Little Bird

I know I was here just a few hours ago…

Little bird 1

But, I have something to tell you, you see…

There's a little bird, hanging out in the trees.

Little bird 3

I was delighted to see him, and twirled with glee…

But now I'm sort of worried about him, fretting about, oh my, oh me

Little bird 4

Is he someones beloved, who accidentally got set free?

This isn't the tropics, or a place where creatures roam free, such as he…

Little bird 2

Thanks heavens there are water sources in the garden, as he seems grateful as grateful can be.  The bird baths are full, but he seems to be attracted to the water the doggies jump in all day.

What a sweetie!

Little bird 6

He is rather trusting and friendly too…

Little bird 9

Maybe I could make him a great big house?

And we could be good friends?

But, he'd have to be careful with Matty, because he jumps higher than anyone can believe, and loves to chase birdies, oh jeez!

Little bird 8

For now I'll just check on him every 5 seconds.

Little bird 7

And maybe, just maybe, if I listen hard enough - he might be carrying a message?

Little bird 5

Let's all hope he makes it wherever he needs to be safe and sound.

Will you help me do that?

Perhaps, he might even find his way back home.

I am such a wimp, I feel sorry for him.

Off to see what's he's up to…

A Sparkly Heart see you soon

  1. Terry says:

He is so pretty! When I lived in Phoenix I saw a cockatiel near where I worked but I couldn’t get close to it.

  2. Tara says:

    Oh Vanessa!
    You’ve got yourself a budgerigar !!
They’re extremely loving and warm birds. I do hope he can take care of himself. Maybe a bird house is a good idea. They’re easy prey for eagles and the like. I used to keep them.. but then felt bad for putting winged creatures in a cage. God meant them to fly free. 🙂
P.s: I wonder if he would ( out of habit) climb into a cage bird house. Maybe he would feel safer? I love them. They’re the friendliest ever! And so trusting.
    I’m rambling! :0

  3. Shinpai says:

    Oh My!!!
You are the sweetest lady, you truly are! I would consider perhaps a little house for him, and a small plot to capture him. His party outfit makes him too easy to spy for critters needing a snack! He surely managed to Houdini himself from what we can hope was the loving care of someone, but now has hopes that a soul such as yours has found him and will care for him.
    Good luck!!

  4. Cori G. says:

Oh CATCH HIM VANESSA!!!!!!!! Do you have a spare cage? Just place some food in a little dish and leave the door open…maybe he’ll fly in. Now I’M GOING TO BE AN EMOTIONAL MESS AND FEARFUL FOR HIS LITTLE LIFE. I had a sweet little bunny who made my garden her home, but whilst I was biding my time in capturing her, she was captured by something else. My heart cried for her for weeks on end. I barely had time to get to know my new little friend. Then she was gone ;-(.

  5. Cori G. says:

On a happier note, I once had a little budgie who looked identical to your new little friend. Her name was “Bean Bean Fumunga Beak”…hee hee! When I adopted her she had a little fungus on her nose that rapidly spread to her new best friend “Wee Leepy.” But neither of them seemed to mind and it was easily cured with a daily application of Vaseline. Oh the bird stories I could share with you 😉

  6. Carrie says:

Awwww, what a cute lil’ fella!!!! Catch him and stick him in the gyspy cage!!!!!
Plzzz let us all know how he’s doing!

  7. Liz says:

EEK! I hope you can catch him, they don’t last long in the wild. When I was a kid we caught a budgie who had landed on our lawn in a laundry hamper. He looks like a very sweet little guy.

  8. I had a budgie that looked just like him when I was a little girl… except he was a she as we discovered when Joey laid an egg!

  9. Oh-kay, I’m wishing good luck wishes for your soil and for your little birdie too,
sheeesh, this Vanessa girl is a lot of work 😉
    😀
Seriously though – I have a lot of good vibes right now, even some to spare ~ ~

  10. Kathy says:

Oh! I’m guessing he “flew the coop” so to speak. Keep an eye on him and good luck catching him. Although now that he’s tasted freedom I can’t imagine he’d be happy in a cage. Lucky you! I think he’s a good luck omen. Cheers – Kathy

  11. FawnDear says:

I’m loving your new feathered friend. I’ve a similar predicatment with a little fawn that keeps visiting. A little bird would be so much easier to worry about. Oh, and the secret’s he might tell…What a magical treat.
    Tootles,
    FawnDear

  12. Renee says:

I hope he finds his way home or you can entice him into a cage. He needs to be taken care of.

  13. Theresa says:

What a sweet tweetie! I’m so happy – that should he be lost – that he found his way to YOU! For I know, you shall care for him as you can. He is quite the beauty – and I shall carry him in my thoughts that he stay safe and sound. xoxo Theresa

  14. Jill James says:

When we lived in Florida, a parakeet was on our bedroom balcony railing – in the pouring rain – I opened the sliding door & he came in. I named him P.D. (for poop dropper). He lived 3 more years with me before he died……
Try hanging a millet spray for him….

  15. Miss Lori says:

Aww he’s so cute! I’m so happy you’re looking out for him!

  16. He knew where to come to be safe until he can figure out his way home! How pretty he is! 🖤

  17. Kim says:

I am glad he found you, you found him, and I found your beautiful blog..
I am just in awe of how beautiful everything here is….
I am a believer of birds carrying messages. He might have a little message for you. I hope you can get him and bring him in and keep him warm in the cool nights..
    So glad I found you.
    Take care,
    Kim

  18. April Cole says:

    Oh… such sweetness!
Your new found friends are delightful.
    Thank you for sharing :]

  19. Linda Diane says:

Oh, Miss V., I know what it is like to worry about little creatures in the out of doors. He is a beauty and such a little cutie pie. Maybe it’s time to put a bell on Miles the high jumper? :0

  20. Linda Diane says:

Oops. Make that Matty the high jumper. Hmmm. Maybe Miles needs a bell, too, though, because you may not yet know his full jumping potential . . . .

  21. Yes, V catch him, catch him…I’ll bet he would love to be your new feathery friend 😉 I had a bird that looked just like him growing up, so sweet and loved to sit on my shoulder.
    Jamie 🙂

  22. Kelly says:

Hope you are doing OK with your new visitor! How is your unexpected guest? Hope that u are enjoying the visit and not fretting
too much. Good luck Vanessa, what ever you do. Your pictures are just beautiful. This birdie is just tweet!

  23. Hunnybee says:

Vanessa, please keep us posted on your Green fellow. Parakeets are very smart and wily and skittish, so if he was a pet, he may be curious about you. If he’s wild, he may just be wiling the time in your beautiful garden. We use to have a flock of loud parrots that flew by our house every morning around 7:30. They were beautiful to see, but they made a lot of noise. We have 2 Green parakeets as pets right now, and they are very loud as well. I love your blog, your stories, your photos and your fur babies! Thanks for being so captivating!

  24. I agree with the comments above: try to put him in a cage. A big one!
Maybe with some bird peanuts? There are plenty of birds around my house and they love these peanuts so much!Or fresh fruits maybe?
    Give it a go!
I think he knows he’s found a good home.
    Fingers crossed.

  25. Shell says:

What a sweet bird…he looks like my first Parakeet named Polly that I had. I’m sure he is just making a stopover and will be on his way. To me that little bird’s message is Spring is on it’s way. Be ready.

  26. Kandes says:

We have a whole flock of parakeets that roam wild in Mesa. I get so excited whenever they stop by to visit. I also thought someone’s pet was loose the first time I saw one, about 6 years ago. Then I realized there were 2, 3, 4, 5, or more birdies … so my neighbor came by and told me they have been around for years and keep coming as long as they have bird seed left out for them. :o)

  27. Nadia says:

Just found your VanessaValencia.com site. I love your whimsical, fairytale artwork! And the colors are stunning!

  28. You have a good omen, here. This is a gift. Thank goodness for little pups, bread, and blue little birdies! Thinking of you and sending smiles!

  29. JO says:

Oh my Vanessa he is beautiful … but you must … must put him in a cage… he will not last out in the wild … and is definitely prey to larger birds… or worse …
Food and some millett will probably attract him inside ….
Perhaps once you can manage to catch him you could put an ad in the paper and find the rightful owner …. if not I am sure a vet or pet store would take him … he is definitely tame …
    What a precious baby !!

  30. linnea-maria says:

Oh my my heart just crimps, eek it hurts. It looks just like my bird Manne who flew away when a cat jumped up on his cage. I had him for 12 years. It was a very long time ago but i still miss him so much. I had him flying free in my room and we were always together. He learned to talk a bit. Take care of this gorgeous little fellow. Wishing luck /Therese

  31. Nan says:

In your oh so very kind way, if you can, bring him indoors…this little guy has no place running amok as he is!
I have a bit of a similar problem. A wee family of birds has decided to take up residence in my fireplace chimney. This does not amuse me on several counts. One…I can no longer use my fireplace (wth!)…and two…they wake up really (really!) early.
Have ya missed me?? 😉 You are never far from my thoughts my friend…no matter how long we go without speaking…you are always with me.

  32. Mo'a says:

Awww!!! he is so beautiful and probably used to people.
Hope all goes well with him…he has found a good home. xoxo

  33. He is so sweet and adorable, thank you so much for wanting to help the little guy! I truly hope he either finds his way back home or finds a nice new home with you 🙂 ~Lauren

  34. Alia says:

Oh I would feel bad for him too! (and worry lots) I am such a sucker when it comes to any kind of animal. I hope he is okay. Maybe he will stick around and adopt you? Then you can be the bestest of friends and I won’t have to worry about the cute little guy!

  35. stephanie says:

no way…you have this little tropical looking birdie visiting you!
She is gorgeous and sounds like people know this little guy.
thank you for your sweet comments…I do hope my back behaves…soon!

  36. AAHH!!!! If my baby got away I would absolutely DIE!!! Save him! Catch him and save him and put up flyers for him!!

  37. Lori Toal says:

Vanessa, thank you…your blog, this gift you share is beautiful. You are obviously a woman who is talented in so many ways and I appreciate so much how you have “stopped to smell the roses” on this journey we call life. Keep doing what you do for it is inspiring and so appreciated! I love your post about making bread, for I too make my own bread every week! When I was a little girl, I remember playing at my best friend Gillian’s and the beautiful smell of fresh bread that her mum baked filled the house… It inspired me to want to learn to do it for my children and husband so they too could have memories attached to that oh so beautiful smell! Your art is beautiful, your words inspiring! Kindest & warmest regards, Lori Toal

  38. Chris says:

Oh, it’s been so long, he’s probably gone, but do you know if he’s safe? The crows around here would target such a bright and pretty fella around here… I am a complete wimp, too. Life is precious and poignant…
I miss your little Baby, too, but luckily, I can go back to your past entries and see her any time!
