Hello friends! I am so delighted to share a Little Paper House love with you today. You see, I am ever so thankful that you stop in from time to time, to visit with me. A Fanciful Twist is my virtual home, and its doors are always open to you…
Something I have not shared is that (for the past few months) I have been working on two projects. One has been sent off, and the bigger more detailed and complex one, I am still working on. Last week was a challenging week, but I remind myself often to just go with the flow, keep the faith, and continue to work hard. Then everything else will fall into place. I am almost there, with a couple more weeks of work to go, and a deadline to meet.
I usually keep such things to myself – but sometimes it is important to share that, a huge part of what brightens my days, is this space here. Through your words, I imagine your smiling faces. And, for you to go out of your way to share your words with me, is something I cherish more than I can express…
Thank you for taking the time to play, and for believing in the magic of the imagination…
As you may know, I like to share little gifts with you from time to time, such as with free treats & tutorials.
Usually, the inspiration of what to gift you with, comes to me on an unexpected whim. As did, the Little Paper House.
So, let's jump in and I shall share my steps, and a free printable pdf to help you create your own little paper house.
CLICK ON THIS LINK FOR YOUR FREE PRINTABLE PDF
Once you have printed out your PDF (preferably on card-stock), it will look like the image below…
Next, cut out all six squares (4 sides, 2 roof), making sure you cut "outside" the grey lines. Then, tape the "sides" together… (I used clear heavy-duty packing tape)
Fold each seam, to form a box, and tape it closed…
(Make sure you form your box with the printed sides, inside the box)
Then, take the two "roof" pieces and tape them together in the center, folding them to form a pitched roof.
Now, you will simply take your roof, and tape it to two "sides."
It should look like this…
Note that all the printed "side" and "roof" pieces are inside the box. Also, it is a bottomless box, but you can always make a bottom if you choose, out of anything you wish.
There you have it. Now the super fun part begins with embellishing. I used all sorts of scrap papers I had, and hot glued them onto the outside walls of the house (smoothing the hot glue from the inside with a popsicle stick).
I also hot glued moss to the roof, and cut out a little book page to fit in the roof openings. Then I created awnings, again with the help of hot glue. (Please do be very careful if you use hot glue)
The final thing I did to mine is that, I used a discarded wooden box lid as my base, and glued moss to it. I also glued a few mushrooms to the moss, and used peridot green glitter to create a path to the front door, on the moss…
There you have it, your very own Little Paper House…
With much love, from my little house, to yours 😉
I do hope you have a chance to make some of these. And, if you would like to share photos of your little paper house, do send them my way and I will post them ~
For today, I must get back to work on my project. When it is complete, I will let you know many more details 😉
Have a super lovely day!! Thanks again, for being so delightful!
See you soon ~
🖤 ,V
ps: I gifted my little house to my Mammie for Easter 😉
pss: Yesterday I thought I was having the oddest dizzy spell in my garden, but it turns out I was feeling the earthquake that hit near Mexicali yesterday. Quite an unusual thing in Southern Arizona. Eeeks!
psss: Little House Updates ~ I will post any little houses that you make, and send me photos of (using the above tutorial).
I received some lovely photos from a truly kind soul, Julie Marie of Idyll Hours. This is her little Paper House Below. It is for her three little fairies ;) Thank you Miss Julie Marie, your house is precious!!

Oh my goodness, Vanessa! This is TOTALLY adorable. Thank you very, very much. I saved the file (I’m out of cardstock right now), but I will be making one soon for my inspiration table. Love it, love it, love it!!! Thanks again for your generosity. 🙂 xoxo Theresa
That is really sweet. Reminds me that I used to do this by covering both small milk cartons and tissue boxes with my middle school students. Except we did gingerbread houses. Easily adaptable for all that scrapbook paper I hoard and don’t play with! Thanks for your generosity Miss V!
Enjoy the day! Erin
very fun – I’ll let you know when I finish mine up!
Ridiculously adorable. I’m sure the fairies and gnomes would move right in. I love how you beckon the inner Roo to come play, with fun crafts and projects that even she-who-is-no-longer-allowed-to-be-left-alone-with-glueguns can do!
And eeeks! I am glad you survived the quake!! You could commemorate it by making a little house off-centered!
🙂 Happy Days & Hang in!

Hello dear Vanessa… oooh, I so love the little house! It looks like the perfect little cottage for a fairy…infact, the Fairy~Wing sisters took one look and asked that I might make them each one of their very own… I will have Jack download the file for me, as he is much better with those types of things than I am, then I am off to get some more cardstock and packing tape… Violette Plum Orchid Fairy~Wing thought it would be sooo nice of me to make she and her sisters each their own little fairy house… so I shall! Hopefully, they will turn out and I will email you photos, as the girls miss you so terribly much besides! I took several photos of them out on my porch this morning by my Heartsease… they also asked if I might email those to you as well… I do believe they are missing the warmth of the desert, as it is cold here today and 10-12 inches of snow predicted… most fairies do not like that much snow when it is supposed to be Springtime here! I wondered if you had felt the earthquake as I heard it was felt in Arizona too… glad you were not having a dizzy spell… love to you… will email photos soon… xoxo Julie Marie, Violette Plum Orchid Fairy~Wing, Evangeline Twinklestar Fairy~Wing and Aurelia Sweet Blossom Fairy~Wing

Dearest Miss Vanessa
The little house is adorable! Thank you for the pdf. It will be fun decorating them for little fairies to live in.
Well…I was walking into my kitchen on Sunday afternoon, and all of a sudden I went sideways, like what is going on? I heard about the earthquake hours later and figured it had caused me to get ‘dizzy’ It was a very odd feeling and caused me to get a strange headache. But I’m OK now. It must have affected my equilibrium.
Oh, well, life has unexpected turns sometimes. I am just so happy that spring is here! The air is fresh and clear today since the nice rain we had.
XOXO
Teresa
Why it’s a wee little Faerie dwelling and were I so small I would make it home in a twinkling of an eye…so sweet, one can not resist ;-).
Ooh the earthquake! Did you know there’s a volcano near Mexicali? It’s been rumbling for a while now and has my poor mommie in fits. She’s deathly afraid of earthquakes. My little cottage swayed for what seemed like 2 minutes and my poor panicked sister called during the shaking (she lives 19 miles from the epicenter). 6 inches of water was sent splashing out of her pool and all her pictured landed on the floor. YIKES!
I hope you have a lovely day my beloved friendling. Oh, isn’t Darling Deb funny, quiting her job and all? I say, “good for
her and let the adventure begin.
Bye for now and xoxox

I would love to live there if I were only a little paper dolls with a cute pink outfit on. ;o)
Love the MOSS!
Oh what memories I have of making things with moss when I was growing up!
Nothing like finding a good piece of moss!
We have LOTS of green moss here in the Northwest!
It’s almost too pretty to disturb.
Happy Happy Day!
And good luck on your projects!
Looking forward finding our more!

So cute – thank you so much for the tutorial – I could just while away the hours daydreaming in that little house today! Hope you had a beautiful Easter xxx
This is lovely!!!! Thank you so much for this and for being there as well.
To read your blog and feel your magic is just wonderful
🙂
What a sweet paper house. I love the idea with the moss on the roof. These would be the sweetest fairy homes. There is a place nearby in Maine, an island actually where the entire island is covered in fairy houses. People visit there and are able to create them. I think it is a perfect place for you and Mr. Lovee to visit.
Sending you inspiration and energy to finish you project.
Karen
P.S. Vanessa, there is a new book coming out on the Fairy houses of coastal Maine.

I made a little house like this, must have been 13 years ago. I used the top of an empty milk carton, though. I remember it quite clearly because my 6 month old son got a hold of a paper scrap and tried to eat it when I wasn’t looking. I turned around and his face was white and his lips were turning blue. Blue is my favorite color, but not for babies lips.
I was feeding my new baby on Sunday in my mom’s meditation room when I saw an indoor windchime moving and the blinds were swaying back and forth. I thought the a/c had come on, but it wasn’t. Then I figured it must be a ghost in the room or something spooky making everything move. I walked out of the room and my mom said, “did you feel the earthquake?” Oh … that’s what it was!!
Waht a wonderful little house, I shall make it with my daughter 🙂
I came here via Crow Farm and I adore your blog. Will visit again and again.
Hi my nice virtual friend! That is really sweet!!!I love that house!
I was in Usa!!! woooo hooooo!!!!I love it!
Visit me anytime;)
xoxo
I am so in love with all things miniature! I just want to shrink myself and walk inside that house and wave from the window. I used to love to make little “log cabins” out of twigs on the moss under the big oak trees at my Dad’s farm. Next time I go I’ll have to make one again!
Love it!~D
Get under a table next time you feel an earthquake. Keep safe my little extrovert friend.
xo
a lover of fairy houses myself, i have to say these paper dwellings are enchanting.
I love your paper house…unfortunately mine looked like it had been made by a five year old haha…but I had such fun doing it so I dont care…creating imperfectly is fun…thankyou for a fun filled afternoon xx
Your paper house is totally adorable! Thanks so much for sharing it and the tutorial. When I finally finish unpacking boxes ~ I do think I will finish one day 😉 ~ I would love to make one.

Vanessa:
The house is absolutely magical. I dream of shrinking, down, down, down and stepping over the threshold of this wee paper pretty. Wouldn’t it be a wonderful cottage to live in, to create art in, and to cook in? Oh, I love it!
You probably don’t remember me telling you this previously, but I have a terrible ear condition called Benign Positional Labyrinthitis. It cases dizzy spells and such. When the earthquake hit on Sunday, I thought I was having a dizzy spell as well!! It took me a few minutes to get my wits about me. I’m in Southern California, so earthquakes are common here. THAT earthquake lasted longer than any I’ve ever felt.
