Just Peachy

Peach picking times are amongst us.  You know what that means, right?

Peachy 12

In our house it means that the scent of baked peaches, brown sugar, butter, cinnamon and vanilla, all swirled together, is pouring out the windows…

Peachy 6

I have baked 4 peach cobblers in 3 days (to share with folks), using a pretty delicious recipe I found in a magazine last month (recipe details below).

Peachy 11

It is really good.

I mean really good.

Plus, it's a super way to use the massive amount of peaches we have this year…

Take me to my dreams 13

Every single branch was beyond full this year.

Oodles of peaches, just oodles…

Peachy 1

Such beautiful little specimens.

Peachy 2

Most of them are actually rather gigantic.  We are so delighted, it's borderline silly.  Mister and I take turns saying "look at this one, no no, look at this one, no – look at this one…."

Peachy 3

Huge.

Sweet.

Mmmmmmm.

I never like peaches as a kid.  But now I LOVE them.  When I do my work in the garden, I get up every so often to grab a peach.  I munch it standing right by the tree, fuzz and all.

Take me to my dreams 14

Then I collect a few to bake with.  My fave baked good to date, beating our previous fave of peach crisp, is now peach cobbler.

Peachy 9

Set the table with a few nosegays, invite a beau or friend(s) for peach cobbler, and watch everything else stop.  If only for a minute 😉

Peachy 10

Below is the recipe for pure yumm.

Not tart at all, quite flavorful, and not heavy.  I used salted butter in the end, and liked that very much.  I also did not put the vanilla bean seeds into the peach mixture, but I did use vanilla extract in the batter.

As a tip, lightly spoon on your batter.  You can smooth it out every so gently if you'd like, but I'd rather not mess with mine 😉

So, there you have it.  Peach Cobbler Bliss.

Peachy 8

Yesterday I had Mister Lovee deliver peach cobbler straight out of the oven.  It was so hot that he had to take oven mits with him.  I hope our friends loved it.

Stay for a bite, won't you?

Peachy 5

While we sip and munch, I have to tell you about how huge the twins have gotten.  Huge for me that is.  First of all, from what I have read, two pumpkins growing side by side shouldn't get very big?

Treasures from the vine 19

Also, as I read pumpkin websites I find myself giggling at folks who say things like, "this was a sad year for my pumpkins, they only got to be 90 lbs."

Girl day 12

And, I am like – "I'll take a pumpkin that fits in the palm of my hand and holler, hail pumpkin king!"

So, you can imagine how delighted I am for two rather large (to me) twins.  They are bigger than footballs, by far…

Love them!

Peachy pumpkins twins

And, that is all I have to say about that 😉

I am in love with creative time right now.  I had started several pieces of work before we lost our furry gal this summer, and I just could not find the space in my heart to work on them, until about two weeks ago.  My friend (Mister Paintbrush) is keeping me much company and being quite lovely to hang out with.  I am enjoying every moment with him.

So, I best meet him for coffee, and get to work.

Today's 3 random things (song things)

1) I Love the Villagers, and I love that Conor O'Brien interprets this so beautifully

2)  I really like Charlotte Martin, listen to Stromata here, and I like to listen to Crimson Sky too.  She has a Tori sound that I was worried about, but I actually like her very much. ps: her Sweet Chariot is lovely lovely…

3)  I really enjoy listening to Band of Horses.
  1. sun coming up, cup of tea, little people still sleeping and reading a new post from Miss V…ahh bliss. I am drooling over you peach cobbler, all you summer dwellers are keeping me alive! yum yum yum
what a beautiful table, set for happiness.
    I need some sun!!!!
Im loving your twins, they look like something to be very proud of, Imagine halloween this year, surrounded by your own pumpkins, it just gets better and better!
I think you are such a natural intuitive gardener, which is great because too many people stick to the rules..and who’s rules????

  2. Meghann says:

Oh how lovely! I can’t imagine having a peach tree in my yard – I imagine it would be like my tomato plants – when things ripen, EVERYTHING stops and I sit by the plants and eat until I can’t eat anymore! The cobblers look delicious, the peach trees look amazing, and I actually squealed with delight for your pumpkins – all my blooms are males (so no pumpkins so far 🙁 though I keep hoping), and I hope I get a few small ones to make pies with. I only grow the small ones as the big ones are too big and you can’t bake with them as easily. Try “sugar baby” or another similar if you want baking pumpkins in future (plus they are so small and adorable, lol).
Have a great time baking, I’m off to see if I can buy peach trees for my (cold) growing zone 🙂

  3. Oh oh!! Guess what? I have 7 sugar babies right now, I am soooo
excited. I am sure you will get females, just sure of it
    😉

  4. Courtney says:

I blogged about peaches today too 🙂 LOVE THEM!

  5. Cassandra says:

Oooooh…I’m with you on peaches…love love love them!

Your peach picking time immediately made me think of this song-which I am sure you know-but just in case!

Wish I could come round for cobbler-looks yummy!

  7. Oh I’d love to stay for pie Vanessa, thank you so much, tee hee…it looks de-lish! I’m so glad you are back into your creative time too. You know what I like to do with our picked peaches? Peah MARGARITAS of course 🙂
    Jamie 🙂

  8. Love your pumpkins! And I hope to make a peach cobbler with what meager fare of peaches that were on our tree this year.
I am so happy you are back to creating. Life does have its pauses and I look at creating as part of the healing process when our life was temporarily put on hold.
    Thank you for sharing!
    hugs,
    Miss Teresa

  9. eleni says:

Your photos are always so enchanting… and that Peach Cobbler looks delish… what a lovely spread for Tea!!! I’d be wandering around that beautiful Garden munching Peaches too. I also live in Arizona, but alas, my fruit trees didn’t produce much this Season… but I did get an abundance of fresh Basil and Tomatoes so I can’t complain! *wink*

I never use vanilla bean either – always always mexican vanilla
Abundant thinking brings abundance – my….what a lot of peaches you have, dear! Nature is showing off again……

  24. Oh this is just lovely! Isn’t natures art much, much better than anything we could ever imagine? How it touches all the senses, the smell, the color, the fuzzy touch, and the cobbler… oh what a wonderful reward. I was able to pick enough cherries from our young tree this last week to make the first cherry pie from it. There were enough to even share with the birds in my backyard.
    Blessings ~ Eileen@Star’sFault

  25. Chris says:

    Band of Horses is groovy!
I have never liked peaches. But I make peachy things for my lovee. We react to our tomatoes like you two react to your peaches. YUM!!

  26. Marjorie says:

Eeep! Peaches!! This is a most splendid spot to spend my afternoon, methinks! 🙂 May I pick a pretty peach from your tree!? Such loveliness in the Fanciful Forest of fruits and veggies and beauty!! 🙂

    http://www.cookinglight.com/food/in-season/peach-recipes-00412000067611/page6.html
AND I’ve also made the MOST divine preserves! Did you find that recipe in Victoria, as well? If not, I can send it to you. Think it appeared last year. Yummy yummy yummy! It’s funny – I did not like peaches when I was young, either. I do like them now – but as with apples, I prefer them cooked. OK – there is one VERY random thing about me.
I shall have to try this cobbler recipe, too. For one can never have enough cobbler, I say! 😉
    xoxo Theresa
I LOVE Band of Horses, too. My hubby introduced me to them. We saw them live, in May, when they opened for Pearl Jam. They did a song together. Amazing show!
I am going to check out Charlotte Martin – sounds interesting. Here is someone you may like a lot:

  32. Marilyn says:

Peach cobbler, yummmm! Love your pumpkins too. I have two side by side, but they aren’t are large as yours. They are growing very fast though. The seeds were carried in my bag, now should I say this, from a field in Provence, France last fall. I am so excited to see how they do in my garden.

  33. Miaerowyn says:

    Wonderful post!
That cobbler just looks scrumptious! We have quite a few mom and pop markets close to home that have been selling lots of peaches, think I will have to pick some up and try this recipe!! I know the man will enjoy it, lol!

Almost daily I dip into your blog to read about the wonderful adventures you are having/creating. It is such a refreshing break from my corporate world day. I only wish that I were brave enough to leap out of this world of cubicles and in to a world of creating joy each and every day and loving and appreciating all the things around me. Thank you for sharing all the magic!

  37. Kylee says:

Wonderful peach season, eh? Your trees are simply beautiful! This is what my mother’s trees look like only we need to substitute the peaches with apples…it’s all apple pie, and sauce, and bakes up here! This is my favorite peach recipe this season though:
    http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/patrick-and-gina-neely/grilled-peach-salad-with-balsamic-bacon-vinaigrette-recipe/index.html
In fact, I’m making this up to take to a wedding shower this morning…yummy!!

  44. Oh your peaches are lovely!!! Ours didn’t come out so good this year. We lost one peach tree and the other looks sad too, some kind of bugs or disease. Had nice apricots though, Yummy!
    Take Care,
    Tracy M.

  45. BumbleVee says:

oooooh I do love me a good cobbler! However, mostly I make apple and sometimes apple with rhubarb in it….. must give a peach a try this year….. of course it would be nice to be able to say they are local….but, I don’t think more than a handful of peaches grow around these parts….. so all are imported from somewhere……

  46. Are these peaches actualy came from your garden??? You are so lucky! I wish it could be hot enough here in Belgium to have peaches…(at least we have plums). Think I’ll try this receipe…Just made a banana bread batch today, so yummy!

  47. SueAnn says:

I patiently wait for my pumpkins and my peaches!! I will not tire of waiting…they will come…I have faith!
    Yours give me hope!
    Hugging you
    SueAnn
