Appley and…

The grandest gifts hung from my gates in the bright early sun yesterday…

Appley 1

A wonderful distraction from a super exciting project I have been working on.

(meant to share yesterday, but life got wacky)

Two bags full, waiting for me to spot them.

I opened them up, and then, that scent.

That real apple scent.

That sort of scent that reminds you of being 6 years old and picking the most delicious apples from your grannies tree.

The kind of apples you haven't had since.

One of my dearest neighbors from down the lane, who is also a friend, came upon such a tree you see.

A tree covered in little green apples.

Ripe apples filling a tree in June.

How curious.

How marvelous.

The owner said, please, take as many as you can.

She took some for herself.

Then told me, and of course, I said I would love to have some.

And so, the next day, voila.

Thank you Bru!!

Boy, are they delicious.

Crunchy.

Sweet.

A tiny bit tart.

They stole me away from my project.

A project I can't wait to share, editing photos now.

Appley 2

Oh, it's fun.

It's for the mad tea party.

It's for you to do too, if you want.

If you'd like.

But you must 😉

My assistants yawn and nap whilst I work feverishly away.

Appley 4

My sis is here.

The a/c broke at her house.

So, she came here for some reprieve, while waiting for the air fixer upper.

She is grading papers in the other room, and watching Chocolat.

I can hear Johnny Depp now.

Lovely distractions have found me.

Apples, a sister, plus her tiny furry baby – Douglas.

Douglas

Pure dog's world madness here today.

Miles LOVES other Male dogs.

He follows them around like a puppy.

No matter the size.

Mile and Doug

I am not sure what my sis is doing in the above photo.

She says it's a tribute to the movie Legend, where the girl puts her hand out to touch the Unicorn.

🙂

As for the skies.

It's a bit cloudy.

A chance for rain, but no cigar.

Darn.

Pleeeease mother nature, send me some rain.

I beg.

Will you ask her for me?

Oh and, let's not forget the distractions of sleeping babes.

On his back, that Miles sleeps.

Legs outstretched in the air, for hours and hours and hours…

I think we might have to start a circus.

If I could only train the endless ants in the yard.

Yes.

Ant hypnosis maybe?

We'll see.

Will he levitate, that Furtunato?

Appley 3

Guess who is the best behaved pup so far today?

Yep, Matty.

He hasn't tried to tackle anyone, and he is under my feet sleeping.

Hooray!

Okay, off to finish the last part of this secret project, then edit photos, and then, bring some ideas back here to share.

Deal?

Love, V

Okay, before I go…

Guess what?

Today is random song sharing day.

I didn't know that, did you?

😉

Whatever song, whatever the first song is, that pops into your head right now – you must, must share it with us.

Leave a You Tube link, or lyrics or what the song reminds you of even.

Don't fib now, what song is it?

This is what first came to my mind.

Random.

I know.

Reminds me of teenage summer.

But, I also have a little Siouxsie and the Banshees runnin' round the brain…

Remember that? Fun!

Okay so…

See you beyond sooooon, with making ideas!

Sparkly heart

  1. Mmmmm, those apples do look deeee-lish!! Can’t wait to see what your secret project is…they are always the best!
    Jamie 🙂

  2. Kim says:

What???? Apples in June? That is so, so magical. It reminds me of the book “Garden Spells” by Sarah Addison Allen. Oh, what a lovely, magical book.
Oh yeah, this is supposed to be about music. Well, the first song that popped into my head was “So Far Away” by Avenged Sevenfold. Actually, summer makes me think of my parents, and whenever I think about my parents, this song plays in my head…on a loop. These particular lyrics make me think of my mom and dad ~
How do I live without the ones I love?
Time still turns the pages of the book it’s burned
Place and time always on my mind
I have so much to say but you’re so far away.
    Sleep tight I’m not afraid
The ones that we love are here with me
Lay away a place for me
‘Cause as soon as I’m done I’ll be on my way
    To live eternally.
*sigh*…I sure do miss my mom and dad. Especially on these warm summer days. It makes me think of my dad mowing the lawn and my mom canning homemade plum jelly.
    xoxo

  3. Mellie says:

Hmmm, an old song that my grandfather used to sing to me as a little girl: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sy1WptHKO3c
Moonlight on the River Colorado. Reminds me of lazy summer nights. 🙂

  4. Tiff says:

Bobby Brown – “My Prerogative”. Whyyyyy??? Who knows, but it’s been in my head all day, and I have been jammin’! 😉

  5. Jenn says:

Oh I do love a good intrigue 😉 With this super secret special project of yours. Which is for me to do too? I might just take you up on that. Yummy for fresh apples, and fresh things in general. The cucumbers have just begun to grow big enough around this neck of the woods.
As for a song? Well I’ve been listening to a ton of country music lately. I’ve finally gotten a decent computer and can download and switch around songs on my iPod again. And I’m finding Carrie Underwood to be just the thing. She was the first thing that came to my head.
    This song in particular:

  6. lisa says:

There is nothing like a perfect apple. It is my stranded on a desert island and could only have one food choice. Right now (in the heat) I am simmering apple cider for my afternoon break time. Don’t even get me going on pies…
Song on my mind? One less bell to answer by the Fifth Dimension (I have no idea why because I am quite pleased with Mr. Enchanted).
    XO,
    Lisa

  7. Theresa says:

Apples! How awesome – will there be pies in the near future? 🙂
Songs…can you believe my mind is just drawing a blank? I’m serious – nothing is coming to mind. I’ve been a bit distracted today – that is probably the reason why. But I love your choices – thank you! xoxo

  8. Miss Linda says:

I can’t wait to hear your secret surprise… You have the greatest surprises.
The song that comes to mind is:
“In My Life” By The Beatles

  9. Lisa K says:

I love the movie Chocolat! It was one of the few things that lightened my heart when I had postpartum depression.
The first song that came to my mind is “Whenever, Wherever” by Shakira 🙂
I can’t wait to see your project!

  10. Kelly says:

Loved psychedelic Furs Vanessa! I can smell the green apples YUMMMM! Oh Chocolat, great flick and that Johnny Depp, just scrumptious!
We received a big dust storm yesterday instead, when we thought we were getting some rain. The beautiful clouds and sky just fooled with us here. Boo Hoo! I got home just in time before it hit and made sure pooches were safe inside. Yikes!
OK, here is a song I loved back in the day, when I felt so carefree, going out to all of you in bloggers land, on random song day!!! OH OH IT’S MAGIC…

  11. Erin says:

I saw the Psychedelic Furs in a little bar in Mountain View, CA with my future husband in 1989. Small venue. They actually hung from the piping out over the audience. Pretty dang cool.

Just sharing the above with my 12 year old son.
Here is another I have been thinking about this evening.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6JeG2u3pSY
    Enjoy!

  12. Erin says:

OOOOOOOOOooooooo! Also Nature Boy by Nat King Cole.
“The greatest thing you’ll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return.”
My favorite version is sung by John Leguizamo from Moulin Rouge. David Bowie’s version is interesting as well.

  13. “I am calling youuuuoooo…” with Brendan Frazer in that Canadian Mountain Rocky movie he was in with Sarah Jessica Parker…’Dudley Do-Right’ 1999 vintage. That is the first song that popped into my head! Funny! I don’t know if it is on You-Tube…it might be???
Ah…I am in excited anticipation of the ‘secret’ project you are working on…can’t wait!
The dogs look like they are living the ‘Crazy, Lazy, Hazy, Days of Summer’ another one that just popped into my mind.

  14. Renee says:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BqMY9mMMJKU Rob Thomas, Now Comes the Night. I love, love, love this man’s music and this song just speaks to me.
Apples, ymmmmm. I have a recipe for apple jam I still haven’t made.

  15. Elizabeth says:

    The Skye Boat Song:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ensGKMOD4cM&feature=related
We sang it in 2nd grade, and it’s always been a strange touch stone for me.
BTW I lurk and lurk, but I’ve been following your blog for maybe 2 years now and all the beauty you create is so very inspiring! You’re a bright spot in my day, always, especially since things have been a bit hard lately.

  16. OK, this is strange, well, stranger than I usually am, even, but as soon as I read the song question, the song that went off in my head was…the Muppet Show theme song. Heh. Thanks for asking! Tee hee.

  17. Jessica says:

Lovely, V! I hope you are enjoying your apple filled days, and I can’t wait to see what deliciously wonderful plans you have up your sleeve for the mad tea party! xx

  18. I have Van Halen in my head… since your hair looked like Sammy Hagar’s today 🙂 🙂 🙂 Tee hee!!
Thanks for letting me hang out with you and the pups today. AC is back in business!

  19. tina says:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_9OUSrBuTc
I looove hearing Sting sing, ” I Burn For You”….very sensual love song!

  20. Retta says:

Looking forward to your little surprise! Did you ever see the movie, “Somewhere in Time” with Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour? The theme of that movie is now going through my head…thanks ;)The music itself is a classical piece by Rachmaninoff, “Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini”; arranged by John Barry for the movie. I think it’s lovely….very soothing.

  21. Meg says:

    Oh boy….
    Okay, you asked for it.
Yesterday, through a series of oddball synchronicities my sister and I were gifted with a pair of concert tickets. Soooo….last night we went to see Neil Diamond.
I wasn’t really sure what to expect, but I’ve never seen an entire stadium audience react with such heartfelt enthusiasm, and I can honestly say the show was amazing!
    Here’s to broadening horizons….

  22. Dee Ellwood says:

Wow your apples look delish! I am so jealous! Well since it is random song day I will part with Mr. Jones by the Counting Crows.
    http://youtu.be/-oqAU5VxFWs

  23. Retta, Oh my, I LOVE that song. I can’t hear it without crying.
My whole family and I LOVED watching that movie together when I was growing
up….. And every summer when we’d have our summer vacations at Hotel
Del Coronado in San Diego, that movie would be on the hotel channel. The song
reminds me of my childhood…. so beautiful!!

  24. Meg,
OH!! I thought Neil Diamond was my dad the whole first 8 years of my
life, hahahhaaa!! My dad sort of looked like him, and I held onto the
records when my dad was on business trips, thinking it was him. The news
that Neil Diamond was not my father, was so traumatic ;)))
I also remember going to this country store to buy things for picnics with
my dad, and being in the light teal blue truck with my dad, and Solitary Man on
the radio. I was about 5 or 6.
Now when I here the intro to Solitary Man, I get a lump in my
throat!! How wonderful that you got to go to the
    concert!!

  25. Dear Bobbypin Bandit,
I agree, there was a Sammy Hagar effect, only mine is longer and wilder and
    not as fake blonde :)))
I told Mister Lovee you said that and he said, “OH YOU DO!
    Coooooooool!!!”
Great, I am a male hair band girl :)))
    xoxo

  26. Sister – I thought you said I looked more like this, hahhahaaa!!
Men in the 80s…. hairspray and lipstick, no matter :)))

–>without the chest hair of course 🙂

  27. Laura says:

    #1 Crush by Garbage.
    Now that’s random.
I adore the smell of fresh apples. Ours aren’t ready yet—can’t wait! I want to make apple turnovers-yum. They’re a pain in the butt but they’re so good. Hey—I think next week is National Pie Week, isn’t it?
My grandmother is actually Granny Smith. Isn’t that funnY?
Douglas is adorable. I can’t believe MATTY was the best-behaved boy.

  28. {oc cottage} says:

    oh man! thank you for that little trip down memory lane! i clicked on the link…and then i had to watch all the videos on that page! what memories! i saw the furs with the bangles, social distortion and the untouchables…what a line-up huh? and every once in a while i just need to hear siouxie sing “spellbound”. wow…’82…that was quite a year! ;}
    m ^..^

  29. This made me wish I could spend the day with my sis.
First song: Why Get Up? by The Fabulous Thunderbirds.

  30. marksdorcel says:

The wonderful atmosphere and sky just misled with us here. I got house just soon enough before it hit and created sure canine friends were secure within.
