My limbs feel like feeble branches that were run over and scotch taped back together. My fingers are raisin nubs and my hair has grown so long, the ends blow in the wind, quite like those of a cackling witch. I wake up in the morning and my glowing face has turned into a tired sad case of, showtime. Mr. Lovee and I have been going non-stop getting the gallery ready… I am so sore and tired… But I am not complaining. I am taking the pain as punishment. Punishment for something so greedy, you may never look at me the same. You know how I posted those white and red mushrooms a couple posts ago??? And I was swooning over them, and you all were so happy for me and my shrooms? Well, I failed to admit that, umm, I have others. Yes, the mushroom hoarder of the century. In my room I have these guys…
So, I take my sore and sad punishment, and accept it wholeheartedly, as long as I get to keep the shrooms of course… I was going to avoid blogging as to not bore you with whining about the show and preparations and so on and so forth… But it feels so darn good to whine, how can I not… The one thing I am looking forward to this week is, Halloween in Bloglandia.
I am sadly going to miss one of my favorite days in real life. And, I have to say, I am so terribly sad about it. I feel like Halloween has already passed me by… (I told you this would be pitiful, caccccckle caccckle)
You see, I have not done my yearly carving of the wonderful Halloween pumpkins. No major decorating… All I did was plug a little Halloween pumpkin doo-dad in… Although, he ain’t half bad…
My skull has been hanging around all year, so he was ready to go!
And of course, the witches hand is out and partying with candle skulls… Alas, they all waited for the witches party this year, that never was… But hey, I can have a witches party any old day right??
I made you some turtle brownies, just to help you get through this with me… I knew I could get to you through your belly!!! I just have to bake them!! HA!
And then I made you some orange food, carrots and yams, in my cauldron of course…
The only thing is, I think the neighbors are wondering why this cross in a pot is right in front of our front gate (I think some of them were spying on me building it). The fact is, I never did finish that scarecrow, who was going to hang on this wooden structure… Perhaps I should build him on Halloween??? What do you think??
Well, I am off to do more shroom penance… You see, the main reason I am so sore is, I decided in my insaneness, that I wanted to repaint the entire gallery in the same color it was already in, Vanilla Cream. That meant, everything off the walls and then me with a can going up and down a ladder (and then you wonder where the heck I have been??). Now, I have to rehang everything.. I purchased 49 frames today (I am making poster size canvas prints!!). Due to the frames, I have no more coins in my piggy bank. I just handed the guy my entire piggy bank. It cost the actual ceramic pig too…Sheesh…
I am feeling the freshness of white these days so I ironed this white tablecloth today… I think I am going to use it. I am not in a black tablecloth mood when it comes to the gallery/shop right now…
OH MY!!! Before I leave I almost forgot to tell you… Sweetie-Pie himself is one of a few featured Etsian prints (animal prints) in Domino Magazine online. Chosen by the lovely Holly Becker of Decor8, I was surprised and overjoyed when she told me!!! The best news to a girl like me!!! Click here to visit him at DominoMag.Com. He makes his Momma proud… There are so many wonderful artists included here (lucky me!). Swooon!
Okay I really am off to do shroom penance now… Oh and, thank Corey and Lou if my blog is loading faster for you!
I promise I will visit you when all this is over!! Pinky Promise! See you soon!!!! V

Oh, you hang in there girl! you deserve those dang shrooms! Look how hard you are working! Funny, never pictured you as a white person(colorwise-not your acutal person!). But the white looks just gorgeous behind the artwork, great call! Your timing may be a little insane however! The cross made me laugh, bet your neighbors think somebody got run over there, maybe you should hang a plastic wreath of flowers on it to make it really look like a shrine(sorry that wasn’t really very nice was it?). And you can have a scarecrow all autumn I think, and a witch party too! Keep eating those yummy brownies, don’t kill yourself with that show!
OH, and way to go sweetie-pie! How exciting!
You’re doing all that work and you had time to bake brownies?! I’m in awe.
Good luck with the show.
And THANKS for fixing your page loading time.
ox,
Kim
yoopidioo, it took all of 5 seconds now, a real treat!
no more waiting to visit your babbling rambling loveliness, yay!
hey, shroom penance is serious business over here….

Ah, so glad you popped by in your busy schedule. I was wondering what happened to Mr. Scarecrow…you have the best Halloween decorations already, even if you’d only put up a few (the witch’s hand is fantastic). How can anyone resist the mushrooms? You’ve done a wonderful job setting up the gallery and repainting it, it’s fab! Best wishes!
Vanessa I think you are amazing that you can keep up all of this! You definitely deserved those cute mushrooms! And I think it’s so bad that you have the feeling that you missed Halloween, I know the feeling that you are so busy with other things, you have the feeling you miss a special holiday. It’s just like having your birthday and that you are busy with your guests all the time and that you miss your own birthday because you are just to busy. But I have to say, in my opinion you did the most about Halloween of all the weblogs I read. Love your house with all the wonderful decorations! I have the greatest respect for you that you can do all this, you must be very proud of yourself! When is your show? I’m so looking forward seeing it after you are done with it. Hope you can find some calmness then! Those Brownies look amazing! Should I come visit you and help you out with the show and the painting? Well Vanessa I wish you all the good luck in the world and I hope that you still have a great time, you deserve that! xxxxx Les
Weeeeee! My head is spinning! You go girl with all the wickely cool preparations! You got more energy than I! Maybe I should taste test those brownies I think I could use a sugar rush! hee hee! xo
Best of luck with your show! So much hard work and cooking too?
Hi! It looks like you have been busy! I think the light color on the walls will be just perfect for showing off all of your lovelies! When is the show? I will miss Halloween, too…as I’ll be on the road headed to Canton. Maybe I’ll wear something ghoulish while I unpack! 🙂 Congrats on being included in the Domino article. C’est magnifique!
Awwww! All looks lovely!! Don’t over work yourself, dear!! Take a rest under the shade of your mushroom forest! : )
And congrats again for your feature!! I love it!:)
I was gonna tell them if you didn’t…about Domino ‘ya know…Congratulations again!!!! I know a star, I know a star!!!!
There is a painting above your mantle we haven’t seen Curiosa…are you holding out on us????
Domino? Congrats!!! Sweetie Pie looks “pleased” to be there!!! I’m lovin’ those brownies…and where did you find time to bake brownies, paint, create and dream in shroom land?!? How many hours are there in your day girl?!?!
You are just amazing! You accomplish so much and still have more Halloween decorations than I have! And by the way, please pass me one of those brownies….they look delish.
Congrats on Domino!!!
You already know how pleased I am for you about Domino. As for the mushrooms, they’re wonderful and who could resist them? Your space is looking lovely, but no wonder you’re sore after all that up and down the ladder w/ a can of paint! Whew! Good job Mr. Lovee is there to help w/ everything. I expect skipping one Halloween witches’ party won’t cause too much thunder in the distance. Your show will be fantastic! xoxox
Time to relax eat a brownie (or two or all of them) your lovely carrots drink a cup of tea and revel in the misty moonlight.
YAY Domino this is AWESOME my friend!

YAY !!!about sweetie -pie!!! Congratulations that is so coowel! As a fellow lover of beautiful interiors, painting is just what we do! I swear that I will hire it next time and then I go and start 2 rooms at once! I hope your gallery opening goes well I know it will. See you at the Halloweenie party!
Congrats to Sweetie-Pie! That’s awesome!!
Ooh, and I’ve got to tell you, I’ve had “make up postcards” on my To Do List for ages and ages now and always get a burst of inspiration to DO IT ALREADY when I see others’ postcards (that burst of inspiration has yet to lead to follow through, though, unfortunately)…but I’ve got tell you, out of all I’ve seen, those you designed in the previous post are hands down the most gorgeous postcards I’ve ever seen. GORGEOUS!
Oh my Vanessa!! You did pick a good time to decide to paint the walls! Anyway you show will be a HUGE success of course AND congrats on the nod in Domino….much deserved!
I’ll take a brownie hot out of the oven please….
it is loading faster! neato. congrats on domino! yay! i’m doing a little dance for you. la, la, la, la, la…
So, the witching hour is drawing near….i’m lovin’ all the Halloweenery in your post, the skulls decorating the old typewriter, vines surrounding jackie, the witch under the umbrella, the cross in the photo is especially creepy. Oh, the disembodied arm is far out with the Christmas balls – Ha! Leave it to you to make it fun and different, and i’m drooling over the orange veggies and turtle brownies, i’ve got my own treats around the house, candy corn and little chocolate bars and pumpkin seeds which i gorge on, and come Halloween night, i will be munching happily on a carmel apple, the piece de resistance!!
Can’t wait!
Oh the fairy under the shroom looks so adorable. Now I understand the shroom thing. Your orange things in a pot look yummy too. I wish I lived close enough to visit the gallery and see it all in person.
Love your blog, your art and all your rambles!
Domino? That’s a big deal! Congratulations!!! Don’t worry, as much as I love Halloween, I usually don’t do anything special for it either and I always regret it afterward.
Your gallery is looking very nice. 🙂
Came across your blog- love the artwork!
Carrots and yams sound like a great idea for a halloween snack- with lots of brown sugar!
Nothing wrong with a stash of shrooms. Fairies, toads and elves need someplace to hang out. Good luck with your show and congratulations to you and Sweetie-Pie!
All of this, ALL of it is going to be well worth the pain! I am in the throws of taking everything out of my studio, walls are being repainted (I hired a great guy to do that part, he does good work, he’s tall so no ladder is needed and he works cheap. All I have to do is sleep with him….heehee – aren’t our guys handy to have around?) You know what’s funny? I chose a cream color! AND you know what else, I’m making a “rug” for under my work space with black and white lino peel and stick tiles on a thin surface) and what do I see in your photo? A black and white floor – kindred souls??
Don’t fret about Halloween darling girl. AND you’re right, you can have a witches party ANY time you want! Just keep your eyes on the prize and it will all pay off in a BIG way! (of that I am sure)
Congrats on the Domino mag feature…but then you deserve to be recognized!
Now I’d love to try the carrots and yams, yum! Shall we have some tea first?
XOXOXOXOXO
Love,
Lisa

I’m drooling a bit over the mushrooms (ok…a lot…) I think it’s perfectly fine to hoard your lovelies…just ask the drawers full of 1940’s bark cloth I have…
I also adore the owl picture you did…it is my favorite…well…one of them!
Goodness me, you have been busy! You are making me feel guilty for not painting the walls in my house (I’ve had the paint for about 6 months now – eeek!). Maybe now I’m free from study….maybe…
Oh, sorry to hear that you are a bit down about halloween – just think forward to christmas! Oh Christmas, I’m so looking forward to it – the heat, the flies, the lazy afternoon of eating and swimming – bring it on!
Oh and congrats on your feature!
I saw it! I saw it!! Congratulations! Your post is oh so cute but I don’t have time to ramble on like I usually do. There’s a re-run of HOUSE coming on that I haven’t seen. Gotta go. =) Blessings… Polly
