It is day 7, how can it be?
We must have a tiny celebration, so…
I thought it would only be appropriate to have you over for golden hour tea.
I’m sneaking you into my secret sitting room off of my bedroom.
We have tea sandwiches and the softest white cake cupcakes.
They are sprinkled with edible iridescent glitter and stars.
I love this room because it holds a little passageway door that takes you into the tea room.
I love secret passageways, and rickety attics, as you likely already know.
Well then…
Put on some sparkly jewels and pull up a chair, won’t you?
My little sitting room has two bookcases, a desk, a fireplace, a day bed and a dresser.
It’s very cozy, with windows all around, which is the best place to enjoy daily golden hour.
Of course, little treasures will always be found strewn around my house.
If you know me, you know I love collecting antique porcelain dolls.
Ribbons, old books and an original painting by Janet Hill sit on the dresser.
My fancy little lady below is still with me after all these years.
She is an antique creche cage doll.
I purchased her about 20 years ago in a very old French antique store, and I am so glad that I did.
This room has fabric walls and silk curtains in the same shade.
A sort of buttery light gold.
Anywho, it is a perfect spot for taking afternoon tea.
I’ll be having orange spice today.
Whilst flipping through books and watching birds and roses to the west.
Do you have daily tea?
Irishman has tea all day long, I hear the kettle going 24/7.
But being from Ireland, that is a normal thing.
I can not do caffeine, but I do love herbal teas.
How about yourself?
Do you have a favorite?
I am very late in typing because I was at the country house after tea, sharing cupcakes with ML and looking for something in my room.
Then we ended up chatting our hearts out and going for a walk.
I had to stop to watch the full moon come over the mountain, it was glorious.
I think it is very important to take time for yourself.
Even if you work and play at home like me –
It’s important to take the time to do something nice for yourself.
It’s really an act of mindfulness that can elevate the mood.
And a perfect excuse for regular tea parties.
I noticed the sun going down much earlier today.
Tiny changes are beginning.
Time to prune all my roses and plant all my winter vegetable seeds.
The roses will put on a spring like show in autumn if I prune and give them organic food now.
I had to snap the plume of smoke from blowing out the candle.
It’s just one of those little wonderful things, isn’t it?
Our fanciful mascot will be here every day for afternoon tea.
Waiting to greet you if you pop in.
I, for one, am so glad you are here.
It’s been so much fun doing 7 days of blogging, and the time went by so quickly.
I know that the last of couple years I’ve really slowed down the pace on my blogging.
But as they say, you must change everything in order to stay the same.
And I sure needed to tend to my life, go places, do things, expand my horizons.
Plant new gardens, take care of Miles, juggling a lot in life, etc.
I’ve only blogged a couple times a month for a while, when I used to blog several times a week for many years.
So, I decided I would put my blogging to a test.
I would determine the future of my blogging regularity after the 7 days.
And I can officially say that, I am ready to be back to more regular postings.
What a great way to get back to what you love, by creating a challenge for yourself.
I’ve learned this more in life –
Rather than get super overwhelmed by something, create a doable challenge.
For example, when I have projects that feel too daunting and I can not muster the inspiration to begin, I allot a certain amount of time to work on said project.
Say, 20 minutes to clean the kitchen, or one hour to organize my studio or closet.
It’s incredible what taking on projects in allotted times can do.
I’ve been able to accomplish a whole bunch of projects by using this method.
It’s about the first step really, getting started, which can be so difficult sometimes.
And I have to say, getting organized works wonders for stress.
It feels so good.
Thank you for joining me on my 7 day adventure.
I will be back this week with more tales and nonsense.
The moon is shining in my window as I type, with one star right above it to the right.
Regular blogging is back.
Matty is snoring on my foot, as it is past his bedtime.
He will be 12 on September 1st, and still runs like a teenager.
As for blogging…
Let me know if there are any topics or things you’d like me to share or chat about.
Thank you for stopping by for afternoon tea, and 7 days of tales.
I promise to see you sooner than soon.
I have oodles of orders to ship out tomorrow, and then I’ll head out to the garden to take photos.
It’s so easy to just use your phone, so taking out my big camera really grounds me and calms my soul.
I also have projects in the studio that I should share.
I’ve done soooo many paintings the last couple of years that I have never shared.
Hopefully I will get better at all of that again.
Sending big hugs your way!
Love, Vanessa

I have SO enjoyed these seven days….it put me right back to the Golden Era of blogging where you made the daily rounds and visited your ‘regulars’. I used to post far more often as well…I manage once per week(ish) now and that feels like a good compromise. I’m very glad you’re going to be blogging regularly…I visit Instagram very infrequently so tend to ‘miss out’ on people’s goings-on…but that’s necessary for me to maintain my sanity 😀
As for tea — well! I’m a native Brit so was weaned on tea. I’ve had to switch to decaffeinated in the last while (it no longer agrees with me) but, like your ML, the kettle is on multiple times in my day. I start and end my day with tea….and have a few in the middle for good measure. 😀
Dear Vanessa,
I so enjoy your blog, especially excited by your seven days of loveliness, and am very glad you are continuing. I do not care for the Instagram format and have mourned the loss of so many blogs that I read faithfully. I believe we feed more of our own soul when we slow down to truly read and get to know another soul’s beautiful thoughts and creations, and that process takes more than an “instant.” Thank you so much for the week of happy times reading your blog!
Sincerely yours,
Margaret
this has been the most fun, seeing into your world all these days. i’m not much of a tea drinker. i’m from the south and was brought up on lipton black tea and never liked it. but i’ve found that i love fruit teas. peach, cherry, blueberry…yum…
i was thinking this morning about how overwhelmed my messy house is making me feel and trying to figure out how to start tackling it. i love your idea about little snippets of time. so when i get off the computer i’m going to set my alarm for 20 minutes and get started! 🙂
love, kisses & magical wishes.

ps…hugs & kisses to Matty.
Well this was absolutely enjoyable! You truly are a bright shiny pink and orange glittery gal!
I have been a fan of your blog for many years. Family problems & the like kept me off the computer for a few years now. Not that I am online more – I went looking for my favorites and found that most seemed to have given up on blogging. So I was thrilled to find that you are still making magic with your words as well as your wonderful pictures. I have read each and every one of your seven day challenge post and loved each one.
I have also read back a few months or so and offer you my sympathies over the lose of your fur friends. Blessings to you and when you are ready to adopt again – I pray you find an awesome buddy to share new adventure with.
Thank you for a lovely 7 days. You brighten our world. 💖
Thank you so much for enjoying these seven days, they flew by. I think the blogging world is suiting me better these days. I have enjoyed Instagram, but it moves too fast and I needed a little bit of a slow down in my life ,or more like a slowing down of my brain 🙂 <3
I absolutely agree with you Margaret, the instant might be convenient, but we lose a lot of the personal connections for sure. Thank you for enjoying my 7 days of blogging <3
The allotted time trick really does work. Now instead of being like, it’s going to take me dayyyyys to organize this or that – I now say, okay, this is only getting 1 hour of my time today, and lo and behold it’s sometimes all the time I needed. I more needed a push to get started. I can literally hold so much apathy for things I do not want to do, and yet I know doing them would make me feel better. So, this trick has been invaluable to me. Especially, being home so much these last 1.5 years, I begin to feel like not doing things a lot, Oopsie 😉 xoxo Laura!
Thank you thank you!!!! <3
Thank you Penny, I am so glad I was still here. Where did everyone go? 🙂 Life I suppose, but I am happy to be here, that’s for sure. Thank you so much for enjoying your visits here <3
Thank you so mush Miss Kolleen <3 <3

I love coffee it gets me up to a busy work schedule. However, I do enjoy teas as well. Fruit teas are the bomb for me! But lately teas with ginger are so nice too!
Hip hip horary! I am trilled to hear that you will be blogging on a regular basis. I would love for you to share all that you do, as well as perhaps some of these topics.
1. Your lovely Art
2. Antiques/collections
3. Garden, flowers and garden creatures
4. Family stories/music
5. Home tours
6. Closet tour/organization
7. Cooking
Thank you again for your hospitality! Xoxo
Your tea party is very special. It inspires me.
Yes, I do have tea every day, but sadly cupcakes and sandwiches don’t always come along. And I do drink caffeine which I would very much miss if I could not. My tea drinking has brought special friends into my life. I love serving them cups of tea in my garden house.
Such a lovely blog post* I always enjoy them so much
yes I drink tea, English Breakfast and herbal teas, love love love tea
I am sure whatever you decide to blog about we will all love. But I do love crafty things, like if you are doing a new craft or project in the house, would love to see more of things like that. I like the ideas I get when I see others doing fun things like that
Love your sweet room off of your bedroom, looks pretty large*
