Gypsy Whispers

Today…

Clouds linger over big mountains, trees droop with leaves, violin strings play, clouds shield the sun.

For the first time in so long there is a breeze, setting imaginations off, to run free…

Gypsy days 3

The whistle of tea water.

Leaves, telling tales upon last sips?

Quiet.

Calm.

Gypsy days 1

Belly butterflies visit, tempting us to plunge.

Summer gypsy days do beckon.

In the garden…

A wagon hidden by heavy branches.

Gypsy days 12

Orange globes picked under dark early morning sunrise…

Candles lit…

Gypsy days 11

Washing wagon floors.

Dusting walls.

Gathering petals…

Gypsy days 2

Finding the most curious little message behind an old torn picture.

Gypsy days 10

Cozying up with printed pages, bound and ready for reading voyages…

Gypsy days 4

With gold glittered feet.

Perfect for such adventures of the mind…

On certain days –

Just like today.

Gypsy days 5

You need some too.

Any color you'd like.

Paint, sparkles over wet paint - done.

Magic ensues.

Glittered feet do this.

Then…

Fairy tales come to visit.

Gypsy days 6

And so, we go out searching for them ourselves.

Fairies.

Wings brush your cheek.

Your ear.

Quick and clever….

But you know.

You know.

They are there.

Gypsy days 8

Time for lunch, or snack – a nibble.

Gathering green in the garden…

Gypsy days 9

Succulent little berries as well…

Gypsy days 7

So far today…

Gypsy days 14

Divine.

Hopes for grey skies and clouds to stay a while, so a girl can finally play under great big trees.

Take the sun to your house for today, k?

It's been a lovely week, visits from Mombie, doing hair.

Danishes, chocolate croissants.

Vegetable stew.

Pups so happy to see granny, they love her.

Mopping floors, scrubbing nooks.

Painting on canvas.

Deep cleaning week.

Laundry done.

Every secret spot vacuumed.

Phew, that's a lot of work.

Keeping house.

Where's Olga when you need her?

Oh Olga.

Love, V

Sparkly heart

ps:  Listening to this….

pss:  Mister Lovee isn't thrilled with the glitter feet.  He thinks it is very "alien" of me.  Whatever that means?

What I want to know is –

A) Do aliens have glittered feet?

And,

B)  How does does Mister Lovee know this?

Hmmm?

I love glittered feet.  I think I have to glitter his while he sleeps.  But he is sooooo ticklish, I might not succeed.

I love this post! Anything with the word “gypsy” and “whisper” in the title of the blog has to be good! I especially love your 10th picture, of the pink flower. I just adore that. With it’s lovely petals, and the magic of the photo…there are certain pictures like that, for me, in every post, where they just seem to click with me. I am automatically drawn to them. And that is something only a truly gifted photographer can accomplish. (With the help of a little magic, of course) 😀
Okay, I’m really sorry, but no WAY are we taking the sun! We already have enough here in Cali! I am serious. It’s so hot. And maybe I don’t really know how bad it can get, but to me, this is hot. Oh well.
I hate the heat, so that’s kinda a problem. Well, that’s what you deal with when you live in sunny California…
    Have a great weekend, V!

    Vanessa:
You must be having the same type of weather I’m having. Finally, some clouds. We had a splatter of rain last night! I was so excited, I actually blogged about the summer rain today! So, so good.
Your post reminds me of Halloween…must be the little orange globes and the candelabra. Now, I’m feeling all Autumnish in my belly. Autumn gives me butterflies of excitement….all orange and black and red.
Oh I adore your big, shady tree….and your wee-bitty tomatoes. I have oodles of squash, but not a single tomato yet. My tomatoes are not doing well. 🙁
Yes please…glitter feet! Lovely glitter feet. I want that!

  3. Sarah says:

The glittered feet are wonderful! What gave you that idea? Was it an alien, is Mr Lovee right?! Love it whatever!
PS-just linking to you re: your dahlias-I have-or had-dahlia envy! I have some in a pot now, so feel calm again!

  4. Tis true me thinks tis time for glittered toes and bows and crowing of fine linericks all in a row. The monsoons inspire fine tumes sung at the moon tho there be those who hummm “What loons!” But we know that nary it may snow there is a happy glow that is towed in this midsummer tome. :o)
    Have a wonderful weekend.
    Always, Queenie

  5. G.G. Pinkster says:

I remember hearing not so long ago,
About a girl who painted her toes.
Not just her toes as you would suppose,
As you see she dreamt in blues and golds.
All around her flew gold dust in rows.
Whilst she freely danced around a blue fairy land,
Dreaming of gold glittered feet and fairy bands.
She looked to the left and then to the right,
And even up and down in sight.
This girl had a reputation of sorts,
Of dancing with fairies and their cohorts.
SHe lived and breathed fresh morning air,
And danced upon the dew with a lovely silent flair.
And every moment that she danced she would sing,
To the fairies around her who collected magic strings.
They wove and wove them and braided them into her hair,
And then glittered her feet with sunlight fair.
She danced and sang a song to the moon,
To the wind and clouds and the sun at noon.
And oh my goodness to her surprise,
She found a magic tree who’s branches did sigh.
The boughs hung low almost to the ground,
The canopy was rich and very round.
And there she found to the joy in her heart,
    A gypsy’s dream whispering to her…to start..
An adventure that goes from dawn past dark.
She walked inside the tree canopy,
Where a wagon sat there so very gypsy.
She walked up silently and opened the door,
Stepped in side and walked across the floor.
ANd then a whispering began to sing,
And blue and gold rose in flowers and rings.
She giggled and smiggled and knew right away,
She was in the place of magic where she could play.
The magic walls and bed inside,
Were calling her a tale to ride.
The gypsy wagon and her golden feet,
Found a color filled magic seat.
So she sat and dined inside,
To eat pink cakes and drink tea of the tide.
ANd with that and this you see she danced on in to a gypsy dream.
She found a place in the gardens and trees,
Where to hide her Magical dancing golden key.
Golden glitters signaling the find to Ms. VV ‘s magic ride.

I think glittering my feet could possibly change my life.

  7. Theresa says:

Your gold glittered feet are BEAUTIFUL, Vanessa! I adore them. 🙂 And I love that skirt you are wearing, too. 🙂 I spy a lovely book there…what might it be? 🙂 Sorry it has been awhile since I visited – we went away and then my sweet pup Neo fell ill and I’ve been nursing him back to health. Happy weekend to you! xoxo

  8. Pat says:

I think glittered feet are a must, at least once in every life! Do you mind if I use silver? Maybe Mr Lovee just doesn’t know that girls sometimes need glittered feet to feel special?
Your photos are all gorgeous, as usual! You’ve certainly been a busy girl…don’t work too hard. Take a siesta ~
    xo
    Pat
    P.S. Love your skirt!

  9. Jessica says:

P.S. I just realized something. Something that partially explains why I love your blog so much. So I think it’s the white background. The clean and crisp atmosphere there makes all of the other vibrant colors from the pictures and sidebar pop out more than they would if they were muted by other distractions from the background. And that makes your focus settle predominantly on the pictures and words. I almost feel like I can just stick my arm out and it will somehow enter into the photograph and I can be transported to your magical world :D. Just my thoughts. I was looking at one of your older posts (specifically, the ones about snow, because I wish it was cold right now…) and I suddenly realized this. I had the urge to just jump right into those photographs. And that feeling is something that not every artist can provoke in their audience. So, well done! Haha 🙂

  10. Renee says:

I’m sure there must be aliens somewhere with glittery feet. perhaps Mr. Lovee heard the whispering of a gypsy who told him about the glittery feet. Liv and I must do that one day when she is here. She’s my little glittery girlie.
    Loved your post.
We are headed to the beach on Sunday. So we will have some sandy feet. Do you think that can be as much fun as glittered feet?

  11. Sarah says:

Hi, Vanessa! I am a longtime reader and first time commenter. Your words and pictures have given me so much happiness. Just wanted to say thanks 🙂

  12. Oh there’s definitely a touch of the Fae in you girl… (never mind the aliens!). I imagine that magic flows around you wherever you go leaving a trail of pixie dust and dreams.

  13. O Vanessa! I see a postcard for the future! That also is a SWEET idea for me to do when we go to Vegas in August for my son’s wedding! SoOOOOOooO YOU use paint then glitter for it to stick?!! Does Mr. Lovee do the vacuuuming?!! hehe that could be why he doesn’t especially see the JOY in gold glittered feet!!Anything GYPSY perks up my ears like Matty and Miles ears perk up when they hear YOU calling their names!!

  14. Emalina says:

Ooh I love love love the golden feet, how inspiring! Do you ever have gypsy parties Vanessa, like the halloween or mad tea party ones? I’d be very up for it!

  15. Miss Linda says:

You did it again Miss Vanessa, such a wondrous post. It made me smile. I was working on my party with all of its props and things and nded up getting glitter on my face. That was fun.
Hope You Mr. Lovee and any added guests have an awesome week end.
    Thank you for sharing.

  16. Shell says:

I love your golden glittery feet..so beautiful and magical.
I can hear the faeries dancing in between your words and preparations for the tea party.
Don’t you love summer…this season has a sparkling succulent energy that you want to last as long as it can.

  17. Snow White says:

    Dearest Vanessa,
I love how you are so carefree and independent, mostly because you have zero responsibilities…
Truly, I envy you. You dont have to take care of a bunch of kids. I, however, have to take care of 7 insolent little smatchets who dont know a kettle from an umbrella.
Well, I don’t really have any pets, because that’s what dogs are really, PETS.
My good friend Jasmine was once almost forced to marry Jafar, a creepy old man, who seems to have a certain resemblance to a man of your aquaintance…just saying.
Im only trying to help you dearie. You must not have been one of those prudes who signed the pact in high school…you know the one we sign in health class? No? Maybe you’re too old.
My point you ask? Happiness can be acheived through the simple union of man and woman…You must forgive me, I spend all my spare time watching Say Yes to the Dress with those 7 slobs. I can be a little sentimental sometimes.
When I first met my prince, we married immediately, and then we had children. You know, before you hit that certain age..which is coming soon for you, no?
I hope you will take my words of wisdom to heart, I am only trying to help you. I know you have tried to fill the empty void in your life with dogs instead of children, and it is just sad. Please, dont cry. At least you weren’t poisoned by an apple!
    Sincerely,
    Snow White

  18. Snow White says:

SO sorry, that email was spam. My real email is snowwhite5972@gmail.com
contact me dearie, we can have a nice long chat about your many shortcomings.

  19. (In response to the 2 comments above from “Snow White.”)
    Dear Snow White,
The Whimsical Journey must be so tough for you these days… Seeing as how you stay up nights thinking about me.
Since you stay up late at night pondering my life and worrying about me, I wanted to say this – and perhaps you can learn something…
My life is not an “irony” but instead, made up of choices and awareness. I “chose” my path, how I live it, and the ones I love in it.
One day, when you grow up you will find out that, you can make choices to live the life you want, and you don’t have to drink the Kool-Aid.
    Now, scram.

  20. Satan, Get behind us IN JESUS Name. Anything NOT LOVING YOU just have to think EVIL. You’re always going to have HATERS. Come to the LIGHT Snow White and get rid of that jealous streak drowning YOU in self pity! Your children are your best asset that’s for sure! Now, let’s hope and pray for YOU to see the LIGHT and I think the first thing to do is say I am sorry to our sweet LOVING Vanessa and if YOU can’t do that SCRAM sounds like good advice.

  21. and I think we should all rally around the gypsy wagon!!Vanessa is a JOY and I LOVE her!(((((((((Vanessa, Mr. Lovee, Matty and Miles))))))))))

  22. Kim says:

Yes please….scram Snow White. You seem to have a pretty good life. I mean, you live in a room designed to make you feel like you’re in 19th century London. You seem to keep busy with all sorts of outdoor activities and you love dogs….so why do you have so much spare time on your hands? Why bother coming over to Vanessa’s place to spit insults when your own life is so busy and fulfilling?
    Buh-bye, Snow White.

  23. oh poor Snow White, I would ordinarily not give you the time of day….as Vanessa is so completely capable of taking care of herself. But I would suggest you better occupy your time painting, playing volleyball, reading, dirtbiking, skiing and camping. Surround yourself with what inspires you to be a better person, use your time wiser instead of using a poison pen. Work on your environment – maybe make it look even more 19th century London.Put on pink lipstick, some lace and tulle and be a real lady. It’s not that hard.

  24. Candace says:

Uh — just what IS all this Snow White crap? Sorry but what is it?

  25. Miss Candace,
Snow White is someone who left an unsavory comment under that name. I
    know, annoying 😉
In a message dated 7/15/2012 9:55:54 A.M. US Mountain Standard Time,

  26. Snow White,
Your judgmental words are quite funny to me actually! It’s unfortunate to have people like you ‘thinking’ you are being helpful by hurtful words like you’ve written (but you know deep down your words are not helpful in the least bit). You have ‘chosen’ to have 7 children…that was your ‘choice,’ right? I hope you are not as rude to them as you were to Vanessa. Vanessa may have ‘chosen’ to not have children (but how do YOU know for sure, maybe it isn’t her CHOICE, did you ever think of that?). It is her choice though, to have dogs and treat them and love them as family members, now why do you think it is your place to tell her that is wrong? Aren’t we supposed to love all others as God loves us?
And as far as having ‘zero responsibilities’ is concerned, how would you know what Vanessa’s responsibilities are? You have no clue, truly, what anyone’s responsibilities are just by peeking in on bits and pieces of their life through their blog.
We all come here to Vanessa’s little piece of the world to take in a fresh breath of air from a beautiful person. We come to gain inspiration, have a chat, or learn something new. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but last time I checked, no one MADE you come here…or stay, if you found that is wasn’t your cup of tea! This isn’t a space for negativity and ‘if you have nothing nice to say, you should say nothing at all!’
Vanessa, what I was going to say before happening upon that comment, was that I love the glittered feet! I usually have glitter in my hair or on my face just from being in the studio and sometimes my friends comment on my ‘glitter makeup,’ ha. The pss about mister Lovee knowing about glitter feet cracked me up.
Now, don’t let ‘Snow White’ with no real name, bring you down. You know you are a wonderful person who is making the right choices for YOUR life 😉 😉 We all love you and gain great inspiration from your posts!

  27. I was coming here to leave a comment about how fabulous your glitter feet are, and that if aliens have glitter feet, then beam me up scotty, because I need some stat.. BUT then I read the comments and all I want to know is, what was this contract in health ed class that Snow Shite, I mean White, is talking about? I never signed a contract… no one told me… What’s it a contract for? Do I need to speak to someone about this?
But seriously, knowing you personally, and having you as my big sister has helped me see the world in a fanciful and creative way. I mean, you made our afternoons sitting under a tree with nothing but a cup o noodles and a sprite some of the most adventurous afternoons of my life. That poor Snow White, I can’t imagine being so jealous of someone that it would cause them to react in such an ugly manner. On top of being jealous, what a chicken, too… I mean, fight like a real woman, and if you have something to say don’t hide yourself from the world. Grow some backbone.
Looks like the poison apple left Snow White just as ugly on the inside as her evil step mother is on the outside.

  28. Snow White says:

    Dear everyone,
Wow, you guys are great! Has anyone ever watched that show “What would you do?” Where people create a situation that isn’t good and see how others are going to react, if they will do the right thing? Well, that was kind of what this is. Snow White was an alias created as a sort of test, to see how people would react to mean comments being posted and said about someone as amazing as Vanessa. I was not actually trying to insult you–I actually really enjoy your blog and your life.
To me, this proves that the experiment worked! I left mean comments intended to perhaps insult you, Vanessa, to test my hypothesis: People will stand up for you, and you will stand up for yourself.
I think it’s time to reveal the whole shpeel. All of the amazing supportive comments that backed you up, Vanessa, and shunned me means that you have some really supportive friends.
I’m sorry if I offended anyone with this experiment. I just wanted to see what would happen if someone jumped into this perfect world and sort of bursted the bubble, if you know what I mean. Left a few mean comments to see how people would react–if they wouldn’t do anything, if they would stand up for themselves, etc. And it looks like everyone was pretty outwardly indignant of my comments! Honestly, I found it sort of funny to insult someone like you, Vanessa, because you are just so comfortable with who you are as a person. And then a person like me jumps in and tries to rock your boat, and you don’t get thrown overboard–instead, you become even more grounded and secure in the knowledge that you know who you are, and aren’t going to let some loser like me ruin that. So good for you! And good for everyone else who stood up for Vanessa, and against me!
I hope I didn’t offend anyone too badly! If you’ve ever watched “What Would you Do?” the people who run the show and the actors reveal themselves before anything can get too out of hand. So that’s what I’m doing right now–so that things don’t get too out of hand, haha!
Again, I hope I didn’t offend anyone too badly, and please don’t take any of that stuff said personally. You are all amazing, wonderful people!
If you don’t mind, however, I would like to remain anonymous and continue under the alias Snow White. Thanks everyone for your determined support of Vanessa. I hope you continue to be amazing, strong people who will do anything to support a friend :D.
    Love,
    Snow White

  29. Snow white, you are a loser.

  30. Kim says:

Nope….not for one second do I believe your “What Would You Do” story, Snow White. It was conjured up as an after thought. You are simply an immature girl trying to rock the boat…have a little anonymous power.
Even if it were true…to me, that’s worse! Who the hell are you to come over here and “test” Vanessa and her friends?
Ms. White, did you read ALL the comments? You’re not anonymous. We already know who you are and the name of your blog. We know you’re young, we know you love dogs and draw teapots. We know you live in a room designed to make you feel like you’re in 19th century London. We know only what you’ve allowed your blog audience to know, which is exactly what Vanessa does. She lets us know just exactly how much about her and her life that she wants to share.
I say beat it. Take a hike. Go play “testing games” with your dwarves why don’t ya?
    Truly, you are a loser.

  31. Mister L. says:

OK, it’s time to come clean. I am the creepy old man Ms. Snow White refers to. I thought she’d gotten over my snub. You see Snow and I dated back in 1912. I remember that because it’s the year Arizona became a state. Anyway, I dumped her for Rapunzel, a girl held captive by a great job, but otherwise unfullfilled. Aside from the great job she had great hair & didn’t come with so much ‘baggage’. Those 7 little baggage….ooops! I mean buggers, though, were really a lot of fun. In fact Grumpy wasn’t grumpy at all. He’s hilariously funny. Kind of like Don Rickles. Sleepy is a real nice guy. He wasn’t really sleepy, at all, but back then you couldn’t, perhaps more appropriately, call him ‘Stoner’.
So, Snow…..It seems you’ve become a bit cynical lately. Dark, even. Perhaps you might be called Snow Dark Burgundy, or Forest Green. But that’s another story. By the way, if you’d look before you just stuff food into your face you might not get sick by eating rotten fruit. Bye, Love.
V V, you’re better than Snow, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, my dear Rapunzel and all the other fairy tale girls.

  32. Kim says:

    Heheeeheeehe
    You go, Prince Charming!

Hmmm! Perchance Mister Lovee is from the starry-ethers himself!?? Tee hee….I fear my husband would not care much for glittered feet either, but I myself think them lovely things, indeed!! And your skirt…..BLISS!!!! Wherever did you get such a dainty!?
Your posts are always magic beyond words!!
Family in town this week….having a ball, indeed! ( Maw and Paw and their little pugling, too) & Wishing you all a marvelous Mid July, too!!!
Oh, and congrats~congrats indeedy on the magazine feature…..as always I’m over the moon for you and all your accomplishments!!! Hooooooooray Hooooooorah!!! Miss Tiwst is the Dearest witch in the West, methinks!!

  38. Cameron says:

Wow…that “experiment” was just plain rude.
You are sweet and amazing, Miss Vanessa…and the fact that your Lovee replied as he did was just too cute 🙂

  39. I love all of your posts about gypsies. The photos too are always so lovely. I wonder what my husband might do when I glitter my feet?…………….

  40. pixie says:

I love the glitter feet!! I don’t think I’m that brave but I have decided to try a glitter pedicure! Why not? A little clear polish a couple of shakes of glitter. I have a LOT of colors, I could do a rainbow glitter pedi, maybe try an ombre glitter pedi…oh the possibilities are endless.
And that dear Vanessa, is why I come back to your bloggy home time and time again. To be reminded that the possibilities ARE endless. that I can create a life I love. that I have the capacity by making the choices that are right for ME.

  41. carrie says:

Why is it often human nature to bring negativity to positive/beautiful things? how sad. what a sad life you must live. i feel sorry for you.

  42. carrie says:

on a positive note— omg the glitter feet! u make me want to do this. im halfway there as i have spilled glitter all over the floor from a craft project 🙂 wish there were a way we could all post our glitter feet pictures 🙂

  43. Thank you dear Cameron. I know, the experiment was absurd I agree
    😉
