Fur and Flour (random little days & lots of puppy photos)

Hiya friends!  How are you?  Do you have Monday off?  Mister is here today, and we have oodles of projects on the list.  But, I might disappear and watch a movie.  It was a curious weekend, what with clouds threatening a few raindrops in the dry desert (which they finally let loose last night) – and the urge to bake that said clouds infuse me with…

Pupsie 16

When the clouds let out the rain, Matty goes bonkers.  He LOVES the rain.  I had let Miles and him go out for a little while in the evening rain, when Matty turned up at my office door soaked and smiling…

This is not Matisse (aka Matty) soaked, but him nonetheless :) on one of our morning walks.  With the sun coming over the mountain and washing everything in heavenly white.

Matisse

I am telling you about Matty soaked at the office door, because it led me to wonder where his little brother was (as they are together most of the time)???

I ran, up and over to the front door, to find a creature that I think was Miles, but looked more like a swamp creature, sitting at the front door.

He had so much mud (and twigs) on him, that he was barely recognizable.

With mud even on his eyelashes.

I plunked him into the tub and warmed him up a little, then proceeded to have to jump in with him, and scrub, and condition and then comb out all the twigs and things he had rolled in.

Then he got towel dry, followed by a light warm/cool blow dry.

Pupsie 7

He hated it.

(the blow dry I mean, but it was night and I didn't want him to get sick)

Pupsie 9

He isn't a cry baby, but more of a chirping + growl sound kind of guy.

He is tough.

He was not amused with me.

Pupsie 8

But he looked so cute.

And after he realized how handsome and fluffy he was, he posed for oodles of photos.

🙂

Pupsie 10

Cutie pie, right?

Pupsie 17

I still can't believe we found a perfect littles, to be a part of our family.  He fits in like a missing puzzle piece.

On the baking front….

Pupsie 6

I baked two beautiful hand made from scratch (plus hand kneaded, by me) loaves of Challah.  SO delighted they turned out!  When they came out of the oven, I wrapped one in a crisp white flour sack towel, and delivered it to my neighbor/friend, with one little edge sliced and coated with real butter, for eating right away.

She said she loved it, yay!

I love sharing.

Then yesterday, I was extra rotten.

A despicable girl really.

(A term I often use for myself when I am being extra spoiled and lollygag-ish)

Pupsie 5

You see, I walked myself out to my faux Patisserie, stocked with real treats, made a few choices, and then squealed for lack of having to leave my property, and or pay, to conjure up a few goodies.

There were 3 linzer cookies I made for V-day left.

Pupsie 4

I took one.

Pupsie 3

Then I grabbed my ipod, tuned it to Antony (The Lake)…

And jumped under the covers in my squishy bed.

Pupsie 2

I read the new issue of Vogue, munched, made crumbs and listened.

Cocooned in my own little world, on a cloudy cold Sunday.

Don't you love moments like that in your own little world?

Pupsie 1

I had to finally share my cookie with Mister, and then go find something salty.

I might have to add salted goodies to the Patisserie 🙂

Oh oh, I almost forgot to tell you a cute thing.

Mister Lovee came home the other evening, and I was in the office wrapping up for the day.

When I got to the living room, there was a wooden tiny baby cradle, sitting in the middle of the room.

Mister had thriftventured it.

Miles fit in it perfectly.

But, one week later, Miles was quickly outgrowing it.

Fast forward to now.

He has pretty much outgrown it, one week later.

Pupsie 11

He isn't huge yet.

Still a puppy.

But when we got him he was 5 weeks, and light as air.

And now he is 12 weeks or so?

Not light as air either, haha.

I realized I had to quickly take some photos before it was too late altogether.

The little muffin-cakes obliged.

Thank goodness.

I needed these for the memory banks…

Pupsie 12

And because I hope you won't write me off for being overbearing…

Here are some more puppy photos.

Pupsie 13

I am absorbing every second, as the time with the littles goes by so terribly quickly, and then they are big…

Did I mention that Miles begs for apples and carrots?  And he loves cooked asparagus and cabbage?  I am careful with what I give him, I went over it with his vet and I have a list (and I know everything not to give pups, from seed pits to raisins and more).

But this one LOVES veggies, and Matty looks at him as if he is nuts!

"Whatchup Doc?"

Pupsie

Miles is so rambunctious, we walk around with all sorts of wounds.  Accidentally scratched faces, etc…

Pupsie 14

My baby.

We love him so.

Pupsie 15

Matty loves him too.

Although, Matty is his Mama's super love.  He sees himself as my total protector.

He is by my side no matter what, every second.

I love them both extra oodles.

Matty chocolate 2

He is so quirky and different, that one.

I think I must go hug him now.

By the way, have you spied all the enchanted thoughts in the magazines lately, what with spring on the horizon?  Fantastic!

Enchanted Spring 2011 Victoria and Vogue

Off I go now for now.

See you super soon!

A Sparkly Heart see you soon

ps:  I want to send lots of love to my aunt (Mom's sis) and her family.  You see, my Mom just called to say that my beautiful aunt's elderly cat, whom my aunt adored and had forever, Whiskas, was dragged out of his little house by dogs that got into their yard, and was ever so sadly, killed.  They (my aunt, uncle, little girl and teenage son) tried to save Whiskas from the dogs, but they just couldn't.  It was very dramatic and heart breaking for them.  As we all can imagine.  My aunt and her family are devastated.  We are all very sad.

Sending them oodles of love.

Another reason to hug your furs, now.

Off to hug mine.

As always, love the shots of the new puppy. We finally found the right puppy too…her name is Sasha and she’s a miniture Chaco…half cattle dog and rottie. You can see her on my blog. So awful about the kitty… hugs to you, so glad you tweeted, not nearly enough time in a day to visit every place that you love!

  2. Such beautiful fur babies you raise! Makes me wish that my life had some fur in it (of the canine variety). I will live vicariously through the treat of your pups. Thanks ever so much for sharing.
And so sorry to hear about the kitty. 🙁
    Enjoy the day.
    Erin

  3. Oh Vanessa…
I am so sorry to hear about Whiskas. What a terrible thing to happen.
Wowzee…I can’t believe how quickly Miles is growing. I actually giggled out loud when I saw him sitting in that itty bitty cradle! He looked almost a wee bit humiliated! But, he’s a good sport!
Looks like you will have 2 of the most fabulous gardening pals this year.
Now….on with the Sweet Pea goodness! You’ll be over the moon happy that you popped a few seeds in the ground. You will have colorful and fragrant bouquets for months to come. Enough even to share with your neighbors.

  4. Omg that’s so awful about your aunts cat! So sorry for their loss. Btw ive followed your blog for two plus years: you inspire me to not feel guilty about my need to play with childish things, make doll houses etc. I would love if you could add me to your list of blogs you recommend. I started this about my fictional world and it’s characters, all of whom live on Loganberrylane.bloodspot.com

  5. Such a completely sad ending to such a delightful little story. I’m so sorry to learn of that poor cats demise…in such cruel circumstances. *what can I say?*
On a much brighter note though, Vanessa, I think your little fur boy is quite beautiful. In fact, utterly beautiful. It’s so nice to know that you are spending so much time remembering to enjoy him and Matty. Time spent doing what you love, is never wasted.
Oh, and your Imaginary Patisserie is amazing. How much of the stuff in it is non-edible?? or visa versa? It reminded me of a fabulous Patisserie that is down the road from here, about 10 minutes away. It used to sell THE BEST danish pastries EVER! I could never drive past, without huge temptation to purchase one…I mostly found an excuse to stop in. Then the lovely lady who owned it with her husband, went through a divorce and then sold the shop to some chinese people (who DID NOT know how to make a danish)Very sad actually, as I still have not found anywhere that makes them as good 🙁
The shop has a wonderful name though…
It is called ‘The Little Nut Tree Patisserie’ and it has that little nursery rhyme and a cute drawing, written on a large permanent black board thingy…you know, the poem about the little nut tree and the King of Spains daughter.
Anyway, your wonderful creative space is just that…WONDERFUL. So bright and cheery and whimsical. Thanks for sharing your creative craziness with us here in the Land of Blog. It makes me feel not so strange, what with OUR ‘Secret Enchanted Forest’ and all.
Yes I know you are , and I quote: “a bit stinky” when it comes to returning comments or visits…but it would be so nice if you did try 🖤

  6. **sigh** YOU, my beloved Magical Muse, Queen of the wandering Gypsies, and New Age Hippie, are all things good and light. Pure JoY is what you are to me, Pure JoY. Wonderful, delightful shots of the baby. **blows kisses** Deb

  7. Miles is so cute!
I think the look on his face in a couple of photo looks like he is saying “Ma! What did you do to me???” after having his bath. He looks like he has been betrayed…kind of forlorn like, “I’m never, ever going to go roll in the mud, ever, ever again…I promise!” He does look so adorable in the baby cradle, with his puppy dog eyes. And he munches vegetables…that should keep him very healthy. Matty looks very content. I think he knows he’s still mom’s favorite.
    hugs,
    Miss Teresa

  8. Oh, and your poor Aunt’s kitty. That is so very, very sad. My sweet friend Yvonne, lost her sweet kitty to a coyote. Poor kitties…

  9. Renee says:

Oh, what a horrible thing to happen to your aunts cat. Sadly there are some mean dogs out there. Too bad they aren’t all as cute and loveable as yours.
You are watching your puppy grow so quickly. Kids and dogs do that to you. I’ve been thinking about how my little grand is going to be 9 in just a few weeks. It seems like yesterday when she was just a baby. And has it really been almost 35 years since her mommy was born?

  10. Alia says:

Oh no, poor Whiskas! I am such a softie about animals even when I don’t know them, I got a little teary when I read that. I think I need to hug my furries extra now. Your boys are just the sweetest things ever, those photos are adorable! I want a dog to go with my kitties very badly.
ps. The colors of your rugs are so lovely, I want some!
pps. Just discovered the most delicious bbq place in Catalina called Bubb’s Grub this weekend. I love barbecue!! (also went to the Golden Goose again, they are right next door to each other!)
ppps. I am doing a giveaway of some Chantilly goodies, so feel free to stop by and enter if you would like.

  11. Jaime says:

OH how tragic.. poor poor kitty and family 🙁
ahh… to be your lucky neighbor. You are kinda terrific, did you know that?
Your baby is quite the ham and for good reason. You have some awesome photos of him! I instantly thought of toilet paper… haha
    Jaime

  12. linnea-maria says:

Miles is a so cute dog and he has a very expressful face. I can see he is not amused by the shower he had.
Poor Whiskas, a loss of a family member is always hard and even harder to loose someone in that violent way.
Whish you a lovely week with your fabulous patisserie. Looking forward to see more of it /Therese

  13. Sarah says:

Oh poor Whiskas. That is so awful. I don’t think I could recover from that. I went to the vets today and there was a lady there with a lovely lively dog. It turned out she had found her and brought her to the vets to see what to do. The dog was microchipped so the vet lady rang the owner-who said she didn’t want her! There are tragedies in the animal world just as horrible as in the human. At least we have Miles and Matty to look at-such beautiful photos! Off to play with Cassie now-she is VERY bored as I am eating my breakfast! xx

  14. stacy says:

Ohhhh Vanessa. Miles is still so puppy beautiful. I know you’re proud. Rocky is going through his gawky stage right now. Kind of like a 7th grade boy. All legs, tripping over his own feet. Good grief, I love my dorky little dog.
Have a fantasical day and EAT ONE OF THOSE COOKIES FOR ME!!!!

  15. Miss Lori says:

Such adorable puppy pictures! Love those boys! Sadly, we are not allowed dogs in our conods here, but I do have one fat, fluffy, loveable cat who is a very important part of this family. I am very saddened to hear of your aunt’s loss. 🙁

  16. dogsmom says:

Such a sad note about the kitty, Sending hugs and wishing her a safe and swift journey across the rainbow bridge.
Yes, if you want to catch your baby in the cradle I would say shoot those photos now. Another week and he’ll never fit!
We are still having snow and I dread the couple weeks of mud before spring truly arrives – especially with lighter color dogs.

  17. Victoria says:

    Yay…what a super beautiful post..your pups are gorgeous..you are so lucky..magical photos..such furry angels!! Sorry about your Aunt’s cat((hugs)).
Beautiful dazzling treats..your whole post sparked my heart..inspiring! Shine on..and thanks for all the magic you share! Love the enchanted forest…totally me ha ha!
    Hugs and sparkles
Victoria~ wishing you a sparkling week!

  18. Theresa says:

I am so terribly sorry to hear about Whiskas – I send my condolences to your aunt and her family. {{hugs}} I absolutely LOVED seeing all the photos of your beautiful baby boy (well, both of them, really). Miles is getting SO big! What a cutie. 🙂 They do grow so fast – I remember when we first got her, my Willow fit in the palm of my hand! My babies still love their carrots and apples. And they BEG my hubby for almonds!!! LOL Neo says hello, by the way. 🙂 I just got the new Victoria magazine in the mail – I have yet to open it and savor the beautiful Enchanted Forest spread – but I’m SOOO excited. Have a fabulous night, dear Vanessa!!!! xoxo Theresa

  19. Gillian says:

So very sorry about Whiskas, that is a tremendous and tragic loss. My heart sank when I read that. Give your family my love and sympathies. Yes a curious weekend it was. But like you I can turn to family, movies, food and my home. 🙂
Your doggies are delightful and what a treasure they are! Aren’t they a joy?? I thought of you this weekend because I went round and dusted all my beautiful and unique art treasures from your shop! You bring my home tremendous colour and joy with your art. So thankful for you and all you do!
    Lots of love V,
    Gillian xo

  20. Laura S. says:

There can never be enough puppy pictures as far as I’m concerned! Purrs to your aunt and her family – very sad.

  21. Miss V,
Oh tell Matty that I love the rain too, and Miles that I understand playing in the mud can be so much fun.
I love the way he looks at you in the pictures….like
“my mommy is sooooo crazy, but she thinks I am sooooooo cute”
“Yep she’s a nut with the camera, but I’ll pose for her cause she loves me, and I love her.”
That is just what I am getting out of some of those pics. 🙂
They are precious and I am running off to give my Big Girl “Nanuk” a big ole furry hug of love now as well.
In about 6 more weeks we should have some fuzzy bundles of joy from our Little first time Mommy as well.
    Have lots of Furry Fun!
    wishes and whimsy

  22. michelle says:

Oh your puppers is so cute! So sad for your aunt, so horrible! I am here to beg for your Challah recipe. I had one I loved years ago but when I transcribed it into a new cookbook I messed it up and it has never been right since. I swear I remember you saying you were going to post one awhile ago. I hope I didn’t imagine it and you will share! Hugs!

  23. He’s so fluffy and cute I might die!!!

All three boys are too precious for words (especially the kind soul who brought the cradle). xoxox

  25. Tara Bradford says:

P.S. Terribly sad about your aunt’s dear pet. xoxox

  26. Katharine says:

Awww, sorry to hear about your Aunt’s cat. We have coyotes so I don’t let my cat’s outdoors. If I do it is just for a few minutes in the garden, with one of us there. I tell them they look like Thanksgiving to a Coyote (they are big cats).
    I digress….
Miles looks soulful in some of the pictures… just adorable!

  27. Linda Diane says:

I’m playing catch up because of internet issues I had earlier in the week! How fun to shop in your faux–with a magical sprinkling of REAL– patisserie! Just don’t get the fauxs confused with the reals. Maybe you should make use of Post-It notes, y’know, just so you won’t get confused and break a tooth or sumpin. Eeeek!
I love the puppsy photos, especially the one with Miles’ head cocked a bit to the side whilst being made to pose in his diminutive bed. 😀 “Now remind me,” he seems to be saying. “I am in this ridiculous bed WHY?” Hee hee. “Because you look so adorable, yes you do, you cute little Milesy Wilesy,” you replied. Yes, I’m sure that’s the way it happened.
Not wanting to leave out that big bro, Matty, let me say that I love that pic of him lying on his back with squinty closed eyes! He looks like he is in such a state of bliss.
I am also heartbroken over the loss of Whiskas, and the terrible way he died. And to think that your aunt witnessed it. Just horrible. Please tell your aunt how sorry we are. My brother lost his cat a few years ago in a similar attack. So sad.

  28. Monofoil says:

I cannot begin to properly express how much I like the photos of your puppy!!!
