Did the weekend come and go already? What??? I just peeked my head out of the studio, like a turtle, slowly lurking around & night had fallen. The day is gone…
I have three new paintings I created while lost in time….They will be put in my shop today.
It has been a whirlwind of tales all weekend. It started with this haunting voice, calling out my name… Telling me it was her time to go back to sea… She would not leave me alone so, I did what any other nut-cake-vilian would do…
I put her on canvas. She is titled, "The Siren's Sojourn…" Seems she spent her few days on land as a lovely puppet girl.
Friday night I had a dream, about this woman, escaping from the circus. It was twilight, it was rainy, and all she would take with her was her birdcage. So, I brought her to life…
She is Tiltled, "Escape at Twilight…."
Just when I thought I was finished… Another tale popped into my head, and I had to go with the flow… Hence, losing my entire weekend. I mean, it was not a loss, I created. But the time went by way to fast.
Today's fairytale was about a girl, in the woods on "A Peculiar Day."
I had way too much fun with the Fungi. I pencil drew them on parchment cardstock. Then decoupaged them to the canvas & added a bit of color. I think I am addicted….
My manny (male nanny) was very good to me this weekend. He went grocery shopping, made dinners… He even made old fashioned French toast this morning. SPOILED. I am spoiled for life. Ruined. Oh well? It is a good way to be ruined. Don't you think???
Just when the spoiling of the naughty girl was getting less and less… A wonderful (unexpected) package came! Boy, can she keep good secrets!!! It is from the lovely Karen-Beth of Zazazu.
I love all of it… Notice the teeny tiny crooked old Indian bracelet. I looked at it, and thought, what on earth is this tiny thing?
Well, lucky for me, I am a gnome and it fit like a glove. Like it was made for me!!! I never want to remove it. I have even slept with it on. Oh, notice the glitter bath salts above! Glitter???? Oh and that card!!! I love it (I had spied it on Etsy). And the yarn corsage!! And the tea and shells and flapper necklace, and earrings? I tell you! SPOILED.
Thank you Karen-Beth!!! Thank you!!!
I am a happy happy girl!!! How was your weekend?? I am off to update the shop, and then spend the last hours of the weekend with my ever kindness deserving manny, Mr. Lovee.

Ah, a man who makes French toast! Lucky you. And all those goodies – the ones you created and the gift – lovely. I especially like the Escape at Twilight. It reminds me of a narrow escape or two in my own life. And of course Siren’s Sojourn and A Peculiar Day are gorgeous too. I love how your dreams infuse your work. Three paintings in one weekend – very impressive! xo
I love the Siren’s Sojourn. How often don’t I dream of a little sojourn myself…..
I can’t take my eyes off “The Siren’s Sojourn”. A little beauty! Yes, I too wonder where the weekend went. Sunday, especially. It feels like I got up… and it was already time for bed! Sometimes (often) when we’re immersed in creative play, we enter that zone where time disappears. I’ve always loved that passage in “The Mists of Avalon” (the novel, not the movie) where Morgaine “gets lost” in fairy land. She spends 3 days there but when she comes out 10 years have gone by in the “real world”.
Oh Vanessa I adore these new pieces – my you are having fun with that wonderful paper effect. I had days like that in the studio last week – just the opportunity to get lost in my own world – I am hoping to do the same this week too!! And your swap giftees – just wonderful – I do love that card too. xxx
I am totally in love with this new art of yours!!!!It is so magical I love it!
xoxo
how wonderful….Karen Beth really is the best, and she gives the best mail ever!!!
Aww…beautiful work especially ‘A Peculiar Day’ which has already left the building, quicker than I can even blink my eyes (I am going to stalk your shop from now, though I have to destroy my piggy bank first 🙂 ). The Siren’s Sojourn is such a beautiful title, you are on a creative roll lady! Stunning work all around, and that French toast was well deserved -perhaps a cry for attention? heheee…..lovely mail from Karen Beth.
Mr Lovee can make french toast? You are such a lucky girl. And your art as always is so enchanting, the muse must be with you at hte moment you are so prolific.

I just love these new ladies you are creating, I thought the previous ladies were my favorites but I have to say love these even better! What a lovely weekend, so glad you were taken care of too!
Ohhhhhhhhh. Sigh. Picture back of hand on forehead, palm up, head thrown back, wedding cake martini in other hand. That’s me. Dramatically gleeful and ready for another bedtime story. Come on! One more! Please!
Your lovely writing makes me swoon.
Hi Vanessa, I found you through Anastasia today and am so glad I did! Love your new paintings and I feel so inspired just being here! I am another girl who is a bit of a changeling in her work and styles, who likes to experiment , life is too short!
The Siren is the bomb! You kicked it up a notch on her 🙂 Did you make her before or after the french toast?
Oh my such lovely things to look at…
I think you had a better weekend than I…

Love that bracelet! It’s so unusual!
I love that part you wrote…’Just when the spoiling of the naughty girl was getting less and less’, hahahaha! you are so funny!
Oh how i wish my fiance could cook me breakfast!!! I tried but he didn’t like it much. sigh….i may never be as spoiled as you!!!
The painting with the fungi is ever so wonderful!
darling girl, I am missing you a lot these days. I can see from your work, that you have a new and very lovely muse. And I do love the escape hatching with the birdcage — that and a little lip gloss is all a girl could possibly need:-)
I LOVe your new paintings, I am obsessed with toad stools right now, so I let out a little squeal when I saw ‘A Peculiar day’. You’ve also reminded me I haven’t had breakfast yet, I don’t think porridge is going to hit the spot today, a trip to the corner shop might be in order!
I really love this new stuff you’re making. It reminds me of being a kid. I think you captured the way I dream of things. Come home, it’s been a while since we danced to 80’s music in the living room.
I am so not tech savvy these days. Please try it now.
