I thought today might be a lovely day to venture into the past…
Into a time of delicate lace, embroidered flowers and pink velvet trim.
Can you even begin to imagine that such a beautiful frock could exist?
That it could have made it to modern day with no damage, and that somehow it would be living with me?
Pick your cup of tea and I will share more photos with you in my tea room.
I can not even begin to dream of living in a time where such a dress would be made.
With exquisite quality and incredible attention to every delicate detail.
And the colors, oh such colors!
It is a small dress, although long, so I assume it was likely made for a girl of 13 or so.
The dress was being sold by a gal named Myko that I know on Instagram, who is an antiques dealer and sells on eBay.
(you can find her on eBay by searching for seller, MarinaMyko)
She sells a menagerie of old beautiful items, but when this dress came up, I knew it had to come live with me.
To open the box was to be left speechless.
I look at it every single day and wonder who wore it?
Was it for a young girl's birthday, or tea in a beautiful old garden?
I am not sure, nor do I have a clue, but I invent tales about this dress all the time.
What do you think the story behind it is?
I hang it on my pink pumpkin, pink cabinet, and admire it daily since February.
I think I will have to store it in acid free paper, in a proper box for preserving such things, soon.
I just love it so much.
The pleats and gathers, the velvet details.
The taffeta skirt, with a thin layer of mesh over it.
The colors, the patina.
It takes me to another place in time.
I hang her amongst other pink friends…
The pink pumpkin family, which are daring to creep out.
They want me to let them out early because autumn comes and goes so quickly.
I started using pink in my Halloween decor a decade ago or more.
I remember folks saying, pink on Halloween?
What is this madness 🙂
And I'd say, but pink and orange are scrumptious together.
And now it's everywhere, and a total thing, Pinkoween.
I love that!
And so, pink pumpkins and my pink tea-time dreams dress live in perfect harmony.
Should I really keep adding things to my life that make me dream?
I live in a vast world of tales as is.
I for one think, you can't have enough reason to dream and imagine.
But can you imagine really, going back in time for just an afternoon.
For tea hour, in a great old manor, during Victorian times.
It would have to be with the most eccentric and curious aunt, who has little ribboned dogs.
And inspires you to follow your heart, as you look out wavy glass windows onto a wondrous garden.
Who invites you over to paint, and float in a boat with big lace umbrellas on her lake.
My whole life I have dreamt of big old Victorian houses and epic attics filled with treasures.
Much like the Attic in the book Flowers in the Attic, remember that?
I was a teen who devoured V.C. Andrews books, did you?
I have all these thoughts that have been with me since a child.
Almost like memories that have always been with me, but I don't know how they got there.
Ah, well…
I veer into nonsensical wanderings, but I do have fun with that.
So, there you have the lovely Victorian dress that I have been meaning to share for many moons.
Pink velvet, and pink pumpkins.
It's not too soon, is it?
😉
See you tomorrow for day 7.
The days have simply flown by.
I'll post the music below, that I have been listening to whilst typing this.
Lots of Love,
Vanessa
ps:
The 80's Anne of Green Gables Soundtrack is what I have been listening to whilst typing.
(soundtrack of my youthful heart)
I was, and will always be, a tried and true Anne girl <3 <3 <3

ps…hugs & kisses to Matty.
It is splendid….but please don’t pack it away! No one will get to see it. Keep it out to enjoy. I have a lace dress hanging on the inside of a door and I love walking past it each day…all during the day! These colors are divine! Hugs!
The young lady’s Victorian frock is so beautiful! It reminds me of the dresses my grandmother would make for me when I was a little girl. It’s so beautiful with delicate lace and velvet… My word, it’s so lovely! I wonder too whom it belonged to.
Did you ever watch “Somewhere it Time”? Such a beautiful movie of going back in time! I am so glad that the lovely frock is now among your beautiful collection! Xoxo
Thank you Laura, pink everything today it seems😊💕
When I was growing up we spent half years in California. One year my family & me were all cozy with the sounds of the ocean coming in our windows in Coronado & we watched Somewhere in Time together, on repeat for the whole weekend. It became a family favorite & we always listen to the soundtrack. It has a sort of nostalgia for my family. I often dream of living on Mackinac Island♡
Oh Vanessa, your dress is so scrumptious! Me thinks it may be Edwardian, but I’m not sure. Do you have any history on it or are there any interior labels? I love the detail and car that went into clothing of the past. 💖💕💖
Oops!…CARE. 🥴😉
Oh, how magnificent!! What an exquisite dress…can you imagine the stories? I certainly can.
I have such a Thing for olden times….I’ve been watching Poirot and I’m so taken with the care with which folk from the 30s and 40s dressed themselves…*sigh*….no raggedy sweatpants for them. 🙂
A pink Halloween sounds rather perfect to me. 🙂
Definitely not to soon to share. I have a small collection of vintage children’s clothes tucked away. This dress reminds me of one of the dresses I have. I love it and it is fun to imagine and make up stories especially if they include a tea party. Pink pumpkins and a sweet vintage dress will make any day a happy day.
I agree, I love it so much! The gal I purchased it from said it was Victorian, based on who she purchased it from, but I do think it could be Edwardian as well. Close enough time frame for sure. I can not believe that it is in such amazing condition after all of these years. It must have been locked away in a trunk or something the whole time. Not one moth hole, nothing. It’s amazing really <3 <3
I had to laugh, yes, no raggedy sweat pants. Imagine if they would have know what we have turned in to? They would be horrified, we are so undignified without girdles and petticoats, tee hee. Pink Halloween it is 😉
I love old frocks, they are just such treasures. Cheers to pink pumpkins and gowns from olden days <3
I agree, they should stay out. But I’d love to preserve the history as well, since it is so very old. I will find a shadow box or such, but for now I am enjoying it hanging in the tea room, just as you enjoy yours as well <3 <3
I play in the past a lot, with costumes and events – I love it 🙂
Of note: my seamstress friend (professional) has a mannequin in one of her rooms, and she rotates her favorite antique clothes onto that. When not in use, they are carefully stored/preserved, just as you mentioned! She says that way she is able to both enjoy and protect similar treasures.
Anne and Diana forever! Especially The Highwayman sequence.
What an amazing dress, its so so pretty and of course I love the color because Pink is one of my favorites. I love old dresses* I remember years ago I saw on one of your blog posts, you painted baby pumpkins with pink and orange stripes and I fell in love. I made a bunch and have been hooked since with pink pumpkins. Your dress looks perfect with your pink pumpkins***
deezie
Beautiful song choice; I love your taste in books and shows, being a fan of both Anne Of Green Gables and Flowers In The Attic. Also, I agree it would be delightful to go back in time for an afternoon to have a tea like that with an aunt like you described. And, no, you can never have enough dreams (or things that make you dream). I also don’t see why you can’t have pink involved in Halloween. If it’s what makes you happy, go for it.
Nice, everything is really beautiful around. Kudos!
