Shall I begin with tales of art, or tales of life today? Hmmmm, let's, see….
How about we choose art?
This tale begins almost a year ago, when…
I began a dance with a…
Certain Monsieur Peacock…
By the by, he glimmers like a hologram, on command 😉
I met Monsieur Peacock, at the request of a lovely lass, who asked me to perhaps incorporate a fancy peacock into one of my paper dress paintings.
Peacock jumped onto canvas quickly, in early spring…
Then we patiently waited for ballerina, to share her bliss in dance, at just the right time….
So that I could try to capture her feeling, just so…
Summer came and went, Monsieur Peacock got a few eyes, I worked in the garden, I started a handful of new paintings…
All the while, spending elaborate tea times with my feathered friend.
In autumn the clouds came…
And with that, the dance ensued…
It was an emotionally moving dance, that peacock dance…
And then, it was time for peacock and ballerina to voyage far far away…
To their loving new home, and so, I said good-bye…
But, not without a tasty canvas print to pop into the shop.
The Peacock Dance canvas print can now be found in my online shop.
Hopefully more pieces I have been working on will emerge sooner, rather than later.
Life has a way of twisting and turning, and throwing all sorts of unexpected happenings at me. Oh, at you too you say? Oh thank goodness I am not alone in that 😉
So, as for life…
I am feeling much better, thank you so so so much for egging me on to feel better, it helped very much. I marched on, even if still a tad swirly in the head.
The days are so pretty. Even a hint of frost in mornings can't hurt the growing things, because day time warms up so nicely. Arizona can be weird. A tinge of frost in the morning, warm by noon. Weirdness, I tell ya.
It has also been raining, so a moist ground is such a treat around here.
Pumpkin babes are still growing outside the cottage and in the back garden.
I can't believe it myself…
There has been soup on the stove. And cooking pumpkins + gobbling spicy pumpkin muffins before a photo could be taken. I had 3 over the course of a couple of days. I let Mister have all the apple pie.
As you know, I looove baking sweets and feeding them to Mister. But, I prefer eating savory myself.
The soup turned out delicious in the end. Following Mombie's tips to saute all my veggies, and do all my spicing up, right before the soup was done (the beans took about 4-5 hours to cook, I love the barley in there). It worked perfectly.
In the garden there are lots of roses. Is it strange that there are so many blooms, pumpkins and tomatoes out there, or did I never notice the spring in autumn before? I think perhaps our winter is mostly in January and February.
Pretty coral petals…
I planted my ranunculus and freesia bulbs.
Then, I went out and sprinkled all my poppy and wild flower seeds.
The good luck was that, the day after I sprinkled all my seeds, we had a huge rain storm, so hopefully, the seeds got pushed into the earth and will gift lots of blooms in spring.
Walks in the garden are so nice right now. The summer heat doesn't let one appreciate anything. So, cool weather is a ginormous gift…
Do I sound like a broken record?
I just had déjàvu of telling you that already.
I am turning into one of those old ladies that repeats the same story over and over and over, haha!
Oh goodness!
One more garden thing, I am loving watching the biennials get huge, especially the ones that will bloom for the first time in summer 2012. Such as the hollyhocks below…
Gardening to me, makes time go by even faster than it already does.
There is always something going on for the future, and time slips away at crazy rapid rates.
Isn't this color combo so….
Delicious?
My wonderful neighbor says that the colors are so delicious, you almost want to bite into the candy colors. So right!
Anyhow, I am about to veer, and spiral into babble. So, before I start talking about exploding commercial printers in my office (and HP discontinuing service and the product altogether), plus woes of getting a new huger one (which is awesome in the end), unexpected upgrades and purchases and this and that, I am going to take a deep breath, and leave 😉
Go with the flow, that is my mantra for the day.
Yesterday I had a stressful thing happen, and I decided to go with the flow, and then it turned out to be that the outcome, was even better than I could have hoped for.
So, letting go sometimes really is key.
Have a beautiful day!!!
Off to paint…
Love, V

Vanessa:
You newest piece is exquisite! I love the peacock and all the feathery goodness. It is lovely!
I was strolling along through my roses yesterday and was amazed at how beautiful they are right now. Here in the desert, autumn truly is like a little bit of spring. The leaves on my front trees are on fire and there is autumn goodness all around.
I’m glad to know that your vertigo is under control. This up and down weather lately surely shakes up the vertigo.
xoxo

Gerushia’s New World
You have completely outdone yourself! That piece is AMAZING! The detail is so incredibly divine. Hope all is alright on your end, my world’s been topsy turvy. Prince Charming is playing hard to get…
Lots of love,
Jenn
Hi, sweet V.! I had a difficult, teary day saying good-bye to some people, so coming here to find a new post has been very comforting to me! I am going to pretend I am curled up in a comfy chair at your house and you are serving me yummy steaming soup!
We have been getting some goodies out of the wee little late summer garden my hubby planted! Yesterday I picked our second zucchini! We’ve gotten some jalapenos (which I will not eat)! Hubby says they are really hot, and he is hoping they will get milder. I think he has heard something about them turning red and getting milder. Heard of that? We also have actual broccoli growing from our broccoli plant, and a few green tomatoes still on the vine. You are so right. It is such fun growing things.
I love your painting. Your dancers looks so graceful, and that peacock adds a gorgeous flair! Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful painting with us!
Your Peacock and Ballerina are just Sooo OoLaLah Miss Vanessa, just like your magical Garden! The colors, how they call to us and give us such a smile. Your life is such a Fanciful twist Missy.
What a treat! I am glad you are feeling better. 😉
A wee bit of autumn traveled today,
Into the arms of summer to say-
‘I truly delight in the colors of spring,
And all the moments that fall breezes bring.”
Old winter was listening and polishing his crown,
When he looked and saw the flowers abound.
Just in that moment a girl did sing and started to twirl, it was a magical thing.
The flowers were bursting candy sweets and stars,
While the hatter sat and played guitar.
It was a moment and second not to be missed,
When the flowers of the desert sang accompaniment.
In the misty morning her footsteps ring,
Across the dew and into the heaven to sing-
Songs to the gnomes and fairies too,
The little elves with pointed shoe.
A moment a second not to be missed,
Vanessa’s fabulous, blooming garden bliss.
Your painting is so pretty. I think I will order the print sometime after Christmas.
Yesterday I was outside admiring the colorful leaves and the last of the roses.
Funny thing happened I picked a bunch of sweet pea seed Pods and put them on the fender of the SUV-it is a flat type of fender. Forget all about them til today when I picked up my granddaughter and they were still there over 20 miles of driving on the interstate and city and country streets. Those seeds must want to grow.
Now hold on there you young wippersnapper, I’m one of those little old ladies who tells the same stories over and over again! I must say your ballerina has the most beautiful face I think I’ve ever seen. The composition was perfect, but her face is just exquisitely beautiful. Oh, to be the lucky owner. TPL
Dear V,
Oh I love your painting so much! So whimsical and fun! 🙂 And your flowers are amazing, as usual. Your friend is right–those beautiful colors just make you want to take a nice big bite out of those delicious looking flowers! (Although I really don’t recommend actually doing that…it could result it food poisoning. Or something like that. Perhaps in my fairy-tale world where fairies roam and Merlin helps a certain society princess from 1865 London defeat the witches intending to take over both universes, but not here, sadly).
🙂
Anyway, I loved your post, and thank you for inspiring me so!
Ta ta for now,
Jessica
A Woodland Fantasy
Another lovely post! We are experiencing the same weather here in Texas. We are getting just enough rain. The flowers are coming up, the roses are blooming, and everything that looked like it was about to die in this Summer’s heat is now growing wonderfully. A friend of mine said “This is why we live here.” And you know, she’s right. All the drought, heat and general nastiness is worth putting up with for this extended Spring we get.
Love the new painting. I agree with you…sometimes letting go is key! Glad it all worked out Vanessa.
Hugs,
Jamie 🙂
Ah! I see you have been sequestered in your studio at times over the past months, working away!!!…Monsieur Peacock is more than stunning! It is a masterpiece, absolutely astoundingly fabulously breathtakingly elegant and beautiful!!! Oooo! The very, very lucky person who owns it, must be jumping up and down by the gloriousness of your divine collage. Sigh…You are one very gifted collage paper doll artist. Magnifique!
(if that is a word)
And the soup looks soooo delicious…and barely is so good for the body and everything else you put in it. Yumm! Yumm!
Thank you for sharing your fabulous artwork~
Miss Teresa
BARLEY….that is! 😉
Hi Vanessa, It has been a while and a true pleasure to return and enjoy your musings at your blog. Your photos are fantastical and your words are just as delicious. Thank you for your breath of fresh air, your constant positive energy and for just being you. “Let it be” is the key! xoxo Suzy

The painting and photos are so fascinating.Lovely work of art.I enjoyed reading your blog.Thank you for sharing your art to us through your blog.
Hello Mr. Peacock… if you ever came to visit me, I would take you to the zoo… they have peacocks wandering around sans cage or anything and they’ll come right up to you and walk with you…
Your garden makes me jealous because I don’t have one here, and it is now too cold for anything to survive.
Glad you’re feeling better and enjoying that bipolar AZ weather!
Oh my!!!! This painting is absolutely astounding, Vanessa. It’s so lyrical and there is so much movement. Peacocks are just amazing, aren’t they? How wonderful it would be to dance in the sky so freely surrounded by woodland creatures and birds. 🙂 xoxo
