From my window where I work and type, I spy a bit of life fluttering about outside. There is so much bird activity around, chatter and song, such a delight…
When my office out here in the country is complete, I will have to make a special bird sanctuary outside of that window. Which looks upon this open space below, where black birds visit often…
I bet you are wondering why I am here today, when I should be getting my gown ready for the carnival soiree? Alas, I have been working on a huge website project for a dear friend. And just put in a day and a half of computer time to get it closer to almost totally done. So I am giddy and happy, and feeling freer, and wanting to shout out Happy Friday from mountain tops!! 😉 😉
I don't know about you, but I don't like to have loose ends here and there. I wanted to tackle this project sooner rather than later. So about 17 hours of work later, I am pretty much done, and I want to do cartwheels and handstands I tell ya!! In the thick of it, I got a little crazed, and the only thing that kept me sane, was chatting with the birds…
So, I thought it prudent, to pop in and tell you about a "regular" at the bird feeder hitching post… Since some of these lil' guys are my special friends, and keep me company day to day…
You see, there is this little guy called Joey. He comes right up to my window when he needs more seed. He hangs out at the bird feeder I made. He thinks I made it just for him 😉
Joey tells me things about the other birds. The quail drive him insane. He thinks they are rather selfish and full of themselves ;) He tried to talk to a quail baby, you know make friends, but mama quail ushered the babes to hide, and then skipped along, snooty as can be, hurried as a bee…
Joey thought her quite silly. He says the quail act rather suspicious and nervous… (I love them all the same)
Joey likes to stuff his face, in the most unsightly manner (don't tell him I said that), but I don't mind because he is so cute…
But, like I said, Joey thinks I made this Froggie feeder (which I don't think he realizes is a frog, tee heee) just for him. So he gets rather cross when other birds want in…
What, what's that you say? There is another bird on his way??? asks Joey.
So, Joey forgoes sharing a little, to spend his time guarding "his frog."
Joey the Watchman ;)
But then, he spies a lovely plump birdling gal. And just like that – he abandons his seed… And all you are left with is the memory of his being there, and a glimpse of his tail as he flutters away…
Because, what I have learned you see, is that even birds, like you and me, just want to be loved, and will abandon any treat, no matter how delicious, to cuddle cheek to cheek…
Canoodle canoodle, snuggle snuggle, bird love 😉
Happy Friday!! (Hope I get to see you tomorrow)
🖤,V

Ah, so cute. What a beautiful bird. Occasionally, I have a little bird who pecks on my window in the morning hours…daylight to be exact. He pecks, and pecks until I get up to see him. Sometimes he looks at me and then flys away. Other times, he immediately takes off as soon as I make the effort to get out of my bed… I often wonder what news he is trying to bring to me. I haven’t seen him in awhile…Kris
Pretty birds. We don’t have quail here.We do have the black birds, which I don’t mind feeding. At the pool where I work we have hawks which are so awesome to watch. I always try to catch with my camera what prey they catch.
I hope ya having a wonderful Friday.
Hugs~
Dearest Vivacious Vanessa V 🙂
Sometimes i feel like i am missing out on all the posting fun and think, i have GOT to get my own blog!!!
But then you post and I go, oh nevermind, Vanessa’s doing it for me, reading my mind, butterflies and birdies and cupcakes and full moons (and lovelovelove)—articulating and pictorializing waaaay better than i ever could 🙂
Hey! Friday the 13th cant be all that unlucky if we get a post from the fabulous V! (Besides, luckily, Saturday the 14th always shows up right after…) Spring has sprung and it is gor.geo.us in our yard-should i send you pics? Also, we have 3 hummingbirds, one whom we call “Bogey” because he will do fly-bys near your noggin! And, a cardinal we think secretly believes he is King of Everything. He cocks his head this way and that, studying us, apparently judging whether our appearance is suitable for being in his presence (I know it because i heard some Robins talking about it)
i cant wait to see all the carnivale fabulousness!!
(and i am working on a home for an elfin creature)

Oh…..my….Joey is such a cutie-pie!! And wherever did you find that frog?? I too have been hearing the chirping of the birdies this morning as I work away in my office. I’m eagerly awaiting springtime 🙂
Have a lovely weekend!

Oh that is so sweet! I love your little friend Joey, especially when he is guarding the frog! I love watching the birds out of the kitchen window when I am washing up.
OH me oh MY! Quail!!!! So sweet, you know… I have about 3 half-finished quail sketchlings in my drawing book (which is actually such a mess calling is a book is not quite suitable). tee hee They are so cute!! 🙂
Happy finishing of a project day! I love that feeling!!
Happy friday!!
Such darling little birds you have O Fanciful One.
I once had a scrub jay by the name of George who loved to linger at the cupboard door. His peanuts were hid deep inside, but that never stopped him or hurt his pride when the door he could not open. I also had a black bird that napped in my hair.
June Bug was her name
and by my side she did remain.
For two full years she was my friend then one bright day she flew away and I never did see her again. Who would have thought that such a sweet little bird could leave such a crack in ones heart? Certainly not I, but there it was for all the world to see.
Beware the birds for they will steal your heart, but they will also give it wings to dream.
I can’t wait to see what you’ve planned for the Carnival Thing!
Lil’ Joey is a doll Miss V! And that frog you made is just lovely…quite a hoot, hehe! I can’t wait to see you at the Carnival Soiree…my pictures didn’t turn out from the things we did this week for some reason, so I’m going to have to wing it, ahhhh.
Jamie 🙂
Ah, you know it Springtime when the birds get twitterpated (remember from Bambi?) Your pal, Joey is quite the looker – is he a finch?
Glad you are happy – I don’t like unfinished projects hanging around either. They just sit there, making me feel guilty when I want to start something new. Much better to clear ’em out and be done with them.
Happy Friday,
xoxo,
Kate
Oh, such sweet and lovely pictures once again! When I was a teenager I had two little Zebra Finches named Pyramus and Thisbe. One night, one summer, I dreamed that Thisbe died and Pyramus no longer sang. I awoke the next morning to find my dream was truth…Thisbe lay dead on the bottom of the cage, and Pyramus never, ever sang again. **blows kisses** Deborah
What great spring pictures. I think Joey is enamored with you. I have to agree i think Quail are a bit snooty too.
cheers

Happy Friday right back to you sweetheart.
xoxoxo
Another great post and I love the bird feeder and Joey too.
Joey is a cutie! And the quails are so adorable! I miss the bird tweets of Arizona – each state has their own unique tweets!
Oh…how cute all the birdies are!! I am LOVING them in the birdfeeder as well…
I just had to tell you that I just discovered your blog and LOVE it! 🙂 I live in Bangkok (I’m American) and my hubby has been gone for the last week. I’ve been really scared and paranoid at home alone (with the kids) and your blog archives got me through several very sleepless nights. Thanks for the entertainment- your pictures are beautiful and I loved escaping into your lovely little world!
Funny, you are inviting the birds in and I am trying to keep them away. They nibble at my spinach, pull my bean sprouts, and just yesterday they ate every last bit of wheatgrass seed in my garden. I put a bird feeder out front hoping it would keep them out of the back where the garden is. No such luck.
OH that little joey is so sweet!
I tried to post yesterday but my computer wouldn’t let me.
Joey is beautiful. Birds are the best, aren’t they. They are each beautiful in their own way and have personality. Glad you got your work done and can have fun at the carnival soiree.
How have i not been here before!!!
love it.
off to peruse.
xo
Miss V-
That is simply a delight. Your garden is a feast for eyes too numb from a frozen wasteland. We went on a wee vacation for a few days and I have missed you darling! Glad to be back and to find that spring has sprung by you!
Enjoy the day!

your frog bird feeder is delightful…of course:)

I am sure I spied Joey visiting me the other day. Hmmmm or it could be a relative? He is just as precocious! I am so behind on reading your magical tales. This recovery of mine is definitely taking it’s toll. Thank you dear one for sharing yourself with me.
Hugs
