Summery Refreshments {Watermelon Martini}

Happy Summer!

It's hot hot hot, and watermelon is so hitting the spot.

I was recently at a Greek place sipping a watermelon cocktail and thought…

I must concoct a watermelon refreshment of my own.

And so, I set out to do just that.

There are two things I'd like to say before I tell you how I made this summery treat.

First of all, you can omit the booze altogether and it's still great.

Secondly, I'm more of a baker than a cocktail maker.

So, I opted not to go hunt out all my city house cocktail making gear in a box somewhere.

(yep, it's all still in a box somewhere in a country shed all these years later)

Instead, we will be measuring in teaspoons and tablespoons and half cups.

Rather than ounces and such, haha!

Baker, cocktail maker, ok here we go…

Watermelon cocktail 7

So basically, this is a very low alcohol content watermelon martini.

I'll share a full ingredient/recipe list at the end.

What you'll find are the measurements for one martini.

You can increase the mixture accordingly.

Watermelon cocktail 17

I started by taking about 3-4 cups of fresh watermelon and mashing it up a little with a whisk.

Watermelon cocktail 16

Once it was a watery mash up…

Watermelon cocktail 15

I pushed it gently through a wire mesh sieve, to extract all the juice that I could.

Watermelon cocktail 14

Voila!

Fresh watermelon juice.

This gave me about 1.5 cups of watermelon juice, but of course it depends on how juicy your watermelon is.

Watermelon cocktail 18

Have a nice big glass of fresh ice ready, as you will pour all the ingredients over ice.

This will chill your cocktail perfectly before you serve.

Watermelon cocktail 13

To my glass of ice I added, half a cup of fresh watermelon juice.

Watermelon cocktail 12

One teaspoon of Midori, which is a melon liqueur.

I got it at my regular ole grocery store.

Watermelon cocktail 11

Then add one teaspoon of vodka (your choice brand).

Watermelon cocktail 10

And finally, one tablespoon of cranberry juice for color and tang.

Watermelon cocktail 9

Stir it all together and then…

Watermelon cocktail 8

Pour it right into your martini glass.

(strain it in with no ice)

Filled my glass just perfectly.

If you'd like you can add a few drops of lime, but taste first because the lime does change it a little.

Watermelon cocktail 5

It's so fresh and yummy.

Watermelon cocktail 6

Then you can slice some watermelon wedges to garnish your glass.

Watermelon cocktail 3

I am telling you, you might get hooked.

They are so fresh and light as air.

Watermelon cocktail 4

Sip standing by your mantle.

Sip sitting on your porch.

Watermelon cocktail 2

Sip in the tub, on the couch, in the rain, in the sun.

Sip in pure bliss.

They are so goooood.

Fresh as can be.

Omit the booze and you just have a dandy fruit drink.

There you go.

Isn't that kind of fun?

I sure had a ball creating my own version of this cocktail.

I must have drank about 5, oops!

It's oh so hot, so it really hit the spot.

How are you out there?

Is it hot, is it cold?

Oh yahhh 😉

Can't wait to see how mad tea setup goes.

My motto will be…

I'm meltiiiinggggg!

Wrong story, oh well.

Haha!

Happy weekend wishes to you🖤

I'll be back soon, clink clink!!

See you soon a fanciful twist 300px

  1. This drink looks refreshing! I have a theme for the party, but the trick will be implementing it. ;P

  2. Sounds good, esp. with such tiny amount of Vodka. Refreshing I bet. Wish someone would make Me a glass or two. My next project is getting ready for Your Tea Party.Right now My craft room tour is up on My blog from… Where Crafters Craft party. I would sure love a visit from You on My blog. Can You not reach My blog? hugs Denise

  3. I must be a lush. As delightfully good as your watermelon martini sounds, I definitely want a full shot of vodka!

  4. That does look refreshing, but I’m going to need a lot more vodka added to mine.Hahaha. I need a little Go-Go juice and think I’ll try this next weekend. If you macerate and juice blueberries, and add it to the mix, it’s also delivious. Or you can add cilantro to the cocktail, to give it a more “savory and earthy” taste.
For my seedless watermelon, I like chopping it into bits and adding it into a mixed salad, along with feta cheese, sea salt, cracked black pepper, a TINY splash of cranberry vinegar & olive oil, and a small sliver of almonds. Trust me on this one – it’s divine. Anyway, get me talking about food and I’ll be here forever. ‘;)

Looks refreshing! Especially in those gorgeous martini glasses–are those tiffany plaid?!!

  6. Betty says:

Good job in inviting such a yummy-looking summer cocktail, Dear Vanessa!! I personally love that it’s a bit light on the alcohol (Smartpants doctors say it’s a no-no for me), but my Mr. V said he thinks it would be great and would join Bill and Misha in adding more vodka!! We might have to make some to celebrate my finishing my epic blog post for your lovely Mad Tea Party!!! Oooh! I can never get over how little time you take to actually do your beautiful parties!!! You really seem to bloom in the heat of those deadlines!!! Back to work for me! Hoping to finish up today and relax the rest of the week until the festivities on Saturday!! Can’t wait!
