Cozy Little Holiday Times…

I can't believe it is this time of year, can you?  It is cold, there are Christmas carols playing, cozy little nooks to tuck into, fresh scents a plenty, but it hasn't quite sunk in.  You?

Christmas Cottage 8

It's rainy, and these days, it becomes night so early.  I grab something warm and head to the cottage…

Christmas Cottage 9

Night finds us ever so quickly…

Christmas Cottage 1

It is so warm and cozy and festive, this wee cottage.

Or maybe it's that, a tiny cottage makes any time of the year feel festive?

That must be the trick about little houses, yes yes.  I do believe that is the case.

Christmas Cottage 11

There are still some finishing touches to be made inside.  However, we have been so busy with the bigger vegetable garden building (check off list), and other crazy projects, that we just have not had the time to wrap it all up…

Christmas Cottage 13

Secretly, I am not in a huge hurry.  I still sneak inside where it is warm, and cozy, and I…

Christmas Cottage 3

I pretend my heart away.

I dream, I imagine.

Safe, in my little cottage…

Christmas Cottage 6

Under rainy cloudy starlit skies…

Christmas Cottage 7

I crawl into my little nook, and dream of the possibilities.

It is never too late to dream dreams that might come true.

Never.

I dream of miniature ponies, and bountiful vegetable gardens.  I dream of paintings and hugging my pups.  Then I dream of puppies 🙂

I am puppy obsessed more than ever.  Warm little furry babies.

I dream of gifts to make and bake…

Christmas Cottage 12

And, I'll confess this…

Visions of sugar plums still dance in my head, what about yours?

If you need me, come knock on my door…

😉

Love, V

A sparkly heart

ps:  I think I have puppy of the brain because of this wee tale I have to share…

You see, a friend (who I have known for 10 years or more) shared a life with her beloved dog for many many years.  One day (several months ago), she lost him, and was ever so sad.  She wrote me in her sadness, I shared my tale about losing Baby.  It helped her a little I think.

Then she wrote to me a couple weeks ago to tell me that a baby puppy turned up in her back yard.  They (her and her children) believe in their heart of hearts that this baby puppy was meant to come to them (I believe this to be so true).

They named her –

"Birdie (Isabella Lucy Bird) after the wonder woman, 19th century explorer who explored the Rocky Mountains alone on horseback and various parts of the world, too!"

And so, here she is.  Birdie, the miracle baby.  I personally think she was left by a stork, this baby in fur footed jammies…

Ready to faint?

Birdie

Oh my, puppy puppy puppy LOVE!

What a little angel! I can’t believe that puppy just turned up in your friend’s yard, so adorable :). Looks like a beagle. I had a beagle for nearly 10 years and he passed away about 6 years ago when I was 14. He was our precious best friend and we were so sad about his loss. Seeing this little fella just makes me think of him, he had a black face too when he was a baby. So sweet.
I love your cottage Vanessa, I have been dying to see the inside since you unveiled it at the Mad Tea Party. It’s beautiful 🙂
    Lots of love,
    Jenn

  2. Ann says:

What a darling puppy! My girl is Izzybelle, a wonderful Jack Russell mix whose mama was a pregnant stray rescued by a no kill shelter. Little Izzy was born in the shelter and found her way to me through some twists and turns in her sweet little life. I was convinced the very minute I saw Izzy that she was truly meant to be mine. She and I bonded immediately and she is truly my best friend. Dogs are such wonderful companions! I also have a sweet, sweet cat who was a stray and is an angel as well. There is just something so special about dog love. There is nothing like loving and being loved by a dog. Dog love is friendship, loyalty, devotion, appreciation, happiness. Congratulations to your friend for finding the puppy. She was meant to be theirs. I’m sure of it!

  3. What a lovely little cottage for cozy dreaming. And your friend’s new puppy is adorable. I, too, admire Isabella Bird.

  4. Jessica says:

Oh Vanesssa! I dream of sugarplums. I have to say that I agree with you–it doesn’t feel as though Christmas is almost upon us! Dream of cotton candy clouds and a cupcakery and…oh my! They dance in my mind so joyfully 🙂 And lately I have been obsessed with tiny cottages like yours and kitties instead of puppies. (But puppies are adorable too 🙂
    Birdie is adorable 🙂
    Have a wonderful holiday!

    Hugs,
    Jamie 🙂

  10. Linda Diane says:

Oh my goodnesses! How I wish I could snuggle that precious little Birdie. She looks like sweetness personified. Look at that soft pink belly!
Thank you for the glimpse of your Christmas cottage. It makes me dream of having one of my own. I am so eagerly anticipating being able to peek inside.
The Christmas season ALWAYS whisks by much too quickly! I wish we had at least an extra couple of weeks to appreciate the decor, the lights, the Christmas spirit, the opportunity to provide Christmas treats to others.
You made mention in your last post that more of your little sculptured creatures would make an appearance. Just wondered if you had any idea when that might be? I won’t hold ya to it. Just wondered if it is days or weeks? Anyway, just thought I would ask. ; )
Santa’s workshop is in full swing here! Must get back to it!

  11. Sarah says:

Yes Christmas is coming so quickly! Your little cottage looks like the perfect place to curl up and dream.
Your puppy tale at the end is so sweet-and that has to be one of the cutest puppies I have ever seen! Those back legs like a little kangaroo and that little round tummy! I am so glad the puppy arrived for your friend.

  12. What a sweetie! Your cottage looks enchanting, Vanessa! I can see how it draws you in. Merry Christmas to you and Mr. Lovee {and the fur babies, too}!

  13. Tara says:

I just love your site. It’s so inspiring and lovely. Same with your positive attitude. It’s contagious. 🙂 Hope you have a beautiful Christmas!

  14. Rachel says:

Your cottage does look very cosy. I often dream of minature ponies too, although somebody told me the other day about minature donkeys, now they get included in my dreams also. 🙂
Such a sweet little puppy and what a magical story. I’m not surprised you have puppy of the brain. xx

  15. Vanessa, thank you for sharing the puppy story. The picture is SO adorable! Many wishes to you and your sweet family for a Very Merry Christmas! Twyla

  16. Miss Linda says:

This is a great story…ment for all to learn. There are many mircles that happen all year long, we just have to recognise them before they pass us by. This one was ment to be.

  17. Beautiful Linda Diane, okay, so, secret tale… I am hoping to have New
Years Elves, if all works out ;)))

  18. I’m now craving hot chocolate..yummmmmmmy
Birdie the baby fur baby is soooo cute with her pink round puppy tummy and two tan spots for eyebrows. This fur baby is all set for much personality.
    Have a great day,
    Always, Queenie

  19. Marjorie says:

Puppy love indeed! What a dearie!! And your tiny little Christmas Cottage!!! OH SWOOON! If only my house were so sweet and dainty!! 🙂 (Well….I suppose it is ‘dainty’ or at least in size, not so much in style…tee hee). But it’s home…and that’s all that matters! : )
Happy Almost Christmas to You and Lovee and your Pup!!

  20. m says:

That puppy is so cute I’m swooning! I just want to kiss her pink belly and smell her breath. One of my favorite smells of all time is puppy breath. Am I a weirdo, or do others feel the same way I wonder?
A few months back you had a post about a lost dog. I wonder if this is the same family? What a miracle that a new little love was sent into their lives.

  21. Hi M,
I know!! Puppy breath and puppy love is the bestest!! Sadly,
this is not the same family. Totally different folks. My friend
before had a missing girl dog that they never found. This familys boy
doggie passed away, and the puppy turned up. However, I am trying to
convince my friend whose girl dog disappeared to get a puppy for her son
    🙂 I am a puppy advocate 😉

  22. Cameron says:

What a sweet puppy….I adore puppies!!! We were debating what little furry lovebug to add to our family this Christmas…puppy or kitten.
We decided on the latter…and have been giggling with her playful antics for 2 weeks now 🙂
    I still want a puppy, too…one day!

  23. Oh! What an adorable puppy!
I have a funny story to tell. In junior high, when the Beatles had just begun to be popular, a lot of kids thought the Beatles were singing ‘That’s puppy love! Baby, that’s puppy love.’ When in fact they were singing ‘Can’t buy me love! Baby, can’t buy me love.’ Isn’t it funny when kids have such innocent hearts all they can think of is ‘Puppy Love’??? Hee! hee! Thought you would like that little 1960’s memory.
You cottage is so divine. Growing up, we had a little house behind our own huge house on my parents property which we would use for our Haunted House at Halloween. We would decorate it and cover all of the windows and have ghoulish things lying about in the dark. We used grapes than we had taken the skins off in a bowl of watered down catsup. We would tell our friends to ‘touch the eyeballs in blood’ Ha! Ha! More memories you have brought to me today. I think the girls in our family did have a few tea parties in the little house too, and we also had puppet show in a little alcove cupboard we could climb into with a curtain attached. What wonderful childhood fun we had. Those were the days…
But that puppy! So happy he found your friend.
    What a sweet story.
    Miss Teresa

  24. Ooops! I guess Birdie is a SHE! What a lucky puppy!

  25. Theresa says:

Oh what a sweet little pup!!!! It WAS meant to be – I believe that!!!!! A holiday miracle. 🙂 Thank you for sharing that tale. It brought tears to my eyes. I simply cannot see sweet little pups without wanting to add more to my brood – but I must be sensible! LOL I’ve been making and baking, too. All is coming to a head – the kitchen has been smelling amazing – and the gifts packaged with care and shipped off. I’m eagerly awaiting for the magical event. Happy Solstice tomorrow! xoxo

Cute puppy. Sounds like she found a great new home.
I finished my shopping today. And went to the store for the things we needed for Christmas day dinner. (I’m working Christmas eve).
I’m making a batch of gingerbread so when I go pick up my grand we can bake cookies today.
I’ve been listening to Christmas music for weeks. I have trees up, my momma’s first Christmas tree is in my den, and I’m determined to find something good and happy and joyful every single day.

  28. Sara says:

Aww, what a beautiful story!!!!! The puppy was meant to be!!! Happy Holidays,Sara
