Merry 🖤

The end of a more than good weekend should look something like this.

Wouldn't you say?

Merry 3

Edible stars and disco dust just left twinkling on a tattered gobbled cake.

A memory of bits of magic shared with loved ones.

Merry 4

Remaining buttercream smooshed & scattered.

Maybe a little on your lip too.

Merry 5

I returned from a weekend of fun, driving through cold weather.

Snow on the mountains as I arrived to my higher elevation.

Merry feelings trickled in with the help of winter weather.

This lead to an insatiable need to tuck more baubles in here and there.

Merry 1

And so, I did.

While 3 boys wrestled and ran around the house around me.

2 fur, one none fur.

Indoor playing on an icy wet day.

Merry 2

It's been colddddd.

Brrrr.

Merry 9

But it sure does help infuse the holiday spirit.

Snowy mountain goodness.

Merry 10

I hung my sparkly pink snowflakes from the mantle.

Merry 6

And played in a huge wooden bowl of petals I somehow amassed this autumn.

Merry 7

I had collected the summer blooms in a huge glass jar.

Never realizing I'd have so many autumn petals.

Which of course I just love.

I'll need another giant jar.

I've been adding lights to ivy in the garden.

Changing things up a bit.

Merry 8

I've been quite the social butterfly lately.

I don't know what has come over me.

I've been having a day here and there in town doing lots of fun things.

Going to see the twinkling lights in the Tohono Chul botanical garden.

Going hiking in other mountains (not just my own), enjoying parks.

Shopping, going out for tea, lovely dinners, wonderful company.

It's been a blast and it's been so nice to nurture my inspiration vault.

Just nice to go here and there from time to time.

I'm enjoying life so much.

On December 1st of 2014 I started going out and getting exercise and fresh air every single day.

I didn't have a plan or a reason.

It was just a calling, a vast need to escape and do something physical outside of my own world.

I'm very active in my gardens and life, but I think it's different when you stop your day to take this time for yourself.

At least it is for me.

It's become such a huge necessity to my soul and I enjoy it so so so much.

Everyday I put on some music and hit the hills.

I've worn through 3 pairs of running/walking shoes in 12 months.

It's such a great gift I gave to myself that I didn't even know I needed so much.

To just unplug from everything and break free a couple hours a day.

It's changed my schedule a lot, but is now melding with my creative life organically.

I've had such a great year, projects, fun and people in my life.

But mostly, it's been great because I stopped and gave myself a gift.

To take better care of me in the sense of taking myself out, going up hills, changing the scenery.

It's not just a physical gift but mentally and for the soul, so good.

Enjoying the beautiful mountains around me & taking advantage of them.

It's wonderful.

We forget to do nice things for ourselves.

It becomes last priority.

2015 I made it my first priority.

It's amazing how few people, if any, are out there enjoying the hills with me.

I can't even believe a year has gone by, but I know I can't miss a day without fresh air, good music and big hills now.

It's blissful, it's not a chore, it's a choice.

Why I veered onto that I don't know, haha!

But now you know what I've been doing with a huge chunk of my days for 378 days.

And then somehow it became December.

And here we are, with snow and ornaments and baking.

I'm so scattered in my baking and making this month.

Wrapping up some projects and starting others, phew!

I have clay and fresh paintings waiting for me.

Somehow there is not enough time in the day to do it all.

Still, I'm encouraging myself to get out more, despite the need for more time.

I had a prickly pear mimosa this weekend, on Saturday.

And a 12 course dinner at the Arizona Inn on Friday night, tiny bites, with wine pairings.

Oooo, that was fun.

I don't drink, so after the first course with sparkling Zipang Sake' I was a bit numb.

(but I recommend it, it was so lovely, a bit like champagne & very tasty)

Booooy did I ever have fun.

🙂

Okay, I'll stop babbling now.

How are you out there in the world?

Love, V

Sparkly heart

It sounds wonderful! So glad you are having fun. We’ve been in the high 60’s and low 70’s for several days her in NC and I can’t stand it. It’s December for goodness sakes! I think the weatherpeople say the cold will come back this weekend and I can’t wait! Have a wonderful day!
    love & blessings

ps…hugs & kisses to Matty and Miles!

Beautiful post Vanessa. It will be 70 today on the Gulf Coast and I love it. We don’t have extremely cold weather much around Christmas. Once it got down to 16 degrees on Christmas Eve and busted the pipes. THAT was extreme. I started walking when I was 50, took up surfing when I was 54 and working with weights when I was 57. I will be 62 next month and I’m pretty healthy. It’s always a good idea to take care of one’s self. Good for you!

Good for you! Glad you’re enjoying life to the fullest! Birthday greetings to you! I just had a very happy birthday!
We just back from a two week driving trip to Nashville, TN., Asheville, N.C., & Florida. We stayed in the coolest hotels!
We were at the Gaylord Opryland in all of it’s Christmas glory and the Grove Park Inn (Asheville) which was amazing too! The Gaylord was like an indoor rainforest & the history at the Grove Park Inn was so interesting. I did not want to leave the Grove Park Inn! It was so beautiful & we stayed in the old, original part of the hotel. We were right next door to the resident “ghost room”.(The Pink Lady) In Florida we spent Thanksgiving with my in-laws. (80 & sunny every day)
I feel like Laura in the above comment. The weather here in Illinois has been in the 60s & it doesn’t feel very Christmas-y.
It’s been very gloomy & rainy! At least some snow would brighten things up! I feel so behind being gone for 2 weeks! I’m trying to catch up! It always seems to work out! I probably feel behind every year at some point! :0)
Off I go to wrap some presents! Have a great day!

So much going on over there in Bizarre, Arizona! We’re always upon the same path, you and I. Spiritually, I mean. Like we must share the same star, even though our lives are so very different. 🙂 It is nice to know you’re there, living artfully and inspiringly and creatively, amidst paint and petals –committing to hard work, never giving up yourself to do it but in fact morphing it into YOU. Wonderful, beautiful, sparkly you!!
I got no mountains, girlie, but there are some days when the hills are alive with the sound of my panting, haha! (Humidity. Ugh.)
I’m so excited to see your world changing, and you embracing new things, and venturing out in the big wide world. <3

  7. Rachel says:

    Sounds like you’re having a blast! 🙂
I’ve been trying to get out more to, not everyday (here in the UK it rains…..a lot!) but I always feel better after I’ve trudged around the lakes near where I live. 🙂

  8. Indigo says:

Thanks a lot, Vanessa! Now I have a cake craving! ;D
We have about three feet of snow and it’s still coming down!

  9. Tina Gates says:

How wonderful, that you have kept that gorgeous ritual every day – self care is so very important! Oh, how I would love to hike in your mountains, now that is my idea of heaven. Your home looks divine, as always, so full of life and joy. Wishing you the merriest of Christmases Vanessa, and may the new year bring you new adventures and lots of magic.

not able to connect to your shop since you set up your new computer.

  11. Renee says:

Merry Christmas. I love the colors and the glitter. My baking starts tomorrow.
I want to find one more thing for hubby for Christmas. All my presents are wrapped and under the tree. I finished a project I started ages ago 🙂
We have had spring like weather (60s and 70s).

  12. Misha/Dawaioser (Cosmic Girl) says:

Good for you! Exercise is so necessary for ones health and taking that time for yourself, like you said, is a luxury but very important. I’m glad that you are feeling great and I think that vitality shines even more through your art and the inspiration that you bring others, especially me. The beauty of your world makes me want to do better in mine and I hope to bring a little bit of joy to others with my offerings.
The past week my world has been full of kitchen renovations and fudge making: “Creme Brulee”, “Pumpkin”, “Chocolate & Sea Salt Caramel” and “Peanut Butter”. I’m having friends over this weekend for another outdoor movie night and we’re supposed to have legitimate cold weather here this weekend and the *HIGH* will be 60 degrees. That is laughable to you but it’ll be perfect temps to light the firepit, drink hot cider and hot chocolate, and eat nibblies while we all get caught up on things before the Xmas craziness goes full bloom. I’m really looking forward to it.

  13. We’ve been sick for two weeks now with the flu that has evolved into a cold. I just wanted you to know that your beautiful pictures and fun banter make everything feel better!

  14. Roostah says:

PS. Veevala, why do I get the feeling that the magical wand you’re using as a fork in that third cake picture (which is one of the dreamiest pictures EVER) would turn the smelliest of broccoli into something delectable?
    GORGEOUS!xixxoxiviiiyumRoostah

  15. I was smiling my way through your blog post. I couldn’t get enough hearing about the glorious life experiences you are enjoying so very much. It seems to have released more energy into your life, which is being reflected in your creativity too.
I am so glad you are doing things for yourself.
For me, listening to music has been my energy source of late. Music can be so intoxicating! So spirit lifting too! And, someday I want to make a DVD of my own piano music and my oldest son’s piano music. THAT is my next passion! I don’t write music, I just sit down and plug my muse into the universe of the divine piano which is my star shine, and moon beam tocatta! I know this is what you do too, when you sit down to play the piano. Magic happens!
    Your photos are scrumptiously yummy!!!

I love what you’ve done in making yourself the priority. I love getting out and walking/hiking, though my daily schedule doesn’t allow me to do it every day. For me it’s the mental well being it generates that’s the draw. Right now I’m in your neck of the woods for a holiday visit–and what beautiful weather for hiking these canyons. I love this place in the winter. I’d wanted to go see the lights at the botanical gardens but didn’t make it. Sounded lovely! Enjoy your holidays! You and yours!

  17. You make even the remnants of a Party look absolutely Enchanting! That first Image… probably the Prettiest Leftovers I have ever seen! Yes, you should give yourself the Treat of Indulgences in between all of the busyness. Dawn… The Bohemian
