In Search of…

New inspiration, new beginnings?

In search of…

Magic?

Refueling the inspiration tank.

Inspiration days 28

Not sure how I want to look at a new year?

I long for more of a long stream of life, with ups and downs.

Not yearly slots.

Do I get that option?

My horoscope said, you’ve been busy, don’t start anything new or make any decisions until February.

Need I any more excuses to lollygag?

I find myself in my hammock, swinging, mockingbird above looking down at me.

Singing other birds’ tunes.

Drunk from the warm sun.

Changing times and thoughts.

The breeze so cool, the sun so toasty.

I carry around a stack of old letters and photos.

Other people’s memories.

Long past.

1888.

I feel little pup bodies bump under my hammock several times.

What are you doing in there?

So…

We set out…

Inspiration days 32

In search of refueling the vaults of inspiration.

I do this all the time.

Regular refueling.

The gypsy wagon gets cleaned out.

I set up an easel in the sun.

I search for the sun longingly each morning.

Days in the 70’s, nights in the 30’s.

Inspiration days 7

Fur snoops.

Inspiration days 35

I want to drink in inspiration.

Breathe it in, in dense infusions.

Feel it fill my soul.

But how?

Where is inspiration?

A whisper in the wind says, get up.

Walk outside.

Open you ears, nose and eyes.

Inspiration is everywhere.

In summer there is an abundance in the garden.

In winter, some hang on, standing out.

They hold a key…

Mint, fresh.

Breathing it in.

Slowly, my shadow that holds all my inspiration starts to stand up.

Stretching, waking.

Standing up a little straighter.

Inspiration days 9

My mind starts to flutter.

Life.

Scent, sound, breeze kisses.

Oranges.

Orange oil drips off the skin.

Its effervescence floats into the air.

Inspiration days 19

I close my eyes.

Inspiration.

Yes.

With orange in hand I stumble towards a rosemary patch.

I take a large cutting.

Inspiration days 16

Its neighbor tugs on my hem…

Inspiration days 13

So I kneel down and eat violets.

Breathing in their sweet kool-aid scent.

Like grape candy.

Inspiration days 14

I think lemon custard is on the list for sure.

Inspiration days 20

Oh lemon.

Inspiration days 21

Oranges, mint, rosemary, violets, lemons, sweet alyssum, white sage.

I am infused.

Inspiration days 8

In the sun, I peel.

Inspiration days 18

Sweet in ways I can’t describe.

Inspiration days 4

He watches.

That lover of grapefruit and oranges.

That loving handsome soul.

His kindness could melt any heart.

I see my heart in his eyes.

(it doesn’t hurt that he gives hugs when asked, putting his chin on your knee -and if you ask for a big boy hug, well, he’ll stand right up and put his arms around your neck, yummm)

Inspiration days 2

Begging, drooling.

Inspiration days 3

Okay, you can have a piece.

Bliss face.

Inspiration days 1

We hang around…

Curtains billow in the breeze.

Inspiration days 5

The mountains, a constant.

Inspiration days 6

 I read on.

Inspiration days 22

Faces…

Inspiration days 23

Times…

Inspiration days 34

Hats, places.

Inspiration days 24

Bonnets and capes.

Inspiration days 26

Tied in a pink ribbon.

A ribbon that used to belong to a blonde girl.

Of the furry variety.

Gulp.

Time slips.

Inspiration days 17

I hear the voice again.

Get up.

Look around.

Inspiration is everywhere.

And it is.

In huge slices for the taking.

I search for fresh inspiration every day.

Maybe we all do?

It’s a natural need I am sure.

Whenever you are truly ready.

When you feel that tinge of emptiness.

Just close your eyes and say to yourself, I need some inspiration.

Take a deep breath, and look around.

It will be there.

It works.

And when you find it, I would love to know what curious place it was hiding in.

And perhaps, where it led you to?

Or, maybe you already found it, and you can tell us your secret?

Love, V

Sparkly heart

ps:

He says…

Hurry up and take the picture, I am only humoring you because we sleep together at night.

Then he makes the hugest annoyed sigh known to dog.

Inspiration days 30

Keep up the tough guy act, and I’ll tell everyone how you cuddle into me and purr in my ear.

A softy.

Deep down, somwhere, deep in there.

He is with me at least.

So glad I held on long enough for it to show up.

Or should I say, for him to feel safe enough to show me?

🙂

  1. Kim says:

Yes! Inspiration is everywhere. Sometimes we have to look deeper and longer, but it’s always somewhere.
I find mine in my little wildflower sproutlings. My puppies eyes. The hint of pink blossoms soon to bloom on the nectarine tree. I’m inspired by my kids, who are growing up to be amazing adults. My inspiration is in the oodles of orphan vintage photos I adopted. I find inspiration in my own studio and in children’s picture books. And….lately, fresh pineapple.
Inspiration is everywhere. I can see it and smell and feel it in the air.
and….I am inspired by you and your world.

  4. Rose, its totally natural, we all feel it. I search for fresh
inspiration every single day. I always bust out the front door in the
morning,on the hunt. The other good thing is music, it inspires
    everything in me 😉
I like the kind of inspiration that makes me run in circles with
    butterflies in my belly ;)))

  5. Fruit tree blossoms are wonderful I agree, as are your other inspirations,
love them all 🙂 And by the way pineapple rocks. Someone told me to
eat a lot of it before my surgery as it aids with inflammation and healing, and
    it totally worked miraculously!!!

  6. Thanks again for your inspiring blog. Your poetic storytelling posts brings sunshine to our lives. That last pic is priceless! But our dog Kino may be competition for the annoyed sigh contest. He has created a whole language composed of various sighs. Thanks again for sharing.

  7. Linnea-maria says:

I say wow, to have a garden that gives you fresh food all the year around. 🙂

  8. Miss Linda says:

    Wow, amazing photos…
Yes, inspiration is everywhere… but hasn’t knocked on my door lately. I get confused and then, when it doesn’t come to me I go look at my supplies. I do sit back and listen to music, which is very calming… then I look at my camera but I’ve taken enough winter photos to last forever. Maybe I’m having a dry spell… I know that inspiration will come knocking soon. You inspire me and you have an awesome way with words.
All of your garden is doing so well…beautiful colors.
    Thank you for this post.

  9. marjorie says:

OH Dustin O’Halloran and old photographs….inspiration, indeed!! I felt SO like working away for hours on painting these past few days….with no supplies or anything to work with, alas. Perhaps I’ll just doodle on some printer paper while our Miss naps….tee hee. Oh thanks for sharing your search for inspiration! Sending you many sweet thoughts from across the lands! : )

  10. laura says:

Inspiration is everywhere! Especially here! I always leave with a smile and a sigh (a good one!)
    love & blessings

  11. Marilyn says:

Oh the look of ecstasy when your fur love takes that bite of orange.
    So very sweet!

  12. M says:

The dogs against that bright yellow fabric just makes my heart so happy! And the orange eater? Be still my heart. Such a beautiful little slice of your life. Thank you! I needed inspiration for a deadline and I guess somewhere inside me I knew I’d find it here!

  13. Thank you. I’ve been feeling a bit low and uninspired, so this helped.
Side note, my gardening hunny-bunny planted our Rosemary last weekend. I hope it grows full and quickly, too…love that stuff and the divine smell it gives off. I’m not sure if a Rosemary bush can be shaped, but I’d like to try and have it in a rounded-conical shape.

  14. Miss Misha,
I always had bad luck with rosemary, until I learned, it does not like wet
feet. It needs to drain really well. When I finally go that, my
rosemary bushes thrived and have lived the last 7-8 years.
But they do grow slow here for some reason.
I think they take 2-3 years to get really established, and then they barrel
    out.
I keep both ornamental and culinary rosemary.
I especially love when the dogs play in it, and come over for hugs smelling
    like it 🙂

Funny. I was just saying AFT has been a source of “Happy Place” for years.. even when I was AWOL, I would still peek. What IS Mr. Teal boots doing these days, anyhoo? The one who first caught me eye and drew me into Bizarre… 😉
Hmm. Inspiration. Yeah, yeah, I feel you, I really do…we’re into winter, spring will come…we’re in that silent space….I think I’m at pre-inspiration phase one. You know what I mean? The place where you’re kinda antsy and you know you’ve got to settle, and you know something wants to be born, but before you can compeltely give yourself over to whatever it is, even though you don’t know what it is, you have to organize this and clean that and walk around this tree six times and daydream some new colored sofa…it’s like my mind has to settle to RECEIVE the inspiration, at the same time my soul does. And the only way to accomplish that is get crazy first. Does that make sense or do I sound like I’ve been sniffing glue?
    OY!
    XOXOXVIIXOXOX
PS Loki the wolf greets me at the door upon arriving home from work (my arriving, not him). He does the Loki wolf dance…and then he asks me to join, and when I do, he stands on his hind feet, puts his paws on my shoulder and leads, because he is WAY TALLER than I am!
    {{Fur love is an inspiration for just BEING..}}

  16. Jenn says:

Oh Miss Vanessa, I think you live and breathe art in everything you do without even trying to half the time. Nothing you touch is mundane, NOTHING! Let the inspiration fly, breathe in the wind and the trees and it will find you 🙂

  17. Alia says:

I just love this post, it resonates so much!

  18. Yesssss, inspiration is everywhere!
I search for it daily. Just that wonderful feeling. Inspiration
    for living, not just creating.
A deep breath of fresh air is inspiration, isnt it??! BLISS!
