Little Orange Thoughts and You (+ radio tid-bits)

I have a question for you, important it seems.  Not important like, life changing or anything.  But maybe important like, mood changing?  Perhaps it's important in the fanciful I love magic sort of way?

So, here it goes.

What does this image evoke at first glance?

Pumpkin love 3

Anything?  Come on, something, a little butterfly excitement in your tummy maybe?

Memories of autumn perhaps?

Fresh crisp evenings?

Magic in the air?

Pumpkin love 2

Pumpkin pie, and witches flight?

I'll tell you what it evokes in me, if you'd like?

Pumpkin love 1

I think, costumes, and golden leaves.

Striped stockings and crooked shoes.

The warm sweet scent of cinnamon and pumpkin.

Evenings in the garden, candles through Jack-O-Lantern smiles.

Feeling 5 years old, and squealing at the moon with glee.

Oh yes, that and more, is what curly cues on pumpkins evoke in me…

Pumpkin love 8

Do you feel it?

Memories of autumns past?

Oh please please say you do 😉

Witch's breeze and cauldron's bubble, night time sparkles and spells are mumbled…

I love the enchantment and inspiration of October Dreams.

Can you feel it?

Pumpkin love 4

I know what you are thinking.

"Is she nutzz?  It's mid-summer for goodness' sake…"

But, my garden is gifting babes of autumn lore, and I am tumbling head first into fantasy and pumpkin love smores.

And while I gather seeds, for next year's planting season…

Garden twists 14a

I think about fall, and how it's really not that far away.

Autumn and the holidays alike, soar in so quickly that, I think I shall prepare early this year.  Like, now.  It comes in an instant, and leaves in the blink of an eye. I don't want to miss a drop.

And, I dare say, Mister Pumpkin (from last year) is itching for a new head.

Pumpkin love 10

I mean, who are we to complain about wrinkles we acquire over dozens of years, when Mr. and Mrs. Pumpkin look like this in a matter of months (or less)?

Pumpkin love 9

And, I do believe that their wrinkles add a bit of charming character, don't you think?

Perhaps we should see our own as such?  Maybe I am totally off my rocker, but I sort of like my little wrinkles.  Am I insane?  Oh wait, don't answer that…. 😉

Pumpkin love 11

Well, I best go get ready to be on the Artistically Speaking radio show, as I feel a wave of anxiety coming on.  Please don't divorce me if I sound like a troll.  Okay?  Pinky promise?

If you tune in, and don't hear me, it's that I fainted and I am waiting for some smelling salts 😉

I'm Joking………

On a more serious note –

ps:  The show is over, YAY!!  However, you can listen to the show any time by visiting Artistically Speaking, and scrolling down to the list of previous shows.  Thank you all who joined in.  I wish I could have seen the live chat.  But, I wish even more that you all were at my house after the show, because I was so relieved for it to be over (although I did have fun after my nerves subsided), that I was beyond ready to party!!  ;)
Muches of LOVE ~ V

pps:  PLEASE SLAP ME for saying definitely so often.  I didn't even know that word was in my vocabulary, ohhh jeeeez 😉
  1. These images conjure up the images of bonfires at midnight, witches’ cackles and romps through fields of corn! Anticpating autumn and all that it brings!

  2. oh yay! Break a leg!
I see a little twirly robot guy in the photo.
    Actually.
    😮

  3. shibori girl says:

HOW exciting! I’ll be tuning in to hear my favorite blogger – I know you won’t be in need of smelling salts. 🙂
As for my wrinkles, I feel I’ve earned each one – each has a story, though not all of them good. I feel sadness when I see some startlet with her face stretched beyond nature, feeling that she is losing herself to conform to some twisted ideal beauty.
So, I say, Mother Time, bring ’em on!
    xoxo,
    Kate
I do hope Matty has recovered from his trauma <3

  4. If you are insane then I am too! I love Fall and pumpkins and witches and everything about the season. Halloween is my favorite Holiday!
Good luck on your interview. I hope to be listening.
    Take Care,
    Tracy M.
    P.S. Great pumpkins!!!!!!!!

  5. sarah says:

Just like most of the rest of the country, we here on the coast of Maine are living with the hazies, hot, and humid weather. It sends me to my closet to organize my sweaters, to my cookbooks to plan autumn menus, and to dreaming of cool breezy nights.
I LOVE autumn, and your post of pumpkin photos help temper another 90 degree day.
    Enjoy the interview.
    Sarah

  6. I just began a painting with pumpkins, so we are mad together! It is soo hot (not AZ hot,) but too hot for four little fair-haired ones to romp for long without wilting, and I am stuck indoors (not my favorite) and soo pumpkins and kitties, all black and and ghosties are on the move here. Funny, uncanny girlfriend. I wish you luck and fun for your interview! Blessings.

  7. Alia says:

Halloween is my favoritest holiday, yay! So I am right there with you. Looking forward to the show!

  8. Lynda says:

I cant wait for fall! Good luck on your show today, Im sure you will do fabulously! 🙂

  9. Well……..at first glance, the top pumpkin photo made me think of a Headless Cinderella, with her legs crossed, just waiting for Prince Charming to slide the slipper on………the the big pumpkin underneath was just WAITINGto become her coach (after she found her head, of course!)
The smushed pumpkin face reminded me of…….me. YIKES!!!!! Sad but true!
I LOVED this post! Love it, love it, love it! Keep doing more! You brighten my day!

  10. Nelly says:

Here I was thinking I was the only one in az dreaming up pumpkins in the middle of July!
Seeing this magical fruit makes me want to bake pumpkin bread…The pumpkin is so enchanting and I love all the lore that it brings. Thanx so much for giving us a peek at what spooky holiday is around the corner, I know I can’t wait:)

  11. teresa says:

Got my timer set for VANESSA…on blog talk RADIO!
    You GO Sweet Girl!
    xo
Doogan and I will be blowing you KISSES from Bainbridge as we LISTEN!
    xoxoxoxoxoxoxoox

  12. Cori G. says:

Oh your pumpkins are pure delightment!!! I too am growing pumpkins in my garden only they seem to be a weence bit shy of peeking from beneath their green fuzzy leaves. Mine are only about 5 inches round while yours look So MUCH LARGER…teehee.
I am also of the opinion that Mister & Mrs. Pumpkins wrinkles are smashing…smashing pumpkins, get it? I know, corny ;-). I need to run along now and find my earbuds so can hear the show. See you there, my Fanciful Friendling.

  13. Weeeee, listening to you right now V…you are super cute (of course 😉 tee hee! Okay, short comment…off to ‘try’ and listen in the midst of my girls playing doll with me, hahaha…
    Jamie 🙂

  14. teresa says:

    What an HONOR Sweet Vanessa!
It was such a delightful PLEASURE to hear you speak straight from the HEART!
I am blessed to call you my little magical friend.
    Snuggles to Matty!
    xo

  15. Linda Diane says:

Just listened to your blog talk radio interview. Accidentally missed the first 15 minutes because I was wickedly Sunday napping! Argh! So much fun to hear you! Great job!
I can’t WAIT ’til autumn. The summer heat doth beateth down, and I am wilting fast.
I am trying to fight the wrinkles with a wee bit of help from the beauty product world, but am not counting on any kind of SUPER miracles. Just perhaps a mini improvement here and there. : )

  16. Rhonda Roo says:

    {{{CLAP CLAP CLAP}}}{{THUNDEROUS APPLAUSE}}
Good job Veevala! That was fun, and so many fellow blogarinas in chat made it fun too 🙂
You have a great skill, for writing like you talk and vice versa, and always being you, genuine to the core of your gumball covered heart.
OH OH~GREAT PUMPKIN! I think of Charlie Brown & Linus waiting for the (your??) great pumpkin…
I’m so ready for fall right now. I think I’ll rake up all the leaves that blew down during yesterday’s storm and sort of jump in them…one toe at a time..and then I’ll make candy apples!!HOORAH!!

  17. Jo says:

Utter excitement with the first photo! My second dose of Autumn & Halloween today and it’s doing my soul such Good! YAY!

    Vanessa,
I love your pumpkins, it makes me think of Fall. I just love Autumn. I think pumpkins here start to harvest in September.
I just listened to the show. I loved it. Your interview was wonderful. You were just as real over the radio as you are on your blog every day. I loved how you shared so many tips and stories. I am glad that you shared about the Dutch man, because we all have had one of those in our life.
    Congratulations on a wonderful interview.
    Karen

  19. You are absolutely charming. And just how I thought you would sound.
I really appreciated your comments about finding what moves you and going for it. There is nothing worse than looking back and having regrets that you didn’t try.
Dang it, Miss Vanessa, you have inspired me again! I am encouraged that you can make a living at your art if you work hard and see those opportunities that are around you all the time.
Thank you for sharing so freely of yourself with all of us. It is in the building of communities and making deep connections that makes blogging thrive. I recall exactly when I found you…it was like a revelation, and I wouldn’t have found you without Artful Blogging, so I am so glad that you believed that wasn’t a prank!
    Enjoy the day!
    Erin

  20. Marilyn says:

Congratulations on the show. How exciting for you. But please don’t rush autumn, I am just beginning to enjoy summer. My garden is far, far behind yours.

  21. Lynette says:

Congratulations..I will definitely go in and listen to your interview! I’m sure you were brilliant…
And I definitely feel the lure of the fall..the absolute BEST season of the year. I, too am dreaming of pumpkins and witches, and all things autumnal! I loved this post and its promise of things to come…
    Lynette

  22. Krista Komis says:

Ohhh don’t even get me started on pumpkin loving/cauldron bubbling/fall magic/halloween fun!
I am so ready for fall, I even dug out some of my old Halloween magazines that are full of fun crafts & decorating ideas…just thinking about it gets me excited!! (I even found my broomstick, heehee)
    We are kindred spirits, perhaps?
🙂 I can’t wait, it gets more wonderful and perfect and magical every year!

  23. Cellar Door says:

Before knowing what the very first image was a closeup of, it conjured up thoughts of a fairiy’s tangled telephone cord! Little did I know what a pleasant surprise was in store for me as I read on. Your images are beautiful and delightful! It’s as if I can taste their colors! You’ve put the “treat” in this early Trick of Treat!
    Cellar Door

  24. EarthyPaws says:

I’ve only commented on your blog a few times because I’m pretty shy, but I listened to your interview last night, and it was very inspiring! 🙂 I am currently working on getting my work into galleries, and it has become a little frustrating with the no’s all of the time 🙁 but, your story has helped me to keep working hard at it because I know if I keep holding onto my dreams and working at it I will get a yes someday 🙂 Thank you for your inspiring stories! 😀

  25. YAY!!!Just felt like listening to a little sister. The gallery episode in 2 part will hopefully bring hope to many talented artists who have no more faith.
This interview is an absolute delight. DEFINITELY!!!
Keep on spreading love dear blog friend. We are on a mission.
    😉
PS: saw lots of little creatures on your photos. On the first one, I can even see a green mom with a long neck and her child.Funny green little creatures.See them too or am I a loony?

  27. YSLGuy says:

Ahhh, my favorite time of the year. I think of apple picking, choosing the perfect pumpkin, witches brew, warm cider by a fire, handfuls of sweet candy corn, cool crisp nights, time for remembering those who have past on, as we prepare to hunker down for the upcoming winter.

  28. Charmed Life says:

You did a great job on the radio Miss Vanessa! What is so wonderful is that I already “knew” your voice because it comes through so clearly in your writing. Magical:0)
p.s. The two hosts on the show were giving me flashes of the NPR skits from Saturday Night Live though. LOL!!! Loved it :0)
p.p.s. LOVE the pumpkins!!! Are you having your Halloween Soiree again this year? Can’t wait!
    Happy Day!
    Hugs,
    Melissa

  29. Theresa says:

Oh those pumpkins are DIVINE!!! I am VERY much an autumn kind of girl. It’s when I truly most feel alive. The crisp breezes and the crunch of fallen leaves underneath my feet. I always look forward to selecting the most perfect pumpkins for carving – and for PIES!!!
The blog talk was awesome, Vanessa. You were great. I learned so much more about you in the process. 🙂 I wish I were there to celebrate with you, too – munching on snacks and tea! GREAT JOB!!!
    Theresa xoxo

  30. Oh! It reminds me of your wonderful Halloween Parties! We can’t wait! Twyla

  31. Teresa says:

Hi Vanessa! It was so wonderful to listen to you on blog talk yesterday. I felt like I was listening to an old friend. 🙂 I’ve been following your blog for awhile now and I absolutely love you. You are so honest and inspiring. Thanks for sharing. Your posts always brighten my day. You are awesome! <3

  32. Chris says:

Oh, you KNOW I’m going to that link and listen to you! How cool!
You are right about the holidays. I am never ready and I must plan ahead this year. It’s so silly to be caught by surprise when it happens every single year!!

  33. Christine says:

Just wanted to let you know that I listened to your rebroadcast last night while packing up orders. It was enjoyable hearing your thoughts and at times similar experiences with regards to blogging and creating art. I cant believe that gallery owner…jeesh! And good for you for mentioning how long blog posts take to create~they take me a long time and I don’t do nearly as many as you~you make it seem effortless. Oh and the bit about copying….I think you should trademark the phrase “Mind your own business and make art”.I want that on a bumper sticker:)
Hope you are surviving that heat~love the pumpkins but I don;t want to see that just yet~we are just getting our “Spring” here. The garden is beautiful and beckoning me to join it:)

  34. inge says:

    Hello Vanessa,
HALLOWEENPARTY !!! That’s what pops in my head when I see the first photo… You may bet I ‘ll be present !
    But not now yet,…
I still want to savour a bit more the good weather here in belgium, my outside bed, the fire in the garden, my Alice in Wonderlandpath, all the green in my garden ( and a pumpkin growing in my chickenrun…), the cats taking naps in the shadow, my kids, time to create…
    Just enjoy summer vacation…
    greets from belgium
    Inge
PS : the pumpkinheads are great !!! I guess they dry out and grow old so good because of the warm weather at yours. Here my pumpkins rotten after some time…

  35. Betsy Bailey says:

I actually did a little happy dance in my local craft store the other day when I saw that the Autumn/Halloween bits are beginning to emerge. I’m already planning a halloween party!!
I am definitely with you on being excited.

  36. Pixie says:

Oh I see it, I hear it and I feel it. Or long to anyway. I’m tired of heat and humidity and not having the energy to do anything. I can’t wait for that first little snap in the air, the time to pull my cardigans out and drink hot chocolate on the stoop. I can’t wait to step out of my apartment and not immediately feel the stickiness and sweat on my back. Yuck.

  37. waterrose says:

I’m so sorry to have missed it. Hoping to listen to it tonight…we are leaving for Colorado tomorrow and I shouldn’t even be on the computer…lol But I had to stop and see what you were up to! OH….and pumpkins….charlie brown waiting for the Great Pumpkin….really…lol

  38. Deborah says:

Oh my beloved Magical Muse, I must run over right now and listen. My apologies for being so tardy, tarty?? teehee! SPC Ryan was home on leave and got MARRIED!!! Then there was much packing and moving the bride to Fort Hood and my head popped off somewhere along the way. Happy tizzy. I love all these shots. I am anxiously anticipating Autumn too. I catch the bug every year this time…it may date back to when I realized I HAD to have the children’s Halloween costumes made before school started or I would miss out on something. Oops, sorry for this self-serving comment. Now I am off to listen to your interview, which I know CORI listened to live… **blows kisses** Deb

  39. SueAnn says:

Pumpkin dreams for sure!! My plant is huge but no pumpkins yet. Everything is late going this year since we had frost until June 5th!! Yikes!
I love the sights and sounds of October!!! So I am feeling it.
I hope your broadcast debut went well. I am sure it did!
    Hugging you
    SueAnn
