Hummingbird Heart.

Do you have a hummingbird heart?

Soft and tender and easy to hurt?

Beautiful and kind and extra alert?

Hummingbird heart 4

Happy and free…

But with a good dash of worry wart in your tea?

Hummingbird heart 2

A hummingbird got stuck in Mister Lovee's home office sky light.

It fluttered madly, afraid and desperate.

Hummingbird heart 3

But it wouldn't stop and realize that we had opened the door to the outside and all the windows.

It was so worried, it nearly worried itself sick.

Hummingbird heart 1

In that moment, I knew how it felt.

Being a worry wart from time to time myself.

I thought, how poignant really.

The hummingbird fluttering itself into a tizzy.

Not seeing that the exit was right there.

Poor lil' thing.

Hummingbird heart 5

Not understanding that, maybe things were going to be okay after all?

I am sure all of us have felt like that at some time or another in our lives.

Worried into a state of spiralling flutter?

Hummingbird heart 6

Gentle little hummingbird hearts.

Hummingbird heart 7

Sometimes all we need is hope, don't we?

A hug, a little help.

So we don't drown our poor little hummingbird hearts.

Hummingbird heart 8

So, there was Mister Lovee.

With his aloe bloom branch.

In colors that get a wee bird's attention.

Saved.

Hummingbird heart 9

Taking a sip of relief.

Hummingbird heart 10

Escorted out the window…

Hummingbird heart 11

Back to where it could flutter free.

I had to laugh a little.

And think to myself, how there is much to be learned from that little hummingbird.

Maybe we all need a lesson in trust and letting go from time to time?

In taking help when we need it.

Letting someone give us a hand?

In not panicking when things get too bad.

But instead, looking around.

Because maybe, just maybe…

There is something to save you.

And maybe that something is right there in front of you.

Maybe it's falling into a little faith blindly?

Or, maybe it's a real hug from someone you love?

Reminding you that everything is going to be alright.

Perhaps all your worries are about to come to an end?

Or maybe, your change of perception will make them seem like they disappeared magically?

Maybe all that ails the soul can be fixed, just right there.

Only, you can't see it with that hummingbird heart fluttering madly?

Maybe we all need to stop and take a deep breath from time to time.

And believe again?

I don't know.

The whole thing amazed me.

Which is why I am sharing it with you.

Fellow hummingbird hearted?

I think we all are from time to time, aren't we?

Love, V

Sparkly heart

Wow, this was amazing and brought tears to my eyes. Mr. Lovee is brilliant! And the words you wrote, Vanessa, were so meaningful to me. It’s what I’ve been feeling lately about the times we’re all going through. As always, LOVE your blog and how uplifting, creative and magical you are. 🖤 🖤 🖤

  5. Victoria says:

Wonderful Mr. Lovee! Vanessa, that is possibly the most beautiful and meaningful (to me) post I have ever read. You expressed how I feel, at times, perfectly.
    Blessings,
    Victoria

  6. OC says:

    Amazingly written !!!

  7. I totally agree with Laurie…Mr Lovee was brilliant to use the aloe branch to free the sweet, distraught, tiny, hummingbird. It’s amazing it calmed itself to be let out the door. So happy the hummingbird didn’t beat his little wings to death trying to escape.
I loved the photos and the prose-like details you penned of the entire event.
Thank you for sharing your parallel thoughts of having just that wee bit of faith to hold on to.

  8. Ruthinks says:

OH! That is so heart felt and touching. I teared up too. I often feel so soft hearted, and sometimes feel like no one really understands that, but I can tell that you really do. Beautiful pictures and story. Thank you for sharing.

  9. Julia says:

    Perfect timing…
    Thank you so much

  10. What a beautiful story, beautifully written. Poetry to my ears! It resonated on many levels, and also reminded me of a somewhat similar experience. Our neighbor called me over when a Broad-billed Hummingbird got caught in their house, sliding up and down the small 18″ side windows. I wish I had thought of the aloe branch then. Worried about its fragility I decided to lay my hand on the window below it as it fluttered up. As it fluttered back down it rested on my hand(perched). I slowly turned and walked to the door, where it flew back out to greener desert landscapes.

  11. Sherrill says:

Oh, I was a little worried this was going to have a sad ending . . . but, brilliant, resourceful Mr. Lovee saved the day! Pheewwww! I’m not so sure I would have thought to try to find a nice branch to entice the poor little hummer out! And, Miss V, you captured this story perfectly with your thoughtful, magical command of words!

  12. Mr. Lovee is such a wonderful soul! I love hummingbirds. They always make me smile when they come to feed from our trumpet vine. I only wish they would visit a little longer each time they come. Once they have drunk their fill of nectar, off they go to some other garden, some other magical world. At least I can enjoy them for a few moments every day.

  13. Miss Linda says:

Oh how wonderful little Humming bird is free…Thanks to you and Mr. Lovee…great idea and story. Thank you for sharing it all with us.

  14. Tina says:

What a lovely post, Miss Vanessa. It made me tear up as I thought of the lovely L’Wren Scott and how I wish she had had a hummingbird story like this to help her to see that things can be all right….not perfect, not the same, but that there are people who care enough to get an aloe bloom to lend a hand when needed ❤️

  15. G.G. Pinkster says:

Dearest Queen of Spring there is nothing more perfect for the first day of spring than to read your story.
    XOXO

  16. Sherrill, since hummingbirds love red and they drink aloe flower juice all
day, I think thats why the aloe worked so well. We were soooo happy to
keep him from giving himself a heart attack 😉 Poor lil; thing.

  19. Toward the end, hummingbirds would gather in the tree outside our window where Gary was in the hospital bed. I told him the hummingbirds were coming to take him home to God…he liked that thought.

    Vanessa:
The only thing I can say to you right now is “thank you for this post.” Otherwise, I am speechless over how much I needed to read this, considering our current circumstances of unemployment.

  23. Awwwwwwww. Seriously, how cool. Those creatures are so beautiful and delicate. I’m so happy that you and Mr. Lovee saved one. We have those same Aloe succulents in our yard but I’ve only seen one hummingbird. I’m continually planting more plants and flowers to attract them. Well, those and butterflies, too. <3

  24. Misha, we have so many hummingbirds in our garden. Well, all sorts of
birds hang out around here. And once in a while, we even come upon a teeny
tiny hummingbird nest, soooo sweeeet 😉

  25. Dixie says:

I just have to share this…a few years ago a mama hummer built her teeny tiny nest on a wind chime on my back patio, three feet from my kitchen window ! Two tiny babes from two tiny eggs hatched.
They finally outgrew their tiny abode and there was just enough space for them to hang on right outside of the nest, all along mom taking great care of her young.
By this time, it was May in Phoenix and very hot and they were much too warm. Little wings outstretched and mouths open, begging for a breath of fresh air.
This is really the amazing part…they let me come oh so close and shoot a light spray mist of water upward into the air falling softly on their little tiny feathered bodies…mom included. This happened for a few days until they flew the nest…first one, and then the next day, the other, a very happy ending…sniffle.

  26. Marilyn says:

We have hummingbirds just outside my breakfast window.
I love to sit and watch them while I sip my tea, but
hadn’t thought the thoughts you have been thinking. I
just love them so and maybe I identified with them and
    just didn’t know it.

  27. Kelly says:

Bravo Mr. Lovee! What a smart thing to do! How adorable to see HB perch its tired little body on that branch. Great pictures by the way! Vanessa, what an ah ha moment put to words and with such a happy ending! Thanks for sharing with one of the fellow hummingbird hearted. <3

  28. Kathy says:

Beautiful, Vanessa. And, perfect for right now. At this time. Every once in a while, I forget to stop and breathe. Thanks for the reminder. Your Mr. Lovee is a jewel.
    Take care.
    Kathy

  29. Jenn says:

The sweetest little metaphor! Mr. Lovee is the kindest soul I imagine, rescuing that sweet little bird. Beautiful pictures of the tiny fella (or lady, who knows!)

  30. Joni says:

Beautiful post and brilliant Mr. Lovee! What kind souls you both are.

  31. DogsMom says:

A beautiful lesson for us all.

  32. Chelsy says:

Oh my gosh, Vanessa, how I needed this. How did you know? Thank you.

  33. Lauren says:

More magical proof (is that an oxymoron?) that we are more connected, with hummingbirds and each other, than we realize! Tis a treat to see through your eyes from time to time.
    <3

  34. Oh you are so wise, and so true Vanessa! Love the analogy! Celeste
