A Secret Sweet Treat

Well, I suppose it's not so secret, since I am telling you ;)  …

Sooooo, the secret is that, I am working on a super special Valentine's Day present, for a super special person, that I looooove.

You see, it's not exactly easy to say that this person is super special, and that I love this person oodles and oodles.  I mean, I do (even though sometimes I can't stand her).  But, it's still sort of tricky to say I love her bunches, when that person is…

ME.

Yes, I am my own special Valentine.

Throughout the years, I have shared posts in February that tell of how, I LOVE Valentine's day.  However, I love this day because I use it as a me me meeeeee day.

It's the one day that is maybe even better than a birthday.

Because, my most important Valentine, is myself.

In the beginning (a few years ago) I was sort of silly about being my own Valentine.  Doing it in a sort of joking way.

But now, I am crazy serious about it, and I go out of my way to make sure my super special Valentine has a splendid little day. (so, I am working on something that might take until V-day to be done)

It's so important to be good to yourself, even if it is a difficult feat.  It will get easier over time.

If you sort of delete the idea of someone else being your Valentine (along with all of the expectations that can create), you can't imagine how fun Valentine's day can actually be.

First of all, I love red and pink.

Second of all, I think a heart shape is the bestest shape on earth.

And C, when you become your very own Valentine, you actually enjoy the over-zealous shop offerings of stuffed hearts with faces, and plush roses.

So, I am working on my Valentine's day gift to myself.  (have been for the last week)

Plus painting, and doing a million other things.

Yesterday, Matty and I spent the entire day at the city house packing my car with lots of treasures (big furniture etc. – my arms are sore today), that I wanted to bring to the country house.  Pretty soon I will have to just face the fact that, I officially live full-time in the country, and love love love it here, and that's that.

Sooooo, I was at Home Depot today at 7 a.m., then ran a long list of errands (getting ready for planting for spring too), and am about to keep working on my Valentine's day gift.

Which might take me a couple more weeks.

Hopefully less.

I have sooo been enjoying using Mister Lovee's workshop, and his saw and such.

I can't wait to show you when I'm done.

I also have a couple of paintings I am working on too.

Phew, busy as a beeeeee.

Bzzzzzzzz.

Love, V

A Sparkly Heart see you soon

ps:  I am soooo loving all the February magazine subscriptions I receive.

Yumm.

It's a fab way to get over the holiday's are gone blues.

pss:  Mister Lovee is a darned good Valentine, I shouldn't overlook that.  He gets major brownie points.  But, even so, it is still important to be nice to oneself, on any ole day for that matter ;)

  1. Vanessa:
I love that idea…being your own Valentine. Hmmmm….I wonder if I could do that?

  2. This is such a good idea!
When I worked as a substitute teacher, I once gave a bunch of 9th graders a homework assignment which was to write a love letter to themselves 😀 and preferably post it as well. Of course, they didn’t have to show me or anyone else what they wrote but they had to hand in a little report on how it made them feel and tell me a bit about how they did it.
What kind of freaky big car do you own, btw, to be able to transport lots of huge furniture, yourself and a dog? 😀

  3. Celia says:

You are SO amazing!!! This is such a beautiful idea…..and you a beautiful person.

  4. m says:

I’m so in love with myself! Thanks V for the reminder! 😉

  5. Chris says:

You know, this is something that, really, never occurred to me. But it’s so cool that I’m doing it.
I may even cook myself a special meal, and not invite anyone!

  6. Kelly says:

You fooled me, I thought you were whipping up some magical heart shaped dog biscuit treats for your furry Matty and Miles. You never cease to amaze me with all your creativity! I too look forward to Valentines Day to wash away the end of the Christmas blues. I also like the idea of treating oneself as a way to not give into the crazy expectations game we can conjure up in our heads.
I believe this awesome AZ weather must really stir up your creative genius. I can’t wait to see what you are up to in the workshop. <3<3<3<3 Your Surprises! Kelly

  7. natalea says:

I love that you are your own Valentine! I feel the same way! I completely agree with the concept and I’m loving that I’m not the only one who feels this way! SO I can’t wait to see what you make yourself…I need to make myself something too. Every year I have a Valentines Tea or Art party for my friends and girl-members-of-the-family and that’s a gift to myself. Valentines Day is definitely one of the best holidays! Enjoy yours!
    xo natalea

  8. Linda Diane says:

Pampering oneself is definitely a way to feel special, isn’t it? Ohhh, there you go leaving us hanging, wondering what projects you are up to! You sneaky gal. That’s just one way of keeping us coming back for more. (Oh, plus the fact that we luuuuuvs you!)

  9. Kaci says:

I should have thought of being my own Valentine all the times I had crappy ones! ha, at least those days are over 🙂
Can’t wait to see your surprise!

  10. Pat says:

I am a firm believer in pampering oneself…so glad you do this too! I will be anxious to see what you’re doing. 🙂
    xo
    Pat

  11. I agree, you should always treat yourself, tee hee 😉 And can’t wait to see what you are making V *squeal*
    Hugs,
    Jamie 🙂

  12. You are one silly girl, Vanessa!
I was giggling with delight reading about you making yourself a special Valentine’s Day gift. But…Why not? You are the only one who really knows what you love the most.
I can hardly wait to see what it is!
What magical fun you must be having…
    Ta! Ta! for now
    Miss Teresa

  13. Rhonda Roo says:

Oh! Oh! You’re right! Oscar Wilde is with you all the way-he said:
“To love oneself is the beginning of a life-long romance”
🙂 See? Brilliant! And so it should be
Vanessa Valencia Valentines Day with a Fanciful Twist!
And, a surprise treat! Yay! it’s got to be awesome for a caped gypsy heroine, to be sure. 🙂

    😮 )
Yummmmmm pretty candy you can wear-the best kind ever 😉
I think I’m going to call it roo hearts roo day around here….and take a page from you and do something fabulous…
    xoxoxoxox (roo hearts you too!)

  14. deborah says:

Sweet, sweet, soft photos. Me loves! So my little Magical Muse has become an early morning elfin. I am quite impressed. Did you wear your prairie skirt to Home Depot? Don’t tell and just leave me with the image. Sweet, soft image. **blows kisses** Deb

  15. foo says:

Thanks for reminding me to be good to myself. I am my own best Valentine and I need to continue to remember that.
    xoxo

  16. Deirdre says:

Oh goodness! Being your own Valentine…what a sweet thing to post! I actually teared up when I read it. I truly did. Now I won’t have to feel guilty when I down 5 lbs of chocolate, I am my own Valentine, afterall!
Thanks for giving us such a nice post, and GOR-GE-OUS pics.
    Deirdre

  17. Renee says:

    I think that’s a great idea.
Too bad we are sometimes our own worst enemy and so hard on ourselves.
So maybe we should all make ourselves a gift and then show you what we made:)

  18. Marlene says:

mIzZ “V”, i am with you 100% on being your own valentine…U have to love one self before someone else cause who not but yourself is a best match for U…
i’ve been doing this for a few years now & i must stay its the best… one year i took myself to a gourmet culinary institute that only has dinner serve on V-Day, Spring Meal & Fall Meal….its a 5 course dinner & you have a choice to choose from each course one of the items (there are only two per course to choose from)i sat next to the loviliest elderly couple who included me in some of their conversations they were the icing of the day pure magic…and the meal was DELICIOUSly devine…
U’ve put me into the creative spirit & have decided that this year i’m going to make something for myself & show it on my blOZ… beeserendipitous.blogspot.com ~ oh what fun this will bee… thanks mIzZ “V”…you are a blessing in deguise for all of us…
have a honey of a day ~ may sweet things come your way! Marlene aka mIzZ(hONeY)bEe ;o) xox

  19. Very special! 😀 lovely! Have a Happy Valentine’s Day! 😀
I love your blog! 😀 It’s very magical and sweet!

  20. Wendy S. says:

What a beautiful idea. I’m not in a romantic relationship and always am kind of blue on Valentine’s Day, but this year, it will be different. You’ve inspired me to treat myself as my own beloved and buy/make myself something that will make me feel warm and loved all over. Thank you, Vanessa and I can’t wait to hear you give us hints or tutorials about what you’ve going to gift yourself with 🙂

  21. Stacy says:

Where did you come from and how did you get so smart? I’ve been waaay too down on myself lately and this is a perfect pick-me-up. Thank you!!!! Go Vanessa and…go me!!!!

  22. Theresa says:

Miss Vanessa – that is just the best! You are correct – you need to love yourself. In order to give love and share love, you need to remember how special you are most of all. 🙂 All that candy looks so fun and sweet – have fun making your own Valentine!!! I think I have been inspired to make something just for me (preferably calorie-free). 😉 Have a magical day, Vanessa!!! xoxo Theresa

  23. Shell says:

That is so cool to be your own Valentine. I love this idea!! You always know what to get yourself and never be disappointed.

  24. LAURA says:

I think I NEED to keep coming back to read this. I am in a weird state right now. It’s not easy, but I make it harder than it should be. I need to learn how to be my own valentine every single day. You really have the self-love deal down…that sense of worthiness. I’m on the brink, but haven’t completely crossed the bridge yet. That’s why I come here…it isn’t because it’s so pretty (and it is), it’s because you seem so able to celebrate all aspects of life…the pinks and the grays.

  25. GG Pinkster says:

While singing and a whistling around,
I stopped and did look down.
    And there to my surprise,
Right in front of my eyes-
Were magical shoes on my feet-
With wings and hearts on trees.
Oh what a rush too good to hush,
This Valentine Adventure is a Must.
The woofies of course nod there heads
As they roll in their grassy bed.
    So quick as a wink
    It’s another love drink-
    Happy Valentine’s making Ms. V.V.
and cheers 2 us as me’s.
    xox Pinksterita

  26. Brilliant, friend!!!! Brilliant! I think your arms are tired because you fly around the world sharing your light with all of us and that is the secret… hee hee. Love thyself and the world is lovable. Blessings.

  27. what a marvellous idea… never think of myself in that way and neither does anyone else!!!!! You are a busy bee getting to the final part of your dream living in the country. Great news….. Hugs Olive xxx

  28. Elaine L. says:

    I love your idea!
I have been very codependent during my lifetime, always thinking of and worrying about my family members. I have always been a giver of my time and emotions.
I’m currently finishing my last chemo session, after six months, for ovarian cancer, I think that loving myself and placing my self first might be one of the keys to my attaining prolonged remission.
I’m going to start working on it, today.
I don’t always leave a post, but do want you to know that your blog always leaves me with a smile and a lift in my step. It’s so magical and means a lot to me to have this place to come to.
    Love You Lots,
    ~elaine~

  29. I too LOVE Valentine’s day, and agree – it can be about whoever we want, including ourselves! Or how about our bestest girl friends? Our even our furry friends? Who says it has to be about a guy? (although that’s fun too, hehe)…
Can’t wait to see what you’re constructing for yourself, and wishing you an early Happy Hearts Day!
    🖤 Carolee

  30. stephanie says:

well said! We should all treasure our sweet selves.
Cannot quite believe though that it IS almost February. I have work ready for a very fun show…Matter of heART where we shall all eat cupcakes and drink champagne!!
    x..x

  31. nisipici says:

I think this is a supremely wonderful idea! I must tell you that I did something similar with Christmas this year. And somehow this was connected to me missing my Mama who passed away last May. I wanted lots of packages under the tree (they didn’t have to cost a lot) so I made sure Santa (me) brought me all the things I wanted and had them wrapped and under the tree on Christmas morning. I didn’t have to “hope” my Honey Bunny would read my mind and get me exactly the right thing because Santa knew exactly what I wanted and delivered it. It was a very good Christmas. You have inspired me to make it a very good Valentine’s day, too.
    xoxo

  32. Ok, I am grabbing that little heart that says LOVE BUG> yummmy. I adore red and pink as well. So much fun having yourself as a Valentine. I am so excited about trying that this year. I cannot wait to see your new paintings, and excited to find out what you are doing in the garden this Spring. Have a wonderfully magical and Adventurous day,
    Whimsy and Wishes,
    Wendy from Wonderland

  33. Katharine says:

I love your idea!!! I was just looking at old blog posts, on my own blog, and I wrote about Valentines Day, 2010 being a drag. Well I love all the goofy pink & red hearts and stuff and decorate and do things for myself. Maybe I’ll do stuff to share on my blog, but I’m going to be selfish this year. Oh don’t worry I’ll remember everyone else, but you are right..we have to pamper ourselves so we feel the energy to pamper everyone else. 🙂

  34. Melanie Jade says:

What a great idea! I’ve always loved V-day, but I never thought of making Valentine’s for myself! I LOVE it! I’m going to start right away!

  35. SueAnn says:

Oh I will!! I will!! Make Valentine’s a special day just for me!! I love that!!
I am going to start right now and plan for special gifts and treats just for me.
    Woot!! Woot!!
    Thanks ever so much!
    Hugging you
    SueAnn
