Petals, Paint & Pencils…

How about some random tid-bits for today?  Snippets such as candy colored petals from the garden?  I am crazy about candy colors, are you?

They always get my full attention…

You know what I forgot to tell you?

Remember my dressing table that I painted from white to chocolate brown in September?

Well, I loved it chocolate brown – enjoyed it, and then realized, I am much more Marie Antoinette-ish…

So, on a total whim (November 1st), I whipped up a favorite shade by mixing different acrylic paint colors, and…

I now have a sort of teal blue/sea foam green dressing table…

I am now in love.

Totally.

So my kind of color.

Peaceful, yet bright.

I even took off the handles, soaked/stripped off years of paint from the person I got it from 10 years ago (estate sale), and found lovely golden brass metal underneath.

I have been enjoying it all month, candy colors win for me, I guess?

The petals look so pretty lined up on…

That light blue green…

The garden is gifting such sweet scents this week.

I have been drawing quite a lot…

I am so happy when little faces find me, tug on my bloomers, and beg to jump onto paper.

Sometimes they visit me deep in REM sleep, and I have to beg them to hang on so that I don't forget them by morning.  My dream life is so crazy active, I live in two worlds, it feels like.

I am constantly studying, watching ballerinas…

Really playing with my hands, trying to work out gracefulness on paper…

And, don't tell him I told you, but sometimes, I have my own ballerina model…

 Mister Lovee.

Who has to hold a ballet pose while I draw.  He is thrilled at that, I assure you, haha!

I LOVE my breaks with the boys, watching them romp around…

And the best part…

Fresh and tangy pick me ups are all over, in the form of lemons and pomegranates.  I love picking something in the garden, and really enjoying it.

Well, I suppose I have to get back to work now.

The music is playing loud and the paint is drying…

This lovely little, is especially for you…

I hope you are having a super nice day, it is so fresh and lovely outside in my neck of the woods…

What is your outside like right at this moment?

Love, V

A sparkly heart

The dressing table is gorgeous in that colour! Always a delight to visit and see what you’re up to…soon, let’s try to have a phone chat. Miss you! xoxox

  2. Great blue on your dressing table, Vanessa! I got a dresser recently that has the same lines as your table. It is a bright white and I’m going to need to repaint it and tone it down. I need to come up with a “spa blue” color to go with my master bedroom. Mr. Lovee as ballerina is safe with me! : )

  3. Mrs Jones says:

We have fog wreathing the garden like Dragon’s breath but high above the sky is clear and black, sequinned with stars of diamond. It’s beautiful.

  4. Jenn says:

Oh I love the blue! It is almost like a Tiffany blue! So delicious. Perfect for Christmas and the frosty, wintery colors of the season!

  5. Celia says:

I want a pomegranate so bad! They were available in the stores around here for a very short time….I only found them once….I only had ONE pomegranate this season….SO SAD.

  6. I think I even see a lavender rose! Enjoy the holiday week ahead, my friend! Keep dreaming! 🖤

  7. Cameron says:

Oooo, I love the peek at your sketches….truly beautiful…and candy colored roses are a special treat to see right now….steady rain and foggy gray clouds above…
I do so enjoy having a perfect excuse to stay in my jammies and drink hot cocoa, though 🙂

    V,
Oh my! I knew you were going to repaint that table! Perhaps I am psychic? We shall see…Looks gorgeous, by the way! I am a huge fan of that color paired with gold. Lovely lovely! And I have a teacup that shade of blue/teal with gold. So pretty!
The candy colored-roses are absolute eye candy at its brightest! I can’t tell you how much you have perked up my day 🙂
Also, the weather around here is cold and chilly–actually I am bundled up into two sweatshirts, yoga sweats, and thick black socks. Lovely! I love this weather, I tell ya. I need to move somewhere where it’s always cold.
(Just so you know…it is very difficult to leave a comment when your fluffy cat is rubbing against your hand and purring, walking all over your keyboard, and positively begging for attention.)
Anyway, Pogo is calling me (that’s the fluffy little kitty I mentioned) and I must pet him.
Love the colors and drawings and weather of your post and the autumn season in general. I love the fiery trees! Don’t you?
Sending you bundles of autumn magic,
    Jessica

P.S…I am waaaay behind on my blogging at the moment. I have been so busy lately! Just in case anyone is wondering where on earth I have been since Halloween (because yes, I am still back there) please do not fret. I will be getting back on track tomorrow. Just in case anyone was wondering. Thanks for your patience!

It’s miserable in my neck of the woods. Cold and rainy, dreary and glum….but your table brought a “wow” to my lips. Gorgeous, absolutely gorgeous. And, so are the roses. Hope you are feeling better, it appears from your posts you are back among the living after the dreaded V. TPL

Fall showers and great bellows of fresh air with:
Four glorious thunderclaps and three mighty rains.
Making adventure box scenes. Pom’s, pear’s persimmons with the very favorite honey apples that are so crisp and light that you smile with each bite. Banana panpuff cakes with rum.
    xo

  11. I had a vanity like that growing up, nicely done. Isnt that more rewarding than store bought? Thank you for the colours and blooms, I live in northern Ontario(Neil Young knows) and the frost is moving in to stay….
    Love to visit you…🖤Debi

  12. Vicki O'Dell says:

    Dear Ms V,
The table is absolutley divine! This is the color it was meant to be, I know it!
I’m not normally a jealous person but you’re roses are driving me mad! I ADORE them! The only color we have here are the fall leaves and they are quickly turning brown. It won’t be long and we’ll have snow. Lots and lots of white. 🙂
    Mrs V 😉

  13. Ooo la la I love the sea foam/teal blue with gold acents! Tres Magnifeet!!! The colors are sooooo YOU! The brown was fine but this has a whimsical sophistication that fits perfectly. Thank you for sharing it with us.
    Have a great day.
    Always, Queenie
    P.S. Please pardon all mis-spellings :o)

  14. Alia says:

That teal/sea foam is one of my favorite colors too! So naturally I think your dressing table looks fabulous! I can’t wait to move to a new house in a couple of months so I can go all out and decorate. We are currently living in Mister B’s parents’ house while they are living somewhere else and all their stuff is still here so I have never really settled in. I want to stay on the north end of town because I really like this area, so if you hear of any good rentals around let me know!

  15. Ahhh! The color of the dresser is ‘sooo’ French!
There is something so very enchanting about the teal and aqua shades. The pastel roses are so magical also.
And ballerinas! How divine they are! I watched a vintage movie with Gene Kelly in it ‘An American in Paris’ and the main female dancer was exquisite! She was perfection as a ballerina/dancer aside from being an adorable French actress. (It was a looong movie too!)
And your painted ballerinas are my favorite that you collage with magical abandon.
    Wishing you stars sprinkled evenings…

My outside right now is trying to blow us away… @_@ It’s so windy, that on my walk to work tonight I was almost stopped in my tracks a few times. But I love it all the same. ^-^ As I walked tonight, the wind wrapped me in hugs and made feel safe & loved. ^-^
    XOXO

  17. Karen Sholes says:

Vanessa, You are a happy accident!! I came upon your blog as I was searching for Halloween anything. I have followed you on and off for years. This is my first time commenting. You are an inspiration to me. You make me want to create too. Thanks for being there for me everytime I look for you. Karen

  18. A good way to learn how to paint with watercolor paints is to start with watercolor pencils. Once you’ve mastered them, move on to paints and you’ll be a Pablo Picasso (or whatever artist you admire) in no time. Not every brush stroke will be exactly how you imagined it to be, and sometimes (believe it or not), mistakes can make your work a beautiful masterpiece.
