I got me Some Horses, to Ride On ~ to Ride On…

So, let's see, what were we talking about last time we met here?  Was it Horses?  Horses horses, everywhere I turn?  Horses and Zebras too!

Saffron 6

I am either being gifted horses or painting horses in abundance these days, although, not riding horses.  You remember my tale of my head trauma avec life long vertigo and horses that I shared a while back, perhaps?  Although, a miniature pony could warm my heart over the moon.  Or even a miniature Zebra.  I think I saw large Zebra's at my neighbors house the other day.  No one believes me, but you do right?  I knew you would, I know I can count on you ;)

I have to tell you, I am so happy to finally be here.  Little did you know, I have been trying to get here since late Wednesday night.  But the winds, oh the winds, they had a force unlike I have ever experienced ( I took a video).  They had substance, they whipped and howled and tore things down.  There were fires and missing porch roofs on houses, and more.  Electricity off and on (20+ times), left almost no play time in the virtual world for this girl…

Windy day vanessa valencia 2007

Alas, our little shackling was spared (knock on wood), we shall see what tonight has in store (more winds are scheduled).  In a place where the forecast is always Sunny & Dry, all this rain and wind is wild.  Fun too, as long as it does not cause harm.

Oh how rude of me, I was going to offer you something warm to sip while we chat, but I got carried away.  Twinkle tea anyone?

Saffron 8

Or perhaps some magic brew?

Saffron 13

Pick your potion and gather round my campfire, for I have a tale to tell – yes, a tale about a name for a horse-boy.  As I read through all of your suggestions, all wonderful by the way, I found that three names clicked like a puzzle for me…

There was something said about Saffron

Saffron 4

And, I do believe there was something said about Dabloon, which I like the spelling of more than Doubloon.

Saffron 7

And there was even a first name that was perfect, so I tried to write a song about it while lollygagging in the dirt, whilst putting on a little concert…

Saffron 9

But as you can tell, I was playing to a very ahem, challenging audience… (plus Mister was laughing madly, and Matty wanted to be on top of my hat)

Saffron 10

Anywho, the 1920's horse-boy has a name!  A name put together from 3 of your suggestions.

Please say hello to…

Saffron 11

Saffron 2

Atticus "Saffron" Dabloon is just perfect, don't you think???

Although I have to say, all your names were brilliant (sooo hard to choose from all the name goodness), and in a perfect world, I would have a giant yellow horse, that you all would visit by being transported here in the ship of dreams, and then you would sign the giant horse with your name of choice.  Yes, that would be a perfect plan, no?

Thank you over the moon to Laume for Dabloon, to Melanye K for his first name – Atticus, and to Nicole for Saffron!!  (If you gals e-mail me your snail mail addresses, I will send a little parcel to your mail box 🖤)

But wait, I didn't tell you something.  While I was driving to another little town to adopt Atticus a couple days before my birthday, Mister lovely (oops, I mean Lovee) was gift wrapping a huge box, that contained…

Saffron 12

A black lovely galloping creature.

So, I ask, are you in the mood to help me name another horse friend?  Oh how I hope so!

If you feel like playing again, leave a name idea, and I will send a wee parcel to the folks whose names I choose.  I promise I will let you know this horse's name in the next post 😉

Black Horse 1

Now, it's time to quit horsing around.  Sorry, I had to say that, no matter how silly it makes me seem.  But then again, I can be really silly, especially when I get in the silly zone.  There is no stopping me, purple pie man dance moves and all.  You know who the Purple Pie Man is, don't you 😉 ?

Eeeks, lights flickered again, must hit save 😉

See you sooooon!

🖤,V

ps:  I borrowed this post's title from this song ;)

  1. Okay I thought that looked like saffron in your hand, LOL! Sort of…
Well, so, what all this about you know you “can’t count on” me??? LOL! Hmmmf I can’t tell if it’s a typo or a play on words. I’m going to go with play on words because you tend to be silly ’round here.
Oh? It’s not just ’round here that you’re silly? You’re silly everywhere?
    I believe it! 😉

  2. Krista Komis says:

Oh what a wonderful name for your sweet horse! By the way, I just love that first photo with the tiny zebra, it’s so adorable!
I shall name your new horse …
Sir Frou-franti Bucksley Bon Vivant (because as some know, bon vivant means, “A person with refined taste”, and this stately stallion *giggle* is worthy of such 🙂
    xoxoo
    -Krista

  3. Laura says:

Thank you so much for the cup of twinkle tea, it made my tummy flutter!
Saffron is a beautiful creature, I’m sure you’ll go on lots of adventures together.
I suggest nuit noire as the name for your new found friend. He looks like he would take you deep into the night forest and show you little pockets of diamonds.

  4. V says:

BUSTED! Okay okay, it’s ginger, heee heeeeeeeeeee 😉

  5. Diana says:

    What beautiful horse friends!
    I ride them, myself 😉
Now, for a name for your new steed…I can’t get his beautiful color out of my head, so why not incorporate that?
I like the sounds of Onyx.
    Or perhaps Raven!
    Or maybe even Dusky 😉

  6. Amy says:

i can’t believe it’s been so long since i’ve been here! this visit was long overdue!
i’ve been swept away to a far away land again just seeing all of the photos. wonderous!
saffron is a wonderful middle name, and makes me want to sing “mellow yellow” to myself… which i am now doing. haha.
i shall make a point of visiting more often!

  7. Laura says:

I love the name your picked for your yellow horse friend. This new one looks like midnight and the name Sebastian popped into my head when I saw him.
    blessings
    ~*~

  8. I am stuck on the color….so I sought names in the color of night
    Daegan – blackhaired in Gaelic
Fia – dark of peace in Scottish
Kali – the black one in Sanskrit
    Rajani – night in Sanskrit
Koori – blackfellow in Australian Aboriginal
    Nerissa – blackhaired in Italian
Quiran – dark black in Irish
Love the horses. May they inspire you to run free!
    Enjoy the day!
    Erin

  9. Maggi says:

Perfect name for your horse-boy! For the newest addition, I say “Caractacus”. 😀
    Stay safe in the winds!

  10. Kylee says:

Well I was going to suggest Raven..but that’s already been offered soooo….. How about Dickens or Parnassus???
p.s So happy your back and the wind didn’t blow you away!!

  11. Kim says:

    Vanessa,
So glad to have you back safely. The winds have been wild here in the desert of Southern California as well. Wind, hail, rain, and even a rumble of thunder.
How is Matty and Baby coming along? I hope they are both 100% well by now.
You know what name I think is simply wonderful for a horse? Josephus. Just plain ol’ simple Josephus. Well, that’s what I would name a horse if I had one, anyway.
Stay safe and out of the wind:
    Kim
    Gerushia’s New World

  12. FairRosamund says:

I love the picture of the tiny zebra, too cute! 🙂 I also love the name you picked out for your first horsie. My suggestion for the other one would be: Thurston Fontaine III.

  13. Cori. G says:

Oh Beloved Fanciful One! Another horsey to name? Who will this one be? Oh, whilst I ponder a name for he, could you pour me a bit of twinkle tea? Thank you and yes, I’ll have one lump with cream ;-).

  14. dena miller says:

    Hi Vanessa,
My hubby loves to bet on the horses so I asked him to bet on this one to see if we could be the winner of your gifty. So…he is so silly…he said, “I would name it Sucretts”. I said, “Why”? He said, “because he looks like he’s a little horse”. LOL Tee Hee!!!
    xoxo,
    Dena

  15. Laura S. says:

Saffron is a perfect name! For the black horse, I suggest “Charcoal”!

  16. The twinkle tea was just marvelous Ms. V, thank you! And yes, I agree…that name is wonderful too…good picks.
I’m thinking for his friend…’Nighty Knight,’ tee hee. Because he’s black as night and has strong armor like a knight. Umm, speaking of silly…I’m right there with ya 😉
So glad you are safe from all the crazy wind. We had a weird weather day here too. Rain, then sleet, then fluffy snow, then sleet, then rain…now nothing?
Okay, so have a great weekend, but don’t do any horsing around in that crazy weather…wouldn’t want you to blow away 😉
    Jamie 🙂

  17. Nelly says:

I hear you V on those winds and my oh my all the rain that is pouring down on our desert! Isn’t Arizona beautiful at this time of year? It’s so magical. Any who Wonderful name choice! It fits him. Let’s see another name for this guy? Moon Shine plopped into my head:)

  18. Alia says:

I used to have an all black horse and her name was Midnight. I know, not the most creative, but it fit! I also think Shadow is good. Also I was saving this name for if I ever have a girl someday, but you can borrow it! Scout. Now that I think about it that would pair nicely with Atticus.
    Ooh, or Osiris!

  19. No name ideas … I’m too tired to be creative. But I was awake enough to thoroughly enjoy your post!
However, I have to ask, did you see the drawing that Lisa did at http://awhimsicalbohemian.typepad.com/a_whimsical_bohemian/2010/01/illustrating-my-point-of-view.html
The piece titled When You Wish Upon a Love with the top-hatted fellow and lovely maiden made me IMMEDIATELY think of you and the Mr.
    argh
    You’ve invaded my brain!
    😉

  20. Pat says:

Great name for the yellow horse! For the black one, I was also thinking of Midnight or Scout…let’s see what else I might come up with. Ebony, Sir Walter, Black Diamond,
Pepper (touch of white that he has), Licorice, Sydney…just cause I like the name! 🙂 Javier, Ringo, Diamond Dust, Shade.
    xo

  21. Amisha says:

Your horse reminded me of a story we read in fourth grade – the tale of Black Beauty. Now I think I have to find that book again and read it, I remember being very moved and sad at some of the things that happened to Black Beauty. Funny how after so many years, I can’t remember the details of the story but I remember how I felt whilst reading it.

  22. Well, here goes again…hee,hee
Diablo would be a fine name for a fine black stallion
    😉

  23. Molly says:

Glad you weren’t blown away! It was frightfully windy at my house a few days ago – it must have traveled your direction!
Love your horse-boys name! Now for the next…hmmmmmmm. I’ve heard of some people who name all their kids with names that start with the same letter so how about…….. Aloysius? :)(That was actually my grandfather’s name and when he was in a temper my grandmother would call him Vicious Aloysius, haha!)
And by purple pie man do you mean “The Peculiar Purple Pie Man of Porcupine Peak rat-tat-tat-tat-tat-tat-tat-tat-tat-tah!” ?

  24. What beautiful horses Vanessa!
The black one reminds me of a dark night. I think Vent Noir (Black Wind) would be pretty.I love the French language, it just sounds so pretty and romantic.
    Hugs…

  25. Laurie Griffin says:

It’s been rainy and windy and stormy here in SoCal too for days. I’m glad I’m in a second floor apartment because there’s been flooding as well and it gets a little scary when it seems the rain and wind will never stop.
The moment I saw your fine black horse, I thought of Jett or Jet. As in jet black. You could call him Jetty as an endearment. 🙂

  26. Anja says:

Love this game – name choosing. I usualy search for the ideas in atlases. Rivers and mountains have such magical names, don’t you think.
But for this fine horse, I had to go deeper. Into Arabic soil.
Bahir would be my choice. Sparkling!

  27. Elaine L. says:

Kali – in Hindu name that means “black”
Duggan – Irish male name meaning black
    Sasafras
    Sirius
    Alfonso
    Cisco
    Hidalgo
    ~elaine~

  28. Joanne Archer says:

    I like this..
Kaspar – The name of the black, three foot high wooden cat sculpture at the Savoy Hotel in London that is assigned to eat with any group of diners that have 13 (traditionally believed to be an unlucky number) in their party. It is Kaspar’s duty to bring the number of any dining party from 13 to 14, thereby protecting the diner’s from an unlucky fate. If your horse has ever protected you or brought you luck, consider the name Kaspar.

  29. Hi, This is definately not a boy horse. In the part of England where I live we have a history (note I don’t say legend’) of a woman who, when suspected of withcraft turned herself into a black horse and galloped off into the night to escape. I like to think she ended up with you, as I know you would never persecute her because she believed in all things magical. She wasn’t a bad witch you understand, just a bit mischievious at times. I think your horse has that look in her eyes. Her name was ‘Kitty Witch’.

  30. Rodi says:

I think Abanos would be an appropriate name for your new black steed 🙂
Oh, and thank you for the Twinkle tea. It was lovely!

  31. oh my what a gorgeous horse, and the name pablo comes to mind (not sure why) anyhow thanks to the 20 strawberry shortcake dvds we seem to own i do know who the purple pie man is! (well at least i think that is the guy you are talking about)

    xxrosey

  32. jenn says:

    Sugarfoot.
Oh my what a beautiful gift.

  34. Claire says:

Ohhhh, I love the name of your horse! Beautiful! I loveeee Tori Amos as well!!

  35. Well, as a horsey-girl from way back, Ilove your babies. and Saffron is such a pretty name. I have to tell you how much I enjoyed the recent tour of your rooms. Oh how I wish I could spend hours there! Have a beautiful weekend,

  38. camille says:

    Winston Windrider Weatherhoof!
Tee Hee what a fun game.
    xoxo
    Camille

  39. What an awesome, regal name. I didn’t play last time but I will now. I dub thee sir Ebonus(not sure if that’s a good spelling) Like Ebony. Pretty corny huh?

so many other wonderful suggestions, i am left with nothing!

  43. sadira says:

    Indigo Moonshine…
Now. About all this crazy AZ weather. It was snowy snowy up here at the start…until the rain came and melted that and then flooded everything (you should have seen Snap Snap. Oh V. I had to loose it and cry for a bit…and then roll up my sleeves and get down to it! I was lucky to have quite a bit of help on my side as well…) Then it snowed again…accompanied by those awful winds…and snowed some more. Oh. It’s snowing right now as a matter of fact. BUT. People are out and about having fun for sure! They are stir crazy and honestly there’s not even a foot of snow on the ground, so I believe once they tested it with a toe or two and realized that they wouldn’t melt…Prescott has sprung to life once again!
    Thank heavens (silly)
I hope you are all safe down there as well…at least our rivers and lakes are full full full now, eh?

  44. I love your “Hello Zebra!” So whimsical, magical, lovely! Will that be a card?? It’s fantastical!
Thank you for the tea! 🙂

  45. Allie says:

As soon as I saw your black horse, the name Onyx came to mind. There’s something about black animals that I’m attracted to….black dogs, black cats, black rabbits, panthers, black horses, ZEBRAS!!! Your steed is a TREASURE!
    ~Allie

  46. Nikkonia says:

How lovely. I suggest the name Kepuha for your black beauty 🙂

  47. Laume says:

I’m so delighted you liked my name for your golden friend. I’ve e-mailed you.
As for your new gift from the Lovely Mr. Lovee, he’s magnificent! The horse I mean, although I’m guessing Mr. Lovee is pretty magnificent as well.
The first name that came to me is Assam, which is a type of rich black tea. And then that made me think of Masala, which is short for Masala Chai, the traditional rich and spicy black chai that we think of when we think of chai.
There’s Noir of course, which someone else has probably already contributed.
Hopefully I will be back to read some of the other name suggestions but, alas, now that we are blessed with electrical power once more, I must dash off and do “many things”.

  48. Shell says:

Twinkle tea is enchanting to drink. I especially like to pair it with double twinkle chocolate cupcakes with faerie vanilla ice cream.
My name for your lovely new horse is Midnight Blue.

  49. Sheryl says:

    Atticus “Saffron” Dabloon
Took a swift trip to the moon.
    When he got there,
    The sight was so fair,
    He stayed the whole afternoon.
(In honor of your new friend)
And a name suggestion for your newer friend–Maximilian Frost

  50. Chymberleigh says:

Well, now that Tori’s singing in my mind, I’m calling your other horse Black Dove…

  51. amy faldet says:

Thanks for the tea, I needed that. Sparkle tea always raises my spirits and my head. Blessings friend.

  52. Hello Vanessa… your golden horse’s name is just beautiful! For your gorgeous new black creature, I would call him “Paladin”… which means “a knight renowned for his heroism and chivalry”… I also used to love an old western series on tv called “Have Gun Will Travel” and the star who was the hero of the show was named “Paladin”… and he always wore black… love to you… xoxo Julie Marie

  53. Joanne Tuchman says:

Thank you for the tea and the tempting game of naming…Since you live in the Magical World of love and dreams I would suggest Midnight Magic for your new horsie’s name. He just looks so magical and majestical…I can tell he was meant to be yours.

  54. Jennifer says:

Once you are bitten by the horse bug, there is no turning back! They’ll always find a way to weasel their way into your life.
Your new pony is gorgeous. I would name him something with a French twist: Noir, Cheval, Rémi, Sébastien, Étienne…

  55. Sylvia says:

How about something more wicked…El Diablo..hehehe..
Saffron is a very cute name for a yellow horse.
    Hugs…Sylvia

  56. Elizabeth says:

Here I am writing to you for the first time…I don’t “lurk”, I hover like a winged pixie and then come one day when I find I must express myself! Your blog makes my spirit dance…I once lived in Tucson for many years and your stories touch my memories, thank you, dear V.
You chose well, grasshopper, for that first name of your 1920 horse…I couldn’t resist putting in a few names for this newest addition to the stable…
Blaze (the white streak on his face
Raven (for that delicious black color)
Stormy Knight (riding during a huge, fiery, drenching monsoon)
    Be well.

    Cheers!

  58. Gina says:

When I married my husband he had a black horse named Ebony which I always thought was just too easy a name for a black horse. I, on the other hand, had a solid black cat with just a tip of white on its tail that I named iceberg (the tip of the iceberg…… )nobody got it but I always thought it was a hoot. LOL! Anyway, Spirit and Whimsy are the first two names that came to me when I saw your new friend so there you are. I have just discovered your blog and am looking forward to many hours of perusing!

  59. Cindi aka oldblackcatboo says:

When I was a little girl and the other girls in the neighborhood liked to play with their baby dolls, I would be running around my yard galloping on my invisible horse. Other times I would be on the swing set swinging as high as I could, wishing I was in my magical place where there would be horses. I would envision a white one named “Lightning” and a black one named “Thunder”. Boy, I had forgotten about that…(now I want a horse again!) So of course to me, the name could only be “Thunder”!

  60. Michelle says:

My goodness! Hope ou are all tied down-what weather! Love Mr. Atticus’s name. I have such a hard time with names, I will offer Charles, he just seems so dignified!

  61. A new horse? I love it. You’re going to have quite the menagerie pretty soon. ‘:)
Your new charming fellow looks like a “Finnegan Hollow” – a Black haired (mane) Irish devil.
BTW, your red ruby cocktail ring is stunning and driving me to insane envy. I have a few antique pieces and they are oversized like yours. Don’t you love that? Promise me that if we ever have tea in real life we’ll wear all of our most outlandish accessories. ‘;)

  62. “BASILIO”
    * Monsieur Basilio Bon Vivant ~

  63. someones probably already suggested it but my hubby is in the other room watching Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil so Midnight just popped into my head. Or it could be that he is quite deaf and someone said something about midnight and I couldn’t help but hear…and I even have headphones on. really, I’m not complaining….not even one tiny bit. Please tell me that Mr Lovely isn’t as perfect as he sounds and has some minor defects like watching t.v. too loud and screaming like a banshee during the football game.

  64. babelfish says:

just a quick note to say hi, happy january etc…I’ll be back 🙂

I’m in a scatter-brained mood today, and fear any naming attempts on my part might present themselves in a rather odd-light! tee hee…..
Merryweather…..Flim-Flam…..Nostrogasticus III (from a long line of Nostrogasticuses in the dale-region of gasticus-heath)????
    You see!!
    Tee hee!!
    Cheerio Miss!

  69. Chris says:

How beautiful he is! And I was thinking… since Atticus is the name of the lawyer in To Kill A Mockingbird, how about the name Ebony Boo Radley for this handsome steed?
I’m glad you haven’t been blown away!
