Whatever the case, I love them.

And, I love looking at them too.

If you happen to have a board of your own that you would like to share, feel free to post a link within comments.  I would love to peek, as I am sure others would too.

I looooove looking at creature collections.

Love, V

A sparkly heart

  1. OOOooooOOooo me loves! Big crazy love 🖤🖤🖤 It just…looks like…your heart, on the inside. My New Age Hippie, you find the best stuff! Did you raid my Granny’s attic??? teehee! **kisskiss** Deb

  2. I love your mood board! I don’t have one, but I would like to create one. Sometimes if I don’t see things that inspire me, I start to lose inspiration.

  3. Wonderful mood board! I don’t have one but it sounds like a spendid idea. I’m forever saving bits and bobs that strike my fancy and a mood board would be a wonderful way to get them out and parade them about.
    Have a great day.
    Always, Queenie

Half of my wall use to be a revolving mood board. Then hubby and baby came and things changed. Once we move to a bigger space..I like to do a mood board again.

I need to get myself a cork board and start decorating it! That would be just perfect in my room 🙂 I love creating collages of pretty images, which I do on the computer for fun, but having something substantial–something you can physically rearrange and move around–cannot be replaced. You’ve definitely inspired me to get my own mood board started 🙂 Now where to put it…the walls of my room are covered in paintings, (some done by myself, some from friends, and others from stores) so finding a spot might be tough. But worth it!
I even made one of your woodland chandeliers to hand over my book nook! It’s not exactly like yours, though. I found some old white tulle from my mom’s closet and wrapped that around a hanger that I bent into a circular shape. I then tied four ribbon strands around the hanger to hang from the ceiling and proceeded to attach little knick knacks and goodies. I have a few cupcake ornaments from Christmas hanging up there and a few stars, moons, and ribbons to complete the look. I also included my Yule Ball ornament. :)) P.S. I saw your new post over at Through the Secret Keyhole! Thanks so much for doing that, it was so inspiring 🙂

Sending you a more detailed e-mail about my exhaustion now….wheeeeeee….
    Big hugs,

  9. Ning says:

Hi Miss Vanessa! I love your mood board! It is so colourful and pretty! Your arts and inspirations are very similar to my art teacher that I am currently attending. So feminine and pretty and yet so precociously mystical! Ning : )

  10. Ning says:

P.S. I’ve posted my simple mood board too. Thank you for sharing yours and for asking to share ours! Ning : )

  11. Your mood board is very intriguing, Miss Vanessa.
There is much depth of character in everything you have chosen…and lots of romantically embellished fanciful whimsies just like your sweet self! I’m thinking of making a small shadow style box to hang on my wall full of trinkets and scraps of fabric from dresses my mother made for me as a child, and old black and white photos of our family growing up.
Oh, and I did find the photo album which I thought was ‘lost’…you can’t miss the cover as it has a peacock on it and was from one of my best friends when I turned 16…so it was a dear treasure to my heart as she is now in heaven…an untimely passing. There are things which have such special memories to us that only we can treasure, like the scrap of fabric with hearts on it my mother made a dress for me in first grade for Valentine’s day…or I may use that fabric on one of my dolls for a dress.
Hope you are having a lovely spring!
    hugs,
    Miss Teresa
I will let you know when I post photos of my son’s wedding. Smiles 😉

I love your mood board! I did something like this but in my computer, I guess it’s more fun on the wall! I will try it. Thank you for inspiration!
    Have a great day!

  13. Fun and inspiring is what they are.I need to freshen mine up,or just buy a new one because I really don’t like to change whats up very often. That would be a good idea for a blog party.I would love to see everyone’s board.

Paragraph writing is also a fun, if you know after that you can write or else it is difficult
    to write.

i have been doing vision boards for years, and I have seen things I only dreamed about materialize in my life. Some very HUGE things. (and I have also learned to be careful what I wish for)
Now I do some digital dreaming.

I found a website I thought you might like. It references Merriwether’s Guide to Edible Wild Plants, primarily in warmer southern states.

  17. Hey Miss V!
I have a mood board, but I’m getting no love from it. However, I have loads of days off this week and next, and I intend to make it fabulous. Thanks for the inspiration!

  18. Sarah says:

    Hi Vanessa,
It is strange, but only the day before I read your post-now the day before the day before, I was wondering why I didin’t have a mood board-and came to two conclusions-one that I was never sure what is meant to go on them, and two, theat the whole flat is like one giant mood board as there are inspiring things all over the place. But then,as I looked at your lovely board, and read your words, something clicked, and the piece of black foam board, that I bought a while ago thinking maybe it could be a mini mood board-if I ever worked out what to put on it, was put to use! I just whipped around the house, and picked up the most recent little bits and pieces with no real home, but that I am enjoying recently, and there was my mood board!
Here is a link if you would like a look!
    Thanks for the inspiration!

I love your mood board and yes it is inspirational. There are so many wonderous things to look at. Each time you look, you see something different.
    Thanks for sharing.

  21. I love mood boards–yours is gorgeous. I keep a bunch of inspiration notebooks, too. Some of them are themed—holiday, decorating, etc. Hmmmm……Pinterest is a new addiction, mainly because it’s such a virtual mood board, you know?
Hey–one thing I’ve noticed is that I am heavily influenced (but apparently subconciously) by the colors around me. In retrospect, I’ve noticed that my paintings from any given time period are highly affected by the colors around me in my studio. For example, I had a bunch of red fabric hanging from the ceiling a few years back. Then I noticed almost all the painting from that time had a ton of red in them.

  22. Kelly Deal says:

What a lovely mood board! I would love to make one myself, but it’s just one more thing to add to the create list. Thanks for sharing!

  23. Jenn says:

Jessica and I have now been plotting buying ourselves massive corkboards to fill with loveliness 🙂 You’re a wonderful influence I must say.
I actually want to create a vision board, like the power of attraction sort of thing. Fill it with everything I want in life, being very specific. Beautiful houses, puppies, kittens, art, gardens, nice friends. Haha, I have very wholesome wishes. And then they’ll be attracted to me. What do you think? This reminded me of that a lot 🙂

  24. Kelly says:

Ok, Missy V, it got me! I caught the inspiration board bug!!! I went and found a small board and then this summer I imagine it will Spread! I plan to work on it, this weekend. I first, must finish a wristlet corsage for this week’s prom for my eldest son. I already have some pretties I have collected that would look just great on it!
This board creation reminds me of when I decorated my bedroom door when I was younger living with my parents. I sooo loved doing it and YES, redoing it as the the moods of new inspirations inspired me. This is good therapy too, cuz it takes my mind off the Arizona heat! YIKES! Hope your week is going well! ; )

  28. pixie says:

Lovely…you have THE BEST sparkly jewels. I keep my eyes open for similar when I go to thrift stores hoping to discover some sparkly, vintage goodness.

  29. Miss Pixie, also – antique stores have the bestest old jewelry. Some
of it isnt a huge steal, but it is a treasure to have….. Although I am always
scared to wear and lose my most treasured pieces 🙂

  30. Laura, you are so right. It is so easy to just subconsciously delve
into the colors that surround you— sometimes without even realizing
it…. One can only imagine the treasures you have tucked away for that
ridiculously glorious studio of yours!!! OH YUM!!! xoxo

  31. Theresa says:

Your inspiration board is SOOOO lovely, Vanessa! It has such a lovely feminine, vintage feel to it. 🙂 I have an inspiration table (actually a countertop…filled with things that make me happy…like bits from nature and faeries and faux flowers. I made a dream board recently, but I don’t have a link to it. One of my dreams on there is actually coming true…they do work! I also have a very special inspiration – a well preserved monarch butterfly that I carefully placed inside a shadow box. It was found several years ago, pristinely gorgeous inside a box, which I carefully brought home with me. It has been my muse ever since. 🙂

  32. Thank you for posting this. It’s exactly what I was looking for!
