This is going to be strange. So, strap in and make sure you have your helmet on. Yes, Caught a Light Sneeze, today's title, is a reference to Tori. I will get to that in a second though, because, remember that bikini weather we were having? 90+ degrees? (I painted a mascot, Ha)
It made things bud and multiply. Then, the strangest thing happened. The weather got gloomy. Just as I was on my way to the post office. Yippeee!!!! I love the post office now!!!
So, the weather got really gloomy and the winds were out of control. 20 degree drop in weather!!Needless to say, the sneezing and slight coughing were on at full speed. You should have heard Mr. Lovee's sneezes. They could make a house tremble. Not a light sneeze at all…But, let me just say, I am not complaining in the least! I adore this rainy weather, it makes me feel so cozy. More special than that, it brought in quite the sunset. Straight from heaven, I'd say.
Can you believe that sky? Those photos are straight from my camera, no enhancing. Nature can be so exquisite!!
Okay so, if you don't mind, I'd like to switch speeds completely. I have a trouble in my mind. I went to check my e-mail today and I found this (below), which was sent from http://www.toriamos.com/ (is it okay to post such a pic? hope I don't get in trouble! yikes!) It is regarding Tori's new album, American Doll Posse.
I am the first to admit that I am a die-hard Tori Amos fan. Especially the 90's stuff and the b-sides. Being a piano player myself makes me admire her completely. However, I am concerned. I love her, and I just don't know what to make of "the girls" who inhabit the songs in the new album. Do you find that sometimes when you have bonded with early work and personal style of your favorite artist your heart aches for the past??? Mine does. I am sure Stiletto Heights knows what I am feeling. As she tends to bond quite deeply with characters.
I guess I am being melodramatic. I wonder if Tori ever did wear that piece I gave her??? Like I have said… maybe it never even made it into her hands??? So, I always like Tori's work. I also understand that things change, people grow and mature, have children, husbands….And, at some point we all grow up. I guess I will always hope that the quirky things that make her so wonderful and enhance her work, never change. No matter how much her personal stylist tries to change her outerlook. Although, she is quite the fashionable lady on her own. So maybe she makes her own style choices, which would be outrageously interesting! Example of her wonderfulnness mid-song below!!!
Any opinions? Or did I lose y'all on that one?? Ha!
I am staying up until the wee hours of the night trying to make some Bonjour posters to hang in my teensy gallery. There is glue on everything I own…I am a master decoupager (so humble). A few years ago I got a hold of everything I own and it either had newspaper or dictionary pages or vintage paraphernalia on it…But between the phone ringing all night and my CD skipping….I was a hilarious disaster.
Cheers to a strange mid-week post!!!! xxo,Vanessa

Hey toots!
I don’t know if I told you this, but I too am a recovering Toriphile. I love her very much…but I just couldn’t get behind The Beekeeper, and thus, the divorce proceedings began. My friend Faith, who is an even bigger fan, emailed me with this cryptic message a few weeks ago:
“American Doll Posse?!? What the F***?
Oh my god, I’m just imagining some unholy marriage of the American Girl Dolls and Insane Clown Posse.”
I had no idea what she was talking about then, but after seeing that image, I think I do. Oh, Tori. “You can tell me it’s over…and it’s over/You can tell me over and over”.
I used to love Tori Amos but I haven’t listened to anything since the 90s either. I like that new picture of her though, it’s intriguing, just not so sure about the ‘American doll posse’ title… On the other hand, I’m unconditionally loving your new painting, I love those flat, saturated colours.
Holy amazing sky!!! And I love your bikini-clad gal. It’s tough when an artist that you know and love for so long changes direction, especially when you haven’t heard from them in years and remeber them as they once were. You’ll always have the memories…
OH NO…..TORI!!!
That picture hurts me, it really does…It’s like she’s whoring about town with the Pussy Cat Dolls.
I was/am a total Tori nut, as any woman who was in her teens and 20’s in the 1990’s can attest too.
Le sigh. I love the sunset pictures, the colours are just heartbreaking! I was a long time 2nd party Tori fan, several very loved friends who were all gaga for her. I also think she’s wonderful, but I tend to stay away from here because she speaks more to the dark parts of me which I’d really just rather not wallow in, if you know what I mean. I guess that’s why I was a perky wacky Bjork fan instead 🙂
I’m too ancient to even know who she is. But I know who you are…a great artist!
What you are talking about makes me think of Joey Lawrence who went from being so hot to being so not…as in that ballroom dancing thing *bald* and gi-rating. YUCKY.
And your horizon photos are just beautiful Vanessa!
Heyyy! I’m stoked to see a dark haired gal in your art!!! Dark hair rulz, heh heh!
And I love your last piece there – uh huh! That’s fabulous!! I love the “paper pieced” background and all the extra paper and of course the girly, but yes, that one’s so fine!!
Nature CAN be quite exquisite! Those sunset photos are amazing! Wow!
xo,
Karen Beth 🙂
If you are covered in glue, does that mean if I hug you, we’ll stick together? ‘Cause, that’d be interesting. 😀 I love the rainbow pictures! What a gorgeous sight! And the painting at the end is quite lovely, too, my dear!
Hmmmm, was she inspired by some Cindy Sherman-esque whimsy on that poster? I must admit though I am a fan, I lost touch with her work. I tend to adore most ethereal female vocal artists but always go back to my 2 best goddeses,Kate Bush and Elizabeth Fraser(Cocteau Twins),and I listen to those 2 artists (plus a healthy dose of Brian Eno) daily.
Love the new painting/collage! Oh yes,if you ask me what Spice Girl I am,I would have to answer Decoupage Spice!
that’s a cute bikini…i’d like one like that for myself! please! and i love paintings and drawing on newsprint. love, swoon…and decoupage. i’ve gone through intense decoupaging periods in my life. it is addictive.
ps-this post isn’t strange, at least not any stranger than normal. 🙂 hee hee.
That sunset picture is Print-and-frame-me beautiful! Amazing colors and a rainbow to boot! I am hoping you are going to continue listing etsy stuff, I have been having problems with my paypal account and still want a treasure!
I love the last piece you did…oh it’s fabulous! And the glue is worth it for all the decopauge isn’t it? I love working with paper stuffs…
And the skies in AZ are amazing…we are so very lucky aren’t we? The view from our windows are quite good at any given time of day. I guess that’s why AZ Highways has stayed in biz. all these years…
smoocharoo!!
What a sky!! What a sunset!! And I LOVE your Madigoliani’esque bikini girl….
I need help with a decoupage like question re: my post today.
Musically, I lean geezerly. I love some Dino and Frank and a bit of ole Louis blowing his beautiful horn and those guys are dead so they don’t change on me, but if they did… I would probably be annoyed as all heck because I hate change to a point. Like once my husband asked what my dream car would be and I said, “I am driving my dream car because you know..I’m used to it…. except… wouldn’t it be lovely if it was Robin Egg Blue!!!” Like that. Love ya Vanessa– you make me smile! And, I love your beautiful sunset with the double rainbow. I hope everyone see it. How glorious… the English Language fails me here! And, I adore your fancy face with the decoupage. Sometime when you are less busy, maybe you could do a step by step tutorial on the decoupage thing. I am just getting into it a bit and could use a few tips if have any great ones. I always like the pretty patterns on paper napkins and they kind of fall apart on me. Best of the best wishes… Tiffany
Oh I love the painting, and the rainbow how beautiful, you should definitely print and frame that, and the decoupage is great!
I love Tori too!!!!And this post wow that rainbow it blew me away and the last pic sigh…… I just love that!xoxo Desirée
Hi Ness, Oh the weather looks great in tuson. Send me a bow cause I’ve always got the rain here in the uk…rain..bow! Congrats on the shop opening! Hope you got my print order in support of your new venture. Love Michelle

I just discovered that you opened up a shop on Etsy. Congrats! I’m a little slow to notice things sometimes! Everything looks really nice!
Lately, I’ve been trying to come up with new and (possibly) innovative ways to market my Etsy shop. Have any suggestions?
Such bizarre weather seems to be making the rounds. Your photos are gorgeous! And I think sometimes stylists can hold of people and get a little carried away.
Rainbows by your door, I am not surprised at all!
see you, g
Just as I was getting home from a shopping spree at Yikes, it started pouring down on me!! I didn’t know how to get into the house. Maybe we should look into getting a gutter?? Is that what they’re called? I like your painting on the french paper. It’s cool that you did that. I just started sketching on old copies of the Wall Street Journal. I am not sure if one of my professor’s signed me up for a free trial subscription, but it just started showing up one day and I didn’t know what to do with the read copies, so sketch paper it became!!
Hey girl -so glad you’re on Etsy now! Your shop is so nice! Hope you still love “Best of What’s Around”!
Signed,
Jennifer Kerr, AKA Never Was A Cornflake Girl
