Miniature Christmas Party

What is it about miniatures?

Miniature 1

Little tiny things are so sweet, aren't they?

Miniature 3

I don't know about you.

But, get me around miniatures, and I start to hum to myself.

The mood lightens.

Miniature 2

Last year I moved around some dollhouses.

Put things away, organized into different parcels.

Carefully.

So that I could move things around without breaking anything.

So reopening my own mini treasures, and setting dioramas back up, was just delightful.

Teensy eensy little things.

Miniature 4

Makes you want to falalalalaaaaa all day.

Doesn't it?

Just be like, today, I play.

All day.

Nothing more.

Miniature 5

I caught myself singing this.

It's a jolly holiday with Mary…

With Matty wagging his tail.

Watching me.

Miniature 7

Sometimes, it's just what the doctor ordered.

To squelch grown up thoughts and worries, and this and that's.

Like spinning time, out of control.

Have to do this, have to run here and there.

Just a stop.

Something light.

Miniature 6

Of the mini variety.

Miniature 9

My heart has an extra fondness for that mini puppers.

Miniature 10

Visiting miniature worlds, gotta love it.

Miniature 8

The best thing.

All of a sudden, you start thinking in miniature, and you see everyday things that could be converted into mini things.

Match boxes, thimbles, tiny boxes.

All of a sudden, you have beds and puppet theaters and…

Well, that's how one falls into such an obsession it seems.

Haha!

Are you into mini little things?

Sparkly heart

  1. Nan says:

Oh I love your sweet miniature scene you have created. Yes I’m into them as well on a limited basis. In my craft room I have three doll houses that I we have made and furnished. They are up high and I can’t see the contents but at least I have them displayed up there.

  2. karenleigh says:

Yay! I have loved miniatures since I was a little girl. They are magical. I want to shrink down and play in dollhouses.

  3. Miss Linda says:

I love looking at all of your miniatures, everytime I look, I see something new. They are so very cute. I have a few things, nothing that compare with yours. I love looking.

  4. Kyra says:

I don’t know what it is about miniatures either, but I LOVED making them as a kid. I didn’t want to buy anything, I needed to make it!

  5. Your Miniatures and Dioramas are Enchanting and a boost to the Spirit… one can’t help but have a Childlike Wonder when it comes to Imaginative things like Miniatures because they’re a World apart & perhaps why they have such mass Appeal. Last Christmas I got my Grand-Daughter some Miniature Toys & their Shops called Woodseys {I think that’s what they were called}… they had a Mini Bakery & Mini General Store and I don’t know who Enjoyed playing with it more… her or I?! *winks* The tiny little Confections particularly Appealed to me, so Realistic and yet so miniscule!
Continue to have an Amazing & Enchanted Christmas filled with Childlike Wonder my Friend… Dawn… The Bohemian

  6. My miniature obsession is ridiculous.
I have all these tiny treasures stashed away.
The problem is, they’re so dang little I forget where they are.
Where did I put the little deer?
    Where are those tiny teapots?
    Where is the teensy ottoman?
I really like how you displayed the scene in one box.
One of my favorite things in elementary was making a shoebox diorama.
    Did you make those?

  7. Jill James says:

I could look at this for an hour! SOOOOoooooo sweet……….
I squeal a little in thrift stores when I spy the tramp art (the curly~q chairs made from sardine cans or coffee cans) I see you have your dolly sitting on a white one ~ the little red piano! Triple love that….I just bought my daughter all the colors of miniature dice ~ they are so so tiny.
    Yes, Laura! Dioramas….
Vanessa, this is making me so happy šŸ™‚

  8. Diane says:

Yes, and the other day I ran into a friend at Salvation Army. I was just delighted because this perfectly sane, with it woman was talking about making teeny tiny chandeliers out of earrings and buying cards for art in her new doll house. I love it. All of a sudden everything becomes teeny tiny possibilities. I love your little dollhouse and I think they’re very good for you. Diane

  9. I don’t even know what date it is today, Vanessa…I know it is Saturday, but that is about all.
Thank you for this post, as I am, utterly brain dead from Connecticut.
Thinking too much about it, and I can’t watch or hear anymore.
    Numb is the word.
I do have some tiny ceramic doggies, and a very vintage tiny ceramic basket with a mama bird and baby birds sitting in the basket, all white like the frozen Charlotte dolls, and I have tiny lady bugs, and a few tiny kitties, and when my children were younger they made many tiny creatures from Sculpy Clay, turtles, people, birds, kitties, doggies, rabbits, mushrooms, and even a kitty with wings all safe and sound in my glass doored china cabinet. I do adore doll houses and have one small paper mache doll house from Cherry Boutique(?)blogspot/Etsy shop. I know you have one too and know you know who I am talking about. The doll house roof comes off and the roof is gabled and the exterior ‘walls’ are covered in French newspaper. I totally lost myself in your magical miniature world…thank you for the detour from real life.
Hope you are feeling better by now.
    love and hugs,
    Miss Teresa

  11. Irina says:

    I, too, am utterly obsessed…
Your sweet diorama is very festive šŸ™‚
    I love making clay food minis…totally addicting…
    Hugs,
    – Irina

  12. Sis, you know I love me some miniatures. What did you always used to say about me when I was a kid and our parents would give me some cash and I would go shopping with a friend and her mom? Do you remember what you always used to say?
I love anything mini. I was ready to try to stuff that diorama in my purse when we went to your house to celebrate your birthday… but, sadly, you didn’t look away long enough for me to try to scurry away with it. Can you just see it now… me in my platforms trying to run through the living room, breeze pass the dogs and jump in the car shouting for our dad to go.. go now… let’s go! Alas, it didn’t occur that way. That is a fantastic diorama, though, and I would steal and/or purchase one in a heartbeat.

  13. I am with you. Its too much, too intense to process and so awful and
    soo sad.

  14. Sister, you are hilarious!!!!!!!!!!! Steal and or buy, love the
    options ;)))

Awwww, what a sweet miniature room. You put sooo many cute little things with love in it !
Love miniatures too and can“t have enough of it šŸ˜‰
    Stefanie

  20. Theresa says:

What a beautiful happy post!!!! The miniatures are adorable, Vanessa. Makes you feel like you are in fairyland…they are so much fun!!! Especially holiday ones.

  21. I am so delighting in your photos! I love miniatures!!! I wish I was miniature. When I was a little girl, I wanted to get littler and littler every day until I was small enough to live in a lovely and well-appointed rustic doll house in the woods. Then I might marry an elf or a gnome.

  22. Jenn says:

Oh the loveliest of posts Miss V! I’m hoping maybe someone found a vintage dollhouse to put under the tree with my name on it this year. If not, well I might just have to go hunting myself. Miniatures delight me too! I love the wondrous Christmassy scene you’ve created. How sweet to peek in at from above!

  23. dena miller says:

Absolutely obsessed with all things miniature!!! I love to look, collect and play with all sorts of miniatures too. There is something so magical about it. I adore making Pies and cakes for tiny tea party’s and have a plan to make a tiny little doll house in the near future. Thanks so much for sharing yours…I loved peeking into your Miniature Christmas Party. Where I live, at Christmas time, we have a miniature railroad display that is simply incredible@!!!! I love to see the tiny little land that is crated there. Oh, I must try to get there this seasonšŸ–¤

  24. Nicki says:

I adore miniatures! Have you seen the Thorne Rooms at the Art Institute in Chicago? My favorite place to visit. I’m sure you have, but if anyone else hasn’t heard of it and is interested check this out:
    http://www.artic.edu/aic/collections/thorne
Combines my love of history and miniatures perfectly!!
I think it is a shame that miniatures aren’t as popular of a hobby anymore. As a child I used to rush to the miniature section of the craft store and drool, but nowadays it seems to be just a tiny little rack of cheapo badly made leftover stock.
And love of miniatures also translates into my love of the Borrowers. I loved the idea of little people living beneath the floorboards using matchbox beds and thimble tables and stools, etc. My new ornaments for my little bedroom tree are two miniature cupcakes (see my blog for pics) – so cute!!! And miniature violin ornaments. No wonder I love Christmas – there are so many miniatures involved!
    Happy Holidays, Vanessa!!

  25. G.G. Pinkster says:

The stars appear and disappear into light,
And come back in the little of life.
    A center, a universe waves.
    Happy Birthdays amongst Living plays.
The country song rising across subtle skies.
Singing lullabies that help us fly.
A greeting and a wave across to you.
Enjoying winter wonderlands sparklings fresh as dew.
    Xxs Zee Pinkster too whoo.

  26. Linda Diane says:

Oh, yes, I do love mini things! I collected miniatures when I was a younger girl. I do still love them. Thank you for sharing yours!
