I am spinning in that space where I am so eager not to miss a morsel of this Halloween season, that I am about to lose my head. So much to embrace and savor and stash away. It has to be just enough to hold us over until the next season, me thinks. So, immersion it is. Soaking it all in + enjoying every moment of it….
Over the last handful of days, I didn't feel like I was getting enough Halloween infusion. Then I thought about the one thing in my home, that I see the most, and enjoy the most. And that is the mood board in my office.
So, I decided to make a 2nd mood board, with only Halloween things.
I chose many of my cards that I designed, and carry in my online shop.
(By the by, my shop is stocked with Halloween cards and more. I am now stepping up shipping to every single day, as Halloween approaches, so there is still time to place an order.)
Come in, and I'll share some tid-bits with ya…
Have you ever created a mood board for yourself?
To me, it is one of the most calming fun things.
It allows you to be creative & crafty, and there is no chance of messing up. Plus, you get to gather oodles of things that you like, and bonus, you get to enjoy them all at once.
The moon has been sublime, perfect for a little Halloween crafty inspiration!
5:30 a.m. today, yes, that is the moon. It was glowing orange, and I had to run out there and take a photo. But then, I did crawl back into bed for a while…
Pumpkins and witches make me so happy.
I personally think that witches and Halloween art should be year round display, even if just a little. Because really, every proper fairytale forest has a witch and a haunted house and ghosties, and seasons. And so, it is all part of the grand tale, as I see it?
I hung my mood board in my cozy nook…
Perfect, makes me feel so much more Halloweenified.
(ps: I have to share all my pumpkin babes I grew this summer, these are some of them, others we ate, and others are sleeping right now, and didn't want their photo taken 😉
And, I can look at it often throughout the day.
I didn't have a cork board on hand, so I used a piece of wood, and just hot glued everything to it. Normally I use push pins, but since I wanted to make this mood board to hang up year after year, I didn't have a problem hot gluing everything to it…
It is such an excellent way to get to peek at my cards. Usually I only get a glance as I write some of my own to send, or package orders.
This is just a great way to appreciate those things I never really get to fully enjoy.
I attached an old key, a couple brooches, even some of the spell labels…
I also glittered up some fake bugs, and glued on one of my giant dahlias that had dried…
Little flies and pumpkins got glued on too…
Mood boards really are "mood" enhancers. Such a great concept…
One of my fave cards below (in my shop also)…
Oh and, I always have to throw in a few butterflies. I just love them. I feel like, butterflies make everything extra magical… (they say Vanessa means butterfly? Maybe that is why I love them so much?)
So, there you have it, instant Halloween extravaganza mood board.
As a tip, I hot glued vintage sheet music to the back of my board. But you can use brown paper, stained coffee filters, wrapping paper, anything really…
I can't wait to see if I wake up in time to catch the moon again tomorrow morning. That moon is sure elevating the enchantment level, I tell ya….
Golden orange moon beam glow love!
See you extra soon 😉
Love, V

Vanessa:
Thank you for lifting my Halloween spirits today. I have all of my indoor and outdoor decorations up, but haven’t had much time to really breathe it in and enjoy it. I am, once again (as I was last April with my sweet Labrador, Homer), on a “deathwatch”. My old cat, Bonzo, is transitioning….going onward….passing on. He’s in the middle of transition right now, so I am by his side and hoping to make his last days as calm and loving and comfortable as possible. But….it was good to get away for awhile, to visit you and your world, as my world is not so pleasant right now.
I can always count on you to make me feel better!!
xoxo

I am now planning on going straight home from work and creating a mood board!! That is exactly what my art nook is missing!!

Ah! Midterms are next week but I may just have to sneak in a couple of hours to work on my own little mood board. Yours is just delightful! All the little treats added on top of all of your beautiful cards and artwork add a bit of whimsy and spookiness. And whimsy and spookiness are the most important parts of Halloween, I think.
I love your mood board, Vanessa! I have never done one myself, but yours is so very inspiring. I love the 3D elements you have added. I have also taken note of the full moon. Oh, and you show it beaming there beside your cottage. I am so eager to see what you do with that place, but I will be patient. : )
Shine on, Shine on Harvest Moon, Up in the Sky… I love the moon! It often sweeps me away in its gorgeousness!!!
Your mood board is wonderful and compliments your pumpkin harvest and miss witchy wonderfully.
Have a great day!
Always, Queenie
I so love your postcards for Halloween. I used them as invitations to a Halloween tea I am holding for the ladies in my family and the cards were a hit.
I am trying to get my decorating done, but life keeps getting in the way. I have my Halloween parties this weekend, so I am taking it to the wire. Hopefully everything will come together. Can’t wait for the Party post. I am planning and plotting.
Oh my!! It’s been absolute ages since I’ve visited (The Ghoultide Gathering and an unexpected hospital stay for hubby on the way home have occupied every moment)…
So many magical Halloween posts! So many gorgeous photos! Such seasonal inspiration! And a party approaching as well (Please do count me in!)
I was saddened to read about Coco, and do hope she’s well, and found SOON. Poor lost puppy, breaks my heart. 🙁
Hope Mr Lovee is feeling better, and you are both finding time to enjoy the season.
Off to add the Halloween Party banner to my blog now….
Happy Halloween!

I need to get going on one of these. It is something I have always wanted to do but never seem to get around to doing it. I’m up to my eyeballs in halloween baking and have so many ideas I don’t know what to do next!

You certainly are getting me into the Halloween mood too. That board looks like funa d so are your decorations. Love that moon photo! Been raining here so no harvest moon viewing.
Love the Witch dolls. Was in a wonderful store in Montclair New Jersey this weekend and saw a lady at the counter with a similar doll, sadly she purchased the last one. I love your aesthetic too, the way you manage to capture the imaginary (concept) and bring it into fruition, canvas or otherwise. Lovely
Dear V,
Well, you certainly did an excellent job of Halloweenifying yourself…I love your little mood board! Such a fun and inspirational idea to put everything that you love into one little space and have it to look at all day 🙂
I am super excited for this upcoming party! The 22nd is going to be amazing! I created invitations (which took me a very long time to make, but was well worth the effort, I must say) and sent them out to my friends for an extra special Halloween bash!
AND we get Halloween off from school! How magical is that??? I think it’s fate!
This weekend, I spent my time painting (I have to say, I am quite pleased with my creations) and we went out Halloween costume shopping, which was so much fun! (My mom and I also went to Payless and I got some Moccasins…but that’s beside the point…)
But possibly the ultimate highlight of my weekend was when my darling friend ARIEL stopped by my house and gave me the best unbirthday present of all time! I extracted three wittle adorable pumpkins (one white, the other orange, and the other an orange gourd) and also a beautiful painting, which now hangs in my room. Attached to the painting was a card filled with pixie dust, which I proceeded to sprinkle onto my tiny pumpkins. I took pictures of the little guys sitting on my dresser and they are absolutely adorable!
Sorry, I’m going on too long! Happy Halloween!
BOO!

This post melts my heart. This is all something I would have just adored as a child. I was so curious and loved details. I still do now! Who am I kidding!? Wonderful. xo
I LOVE this! Thank you for sharing your mood board…I feel compelled to do something like this…I love Halloween and this is a perfectly haunting way to appreciate it’s beauty. So magical…
oh! i’m looking forward to our halloween party!!! i’m getting ready like a mad!!!!!!
I am thoroughly enjoying this Halloween…but making a mood board just for the occasion seems like a no-brainer….though I never thought of it! Perhaps cuz the inside of my head is a bit of a no-brainer right now with all my busy-ness….haha!
Thanks for the reminder to slow down and enjoy some more!!!
Wonderful, comfy, spooky little nook 🙂
My Halloween mood is set very high these days. I just love the holiday. There are always vignettes to make and photograph. Fall has reached western Michigan and the warm weather is almost gone for 5 months. Indian summer is on it’s way out the door and we say good by to the 80 dagree weather we’ve had for the last 10 days. Thank you for sharing your mood board. It is very inviting, I would keep it up all year long if I could.
I love it, thanks for sharing. I have Halloween fever myself lol. I can’t wait to go over and see the shop!
hugs,
Heather
